Good Morning
It was early the next morning, Hongjoong still spread across the couch when he was shaken awake. The sleep had been both the best and worst one Hongjoong had in a long time. The couch was extremely uncomfortable and will likely cause him back pain for days. But he couldn't recall the last time he slept so soundly. His entire body felt content and relaxed. Which is maybe why he was extra annoyed when he was awoken.
"Appa?" A soft voice called out. A little hand rested on Hongjoong's arm, giving it a little shake. The scent of warm milk filled the room signalling the arrival of a pup. "Appa?" He tried again.
"Puppy" Hongjoong mumbled, not even opening his eyes. "It's too early." He reached out and gently stroked his fingers through the pup's soft strands of hair. When the pup showed no signs of returning to bed, Hongjoong wrapped his arm around the pup's small body. With a careful tug he lifted the little one onto his chest. Sighing softly Hongjoong made himself comfortable. "Sleep puppy" he began to gently rub up and down the little boy's back. "We both need some more sleep."
The little pup wiggled around slightly on Hongjoong's chest, pushing himself up so his nose pressed into the alphas neck. Closing his eyes he began to breathe in deeply, taking in the aroma of eucalyptus. With the pup now settled Hongjoong was able to relax. Surrounded by the creamy milk he was content with knowing his pup was safe. But there was something mixed with the milk. Was that citrus? Why would his pup smell that way? Well that could be worried about at another time. For now it was far too early. Hongjoong needed his sleep. He liked his sleep.
However his sleep felt like it didn't last very long for he was awoken by the sounds of loud whispering. "Hush puppies" a voice stated. "Appa is still sleeping." Hongjoong shifted slightly at that. Was this mysterious voice talking about him? How dare they talk about him when he was sleep just a couple feet away?
"What do you want for breakfast?" The unknown voice said again. There was the following sound of a cupboard opening and the screeching of chairs.
"Something yummy," a little voice answered.
"Yeah appa can't cook," another added.
The original one chuckled lightly. "Well there's so many of us... I don't have a lot to offer" he started to mumble to himself. "I can't afford much in bulk but I suppose... okay let's make porridge!"
Hongjoong groaned slightly. There was a heavy weight to his chest that was beginning to become uncomfortable. And what was he holding onto? His arm was wrapped securely around something warm.
There was the sound of movement again, clattering as things were placed on the table. "I'll get the porridge started and then I'll need help with the fruit if you puppies think you can handle it."
"We can!" Multiple voices cheered.
It was in that moment that Hongjoong was finally able to pull his eyes open. He released a low groan and shifted slightly, the weight not lightening. But with his eyes open now he could see that it was one of the kids lying on his chest. His eyebrows furrowed slightly though. Why was he so small? As his eyes started to adjust to the bright light he began to recognize the pup as Sumin.
"Sumin?" He breathed out lightly. His hand was resting on the boy's back, securing him in place so he wouldn't accidentally roll off.
The pup responded with a soft hum, perhaps even a purr, but didn't speak any words. Rather he clenched tightly to Hongjoong's shirt and snuggled deeper.
Carefully Hongjoong pushed himself up into a seated position. His hand supported Sumin, keeping him in place against his chest. Glancing over the back of the couch he watched Seonghwa for a moment.
The omega seemed much more awake and alert than Hongjoong would've expected after a night of drinking. The omega was standing at the stove with a beaming smile. He was stirring something in a large pot - likely the porridge he had promised the pups. "How about apples?" He offered. "That might be nice to add."
"Sounds yummy eomma," Minjae agreed.
Eyeing the pups Hongjoong took in the remainder of the family. All three pups were seated at the small table. Minjae had his head down looking tired. Youngseok was yawning every few seconds. And Junyoung was the only one wide-awake nodding along with Seonghwa.
"You can have some cinnamon with it too" Seonghwa turned away from the stove to view the pups but he paused when he locked eyes with Hongjoong. "Oh you're awake!" Yes, very chipper for somebody that should be hung over.
"I'm awake" Hongjoong nodded. He rubbed at his eyes slightly. Maybe he was still dreaming. This was too domestic. Watching Seonghwa cooking for all the pups.
"Excellent. I was just making breakfast for the puppies. They told me all about their sleepover" Seonghwa smiles. Grabbing at two apples he moved to the table. "I'm surprised you spent the night. You really didn't have to. And I doubt the couch was comfortable."
"It was fine" Hongjoong argued lightly. There was no way he would admit this was the best night's sleep he had in what felt like years. The aroma within environments can really make all the difference. "You seem happy today."
"I got a good night's sleep. '' Seonghwa flashed a smile. "I feel as good as new."
Hongjoong nodded. Was Seonghwa even real? Suddenly he's perfectly functional after a night of drinking? This man couldn't be real.
"I hope you're hungry," Seonghwa stated. "I've got porridge on and we are cutting up apples to add." He pulled a seat out at the table with the pups and began slicing the apples. "Puppies once I slice these, can you add cinnamon and sugar to them?"
"Yes!" The pups clapped happily.
At the noise Sumin finally awoke. Letting out a deep yawn he rubbed at his eyes.
"Hey puppy" Hongjoong cooked while patting the pup on his backside. The alpha scrunched his nose when he felt it was a little damp. "Ah pup I think we need to get you cleaned up and changed."
Seonghwa looked over at that. "Oh. He wears a pull up. I can just go change him quickly if you watch the porridge." He moved to stand.
Hongjoong however waved the concern away. "I can do it," he answered. Standing with Sumin in his arms he patted the boy's hair. "Can Joong help change and get you dressed?" He wanted to ask for Sumin's permission before doing anything he might be uncomfortable with.
Sumin had a small nod and held it tighter to Hongjoong's neck.
"There's a change of clothes for him in his room and everything else he needs is in the bathroom. Also there's a cream there for his legs. Sometimes he chaffs, so please use it" Seonghwa explained. "Oh. And you can take some of my clothes to change into if you want. I hope you don't mind. I already helped Junnie and Youngie into some of Minnie's clothes."
Hongjoong nodded his thanks and headed back to the pups room. "What do you want to wear today?" Hongjoong asked setting Sumin down. He moved towards the dresser and started to check for clothing.
"Skirt?" Sumin asked with round boba eyes.
"Oh puppy" Hongjoong's face fell lightly. "I don't have the skirt ready for you yet. I'm still working on it." Hongjoong hadn't even started it yet. But Sumin didn't need to know that. "But you can pick anything else."
"Pyjamas?" Sumin tilted his head.
"You want to wear pyjamas today as clothes?" Hongjoong clarifies. When Sumin nodded, Hongjoong simply shrugged. He figured Seonghwa wouldn't be too pleased about it. He seemed like the type to have his pups dressed to perfection. But he wasn't Seonghwa. So who was he to say no? He grabbed a change of pyjamas, these ones being navy blue button ups. At least they looked on the nicer side. Holding Someone's hand they headed to the bathroom.
"Appa?" Sumin questioned as Hongjoong worked on getting the pup undressed. But when the alpha didn't respond, seeming to not hear him, Sumin tried again. "Appa '' he said a little louder. His small hand rested on Hongjoong's shoulder for support.
"Oh Sumin" Hongjoong paused and glanced at Sumin. Sitting back on his heels he discarded the wet pull up in the nearby trash bin. Hongjoong never really understood alphas and their fear of the most basic care for their pups in terms of changing diapers and cleaning them up. It was part of parenting. "I'm not your appa," he answered softly. "I'm going to wipe you clean now Sumin" he explained to the pup as he got the wipes and gently began to clean the pup. Smiling to himself he noticed the cream Seonghwa was talking about, of course it was homemade. He wouldn't expect anything less from the eomma.
"Yes you are," Sumin pouted. There was clear confusion on his little face.
"Eomma and I are friends," Hongjoong lightly explained, assuming the pup was under the impression he was appa because of the closeness to Seonghwa. "Just like you are friends with Junyoung and Youngseok. But that doesn't make me your appa."
Sumin didn't seem content with that answer as he gave his head a firm shake.
"No?" the alpha questioned curiously. He reached for the pyjama pants and started getting the pup dressed. Maybe he shouldn't play into the pup's curiosity. But he couldn't help but wonder about the reasoning.
"You smell like appa," Sumin answered in a small shy voice. Unable to look at the alpha he favoured in glancing to the side.
"I smell like appa?" Hongjoong smiled softly. That would explain why Sumin came searching for him early that morning. There was likely some underlining comfort there that Hongjoong didn't fully understand. When Sumin gave a firm nod of confirmation the alpha softened slightly. "Dear, sweet puppy Sumin" Hongjoong finish buttoning the shirt and sat back, his hands resting on Sumin's waist. "I'm not your appa. But if I were, that would make me the luckiest alpha in the world. You and Minjae are such sweet pups. But sadly, I'm not that lucky. I'm not your appa. But I will be your friend."
"My friend?" Sumin tilted his head.
"Yes your friend" Hongjoong nodded with a smile. "And a friend is sometimes better! We will play so many games together, whenever and however long you want. You can come to me for anything and tell me all your troubles. And I'll keep it hush from eomma" Hongjoong winked. "Unless it's something really dangerous that he needs to know about."
"Friends?" Sumin repeated.
"Yeah" Hongjoong nodded. "We are friends." He wrapped his arms around Sumin's small body and pulled the pup in close. Gently he brushed his nose against the pup's scent gland. Breathing in the warm milk he released his own soft sandalwood and spice. The scenting was quick, hard to notice, but just enough to please the pup.
"Now" Hongjoong stood. "You go back to the kitchen and eat with eomma and the pups. I need to get changed." He sent the pup off with a final smile and started to wash his hands. Out of all the mistakes Hongjoong had, and was going, to make today, this was likely to be the worst. Without much thought he moved to the room he knew as Seonghwa. Going to the drawers he intended to find a change of clothes and be done with it.
Why would he open the first drawer? Nobody actually keeps clothing in the first drawer. That's typically dedicated to socks and underwear. For the most part Hongjoong wouldn't have cared, really he wouldn't have. Boxers and old worn socks were the least of his interest. However, the bubble gum pink lace caught his attention.
Hongjoong should've closed the drawer, pushed it shut and moved on to the next.
But he didn't.
Instead, Hongjoong reached inside. Hooking his pinkie finger through one of the straps he lifted it out of the drawer. Lace, sheer, pink and very much see through. There was little left to the imagination. Nibbling his bottom lip he gazed over the fabric. It was bound to be tight, hugging snug against Seonghwa's chest. It had a thong strap, meaning the omegas ass would be on full display.
At first he thought, who could Seonghwa be trying to impress with this lingerie? However, when he glanced back into the drawer, intending to put the pink fabric away, he spotted the vibrator. Seonghwa owned this for nobody but himself. And there was nothing wrong with that. In fact, it was positive. Loving yourself in such a way was amazing.
However, the toy was huge, unrealistically so. Also bright pink, it wasn't even attempting to be hidden. It sat directly in the drawer on display for anyone who opened it. But it made Hongjoong feel... small. If this is what Seonghwa wanted, was interested in, than Hongjoong was lacking. Why should that matter? Why should Hongjoong feel inadequate? It's not like he needed to impress Seonghwa or anything.
Giving his head a firm shake Hongjoong stuffed the lingerie back into the drawer. He needed to keep his scent stable before he got aroused and Seonghwa was bound to notice. How embarrassing would that be? Shoving the drawer shut he pulled out another. Finally clothing.
Realistically nothing was going to fit the alpha, he was too short for nearly everything Seonghwa owned, but this was the best he could do. Retrieving an old pair of jeans, he rolled the bottom so the pant legs weren't brushing the ground too badly. Seonghwa also had a thinner waist, meaning the jeans hugged Hongjoong's ass in all the right places. Tugging on a bright, sunshine yellow cardigan completed his look, with the first two buttons undone.
Finally dressed and finished, he went out the door to return to the kitchen. Seonghwa instantly shot the alpha a questioning look, as though he knew that Hongjoong had seen his sex toy. Nervously Hongjoong turned his nose towards himself to smell. There weren't any signs of arousal. The omega shouldn't be able to tell.
Nervously he claimed the only open seat, directly beside Seonghwa. He had a bowl placed in front of him with porridge and sliced apples with cinnamon were decorated on top, obviously placed by the pups. "What?" Hongjoong mumbled, with a quick glance at the glaring omega.
"Pyjamas?" Seonghwa hissed, bowing his head so he was close to Hongjoong's ear. "Seriously?"
Hongjoong felt a smirk tug at his lips. It was about the selected clothing For Sumin. He should've known Seonghwa would have something to say about it. "It's what the pup wanted," he answered back, lifting a spoonful of the porridge to his lips.
"You didn't need to say yes," Seonghwa grumbled.
"No harm in saying yes" Hongjoong countered. "You don't need to be so ridged. Have a little fun sometimes Seonghwa."
"I have plenty of fun," Seonghwa argued lightly, taking a bite of his own food. With a quick glance at the pups he ensured they were still distracted with their breakfast and chatting with each other.
"Like you did last night?" Hongjoong raised an eyebrow.
Seonghwa released a low groan. "Don't remind me," he whispered.
"And why not?" Hongjoong smirked.
"It was embarrassing, " Seonghwa whined.
"Oh?" Hongjoong teased. "Which part? The crying? Sitting in my lap? The vomiting?"
"Oh god" Seonghwa's face burned bright red. "I sat in your lap."
"You did" Hongjoong chuckled. "You seemed very comfortable."
"I was not," Seonghwa mumbled, turning his face away from Hongjoong.
"I think you did," Hongjoong commented. "Very relaxed against me."
The omega didn't dignify the other with a response. Instead he pushed himself up from the table and began collecting his and the pups now empty bowls. "Pups, you can go play now," Seonghwa instructed.
"Can we watch cartoons?" Junyoung questioned looking up at the omega.
Seonghwa, of course, agreed much with the pups' happiness. However Hongjoong didn't miss the way the omega flinched slightly, glancing with a pained expression at the TV. Did Seonghwa just not allow his own pups to have screen time? Sumin was still fairly young, he supposed. He will mention it to his pups later tonight, to avoid technology around the Park family.
Standing from the table, having quickly finished his own porridge he moved to the sink. "Let me wash the dishes" Hongjoong hip bumped Seonghwa.
"You don't need to" Seonghwa insisted, his hands already in the soapy water.
"You cooked" Hongjoong smiled. "That means I clean."
Seonghwa's mouth opened slightly. Not in a way that said he had something to say, but rather in surprise. Silently the omega stepped aside to give the alpha the full access to the sink. Holding a cloth he accepted the dishes to dry them and put them away. Nervously he glanced towards the pups that were now watching TV happily. He considered if he should bring it up to the alpha or not. He wanted to give the other the benefit of the doubt, but it was hard.
"What have got you deep thinking?" Hongjoong questioned, glancing towards Seonghwa.
"Hmm?" the omega glanced over. "I'm not deep thinking" he shrugged it off.
"Yes you are '' Hongjoong chuckled. "I can see the way your eyebrows move closer together. You are certainly thinking of something. So what is it? If this is still about last night, I promise you shouldn't feel ashamed of anything. I have two pups. It's not the first time I have cleaned up vomit, and it certainly won't be the last."
"That's not what I was thinking about," Seonghwa grimaced. "But thanks for the reminder."
"So you were thinking of something" Hongjoong smirked slightly, knowing he caught the other male now.
"I uh" Seonghwa nibbled his lip. "I helped get Youngseok and Junyoung changed this morning."
"Ah yeah" Hongjoong smiled. "Thanks for lending some of your own pups clothes. I probably don't have time to get them changed so I appreciate that."
"It's no problem," Seonghwa nodded. "I just..." he hesitated.
Hongjoong paused, hands in the water and looked towards the elder. "Just what?"
"I noticed the purple and blue marks..."
"The what?" Hongjoong eyebrows furrowed together for a moment. "Oh!" he barked out a laugh. "We were working with paint yesterday and they got it all over themselves. I washed it off the best I could but it stained their skin."
Seonghwa heaved a deep sigh of relief, one that Hongjoong didn't seem too impressed about.
"What did you think it was?" Hongjoong questioned, his tone growing deeper.
"Nothing," Seonghwa insisted with a quick shake of his head.
"I don't beat my pups Seonghwa" Hongjoong answered with a forceful voice. "If that's what you think I do, than you're mistaken."
"No I" Seonghwa sighed softly, shaking his head again. "I never meant to imply that."
"I'm a good appa" Hongjoong spoke softly. He wasn't making a fight out of this, surprisingly. In fact he almost seemed defeated by everything. "I know I'm not perfect like you. I let my pups wear pyjamas as clothes, I can't cook to save my life and I allow them to get paint all over themselves that look like bruises. Trust me, I am well aware of how shitty of an appa I am."
"You are not a shitty appa" Seonghwa insisted. "You clearly love your puppies with all your heart. I can see the care and attention you provide them. I don't know why I would even think for a second that those could be marks from abuse. That is so inappropriate of me and I am truly sorry."
Hongjoong waved the concern away. "You weren't accusing me, '' he insisted. "You wanted to protect the pups, I get It.'' He gave a small shrug dismissing the concerns, to make it seem like he didn't care much. But Seonghwa knew he did.
"Again" Seonghwa tried his speech a second time. "You are an amazing appa and the pups are lucky to have you." A smile tugged at his lips. "Didn't I tell you yesterday that I would've wanted an alpha like you because you had done right by your pups?"
"Yeah but you were drunk" Hongjoong argued.
"I still mean it," Seonghwa offered. "If I was to have another alpha, trust somebody to raise pups alongside me, I'd pick you."
"You mean somebody like me," Hongjoong corrected lightly.
"What?" Seonghwa frowned.
"You said you'd pick me," Hongjoong explained. "To raise pups with you. I think you mean somebody like me."
"Ah" Seonghwa nodded. "Yes of course I did." He let the conversation fall away. He had asked the question he needed to in order to ensure the pups safety. He overstepped, and he apologized for that, thankfully without Hongjoong freaking out on him. But that didn't make things any less awkward between them both now.
Hongjoong glanced over at the clock, as if he wanted the conversation to end soon. Instead he calmly asked, "What time do you need to leave for work?"
Seonghwa hadn't considered that. Yesterday he booked the day off for personal reasons; he was supposed to return today for his normal shift. He would need to call in sick for work today. Although Yeosang was on his way home he wouldn't make it for today, meaning the omega was left without a sitter. It wasn't something he wanted to do. He needed the money, desperately. Losing out on another day of work was going to make him take a hit. Maybe he could take the pups and have them sit at a table for the day. But they will likely be distracted too easily. It was far from ideal.
Seonghwa sighed softly, caving to the alpha's questions. "I will have to call in sick today for work" he explained.
"Why?" Hongjoong frowned.
"No sitter" he nodded towards the pups watching TV. "Wooyoung was supposed to sit with them today so I could work. And with Yeosang being out of town until tonight, I don't have anyone else. I will need to stay home with them. Which is a positive I suppose. I probably need the time with my pups."
"But you had already missed yesterday" Hongjoong caught on. That was two days back-to-back loosing payment. And from what Hongjoong had gathered from previous conversations Seonghwa couldn't afford to miss those many days. He needed the money.
"Yeah," Seonghwa nodded. "Well nothing I can do about it now" he shrugged slightly.
"My sitter can probably watch your pups as well," Hongjoong impulsively suggests.
"What?" Seonghwa nearly dropped the plate he was holding.
"My sitter" Hongjoong repeated. He already suggested it, might as well continue. "I have three that I switch between. Today is my friend Jongho. He's off school today, so it's usually his day to watch the pups. I am sure he won't mind watching yours as well. What's just two more pups?" he really should check with Jongho before offering this care. But he was being impulsive with the omega, wanting to impress the other for some unknown reasoning.
"Oh I really can't impose on you" Seonghwa hesitated, however by the way he was nibbling on his bottom lip he truly appeared to be considering it.
"I'm serious" Hongjoong insisted. "It won't be an imposition or anything of the such. Jongho wouldn't mind. Let me just text him about It." he moved away from the kitchen to retrieve his phone that he had disregarded to the coffee table last night. However before he had so much of a chance to type a single word, he heard loud knocking come from out in the hallway.
"Hyung come on" a distant voice called with annoyance. "Hurry up."
"That'll Jongho," Hongjoong chuckled. Of course the alpha would be here early. Flashing a quick smile to the elder male he stepped out of the apartment.
The younger alpha was dressed in simple jeans and a t-shirt – which the season was a little too cold for – and he was knocking at Hongjoong's door.
"Jongho" Hongjoong called, stepping out of Seonghwa's apartment and pulling the door shut behind him to shield Seonghwa from his conversation.
"Hyung?" Jongho jumped a little, turning away from the door to gaze at Hongjoong. His eyes opened wide, snapping back to the apartment with worry. Was he banging on the wrong door? "I thought your apartment was 8B."
"It is" Hongjoong nodded. "But I was hanging out with my neighbour last night, helping him out and stuff. He's got two pups too so mine had a sleepover with them."
"And you got a sleepover too" Jongho smirked, raising a questioning eyebrow.
Hongjoong felt himself blush slightly. "I did not."
"So the pups slept over alone and you just magically appeared in the apartment this morning?" Jongho teased.
"Fine I slept over" Hongjoong caved. "But not like that. I was on the couch. Seriously my neighbour was having a hard night and I was just over here to support him."
"I see" Jongho gave a little nod that said he really didn't see anything. "Well are you coming back over here or not? Don't you have work today?"
"I do have work" Hongjoong hesitated, glancing back at the door.
"But?" Jongho raised an eyebrow again.
"But my neighbour does too" Hongjoong responded.
"Okay?" Jongho shrugged it off. "That's cool for him. I'm glad he contributes to society through employment. How is that relevant information to me?"
"Could you babysit his pups as well as mine?" Hongjoong decided to rip the bandage right off. He didn't have much time for any other form of discussion.
"Can I what?" Jongho's eyes widen.
"His name is Seonghwa, he's a single omega" Hongjoong started to explain. "He has two pups. Minjae, the same age as Youngseok and Sumin, one year younger. They are some of the sweetest pups you will ever meet and they get along so well with Youngseok and Junyoung. You won't even need to entertain them much. They will play with each other the entire time I promise."
"And he can't watch them himself?" Jongho frowned.
"I told you," Hongjoong answered. "He has work."
"What happened to his child care provider?" Jongho argued.
"His babysitter entered their heat yesterday and he hasn't been able to find another on such short notice" Hongjoong answered.
"And you thought I would be the solution?" Jongho wondered.
"I figured you were watching Youngseok and Junyoung anyways" Hongjoong tried to rationalize. But the pack alpha quickly sighed. He really shouldn't be putting that weight on anyone but himself. He shouldn't expect his pack to offer him as much support as they have. It's a miracle they willingly watch Youngseok and Junyoung regularly. This was inappropriate of him. "I'm sorry" Hongjoong sighed. "I shouldn't ask this of you. It's too much. Never mind."
The younger alpha however responded with a sigh. A small nod of his head signalled his agreement. "Alright. I will watch them," Jongho stated.
"You will?" Hongjoong's eyes widened.
"Yeah" Jongho shrugged. "I'm off, I got no homework today. I was ready to spend the whole day with the pups. Might as well include a play date."
Hongjoong sighed in relief. "Oh gosh thank you so much Jongho. You have no idea how much I appreciate it. Seriously.
Jongho shrugged. "No big deal. But you do owe me lunch. I'm not cooking for myself and four pups today."
Chuckling slightly Hongjoong nodded, "alright. Text me where you and the pups want to eat and I'll meet you there for lunch."
"Sounds like a plan" Jongho agreed, coming over to the pack leader. "And" he added just as Hongjoong rested his hand on the doorknob. "You can tell me all about this omega that you're trying to impress."
Hongjoong froze. "I'm not trying to impress anyone," he hissed.
"Sure you're not," Jongho chuckled. "You worry about all omegas this way." Silently he nodded towards the door, indicating they should enter.
With a slight glare Hongjoong admitted defeat pushing open the door to the omega's apartment. "Seonghwa '' he announced. Stepping inside he found that the elder male had finished off the dish independently and had moved to sit with the pups at the couch.
When the alpha entered Seonghwa turned around to view them over the back of his seat. Instantly noticing the newcomer he stood and bowed slightly. "Hello and welcome to my home."
"Thank you" Jongho nodded in return. "I'm Choi Jongho."
"Park Seonghwa" the omega responded.
"I am more than happy to watch your pups today," Jongho offered. "Minjae and Sumin, correct?"
"Yes," Seonghwa nodded eagerly. "But I really don't want to impose on you. This is too much to ask on such short notice."
"It's fine, '' Jongho insisted with a bright gummy smile. "I am twenty-one years old, I am an alpha, unmated if you needed to know, I attend college for performance and today is my day off so the entire time is dedicated to your pups. I am also a member of Hongjoong hyung's pack and the youngest member. I have cared for Youngseok and Junyoung regularly so I do have experience. I am also the eldest of my family, so I do interact with pups often."
Seonghwa nodded. He was appreciative that this young alpha was willing to talk openly with him and reassure the omega – especially considering he didn't need to request this information.
"Your pups will be in good hands," Hongjoong added with a warm smile.
"If you're a member of Hongjoong's pack I don't doubt that you would care for the well" Seonghwa stated. "I just don't want to be an inconvenience.
"You won't be," Jongho insisted. "I'm watching Youngseok and Junyoung. Minjae and Sumin can have fun with them for the day."
"At least let me pay you," Seonghwa tried to argue.
Jongho however was quick to deny the omega again. "I don't need anything in forms of payment. It's fine."
"I insist."
"And I refuse," Jongho smiled.
"It's best you listen to the maknae" Hongjoong chuckled. "He never loses a fight."
Seonghwa found himself completely caving after that. "Alright" he gave a small nod. "I just need to get changed. My shift starts soon." When the alphas nodded in understanding, Seonghwa left for his bedroom.
"I see why you want to impress him," Jongho chuckled.
"I do not want to impress him," Hongjoong hissed at him so the pups couldn't hear.
"I wouldn't blame you if you did," Jongho insisted slowly. "He's hot."
"He's more than hot," Hongjoong argued. "And that shouldn't be all you see about omegas. He is kind and intelligent and takes excellent care of his pups, works hard to provide for them."
Jongho smirked slightly. "Interesting."
"What's interesting?" Hongjoong snapped a little, causing Junyoung to glance over to them. But Hongjoong smiled and signalled to the pup that everything was fine.
"The way you feel about Seonghwa-ssi," Jongho explained. "You know I meant nothing inappropriate or sexual about calling Seonghwa hot. But you felt the need to defend him instantly. I find that interesting."
"Well you can stop finding things interesting" Hongjoong grumbled crossing his arms over his chest like a pouting child caught with his hand in a cookie jar.
"Is everything alright in here?" the omega returned, having been quick in just throwing on a black dress shirt.
"Perfect" Jongho answered with a smile. "How about you introduce me to the pups and then you both can be on the way to work?"
Seonghwa nodded and moved into the living room. Grabbing for the remote he turned the TV off, much to the dislike of Sumin. Hongjoong would text Jongho on his way to work to refrain from using the TV and other electricity too much.
"Minjae, Sumin," he said, kneeling down in front of them on the couch. "I want to introduce you to a new friend."
"We have friends" Minjae tilted his head slightly. Why would he need more friends when he already had more than enough?
Seonghwa chuckled slightly. "That's true. But this is a new friend." He reached out and gently stroked the pup's cheek. "Uncle Woo can't babysit you today and neither can San or Sang."
"Who babysits?" Minjae asked, a quick flash of concern moving across his eyes.
"Jongho will" Seonghwa waved Jongho over. "This is Jongho, and he is going to spend the day with all four of you. He is a very nice alpha and is part of Joong's pack."
"Four?" Sumin wondered, looking at his eomma.
"Yes," Seonghwa nodded. "Youngseok and Junyoung are going to spend the day with you."
"With uncle Jongho," Junyoung added, smiling brightly.
"Jongho is your uncle that's right" Seonghwa praised Hongjoong's pup.
Minjae still seemed nervous about the interaction though. Perhaps Youngseok picked up on his friend's nervousness and wanted to distract him with something fun. "Can we sing again?" he was looking at Jongho.
Jongho made a thinking face. "Hmm what do you want to sing?"
"Frozen?" Youngseok suggested, knowing his uncle had no difficulties in hitting the high notes.
"Sure" Jongho gave in easily. "We can sing lots of songs today."
"We sing?" Sumin questioned.
"Yeah" Jongho smiled warmly at the youngest pup. "We can sing any songs you want."
"Uncle's a good singer," Junyoung explained.
"I like singing," Minjae offered.
"I like singing too," Jongho smiled softly.
"We should let you get started on your concert" Hongjoong interjected, taking this as their chance to leave. Seonghwa seemed to hesitate. Hongjoong moved towards the omega and gently rested his hand on the elder's elbow. "Ready to go?" he questioned.
"Yeah" Seonghwa breathed out. He bent down to kiss each of the pups, all four, on their cheeks. "Eomma will be home soon. I love you. Be good." He stepped back, allowing Hongjoong to step forward and brush his cheek against each of the pups for a quick scenting, including Minjae and Sumin.
Once the goodbyes were spoken Hongjoong and Seonghwa had stepped out into the hallway. Seonghwa heaving a deep sigh. "You okay?" Hongjoong checked with the other.
"I'm fine," Seonghwa nodded.
"Jongho is a good alpha. He will take care of them" Hongjoong reassured.
"I know," Seonghwa agreed easily. "I just get nervous leaving my pups with someone I don't know very well."
"I'll send you his number" Hongjoong promised. "That way you can text him for updates throughout the day." Seonghwa hesitated in responded, but he seemed to want to say yes. Hongjoong just chuckled, taking his silence as an answer and pulling out his cell phone to text the omega. "Done."
"Thank you" Seonghwa breathed out hearing his phone vibrate.
"No problem" Hongjoong shrugged.
"Are you going?" Seonghwa asked with a nod down the hallway, the two having stood in front of Seonghwa's apartment door the entire time.
"I need to grab my computer and stuff" Hongjoong shrugged. "But you go. I'll see you later."
"See you tonight" Seonghwa nodded, already knowing they'd see each other on the balcony come dusk when their pups went to bed. With a small wave the omega left, giving the alpha the time he needed to gather his items and get to work.
"Ah look at you being on time today" Maddox smirked from his position behind his desk. He had his sketchpad on the desk and a pencil in hand. He didn't provide a lot in terms of design. The beta preferred to assist the others, work as a model and sell down in the store.
"When am I ever late?" Hongjoong rolled his eyes dramatically. He came to his own spot in the studio and opens his own books.
"Almost always" Maddox chuckled.
The alpha took his seat. "I had an early start to my day" he explained without giving much away. He really didn't need Maddox asking questions so early in the morning the way he knew he wanted to.
"Pups woke you up?" Maddox could fill in the blanks.
Technically it wasn't Hongjoong's pup that woke him up. That honour went to Sumin. But the beta didn't specify whose pups, so it's not a lie. "Yeah" Hongjoong nodded. "I don't think I realized how unpredictable a puppy sleep schedule can be."
"It gets better when they're older," Maddox responded. With their greetings out of the way and entering an easy conversation the beta had returned to his work. Across his desk was a deep purple fabric with what appeared to be little starbursts.
"And how would you know?" Hongjoong teased. He grabbed for his coloured pens, deciding to work on some finishing touches of shading and colour theme. The alpha had spent the past few days working in the storefront rather than in the studio. He missed the artistic side of things, even if it had only been a couple days.
Maddox chuckled lightly. "I don't," he answered honestly. "I'm just trying to reassure you positively." It was well known within EDENARY that none of the members were mated or married. The only member with pups was Hongjoong. Everyone was happily single; some members such as HLB and Leez having made that perfectly clear with the amount of flirting and clubbing that did.
"Thanks" Hongjoong smiles. He had learnt long ago, back during his time at KQ that he would meet very few people in his lifetime that truly understood what he was going through, the experiences he had. He had come to expect that people would offer whatever words of encouragement or support that they could. However, the ability to come to them and receive advice from one parent to another, wasn't available in this office, or his pack. And he was okay with. Especially now that he met Seonghwa. Another single parent that knew how difficult it was to put pups to bed or get out the door for work on time.
"What are you working on?" Hongjoong asked, changing the topic.
"A last minute design for a dress shirt" Maddox mumbled. "I'm not sure who would wear a purple starburst dress shirt other than an idol. But Eden requested it." The beta shrugged and discarded the extra fabric off to the side. It'll be used as scraps later as it wasn't large enough to be another major project.
"Hey" Hongjoong pointed to the fabric. "Are you going to use that for anything else?" He questioned.
Maddox raised an eyebrow. "The fabric that I just said only an idol would wear? No. I don't plan on using it. It'll go to our scraps. Maybe someone else can make use of it later."
"Could I have it?" Hongjoong hesitantly requested.
A small smirk formed on Maddox's lips. As though he knew something that he shouldn't. "What do you need it for?" Maddox rested his hand on top of it and tapped his fingers.
Hongjoong rolled his eyes slightly. "A project" he answered. What did the beta honestly think he needed the fabric for?
"A personal project?" Maddox's smirk only increased.
"Something like that" Hongjoong sighed deeply. "Can I have the fabric or not?"
"If you tell me why you need it," Maddox shrugged.
Hongjoong weighed his options. He could easily get another fabric. There wasn't anything special about that one. But he felt attached to it for some reason. He really believed it suited Sumin and that he'd like it. "I want to make a skirt for Sumin."
Maddox's eyebrows shot up. "Who the hell is Sumin? Cause if you're finally seeing somebody and didn't tell us I'd be very disappointed. And whose waist and legs are that small that that's all the fabric you need?" Maddox's eyes widened and he was practically leaning across the desk, like he could jump Hongjoong at any moment. "Sumin with a U or Soomin with two O's?"
Hongjoong gasped and made a disgusted face. "Dear god I am not dating Leez!" He looked at the beta as he grew a second head. "I'm not dating anyone."
"Who is Sumin?" Maddox pressed.
"Sumin is a pup" Hongjoong responded.
"A pup?" Maddox frowned. "I don't think I'm mistaken, but weren't your pups named Youngseok and Junyoung?"
"They are," Hongjoong nodded.
Maddox whispered, glancing quickly side-to-side, "did you steal somebody's pup?"
"I didn't steal anyone's pup" Hongjoong rolled his eyes again. "My neighbour has two pups. Sumin and Minjae. They're around Youngseok and Jung Young's age. They've been playing together."
"And you're spontaneously making one a skirt?" Maddox questioned.
"Youngseok was wearing a skirt the other day. You know how he likes that sometimes," Hongjoong explained. "He was playing with Sumin that day and it seems the younger took a liking to it. He requested I make him one too. So I talked to his eomma and he agreed. Sumin can have a skirt and I'm making it for him."
Maddox nodded in understanding. "His eomma agreed to the skirt? Sounds like a progressive parent. Similar to you. Not many would let their son wear a skirt. Especially one that could be an alpha."
"He is surprising accommodating to thoughts and opinions" Hongjoong nodded slowly.
"How have the designs been coming along for you?" Maddox asked, fiddling with a sketch, the conversation now shifting focus.
Hongjoong sighed softly, opening his sketchbook to a new page. "They're fine. I've started production on several pieces. The fabrics have been ordered."
"But?" Maddox questioned, reaching out for a drink of his coffee.
"No buts" Hongjoong shrugged.
"You're lying," Maddox chuckled. "I can always tell when you're lying based on the way you can't maintain eye contact. You always look away from me."
The alpha sighed. He hated that Maddox had come to know him so well in such a short amount of time. "It's not the designs that I'm struggling with" Hongjoong explained. "I have those set, just alterations."
"What's the problem?" Maddox frowned. "That seemed like a good thing.
Hongjoong nibbled his lip. "The issue is with the models."
"Excuse me!" Maddox's eyes widened. "I am the model! What issues could you possibly have with me?" he dramatically lifted his hand to his chest to appear hurt. The beta was always one for theatrics.
"You're my beta model" Hongjoong offered as response.
"Yeah so?" Maddox shrugged. "HLB is your alpha model. Both of us have plenty of experience. We are designers as well. How can you have issues with us?"
"HLB is my alpha model" Hongjoong answered, as though that would example everything.
"I still don't understand," Maddox frowned.
"I don't have an omega model" Hongjoong sighed deeply.
"Nobody?" Maddox looked taken back. "Did you call the local modelling agency?"
"Dozens" Hongjoong nodded. "All across Seoul and the surrounding cities."
"And nobody is available?" Maddox said in disbelief. "We can just change the dates of the photo shoot in that case."
"Nobody is employed" Hongjoong said stiffly.
"What?"
"Every modelling agency stated the same thing" Hongjoong slowly explained, having grown tired with the conversation already. He had been working on this for far too many days that he couldn't put much more energy into it. "They do not employ omegas as models."
"None?" Maddox questioned.
"Zero' Hongjoong held up his hand in the shape of an O.
"How do they suggest you get an omega model then?" Maddox furrowed his eyebrows.
"Most hung up on me directly after answering they don't have an omega model" Hongjoong responded. "Majority of those that I did get a chance to ask laughed at me. Any who did answer said you should check with the strip club. Since there's 'lots of omegas there willing to sell their body and look good doing it'"
"Oh that's fucking disgusting" Maddox made a face, sticking out his tongue slightly. "Why the fuck would they make it sound like that's all omegas are good for. And as though an omega modelling was the same as buying a human." Hongjoong nodded along to the beta's words, however that didn't seem to be a response that pleased him. "You're not fucking considering it are you?"
"Pimping out an omega from a strip club?" Hongjoong questioned. "No not really. Although stripping isn't something that we should consider disgusting. The terrible part is alphas thinking they own the omegas and are better than them, believing that stripping and sex work is all they're good for. I would rather post an ad or application for them to view, decide to call if they want. But I have been reaching out to omegas. Some from Instagram and other socials. Offering it as a partnership."
"And no luck?" Maddox wondered.
Hongjoong gave his head a small shake. "They don't believe me. They don't take my word for it." he shrugged slightly. "Not that I don't blame them. The industry has screwed them over one too many times. I am a random alpha calling them up to hire them for modelling, from a company that is just starting out."
"They probably think you're going to rape them" Maddox sighed.
"Exactly" Hongjoong agreed. That was one concern, but likely many others. All focusing on humiliation and sexualisation.
"What about asking for omegas that you know?" Maddox offered.
"I don't know any" Hongjoong shrugged.
"There's always that omega neighbour of yours" Maddox smirked slightly. There was a playful glitter to his eyes.
"I'm not going to ask him" Hongjoong insisted.
"Why not?"
"Seonghwa isn't a model."
"Eden said Seonghwa was hot."
Hongjoong tensed, snapping more than he would've liked at his hyung. "What is with people today calling Seonghwa hot? Yeah, he's attractive with his blonde hair and amazing bone structure. Plus he's got a good height and his waist is unbelievably small. But damn he is so much more than that. Why is that the first thing people notice about him?"
"You like him," Maddox smirked.
"I don't recall ever saying such a thing" Hongjoong insisted.
"You don't have to," Maddox argued. "I can see it in your eyes."
"Than you must be going blind" Hongjoong fired back.
"I certainly hope one of my best designers are not going blind," a deep voice stated from behind.
Turning in their chairs Maddox and Hongjoong were welcomed with the presence of Eden. Leaning against the door with his arms crossed over his chest the alpha was watching them amused.
"The only designer going blind around here is Hongjoong because he can't even recognize when he is in love," Maddox explained.
"I am not in love" Hongjoong huffed. Now he had taken this time to stand and move around the room. The young alpha needed a distraction, and gathering fabrics for his next design was the answer. Stepping away from the desk he was hoping his focus could be on something other than the conversation.
"So you haven't been spending time with your omega neighbour?" Maddox raised an eyebrow.
"Oh the bossy one?" Eden seemed interested in the conversation now as he fully entered the studio space and grabbed at a free chair to sit.
"His name is Seonghwa" Hongjoong rolled his eyes. "And no. Nothing major. We've just hung out a couple times."
"And that led to you wearing his clothes?" Eden questioned.
"His clothes?" Maddox's eyes widened. "You're wearing his clothes?"
Before Hongjoong could open his mouth to deny such a thing, Eden continued, "There's no denying it Hongjoong. I can smell an omega all over you. Orange. And I believe that was the smell on your balcony. It must be your omega neighbour."
"So you're wearing his clothes" Maddox smirked. "Why are you wearing his clothes? What happened between you both? Did you spend the night together? Oh my gosh are you finally getting some good dick? God knows you need to pop a knot or something. I'm a beta and even I can smell your sexual frustration. Which can't be good for you or your alpha."
"Could you let him gather his things? '' Eden started with a smirk, watching Hongjoong and waiting patiently.
"But I'm curious" Maddox stated the obvious glancing towards the elder.
"I am too," Eden answered and once he had taken his seat again. We will pounce."
Hongjoong rolled his eyes slightly as he grabbed at some white silk and lace. "So essentially if I don't sit down I don't need to answer any of your questions?" Hongjoong stated finding a loophole.
Maddox gave a dramatic gasp as his gaze shot back in Eden's direction. He glared daggers into him. "Look what you've done. Had we done it as I wanted to, I'd have my answers by now."
"Your way would include tackling him to the floor and holding him down until he gave you the answers you want to hear" Eden clarified to Maddox.
"Exactly," Maddox stated. "I would've gained answers."
Lightly Hongjoong chuckled under his breath. Moving across the room he gave in and took a seat at his desk once again. Although it had gone completely unnoticed by the elder two. Leaning back slightly he gave an amused shrug watching the two together.
"But it's not exactly a productive strategy, '' Eden insisted. "What if Hongjoong refused to answer once you got him to the floor?"
"I'd sit on him," Maddox answered with a shrug.
"You'd just sit on him until he gave you answers?" Eden raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah," Maddox replied. "Pretty much."
"Are you in kindergarten?" Eden teased.
"I already dress like one" Maddox stated waving down to his white pants with splatters of coloured paint swatches and a bright red button up that was half undone. "So I might as well act the part."
Eden rolled his eyes slightly, "I have employed an overgrown adult toddler."
"And aren't you so lucky for that" Maddox nodded triumphantly.
"Well" Hongjoong spoke pulling the attention back to himself. "We really haven't had anything going on. To that I swear. Most of the time we spend together has been due to the pups. Youngseok in particular has really taken to his pups in terms of friendship."
"That doesn't sound like Youngseok" Maddox said softly under his breath. "So you've just been hanging out?"
"Yeah. And for the most part I've enjoyed it" Hongjoong answered softly. "It was fun. The pups are seriously so incredibly adorable in the way they get along. The way that Sumin calls me appa! Oh god I feel like I'm going to melt! I've had to correct him of course. But it's like when Junyoung called me appa for the first time. It's always so unexpected and at the sweetest times. And Minjae is so protective over Youngseok now. I never would've suspected that from him. But it's almost like the baby alpha in him is showing through. I have seen the way he watches out for the younger pups at the park when they play together. It's very protective."
Maddox's eyes widened with astonishment as he took in the information. The first layer of his gaze was clearly that of joy. However, deep in his eyes was a look of a soft sadness. "Oh my" his voice softened. "How can the pups be so precious?" he clenched his hands slightly in front of his chest.
"How does that explain the omega scent on the clothes you're wearing?" Eden asked, always focused on the larger picture in life.
"Seonghwa was having a rough night yesterday" Hongjoong explained lightly. He really didn't want to give too much details away. He knew and recognized that this was Seonghwa's personal life that he was sharing. "It was his wedding anniversary."
"He's married?" Maddox asked, looking deflated slightly. He obviously had expected, or hoped, that Hongjoong had gotten closer with the omega in terms of a romantic interest.
"He was" Hongjoong shrugged. "Their bond broke a couple years ago. Yesterday was a pretty rough day on him."
"Understandably so," Maddox nodded in agreement.
"So we hung out on the balcony" Hongjoong began to fully explain. "We watched a movie, ate pizza and did a lot of drinking. He got a little tipsy and I helped him to bed."
"And you stole his clothes?" Eden raised an eyebrow. The comment earned a snicker from the beta, which made the alpha smile proudly.
"I did not" Hongjoong glared at his boss. "I spent the night."
"You just said he was tipsy!" Maddox gasped, eyes widening.
"What kind of alpha do you take me as?" Hongjoong's glare was now directed towards his friend. "I got him settled in bed and slept on the couch. I brought my pups over to have a sleepover with him. I feared he might be up during the night or need help with the pups in the morning. Surprisingly he bounces back very easily."
"So Seonghwa is okay now?" Maddox wondered.
"Seonghwa was good this morning," Hongjoong stated comfortably. But his behaviour showed his awkwardness. He shifted slightly – almost nervously in his chair. "He's warmed up around me I think. Definitely is acting more welcoming and comfortable. It was his suggestion that I borrow his clothes."
Eden should've been content with the information he received; however he frowns slightly. He had known Hongjoong long enough to notice the slight shift in his scent and his actions. "If everything went so positively, what's wrong?"
Hongjoong sighed softly and tried to shrug the concern off. However Eden wasn't having it. He raised an eyebrow as an action to push Hongjoong's explanation. Hongjoong slumped slightly in his chair. Eden was his dominating alpha. Naturally he struggled with saying no when he gave the alpha look. "Seonghwa and I almost kissed."
"You what!" Maddox's head snapped up, from the sketchbook he had absentmindedly working with, now quickly forgotten. "You kissed your broken bonded single eomma omega neighbour?" The beta's voice was beginning to increase.
The younger alpha was clearly taken aback. Hadn't Maddox just been wanting Hongjoong to get romantically involved with Seonghwa? Why had it so suddenly changed? "No, I didn't kiss him. But we almost did."
"You cannot just almost kiss an omega with a broken bond," Maddox stated in a firm voice. Setting the pencil on the table he pushed himself out of his seat. Standing firm the beta placed his hands on his hips. "Seonghwa isn't like those other omegas that you meet at a club or campus. He isn't somebody you crawl into bed with for a quick fuck. Seonghwa is not a fuck buddy or a one nightstand or anything that you've ever experienced. He is a serious relationship type guy. You do not simply kiss him. The only time you should ever even consider kissing an omega with a broken bond is when he is your boyfriend and the two of you are dedicated to each other. Do you understand me? So if you in any way push yourself on this omega I swear to god Hongjoong." Maddox had completely changed his mentality. Any kind of recommending Hongjoong and Seonghwa get closer went right out the window for some unknown reason.
"Hey" Eden spoke up in a firm voice directed at Maddox. "Relax a little Maddox. Hongjoong did nothing wrong." With a quick glance in Hongjoong's direction he noted the confused and lost gaze on the alpha's face. The younger one seemed hurt by the beta's words.
"I didn't take advantage of him" Hongjoong forced out quickly. "I didn't force myself on him or anything I swear hyung." His voice sounded so small in that moment. "I wouldn't do that. I wouldn't just take him to bed and fuck him once. You might not know me that well, but I'm not that type of alpha. Nothing even happened – and nothing will I swear. It was a heat of the moment almost kisses. We didn't actually kiss."
Maddox sighed softly at the sight of his baby alpha slumping in the chair with a look of sadness and regret. Maddox began to realize he was likely too hard on the younger man. "I'm sorry Hongjoong. I really shouldn't have snapped at you like that."
"Would it really be so bad if Seonghwa and I had kissed?"
Eden and Maddox shared between them a curious yet knowing glance. Eden nodded in Maddox's direction to reply, he would rather reverse how this conversation moved forward.
"Did you want to kiss him?" Maddox asked carefully. He didn't want to appear like he was continuing to judge the alpha. But he also wanted to gain an understanding of what was going on in Hongjoong's thoughts.
"I did" Hongjoong spoke softly. "There's... there's something about Seonghwa. He's incredibly standoffish when you first meet him; he has a constant wall built up around him. However he's also this omega that is willing to jump at any chance he can to help you when you need it or who will actually take the time to teach you the supposed proper way of apologizing. I've never met someone that is so dedicated and loving towards pups the way he is with Minnie and Su-Su. He is just as focused on his pups the way I am with mine. Everything he does in life is with them in mind. And god he smells so good. Usually I hate citrus, but his oranges are so mild and fresh that I just feel... well I don't know how to describe the way it makes me feel. I always just feel good. Good about myself and the world and everything."
A small smile tugged at Maddox's lips as he listened to the young alpha talk about an omega with such excitement – the first time he had ever heard Hongjoong do so. "Then no '' the beta spoke softly, answering Hongjoong's original question. "It wouldn't have been so bad had you and Seonghwa kissed."
Eden rolled his eyes. "It wouldn't have been that bad '' the alpha agreed. "However you need to recognize the effect it'll have on not only his omega but your alpha as well."
"What does our internal wolf have anything to do with this?" Hongjoong frowned.
The alpha and beta shared another look, as though deciding who would give the explanation. Eden eventually caved, being careful with his wording. "When a bond breaks, especially for omegas, they become more susceptible to imprinting."
"Imprinting?" Hongjoong frowned.
"You know what imprinting is right?" Maddox checked.
"Of course I do" Hongjoong nodded. It was some of the basic facts about their internal wolf. They could become drawn to another, naturally without much explanation.
"Omegas with a broken bond are more likely to imprint on an alpha," Eden explained. "The internal omega knows what it's missing in terms of having an alpha within their lives. They will, even if Seonghwa doesn't intend to, go searching for a mate after what they've broken apart from. It can lead to unpredictability. There is a stronger chance of their internal omega gaining more control often. They might make advances on the alpha. But never in a negative way. They want to impress the alpha. Make it so they appear like an ideal mate. The omega will do anything to catch the alphas attention and affection. Cooking for them, proving they can care for pups, listening to their stories and communicating better, showing interest in what the alpha loves, and presenting them with gifts. It will be similar to courting in a sense."
"So you think he imprinted on me?" Hongjoong tilted his head slightly.
"I don't think so," Eden answered. "Not yet at least. And this isn't me saying that you should distance yourself from him. But I want you to know about it, keep it in mind. So long as you are aware of it, then it's okay. You need to be careful and calm. And if he does imprint on you, don't discard him or belittle him for it. Take it easy on him. Let him down kindly if you must."
"He could really imprint on me?" Hongjoong was surprised.
"If his omega feels connected to your alpha" Maddox responded. "He can come to trust you enough that he starts seeing you as a potential mate."
"He's mentioned it before" Hongjoong frowned slightly.
"Mates?" Maddox raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah" Hongjoong nodded. "He's stated a couple times that he would like a mate similar to me, if he was to take another one again."
Eden and Maddox glanced at each other again.
"Has he already imprinted on me?" Hongjoong wondered.
"Likely not," Maddox shrugged. "But it's a possibility."
"And we just want you to be aware of it," Eden answered.
"Should I be distancing myself from him?" Hongjoong asked worriedly.
"Do you want to?" Maddox raised an eyebrow.
Hongjoong hesitated for a moment thinking it over. He had been enjoying the time he was spending with Seonghwa. He couldn't deny that slowly they had been growing closer and the connection deepening between them. He enjoyed the conversations they shared and the time they spent out on the balcony. Seonghwa was intelligent and quick-witted. Yes, he was an excellent cook, kept his apartment clean and cared well for his pups, those stereotypical omega characteristics. However he was much more than that.
"No," Hongjoong answered. "I don't want to do that at all."
"Then don't" Eden answered. "You can get closer to him, you deserve that opportunity."
"And don't worry about the way I reacted," Maddox added with a smile. "So long as you know about the possibility of imprinting, then that's what counts. You can get close to him, don't deny yourself that."
Eden nodded along, "you can court him if that's something you're interested in."
"And kiss him all you want," Maddox smirked.
"I wouldn't say I'm interested in courting him" Hongjoong felt a bright blush form on his cheeks. He wasn't one for interacting in relationship conversations. The alpha preferred to keep his personal life to himself. Especially considering Eden and Maddox weren't technically members of his back.
"Not yet anyways" Maddox had fully returned to his teasing nature.
Hongjoong rolled his eyes. Wanting the conversation to end he turned back to his desk fully. "Shouldn't we get some work done?" he glanced at Eden. "I'm sure there was a reason you came in here hyung."
"Ah yes there was," Eden nodded. "I was actually going to ask you for a favor."
"A favor?" Hongjoong frowned. "What kind?"
"I have a meeting in a few minutes," Eden explained. "I was hoping you could go out and grab my coffee for me."
"Your coffee?" Hongjoong tilted his head.
"Yeah," Eden nodded. "There's this really great place down the street I always go to. Of course if I had time I'd go myself. But I'm in a rather rush today."
"It's the only place he'll drink coffee from" Maddox interjected. Now this Hongjoong knew to be a lie considering he had seen the alpha drink that burnt thick coffee from the staff room.
"I could yeah" Hongjoong nodded. He was the newest employee, who was he to turn his boss's simple request down? He grabbed at his jacket and stood. "Just a black coffee?"
"Correct" Eden, flashed a smile. "It's just about a ten minute walk down the street, it's called Aurora Café. You can't miss it, it's a very bright place."
"I know the place. I've been there a few times." Hongjoong gave another nod of confirmation and head out of the studio, still looking confused regarding his need to head out to the café.
"Do you think he caught on?" Maddox whispered, ensuring the young alpha walking away couldn't hear him.
"Nah" Eden shrugged. "He seems clueless."
"Do you think it'll work out between him and this Seonghwa omega?" Maddox questioned.
Eden chuckled in response, "he seems clueless about that too."
Hongjoong walked away from the two elders completely clueless as to what they were planning. Although he was curious as to why the sudden need to have this specific coffee. He had never considered Eden to be that particular. However he was still the newest member of EDENARY, and try as he might he occasionally feared being let go. He wanted to make a good impression – even if that meant taking a trip to buy his boss his morning coffee like an underpaid intern.
Getting into the short line at Aurora Café Hongjoong glanced overhead at the menu boards – although he already knew what he wanted. Gazing over the display cases his eyes zeroed in on a slice of orange squares with extra icing sugar. Licking his lips slightly in temptations he heard his name being questioned.
"Hongjoong?"
The alpha glanced up with surprise and found that the line had moved on and he was next up for to place an order. However what was more shocking was the omega that had addressed him. "Seonghwa?" Hongjoong asked stepping forward to the counter. Across from him, dressed in a slick black apron was the omega with elegant blonde hair.
"What are you doing here?"
"Working" Seonghwa, laughed stating the obvious. "I would ask you the same thing. But it's safe to assume you came to a coffee shop for a coffee." The omega leaned against the counter and watched the alpha with interest. "Although I did make you one back home."
"I mean I didn't realize you worked here," Hongjoong stated. It was usually a part time job for local college students. Hongjoong had never put much thought into it but the omega did say he worked part time at a coffee shop. "Besides, that was only one coffee. I need a minimum of three to function."
Seonghwa shrugged "I got it during my college years and I've been lucky enough the owners have agreed to keep me on."
"In that case I'm surprised I've never seen you around here" Hongjoong answered. "I come here fairly often. To be honest it's the only coffee shop near the apartment that actually knows how to make a half decent drink."
With a small chuckle Seonghwa nodded "you could say that again. We likely have passed each other just never paid much attention." Seonghwa straightened his back and smiled slightly "now what can I get you to drink?"
"Iced coffee please" Hongjoong ordered "with extra milk. And one plain black."
Seonghwa raised a curious eyebrow. "Iced coffee?"
"Don't tell me you are prejudice against ice coffee," Hongjoong gasped dramatically, clenching his hand over his heart. "You already think my morning coffee isn't sweet enough."
"Only when ordered in cold weather" Seonghwa replied with another little giggle. Hongjoong couldn't resist smiling in response. The laugh was so light and breathy that Hongjoong found it to be something beautiful.
"But it's September" Hongjoong insisted. "Practically still summer. It won't be winter for a couple more months"
"I think you're missing an entire season," Seonghwa stated. However he had moved around the counter and proceeded to begin preparing the drink. "We have autumn before we get to winter."
"Ah that's true." Hongjoong smiled a cheeky little grin. "However the first day of autumn is Chuseok, which we haven't had. At least I don't remember going to your house to meet your parents."
"My eomma still wont let that go," Seonghwa stated, placing a lid on the coffee and setting it down.
"You tried explaining it to him again?" Hongjoong leaned against the counter.
Seonghwa gave a small shrug "I did. But he's insisting that I'm just saying it because I don't want him to know or something. He keeps going off about how good of an alpha you seem to be and that I should be more willing to show you off. If I'm not willing to showcase my alpha then you are likely to find another."
Hongjoong rolled his eyes at that. "I don't need a mate that'll show me off. I don't need the entire world to know about my relationship. So long as he treats me right and we are happy."
The omega gave a bashful smile and nodded towards the display case. "Can I get you anything else?"
"Yeah. Can I get three of those orange squares?" Hongjoong answered. When Seonghwa gave him a curious look Hongjoong added in a muffled tone.
"Got a hot date to impress?" Seonghwa asked softly. He served out the three slices carefully into separate bags. He eyed the multiple drinks the alpha ordered.
"Ha, only in my dreams" Hongjoong stated. With a small smirk Hongjoong leaned forward across the counter so his face was directly before Seonghwa. He added in a low voice "every night." When Seonghwa's eyes widen in a comedic fashion Hongjoong barked out a laugh. "Joking" he raised in hands up in a sign of defeat.
Seonghwa gave him a look of warning as he silently slid the three bags across the counter for Hongjoong.
"I'm here on the behalf of my boss" Hongjoong explained. "He needed a last minute coffee run. I figured the pastry was a nice bonus treat."
"That is certainly nice of you" Seonghwa flashed a warm smile. "Oh and I wanted to thank you again for recommending Jongho. The other staff called in sick. So you are really saving both me and the café today."
"It's no problem" Hongjoong shrugged. "I promise he didn't mind."
"How did you guys meet?" Seonghwa wondered. Jongho was a couple years younger than Hongjoong after all.
"I had a friend from high school that came to live in Seoul with his boyfriend, they began working with Jongho during university. Over the years we've all gotten close so it's nice to meet up in the city more often now."
"That's nice," Seonghwa smiled. "I'm glad you were able to keep contact with friends even after you moved so far apart."
"Didn't stay friends with anyone from Jinju?" Hongjoong questioned.
"Not really," Seonghwa shrugged. "A little at the beginning but then we drifted apart. Although that might be more in regards to eomma and me becoming than actual distance. They had never been supportive the way Wooyoung, San and Yeosang are."
"To be honest I lost a lot of friends that way too" Hongjoong answered honestly. "When you become a teen parent there's a lot of judgement behind it. Yunho, Mingi and Jongho are my version of Wooyoung, San and Yeosang."
"Are they your pack?" Seonghwa questioned. Asking about packs could be rather personal. It wasn't something to wonder so carelessly as a lot get offended – especially if they don't have a pack. But Hongjoong didn't seem to care much about those types of questions.
"They are" Hongjoong nodded, a beaming smile came across his face. "I'm the pack alpha – although I don't understand why they'd pick me to lead."
"I think you'd make a great pack of alpha," Seonghwa answered nervously.
"Thank you Seonghwa" Hongjoong's voice was soothing. "Is San your pack alpha?"
"Ah no" Seonghwa shook his head. "Actually I'm packing omegas. They... they said they wanted me to lead. I don't know if it's because I'm the eldest or if they felt pity for me. But yeah. I'm packing omegas."
"I don't think it's because your eldest or out of pity" Hongjoong stated firmly. "From what I've seen of you, you'd make a great pack omega. You have the strength and intelligence to lead. Any pack that you form is bound to be amazing."
Seonghwa felt a light blush come up to his cheeks. "Thank you. That means a lot to me coming from a pack alpha."
Hongjoong quickly shook his head. "Don't say it like that."
"Like what?"
"Like I matter more than another because I'm pack alpha" Hongjoong insisted. "That should never be the case. I am pleased they pick me to guide them. But I am not naturally better than another alpha simply for that."
Seonghwa smiled softly. "Your pack is lucky to have you."
"And your pack is lucky to have you as pack omega" Hongjoong insisted.
