An Omega Needed

"Oh you're out here again," Seonghwa stated, stepping out onto the balcony with his coffee cup in hand. The omega wasn't ready for another deeply emotional chat; especially so soon after he had let his walls down.

"I am" Hongjoong nodded leaning against the railing, also with a coffee cup. "I see you are too, with your extra sweet coffee." He raises his mug towards Seonghwa in a cheers motion.

Seonghwa chuckled slightly, sipping his coffee slowly. Pulling the mug back he released a dramatic sigh. "Ah sugar with two spoons of coffee. Just how I like it."

Hongjoong, who had been mid-sip, let out a snort. He quickly raised his hand to cover his mouth as he released a loud cough. "You're funny!" He forced out through his coughing fit.

The other rolled his eyes, "glad I could amuse you." He slumped back further in his seat feeling as though he was being mocked.

"No I'm being serious" Hongjoong cleared his throat. With the coughing under control he could explain fully. "I didn't realize you could actually crack a joke like that."

"Oh so you just thought I was lame?" Seonghwa asked.

"Kinda yeah" Hongjoong shrugged.

Seonghwa's face fell. Why did he suddenly feel like a wilted orange blossom? His internal omega felt like turning around in a circle and hiding his nose under his set of paws.

"Not in a bad way" Hongjoong stepped forward quickly. The alpha had picked up on the saddened scent, figuring he had upset the omega without intending to. But Seonghwa responded with a raised eyebrow, as though to question how he could mean it any other way. "I just thought you acted like an adult."

"I am an adult?" Seonghwa questioned, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "And you are too."

"Yeah but I mean the type of adult like our parents" Hongjoong crossed the balcony and claimed the seat beside Seonghwa, their legs brushing against each other.

"We are parents too" Seonghwa glanced at him.

Hongjoong groaned, but there was a light laugh underneath. "Well yeah, I got two pups inside that ensure that statement is true. I meant the type that works those boring office jobs sitting in a little cubical only ever getting out when there's a meeting. Not to mention the damn monkey suits you have to wear!"

"What's wrong with suits?" Seonghwa frowned.

"Nothing," Hongjoong shrugged. "They're boring, they all look the same in terms of colours and cuts. There's nothing unique in it."

"You sound as though you have lots of experience in wearing suits," Seonghwa said. Was he trying to get to know the alpha? Were they having an actual conversation today? Without cursing each other out or over sharing personal details?

"Wearing them? No" Hongjoong shook his head. "But I have designed my fair share of them."

"You design clothes?" Seonghwa sat up a little straighter with interest. He turned his body so he was facing the alpha, his knees digging into the other's thighs.

"I do" Hongjoong answered, glancing down at their legs.

"That's so cool!" Seonghwa gasped. "Have I seen any of your designs?" his eyes were round and his scent spiked. The omega was truly interested in what Hongjoong did for a living.

"Ah, yes and no" Hongjoong responded, with earned a look of confusion from the omega. "I don't have any designs in a shop or on the runway yet. I mean it's why I moved to Seoul, so that I can have more opportunities like that. But you have seen some of my projects. The clothes my pups wear, I made it."

"You design custom clothes for your pups?" Seonghwa raised his hand to his heart. "That is so adorable. Oh gosh I wish I could do something like that for myself. My eomma once tried to teach me to knit, he insisted that it would be nice if I as their eomma could make my pups blankets at birth. But that obviously didn't work out. The only thing I'm really good at doing with my hands is building figurines. Oh and cooking, I'm not bad with that. To be able to create a product that my pups could actually benefit from, that would be a dream come true."

"I could teach you" Hongjoong found himself answering. What the hell was wrong with him? The answer had just slipped through. Why would he even think about doing something like that?

"Really?" Seonghwa perked up, the orange scent filling the balcony, as though they were walking through an orchard. And that is why Hongjoong said what he did. To receive happiness such as this from the omega.

"Sure, why not" Hongjoong shrugged in an attempt to play it cool. "I actually agreed to make something for Sumin."

"You did?" Seonghwa's eyebrows furrowed together slightly.

"Yeah" Hongjoong gave a small nod. "When the pups went to the park together. I mentioned how I made Youngseok's skirt and Sumin said he wanted one too."

"Sumin said he wanted a skirt?" Seonghwa questioned.

Hongjoong was used to the negative response from parents, in fact he had grown to expect it. He could recognize the spike in scent the moment he mentioned his own pup wearing a skirt. Seonghwa however seemed indifferent; there was a lack of interest perhaps in it?

"He did" Hongjoong nodded firmly. Seonghwa simply nodded along in response to it, his gaze shifting away from Hongjoong to look out at the sky. "I said I would talk to his eomma first. I know that not all parents are welcoming to the idea of their pups wearing clothing that don't align with their assigned genders."

"You think I don't want him wearing a skirt?" Seonghwa's head snapped towards Hongjoong, a flash of anger to his eyes.

"That's not what I meant" Hongjoong raised a hand in sign of innocence. "I just mean in general parents all have their own perspectives. Some of which hold hard onto gender norms."

"My pups can wear whatever they want" Seonghwa huffed, raising his coffee to drink slowly.

"Then what was with your face" Hongjoong questioned.

"There was nothing on my face," Seonghwa frowned.

"Yeah there was" Hongjoong insisted. "It looked like you were thinking something deep." When Seonghwa nibbled on his bottom lip slightly, Hongjoong knew he was correct. "Come on, tell me what was one your mind."

Seonghwa sighed, "I don't mean this in a bad way. I was simply surprised is all." he glanced towards Hongjoong, "I didn't think you'd be welcoming to the idea of Sumin wearing a skirt, much less your own pups."

"Oh" Hongjoong nodded slowly in understanding. "Because I'm an alpha right? I don't care what clothing my pups wear, so long as it's not inappropriate or anything. Youngseok wearing a skirt is completely fine with me. I encourage it. I want to raise my pups to be individuals, to learn how to express them. Hell, I'm wearing a skirt."

"You wear a skirt?" Seonghwa's eyes widened. "But you're an alpha!"

"I am" Hongjoong chuckled. "I thought we established that. I care about individuality, being you. How can I encourage that for my pups if I don't uphold those values myself? So yeah, I'm an alpha that wears skirts. They make me feel pretty."

"They make you feel pretty?" Seonghwa breathed out softly.

"They do" Hongjoong responded. "Don't we all want to feel pretty about ourselves?"

"Of course," Seonghwa nodded. "But aren't omega's supposed to be the cute ones? We're designed to be soft and sweet, with the cute appearance and pastel colours. Alpha's are presented as sexy and rough, with a mysterious sense about them."

"That's just unfair expectations put on by society," Hongjoong argued. "Just because you're an omega doesn't mean you need to dress in some light weight, ill formed outfit in the ugliest shade of yellow. Just like how I don't have to wear leather pants and chains all the time."

Seonghwa glanced at him curiously. "So you would be fine with your omega wearing black leather jackets and combat boots?"

"My omega can wear whatever the hell he wants so long as he's comfortable in his own appearance" Hongjoong answered sharply.

The omega seemed pleased with the answer, his scent mellowing out slightly. "Sumin can wear a skirt. And you are welcome to make him one. Only so long as it doesn't take time away from your work or your pups. I wouldn't want this to hinder you in any way."

Hongjoong smiled softly, "it won't hinder me. Besides, I'll be sharing the work with you."

"You'll what?" Seonghwa's eyes widened slightly.

"I said I would teach you" Hongjoong explained. "So you can help me make Sumin his skirt. That way your pup has something his eomma made special for him."

"You'll do that?" Seonghwa asked softly. "You're willing to teach me?"

"Of course" Hongjoong smiled. "I promised I would."

Seonghwa remained silent for a moment. Considering why the alpha was being so sweet with him. A small smile tugged at his lips. "Thank you," he said. "I'd like that very much."

Hongjoong nodded, letting the conversation fall away. He sat, breathing in the autumn air and taking slow sips of his coffee. It felt nice to be out there with somebody else. Talking wasn't necessary; it was nice to simply feel like you weren't alone. But of course for the omega, he liked his conversations.

"You aren't usually out here in the mornings," Seonghwa pointed out.

"Yeah" Hongjoong agreed. "The pups and I like to sleep in normally."

"Why are you awake so early today?" Seonghwa questioned. The sun had only just begun to rise before he had stepped out to the balcony.  It seemed strange the alpha would be awake today. "Work?"

"Actually I do need to start waking up early for work" Hongjoong pointed out. "But no. Youngseok has a doctors appointment this morning."

Seonghwa's scent spiked with worry. "The doctors? Is he sick? Is something wrong? Have you checked his temperature? Has there been a shift in his scent? Are you certain you can wait for the doctors? Perhaps the hospital is better."

Two days ago, Hongjoong would've been furious at the omega for asking. He would have seen it as criticizing, a crack at his inability as a parent. Now however, he could see the concern behind Seonghwa's eyes.  "He's fine" Hongjoong quickly insisted. "It's not that kind of doctors appointment. He's going to see a therapist."

"Oh" Seonghwa's eyes softened slightly. "Has he been struggling with the move?" his eyes quickly widened. "Oh gosh I'm sorry," he said. "I probably shouldn't be asking you something personal like that."

"It's okay, you can ask" Hongjoong gave a small smile. "It's been a couple years now. He had a therapist back in Anyang, but I'm not sure if it ever actually helped him. They say it's childhood trauma coming out through nightmares. He struggles with sleeping and when he does he has the night terror that sets his whole day off."

"And there's nothing to soothe him?" Seonghwa wondered, it sounded almost as though there was sadness in his voice.

"No, not usually" Hongjoong shakes his head. "I hold him, hoping my scent can assist in some way, speak to him softly. But it never works. I know I'm not who he needs or wants in those moments."

Seonghwa hesitated, nibbling on his bottom lip. "His eomma?"

"Yeah" Hongjoong nodded slowly. "Nothing I can do about that I guess. I just need to try my best."

"I couldn't imagine it" Seonghwa's voice was soft. "My pup is in distress like that and I can't do anything to help him?"

"Trust me" Hongjoong sighed. "It's one of the worst feelings as a parent, you think you failed."

"You haven't failed," Seonghwa insisted. "This is beyond your control."

"I know" Hongjoong glanced towards Seonghwa. "But knowing it doesn't make it any easier." Hongjoong sighed softly and stood. "I should probably go wake the pups, we need to start getting ready. I'll be back in a couple minutes."

"Sure" Seonghwa nodded. "Take your time." He watched Hongjoong saunter back inside to his apartment. Sighing softly, Seonghwa considered going back into his own living room. He knew he pushed a conversation that the other was likely uncomfortable with. Why couldn't he just mind his own business?

He knew the answer to that. Of course he did.

It was his eomma instincts. He felt it tug at him with worry over the pup. The pup wasn't even his own! But he was concerned. He needed to know that he was okay or if there was anything he could do to assist. Maybe he's not that close with Hongjoong, but he would always care about pups.

Feeling his phone vibrate in his pocket, he tugged it free. Smiling, he saw his eomma's name. Perfect, a nice distraction.

"Hi eomma!" he accepted the video call, his eomma's face coming up. The two had a very close relationship, closer than Seonghwa could've imagined – especially after his two unplanned pregnancies and failed mating. They often spent mornings video chatting with their coffee outside. And although his eomma spent most of the time trying to convince his son to leave Seoul and return home, it was still nice conversations.

"Hello my Shining Star" Haneul smiled, creases forming in his eyes. "How are you today? The pups good?"

"I'm a good eomma," Seonghwa smiled, "and the pups are well too. They're still sleeping."

"Ah" Haneul nodded, sipping his tea. "Sounds like everything is how it normally is. Nothing new?" Seonghwa lived a very predictable lifestyle. He knew his son's schedule just as well as Seonghwa did.

"Actually they've made a couple new friends this week," Seonghwa explained.

"Really?" Haneul raised a curious eyebrow.

Seonghwa nodded. "We got a new neighbour and he has two pups of his own. They've taken a real liking to each other. So they've already been to the park a couple times. I'm hoping I can set up another playdate soon."

"Sounds like the pups had a good time," Haneul smiled.

"They really did!" Seonghwa gushed. "Minjae can't stop talking about his new friend Youngseok. They've been practicing soccer together and apparently Minjae has really improved. I was considering signing Minnie up for the local team. They practice in the park on Monday evenings. So I know it might not always fit in my schedule to make it, but if San and Wooyoung agree to assist, I'd like for him to give it a try."

"Really?" his eomma questioned with a slight raise to his eyebrows.

Seonghwa chuckled softly. "Don't sound so surprised, eomma." although it likely was something to be surprised about. It wasn't that Seonghwa discouraged his pups from having social interactions. It's just something they were not often exposed to. They played with the occasional kid at the park but he wouldn't necessarily consider them to be friends. For him to arrange regular play dates with the same pups and to sign them up for a club or team, this was new territory for him.

"You know I've always encouraged the pups to build friendships" Seonghwa insisted softly.

Haneul smiled, "I know you have. It just hasn't been the easiest go for the pups nor has it been for you. You stay so tight within those friendships of yours. It's nice to know that you were connecting with other parents."

"You know how much my friends mean to me," Seonghwa stated, feeling a little defensive over the implications. "The three mean so much to me. San, Wooyoung and Yeosang have been a huge influence on my success here in Seoul. I wouldn't be where I am without them."

His eomma sighed deeply. "You would be home in Jinju," he said. "Instead of feeling obligated to remain in the city."

"I don't feel obligated to do anything," Seonghwa argued. "Seoul is my home. It is the only home that the pups have known. I don't want to take them away from that."

"But you could bring them to your family," Haneul responded. "We would be able to assist you."

"They have family here too" Seonghwa fought back. "San, Wooyoung and Yeosang are my family. That doesn't belittle my relationships with you, appa and hyung. So please don't think that it does. I am so grateful for all of you. Just as I am for the family here. It is with all of you that I have been able to move forward after Woobin's departure. You know I wouldn't be who I am today without all of you. I am strong because you raised me to be."

"Oh silly puppy," his eomma said. "I'm not talking about strength. I'm just saying it might be nice for a change in environment. The city is so rushed and harsh. It's calmer here in Jinju, it's relaxing. It would be such a nice place to raise the pups. You loved growing up here Seonghwa." Haneul hesitated for a moment, before rushing out the words before he could be stopped. "Plus your appa and I know several eligible alphas around here. Do you remember the young neighbour that you went to high school with? He's graduated university now and he is set to start at a very prestigious office in the next couple weeks."

There it was. Seonghwa knew his eomma was getting at something through this conversation. Haneul had just simply waited for the opportunity. Over the past couple years his eomma had insisted that Seonghwa find another alpha. That it would help soothe the broken bond, provide him comfort. Haneul also insisted that it would be good for the pups, that Sumin and Minjae needed an alpha in their life. Mating was the best way to ensure that an alpha would stay. Although Seonghwa highly doubts that. If an alpha could leave an omega, despite knowing they had carried and birthed two of their own children, an alpha could leave and break a bond at any time.

"Eomma," Seonghwa said. "I am happy with my life. I don't need to return to Jinju to find an alpha."

"Well you certainly can't find one in Seoul," his eomma argued gently.

"That's because I'm not trying to find one," Seonghwa insisted. " If I wanted an alpha, I would get one. But I don't. I am happy with the way my life is." Now, he likely would've said more, there was certainly more to say. But much to his surprise Hongjoong had returned to the balcony. Seonghwa had originally assumed that the alphas' statement in the promise of return had simply been out of politeness. He had not expected Hongjoong to follow through with it

"Hey" Hongjoong said stepping out. "Sorry that took longer than I expected."

Seonghwa glanced away from his phone for a second. "How are the pups?" he asked.

Hongjoong chuckled lightly at an unknown joke. "Tired, but at least they're in the process of waking up. I'll go back in and check on them in a couple minutes."

"Who is that?" the sound of Haneul's voice cut through the conversation.

"W-what?" Hongjoong looked around the balcony in confusion.

Seonghwa waved the phone in his hand, indicating to the alpha that the voice had come from there. "I was just chatting with my eomma" Seonghwa explained. He turned the screen to it faced Hongjoong. "Say hi."

Hongjoong was caught off guard. Of course he was, this was certainly not an ideal way to meet a parent – especially the parent of somebody you barely knew. They were acquaintances at best. But here he was meeting Seonghwa's eomma.

Not to mention he was currently standing without a shirt. Only dressed in low riding sweatpants and his hair completely tussled. It was not a great display to make in front of anyone.

"Hi" Hongjoong forced the words out, raising his hand and giving a little wave of his fingers. "I'm Kim Hongjoong. It's a pleasure to meet you Mr. Park," he stated, giving a small bow.

"It is nice to meet you too," the elder omega stated. "I wish I could say I had heard a lot about you. Unfortunately my son did not grant me that courtesy."

"Eomma!" Seonghwa gasped quickly, turning the camera back towards him.

"I can see why you don't want to leave Seoul now," Haneul answered with a light chuckle. "And of course it is understandable that you wouldn't be searching for an alpha, considering you have already found one."

"What?" Seonghwa's eyes widened. "No, eomma! It's nothing like that. Hongjoong isn't my alpha."

"Oh I understand," Haneul said with a wink. "I know how things are in this generation. You don't like to make anything official too soon. Courting these days goes on for years. Whereas back in my time the process was much quicker. Although I never quite understood the reasoning, considering despite the years of courting, your generation still has the highest bond breaking percentage. Regardless, however you wish to define things does not matter to me. Hongjoong-ssi seems like a nice young alpha.

"Although he should be wearing a shirt! Not only is it autumn and he could catch a chill, but also there are pups walking around! They are impressionable at this age. I don't think that is the attitude you wish to teach them."

Seonghwa opened his mouth to argue again, attempting to explain that the relationship was not the way his eomma implied it to be.

Hongjoong however beat him to it. Although, rather than denying it, he simply stated, "yes sir! You are right. It is rather chilly out here. And I certainly don't want to present myself inappropriately around the pups or yourself sir. I will grab a sweatshirt right now. If you'll excuse me.'' The alphas' voice was polite but rather panicked. He stepped backwards through the balcony doorway, sliding it shut behind him.

Seonghwa sighed deeply. "Eomma, you don't understand. It really isn't like that. He's just my-"

"Technicalities" Haneul insisted, cutting his son off. "Like I said, I don't care what you refer to it as. Think of it however you wish."

"There's nothing," Seonghwa tried again.

"He does seem like a nice alpha Seonghwa. He appeared a little on the small side in terms of height from what I could see but his broad shoulders and chest make up for that. He will do well with the pups, but the hair colour is an interesting choice." Haneul paused, thinking something over. "Is he an alpha, correct?"

"He is," Seonghwa nodded hesitantly.

"Excellent. You must bring him with you to celebrate Chuseok with us" Haneul insisted. "Now I am aware he likely has his own family to spend the holiday with. But he must recognize the importance of this with the pups. If he is a dependable intelligent alpha he will come with you."

"Eomma" Seonghwa tried again, "it's really not like that."

"I must be going" his eomma stated instead. "Your appa will be awake soon for breakfast. Plus you should be preparing breakfast for your pups and alpha like the good omega you are."

Seonghwa sighed softly. Yet another stereotype his eomma had regarding omegas. Be with an alpha. Raise the pups. Do the cooking and the cleaning. He loved his eomma, he truly did. Just sometimes they didn't see eye to eye.

"I'll call you in a couple days" his eomma stated.

"We can time it a little later," Seonghwa said. "So that you can talk to the pups as well."

"Oh that'll be lovely," Haneul said. "Perhaps your alpha will be around too." He didn't wait for a response. Quickly he added, "bye Shining Star." And then the call ended.

Seonghwa took a deep sigh and leaned his head back against the wall. Softly he heard the door to the balcony slide open again. Followed by slight shuffling.

"Is it safe?" Hongjoong questioned, sticking his head out through a small opening.

"Yeah," Seonghwa answered. "I ended the call."

Hongjoong stepped back out onto the balcony. He sat himself down beside Seonghwa with a sigh. "Why would you do that?" Hongjoong questioned, eyeing Seonghwa suspiciously.

"Do what?" Seonghwa raised an eyebrow in confusion.

"Answer the phone call," Hongjoong stated.

"Oh" Seonghwa smiled innocently. "My eomma calls a couple times a week. We have a little tradition of sitting outside in the mornings and chatting. You're not usually out here so I suppose you wouldn't have noticed."

"Yeah but why would you answer if you knew I was coming back?" Hongjoong's frowned.

"I didn't know you were coming back," Seonghwa frowned.

"I said that I would be" Hongjoong insisted.

Seonghwa gave a small shrug. "Alphas say that all the time. Doesn't make it true."

Hongjoong's facial expressions softened slightly. Had alphas hurt Seonghwa so much in the past that the omega couldn't take Hongjoong's word for his return? The trust and belief just couldn't be there? That was heartbreaking. No one deserved that. Seonghwa should be able to rest assured that Hongjoong, or any alpha, will keep their word – especially something that seemed as simple as coming back outside to the balcony.

"Well" Hongjoong stated softly. "If I promise something, you can trust that I will follow through. I'm not like those other deadbeat alphas that just say shit with the intentions of impressions. I mean what I say."

Seonghwa watched him silently. Slowly he began to nod. "I can tell," he said. "That you seem like the type of alpha to keep his word."

"I am" Hongjoong nodded determinedly.

"The pups are awake?" Seonghwa questioned.

"They are," Hongjoong shrugged. "Kinda at least. They're still cuddling in bed but they're no longer sleeping. I'll head back in soon and get them dressed. What about your pups? Shouldn't they be awake?"

"They should be," Seonghwa giggled lightly. "But they are heavy sleepers. It's almost impossible to wake them up. So I tend to just wait."

"Ah, so the one thing you aren't so stickler on" Hongjoong chuckled. "Wake up time."

Seonghwa smiled, leaning his head back but still glancing to the side. "I like my sleep just as much."

"Yet you're always out here early morning" Hongjoong pointed out.

"Oh and how do you know I'm out here in the mornings?" Seonghwa teased.

"I can see you through the balcony door" Hongjoong started with a nod at his door.

"Are you watching me?" Seonghwa raised an eyebrow.

"No!" Hongjoong gasped. "Don't say it like that! That makes me sound like a stalker."

"Maybe you are," Seonghwa smirked. But there was a flash of amusement across his eyes. He was teasing the alpha.

"Ah you" Hongjoong bumped his shoulder against the other. "Stop making fun of me."

"But it's too easy," Seonghwa burst out laughing.

Hongjoong chuckled softly, his gaze looking over the omega slowly. "Seonghwa'' he breathed out. He doesn't know what came over him. There wasn't even anything he needed to say. He just felt the impulse to say the omegas name.

Seonghwa immediately stopped laughing. "You know my name."

"Oh" Hongjoong felt his cheeks heat up slightly. "Yeah, uh San and Wooyoung spoke about you. So yeah. Seonghwa."

Nodding slightly Seonghwa let that settle around him. It was all right. He couldn't have Hongjoong calling him darling forever, or to only refer to him as an omega. He probably should've introduced himself by now anyways. But he couldn't resist a little teasing. "You shouldn't speak to me so improperly," Seonghwa stated.

"Would you prefer Seonghwa-ssi?" Hongjoong questioned, with a twitch to his nose of distaste.

"Hyung is fine," Seonghwa shrugged.

"And how do you know that you're older?" Hongjoong challenged.

"I act like it," Seonghwa stated obviously. "Plus you don't even look like you've stopped growing. You can't be older than me."

"I have a five year old" Hongjoong argued.

"And I have a three year old," Seonghwa added. "What does that matter?"

"My pup is older so I'm probably older" Hongjoong explained.

"Yeah?" Seonghwa questioned. "How old are you?"

"Twenty-two" Hongjoong answered.

"So am I" Seonghwa's smirk returned.

"Birthday?"

"April 3rd 1998" Seonghwa responded.

"Damn it" Hongjoong mumbled. "November 7th."

"I guess I'm your hyung now" Seonghwa poked at Hongjoong's side.

"I'm not calling you that" Hongjoong grumbled and leaned away.

"Aw, why not?" Seonghwa pouted.

"Cause we're the same age" Hongjoong huffed.

"Fine" Seonghwa relented. "We can be friends of the same age."

Hongjoong nibbled on his bottom lip. Same age friends. Were they actually friends though? They were neighbours for sure. They have had more than one deep conversation on this balcony. Hell, he had even met Seonghwa's eomma ten minutes ago. But did that make them friends?

So instead of answering, Hongjoong changed the subject.  "You realize your eomma is going to think I'm more than a friend right?"

Seonghwa released a deep groan. "I know. I tried to explain but he just wouldn't listen. I love my eomma, I really do. But he lives a very stereotypical lifestyle. He means well of course, although he thinks it would be best if an omega and alpha are together."

"It must've been hard when your bond broke" Hongjoong pointed out.

"He supported me of course," Seonghwa stated. "He hated my alpha and the way I was treated. After the bonding he encouraged me to go out and find a better alpha. One that will actually care for the pups and me. Apparently it was supposed to help me in some twisted way. Gosh he is constantly trying to set me up with the son of some friend."

"And now he sees a shirtless alpha come out onto your balcony after checking on the pups" Hongjoong barked out a laugh.

"This isn't funny!" Seonghwa whined. "He's seriously going to think that you're my alpha."

"I suppose it's a good thing I'm not" Hongjoong smirked, pushing himself up from his seat.

"He's expecting you at Chuseok!" Seonghwa argued.

"Sounds like a you problem" Hongjoong shrugged.

"Hongjoong" Seonghwa dramatically whined again.

Hongjoong smiled, pausing with his hand on the balcony door. "It's just temporary excitement. Let him relax a little and then next time he calls you can explain it. We are just neighbours after all."

Seonghwa sighed. "Yeah I know you're right." He glanced in Hongjoong's direction. "It just would've been easier to explain if you hadn't come outside without a shirt and your messy hair."

"Hmm why is that?" Hongjoong practically purred. "Does my appearance look a little too intimate?" he flashed the omega a wink.

"Hongjoong!" Seonghwa's face turned bright red.

Hongjoong burst out laughing. "It's okay, I know you like the way I look. Can't deny that I look attractive. And just for the record I'm okay with you looking." He tugged open the door. "Better go get those pups of mine and dressed and ready to go." He stepped through the door.

"Bye" Seonghwa forced the words out.

"Bye" Hongjoong stuck his head back out. "But seriously Seonghwa. Don't worry too much about what your eomma said. I really do mean what I said. Once he gets over the excitement he will be more willing to listen. Just try again in a couple days to explain."

"Yeah" Seonghwa nodded. "Thanks Hongjoong. See you later."

"See you later Seonghwa."

Hongjoong sat in the small clinical waiting room. Leaning back into his seat the alpha struggled with relaxing his mind. He found himself watching Junyoung as he played with a puzzle Hongjoong had brought in his bag. The alpha had long since learnt that the two boys needed constant entertainment- especially during long waits. In this case, the only one waiting was Junyoung. Youngseok had been back with the therapist for the past twenty minutes. The doctor had insisted on meeting with the pups separately, before the family came together. Junyoung had gone first, now it was Youngseok's turn.

With a small sigh, Hongjoong opened the magazine he had selected from the nearby stack. He hadn't checked what the topic of the reading material was, having grabbed at random. Opening the cover, Hongjoong began to read over the first page. It didn't take the alpha long to realize it was a collection of articles explaining the importance of an alpha having an omega. A piece of Hongjoong wanted to snap the book shut instantly, but part of him was intrigued.

Slowly, his gaze moved over the page. The first article listed the positives of having an omega for emotional support. It told about how an alpha needed an individual to rely on, as this was part of their nature. When an alpha faced moments of sadness or anger, an omega's pheromones were a key factor to providing easy happiness. An omega's scent offered a natural form of comfort. The scent was a way of building a connection between couples. Much against Hongjoong's distaste, his thoughts shifted to the bright oranges.

The more time Hongjoong spent within the omega's presence, the easier it became for him to notice the calmness of the scent.

Turning the page, Hongjoong came to the second article. This one specifically listed the positives of a mating between an alpha and an omega. It stated how, when an alpha and omega mated together, it connected their thoughts and feelings to an extent. An alpha would be able to sense if their omega is in distress, regardless of scent – hence knew from a distance if the omega needed them. Hongjoong had heard of stories where an alpha could be out of town and would come rushing home from sensing their mate needed them in some form.

The article continued on with explaining that a mating bond increased the probability of producing pups. It was with the bond that the wolves create that encourages a heavier heat or rut. Although pups are a possibility with any heat or rut – Hongjoong learnt the hard way. Furthermore, there had been proven evidence that giving birth was greatly assisted with a mate involved – although Hongjoong had no experience with this.

Hongjoong glanced towards Junyoung with a sad little smile. The boy was animatedly playing. The puzzle was quickly taking shape.

Mates were a long shot in Hongjoong's mind. One that might be nice to experience, he couldn't deny that his wolf's biological clock had started ticking faster for a mate since he became appa to the two pups. However, he recognized how difficult that was. Finding a mate wasn't as easy as people made it sound. There were certain expectations he needed to follow in terms of courting customs. He needed to find an omega, court them through the use of gifts, showcase that the alpha could care for them through food or finances or time, display that no only would they be a good alpha but appa as well.

There was so much to it, and it's not that Hongjoong wasn't willing to court somebody. There just wasn't any guarantee to it. The omega could refuse the courting, or begin courting only to back out just before mating. And what if they didn't leave before mating? They would mate and then break the bond.

Hongjoong luckily had never experienced a bond breaking – and he would never want to. He had heard horror stories of it during his high school health class. Breaking a bond was some of the worst pain anyone could ever experience. It was like getting shot simultaneously in the head and heart. Your bond is dying, and you know it.

Flipping the page, Hongjoong was surprised by the next article – although he should've suspected it would turn to a topic such as heats and sexual activities. The alpha blushed deeply. The page went into depth about what happened when an omega entered heat and how an alpha could best assist them. They would long for a release that could only truly be satisfied when they received an alpha's knot. It explained that although there were alternatives, there was very little that would compare to a fulfilling feeling of a knot in heat.

Of course, Hongjoong did have much experience on this topic. The alpha had let very few people – particularly omegas into his life, especially after becoming an appa. Whenever his rut hit, usually at unexpected times, Hongjoong choose to spend it alone. The days would blend together as he struggled with making it through. But not once did he cave. If he were going to spend a rut with an omega, it would be his mate, not a nameless, faceless omega. Maybe he was just old fashioned that way.

Reading further, Hongjoong's eyes only widened as the article took a turn to discuss sexual position. The magazine explained what position would be best for an omega to be in during heat, if he or she is trying to conceive pups – as it was likely to increase the chance. There was an explanation on how it would be best to get an alpha's knot in as deep as possible – followed shortly by how to increase the length of time the knot would stay prominent in the omega. The article went on to explain what positions felt good in specific ways. It listed if the omega wanted to feel it deep they should be lying in this certain form or if the omega wanted it pounding with speed how the alpha should position them.

Hongjoong was going to continue reading onwards, however the arrival of the receptionist forced Hongjoong to snap the magazine shut with embarrassed red cheeks. "Kim Hongjoong?" the female spoke warmly as she glanced around the room. Hongjoong stuffed the magazine back into its rack before pushing himself out of his seat. Hopefully nobody noticed what he was reading at the time.

"Here" Hongjoong raised his hand in a wave towards the nurse. He moved towards the pups. "Okay Junyoung, let's go check in with the doctor and Youngseok," he stated. The pup protested with a whine as the appa began to pack the puzzle away. "You can do another puzzle at home, I promise" Hongjoong spoke softly. He placed the toys into his large black fake leather bound shoulder bag – one that he typically used to carry his laptop and sketchbook around. Taking hold of the pups' hand, Hongjoong went towards the women.

"Hello there," the receptionist smiled "I'll lead you back to the office." She cheerfully began to tread down the hall nearly in a skip, guiding them to the far back. Hongjoong followed silently with the pup in tow. He thanked her once they reached the room – where he found Youngseok waiting on the leather bound couch. His alpha growled at the way the doctor was willing to leave his pup alone, even if it was only for a moment.

"Up you go" Hongjoong beamed as he lifted Junyoung onto the couch beside his brother. Hongjoong was thankful the clinic appeared to be child friendly. The room was painted a soft yellow with lime green accents. On the table where the computer was located, there were containers of stickers and lollipops. "So how were things with the doctor? Did they seem nice?"

Youngseok looked at his appa apprehensively. The pup lifted his hand to his mouth and began to suck on the thumb. This was a behaviour that Hongjoong had been trying to discourage – however today he figured he'd let it slide.

"It's going to be fine" Hongjoong reassured softly. Leaning forward he planted a soft kiss on each of the boy's foreheads. "Doctor Choi was nice to you when you were playing with him right?" Hongjoong had met with the therapist briefly before he had sent Junyoung back to play with the adult.

Both Junyoung and Youngseok gave a small nod. "We played blocks," Youngseok explained in a soft tone.

Hongjoong smiled lightly. "And you like blocks puppy" Hongjoong reached forward and stroked his cheek with the back of his hand. "So why do you look so sad?"

Youngseok and Junyoung shared a look.

"Do we need shots?" Junyoung asked with eyes filled with worry.

Hongjoong released a small chuckle. His pups were just so adorable in his eyes. "No shots. This isn't that type of doctor." Playfully Hongjoong poked both their bellies – earning slight giggles from the two boys. "Are you two eating well?" Hongjoong gave the pups another tickle to the tummy.

Both boys burst out laughing as their appa began to tickle them. They wiggled slightly, struggling to get free from the tickle monster. "Yes appa!" They cheered together around the laughter.

"Hmm" Hongjoong tilted his head curiously to the side "I don't know about that. Someone left a lot of chicken on their plate last night" the appa teased.

"I was full!" Youngseok giggled.

"Filled with rice!" Hongjoong laughed. Stepping forward, he pulled the two giggling pups into a warm hug. He loved moments like this with his children. Times when he could let go and relax. He wanted to spend time having some fun with his puppies.

The door to the room slid open, a little older than middle-aged alpha with greying hair standing in the doorway. Clearing his throat, the man caught the attention of the omega. "I can come back if you are not yet ready" the doctor stated.

"We are ready," Hongjoong answered quickly. Another slight blush was forming as he stepped slightly away from the pups to address the doctor. "Nice to see you again Dr. Choi"

"Likewise Mr. Kim" the man nodded in introduction. He moved deeper into the room and took a seat by his computer. Glancing around the room, the man frowned slightly. "Wouldn't you prefer we wait for your omega to arrive? I know they weren't here with you at the start of the appointment. I assumed they were running late."

Sheepishly, Hongjoong nibbled on his bottom lip. Although the alpha was generally very proud of himself as an individual – and a single appa – there were moments where he became nervous to admit his unmated status. He recognized the stigma omegas received as an unmated parent. They were a whore that couldn't keep their legs closed. Alphas however were accused of being unable to keep a mate that they failed in supporting their omega so naturally they will fail their child. Hongjoong also knew what omegas thought. Omegas assumed alphas walked away the hero, but that was far from the case. "I uh" Hongjoong shifted on his heels slightly "I don't have one. It's just me."

The doctor nodded slightly. Turning towards his computer, he began to type quickly. Hongjoong could only assume he was making a note of Hongjoong's lack of omega. "Alright, so I have already met with both pups and have had a chance to get to know them. But first I'd like to hear from you Mr. Kim what the problem is' ' the doctor stated, turning the chair back in Kim's direction.

"My son, Youngseok," Hongjoong nodded in Youngseok's direction to indicate which pup he was talking about. "Has been struggling lately in terms of emotional distress and self regulation. He often has nightmares that will awaken him and it's a struggle to calm him down."

"What appears to be successful in regards to returning to bed?" Dr. Choi stood and moved towards the pups with a smile. "Hello there, Youngseok" he gave a little wave.

Hongjoong gave the doctor a few moments of silence before he decided to provide an answer "A strong scenting has proven to be successful, as has he sharing my bed with me, but time has been the best solution. When he calms down it becomes easier." A small blush began to creep up on Hongjoong's cheek. This was a doctor – a medical professional. Hongjoong shouldn't feel ashamed but he couldn't fight the feeling that he had done something wrong with his actions.

The doctor gave another nod as he stepped back from the pups on the table. Hongjoong watched slightly in confusion. Was that it? That took about two seconds of the doctor's time. Maybe Hongjoong had chosen the wrong doctor; it didn't appear like he gave much consideration.

Moving towards his desk, Choi took a seat. "I'd like to hear more about yourself and your family dynamics before I move forward with any other discussion. As you know I've spent some time with both Youngseok and Junyoung. I found both to be very bright and lovely pups. I simply want to hear more details from your side."

Hongjoong's eyes widened. His back tensed as he forced himself to stand tall. The wording of the doctor instantly made the alpha feel very threatened. It felt like something that'll be followed by an insult. "What would you like to know?"

"First I would like the information regarding their omega parent" the doctor asked gently. "You stated you do not have one. Has the pups' omega ever been involved in their lives?"

Hongjoong should've known before he had arrived that a doctor would likely ask this question. The blueberry was well used to the looks of curiosity that he received. There were often questions regarding why he wasn't mated or if his mate had passed away. "She was" Hongjoong answered in a small weak sounding voice. He nervously looked down at the floor, fiddling slightly with his fingers. "Primarily with Junyoung. She hadn't been around much since Youngseok's birth unfortunately... and she passed away a couple years ago." There was more to the story, it was obvious. But Hongjoong was not willing to discuss it.

Nodding slightly, the doctor wrote down what Hongjoong stated. Glancing back at the alpha the doctor asked, "Have the pups had an omega figure for guidance in their lives since then?"

"We moved here recently from Anyang" Hongjoong answered, letting his thoughts drift to that of his family. "They were very close with my eomma. She was their primary omega."

"And what about currently? Since you've moved to Seoul?" Dr. Choi asked softly. He glanced slightly towards the pups that were busy entertaining themselves with the leather bound pillows. "I understand they had an omega previously, but do they have that stability now?"

"Uh well" Hongjoong frowned slightly. "Not particularly. I've never been close with any omega, and that's only become more prominent since we moved. I have a few friends within the city, but they're all alphas and betas." the doctor leaned back into his chair in a relaxed manner, taking in the explanation. It gave the impression that he had long since come to a conclusion. "I rely a lot on the help from them – they've become family to us. And they are always readily available if needed. We make our schedules work."

Pushing himself into an upright position the doctor began to explain. "From my observations, there is nothing medically wrong with Youngseok – or Junyoung. It is likely that he is instead facing difficulties within his mental and emotional state due to the lack of an omega influence."

"Lack of an omega influence?" Hongjoong frowned slightly.

"I have seen it happen a few times before. Youngseok and Junyoung are pups; they need a well-developed balance. Omegas and alphas have been proven to be the strongest bonded in terms of mating. They have the greatest chance of reproducing and successful upbringing" the doctor explained gently.

"I'm sorry" Hongjoong gave his head a small shake. "I still don't think I understand."

"Omegas and alphas balance each other out," the doctor continued. "They each bring forth what the others lack. An alpha has a tough sense of behaviour; they are recognized as the stronger individual in terms of discipline and actions. Whereas the omega is softer, offers a sweeter and warmer environment."

"Are you trying to say I'm too tough on my pups?" Hongjoong accused, feeling his emotions spike. He couldn't parent his pups to the fullest extent because he was an alpha? They couldn't trust him to welcome them? What kind of bullshit is this?

"No, of course not," Dr. Choi shook his head. "I apologize if you thought that's what I was implying. Scents can play another big role. Omega scents are often sweeter or citrusy, whereas alphas are woodsy. Internally, even as puppies, we recognize the want for both. Although their wolf isn't fully developed, they do still have one. It's the wolf's way of calling out for a scent it knows is missing."

Hongjoong nodded slowly in understanding. He might not completely comprehend what the doctor was saying, but he knew enough.

"It's likely more noticeable to your pups because they have been exposed to an omega involvement" Dr. Choi stated. "From having lost their eomma and now their halmoni. These are two omegas that were originally set to guide them. The lack of time spent with them now is sure to be an adjustment."

"I suppose that makes sense," Hongjoong stated in agreement.

"Youngseok is probably calling out for this missing piece the only way he knows how" Dr. Choi spoke softly. "His shift with a distress scent, is likely a way of attracting an omega. Omegas have a naturally built in maternal instinct. They will sense his discomfort and come to his aid."

Hongjoong's thoughts began to drift to that of Seonghwa. He was the omega they would've been exposed to most – even just in terms of scents. Would that explain why Seonghwa was so concerned about Youngseok and his doctor's appointment this morning? His internal omega was responding to the scents Youngseok was releasing? It could also be the reasoning behind the developing friendship with Sumin and Minjae. Naturally those two pups would be carrying their eomma's scent – perhaps it could be smelt from them. Not to mention that time Youngseok immediately fell asleep after hearing Seonghwa's singing through the walls.

"Why hasn't Junyoung begun behaving similarly?" Hongjoong wondered. If the reasoning was a lack of omega exposure then why Junyoung wasn't experiencing the same level of anxiety or stress the way Youngseok often did. Youngseok would come to Hongjoong's room crying in search of comfort or express his emotions through nightmares. Junyoung was more mature and relied on his own strength.

"It's likely due to his age" the doctor shrugged a little as though he did not know the answer to the question. "You said that their eomma was around more during Junyoung's infancy. It is likely he has strong emotional foundations created with his eomma. He can self regulate to an extent." When Hongjoong furrowed his eyebrows in confusion the doctor lightly explained, "you stated that Youngseok would search you out when he is experiencing these nightmares. It is possible that your other son shares similar fears but does not come readily forward."

Hongjoong paused for a moment and allowed him to consider what the doctor had stated. Perhaps he had been a missing out on sign that Junyoung hadn't been that well either. They had likely not been easy to notice – but Hongjoong was their appa. When Youngseok would come to Hongjoong looking for comfort, Junyoung was often shortly behind – but Hongjoong had brushed it off as Junyoung checking on his little brother. Maybe Junyoung needed the comfort just as much as Youngseok. It was similar to sleeping in Hongjoong's bed. Although Junyoung would never outright ask, he was always extremely willing when Hongjoong offered.

"What can I do?" Hongjoong asked softly. "How do I help my pups be happier?" Hongjoong was the type of appa that would get things done. If his pups needed him to do something, he would do whatever it takes to help them.

The doctor pushed some hair out of his face as he answered in a way that made it sound like it should've been obvious. "The pups will need to spend some time with an omega. They likely need bonding. Get a feeling of what it means to be in an omega's presence again. An omega that they feel they can trust and receive guidance from. Eventually, if either presents as an omega, they will need one to teach them proper behaviour – it's best that these bonds are developed young.  Any omega would do, of course. You stated you have some friends. That'll work fine, if you have one that's omega. Or you can look into placing them in a preschool with omega staffing. A couple of times a week, to interact with an adult omega. I am certain that will greatly improve their current and future behaviour."

Hongjoong didn't particularly like the way the doctor had worded 'current and future behaviour.' That made it sound like there was something misbehaving about his pups. They are just children and don't deserve to be judged so harshly – especially on things that are out of their control. "That's all it'll take for them to feel better?"

"It should be, yes." the doctor gave a firm nod. "If you do not see an improvement after three months, please feel free to return. We can arrange for regular counselling should they require it. However, an omega in yours and the pups' life will likely assist with any trouble any of you are facing."

Hongjoong answered with a nod of his head. He wasn't very impressed – the doctor appeared to be more of a mate pusher than having a focus on actual medical assistance. "I will be sure to return if I find the pups continuing to struggle," Hongjoong insisted. He lifted the pups off the couch before taking their hands happily. "Let's go home, Youngie, Junnie."

Choi smiled slightly "You can come by if you ever need anything. Don't hesitate to make an appointment."

Holding the boys' hands, Hongjoong led them out of the doctor's office and into the busy streets of Seoul. With college having recently been let out for the day, the community streets had only grown in popularity – students wanting to return home for the evening. Hongjoong gave the pups' hands a small squeeze. Smiling slightly, he led them through the crowds.

Thankfully, Hongjoong's walk to the neighbourhood of Daehakro wasn't very far. He knew the location was often referred to as a college town. Hongjoong wasn't the biggest fan of being surrounded by students – however it allowed the cost of his apartment to be cheaper.

Side stepping around a rushing male beta, Hongjoong felt the need to hold the pups tighter – fearful that he might lose them in the streets. With autumn only just dawning, Hongjoong would've hoped for some cooler weather – however September was unseasonably warm this year.

"Appa," Junyoung tugged on Hongjoong's hand. Glancing down, Hongjoong found the pup pointing in the direction of a small ice cream stand tucked away. "Melona!" Junnie stated, watching the stand with wide eyes.

Hongjoong smiled, his puppies had been so good at the appointment today. How could he deny them the sweet treat?

"Can I get two melona?" Hongjoong ordered. The green, honeydew flavoured treat had become fairly popular over the years – it was essentially ice cream on a stick. The pups loved it. Removing some cash, he let go of the pups' hands momentarily, to pay for the ice cream – and accept the packages. It was at that moment that something caught Youngseok's eye.

"Minnie!" Youngseok cheered. The pup broke free from Hongjoong's side and ran as fast as his little legs could carry him through the crowd. Although Hongjoong was quick, he hadn't been quick enough. The pup had disappeared between the parting legs of pedestrians.

"Kim Youngseok!" Hongjoong shouted. Swiftly Hongjoong lifted Junyoung into his arms. The appa began weaving through the crowd – although it wasn't an easy feat. The male's heart was racing as he lost sight of his little boy. Junyoung only held on tighter as he too looked around nervously. "Youngseok!" Hongjoong cried out again. Spinning slightly where he stood.

How could Hongjoong lose his child? What was he ever thinking of letting the pup go? He should've held onto him tighter. Hongjoong had already failed enough for today. He can't even provide his puppies with a strong and positive omega influence in their lives. His pup has nightmares because of his lack of ability in keeping an omega around.

All the alpha had wanted to do was treat the pups to ice cream. They had both done so well at the doctor's office today. Hongjoong had been so proud to see them both remain calm. He had been expecting them to cry and beg to go home. But Youngseok and Junyoung had been so brave. Not to mention the way Junnie offered his little brother comfort all throughout the appointment, which warmed Hongjoong's heart.

It was the one positive aspect of the day. Although Hongjoong might feel inadequate about his lack of an omega – seeing the two boys had reassured him about one thing. He was raising the pups to be positive and supportive of each other. That is all any appa could ever really hope for in regards to teaching behaviour.

However, now he lost his child somewhere in the busy streets of Seoul. The alpha had done everything right. Hongjoong had them both directly at his side. They knew better than to run off unattended – Hongjoong had always instilled that. He had only let go of Youngseok's hand for a moment. Hongjoong hadn't even heard what Youngseok cheered as he ran off. What could've caught Youngseok's attention that was so important?

"Kim Youngseok!" Hongjoong screamed out in desperation again. Tears were quickly forming in his eyes. He knew his pheromones were skyrocketing as others turned to glance at him. Although many looked, no one offered him any form of assistance. He was an alpha; he could handle whatever was happening.

"Jesus" a deep voice said from behind Hongjoong. "Would you stop yelling?"

Hongjoong's back was tense. He had suspected it was an alpha wolf that was being annoyed by Hongjoong's supposed scene. With the large crowds, Hongjoong couldn't pinpoint any specific scent. But regardless of the speaker's sub gender, no one was allowed to talk to him that way.

"Who the hell do you think you-" Hongjoong spun with force – intending to make his stance clear. However, he relented when he noticed who the other wolf was. "Oh, it's you."

"Seems we are always running into each other," the male with light hair answered. Much to Hongjoong's disapproval, a smile was plastered on his lips.

"Youngseok" Hongjoong whimpered as he let out a sigh of relief.

Resting on the omega's broad hipbone was the runaway pup. Youngseok had wrapped his little arms around the omega's neck and smiled as though he had done nothing wrong. The pup was nearly snuggling into the omega. And Seonghwa seemed perfectly okay with the action.

Seonghwa's own pups were attached to his legs, holding onto the fabric of his pants. Sumin seemed happy to see the alpha, as he gave a small wave – one that Hongjoong unfortunately missed.

"Oh, Youngseok," Hongjoong stated, setting Junyoung on his feet. He reached out and took his pup from the omega. "What were you thinking, Kim Youngseok? How dare you run off like that! I taught you better than that! You can never go anywhere without appa knowing it."

"But appa '' Youngseok whined. The alpha had leaned into his son's neck and was giving him a strong scenting. It was likely more to comfort Hongjoong than the pup himself. "I saw Minjae." Youngseok stated it as though it was the most obvious thought ever. "And Sumin was with him!"

"I see that" Hongjoong hugged his pup closer. "But you still can't go running off like that. That's not okay, Youngseok. I was so scared and worried."

"Hey, relax a little, '' Seonghwa said gently. This had only received a glare from the alpha. How dare Seonghwa tell Hongjoong how he can feel or what he should do! He just thought he had just lost his pup. "You're scaring the puppies' ' Seonghwa rationalized in a low voice. "And people are starting to get nervous. They can sense an upset alpha." He reached up and rubbed at his nose slightly.

Much to Hongjoong's dismay, the alpha was right. Hongjoong had very little control over his pheromones at the moment and his high emotions were upsetting Youngseok. The pup was latched tightly onto Hongjoong's neck and was nearly whimpering. Glancing down he noticed that Sumin had begun nervously sucking his thumb and Minjae was practically hiding behind Seonghwa. "Oh, Youngseok..." Hongjoong sighed softly. Lifting his hand, he began stroking the boy's soft waves. "Appa is sorry. I didn't mean to upset you, but I was scared. I don't want you hurt."

"I'm not hurt," Youngseok answered in a broken sounding voice.

"I know that now," Hongjoong replied. Leaning forward he planted a gentle kiss on the boy's cheek. "But I didn't before. I can't lose you." He snuggled the boy closer and took in the scent of vanilla.

Seonghwa reached down and lifted Sumin into his arms, kissing his temple lightly to ensure the pup was fine. His free hand rested on Minjae's head. Occasionally he'd gaze down at Junyoung to ensure the pup was still present and had no intentions of running off as well.

"Eomma found me," Youngseok stated to his appa. Leaning back slightly the pup looked towards the omega with a beaming smile. He pointed in Seonghwa's direction to make an indication of whom he was speaking with.

Seonghwa's eyes widened, his jaw falling slack slightly. There was an unidentified spike to his scent. The pup must just be confused. Feeling desperate in the moment because of all the pheromones running wild. His gaze shot towards Hongjoong. "I don't know..."

Hongjoong frowned slightly but waved the concern away. "Youngie, you know that's not your eomma" he spoke gently, rubbing the back of the pup's head.

"But he's Minnie and Su-Su's eomma" Youngseok's eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"That's right" Hongjoong nodded, "but that doesn't make him yours. You would need to be brothers with Minnie and Su-Su for Seonghwa to be your eomma." He adjusted Youngseok in his arms so he got a clear look at the omega. "This is Seonghwa? Can you say Seonghwa?"

"H-Hwa is fine," Seonghwa insisted, nibbling on his bottom lip. Why was there a tug at his heart when Youngseok called him eomma? Why did he like it? Was this his internalized omegas way of saying it wanted more pups?

"Can you say Hwa?" Hongjoong coached his pup.

Youngseok pouted, but with one look of warning from his appa he released a deep sigh. "Hwa."

"That's not so hard" Hongjoong praised. "So Hwa found you?"

Chuckling lightly, although obviously awkwardly, Seonghwa smiled softly in the alpha's direction. "More like the pup found me." Absentmindedly he knelt down and lifted a couple shopping bags up. The omega had been walking home from the mall with his own little ones only to be surprised as a pup came running towards him. Seonghwa had been greatly unprepared as the pup launched himself into an embrace. He had barely had enough time to catch him. Although Seonghwa accepted the child's embrace, he had to focus on searching for the appa. When the omega couldn't spot the younger male, he knew the child had run off and the appa needed to be tracked down.

Hongjoong glanced towards the alpha. He was having an internal battle within himself. In part, he put the blame of his pup running away on the omega, although he did realize how irrational that was of him. It wasn't as though Seonghwa had called out for the pup. But rather had been minding his own business walking down the street. Still, had Youngseok not recognized – or known – Seonghwa, then he never would've run off. The second part of the omega realized that Seonghwa had helped the pup. He didn't brush the child aside like other people on the street might have. The omega accepted the pup and worked on returning Youngseok to Hongjoong.

That doesn't mean Hongjoong was pleased with the omega having one more thing to judge him for in terms of parenting.

"Well thank you" Hongjoong said. "For keeping him safe until I could track you down."

"No problem," Seonghwa nodded. An awkward silence fell across the two. Their four pups simply looked between each other, before Junyoung shrugged and started a conversation. Seonghwa nibbled his lip and awkwardly said, "You look pretty."

"I what?" Hongjoong's eyes widened. Was his pheromones so heightened that he had driven the omega insane?

"You're outfit" Seonghwa pointed to the pair of light washed jeans and painted white daisies on them, and the matching knitting yellow sweater. "It's pretty. It suits you."

"It suits me? In what way?" Hongjoong asked curiously.

"Feminine" Seonghwa answered.

"Excuse me?" Hongjoong frowned slightly. "Did you just call me girly?" What kind of backhanded insult was that?

"What?" Seonghwa frowned slightly again. "I didn't call you girly. I said that your outfit is feminine. That isn't a bad thing. I meant it as a compliment. It matches your personality. Soft – similar to you. Plus I think it's amazing the way an alpha can dress that way. I wish I could break free from the gender norms like you do."

"I'm soft?" Hongjoong couldn't help but laugh at Seonghwa saying those words to him. Out of all the words Hongjoong had suspected Seonghwa would use to describe him, "soft" was not one of them. "And you can break free from those gender norms. I can help style some amazing outfits for you."

"Oh, well, yeah" Seonghwa mumbled. He glanced downwards and shifted his footing slightly. As though he was embarrassed. "I mean sometimes you are. But the outfits... I don't know. Omegas are supposed to wear soft clothing, it presents us as submissive." Didn't they just have this conversation this morning? If Seonghwa could stand by his pup wearing whatever he wanted, why couldn't he support himself the same way?

"No," Hongjoong said sternly. His guard had gone back up and it was easy to tell by his tense body language. "I don't believe in submitting to an alpha's every will. Omegas should not do that. And clothing should not define it."

Seonghwa was going to respond, however, one of the pups interrupted him. "Appa'' Junyoung tugged on the omega's jeans. "Melona." The pup pointed to Hongjoong's hand, where two packs of green melona were melting.

"Oh gosh" Hongjoong mumbled. He set Youngseok back on his feet before lifting the packed ice cream treats up. With a small frown he patted the packs shaking his head. "I'm a sorry pup. The ice cream melted."

"Hey wait" Seonghwa launched forward and grabbed Hongjoong's wrist. "Don't throw them away. They are still packaged. Take them home and put them in Tupperware. You can refreeze it, and then scoop it out like regular ice cream.

Hongjoong raised an eyebrow slightly "and you know that'll work because...?"

Seonghwa gave a small shrug "I've had my fair share of melted popsicles." he nodded towards his own pups. "Sometimes we are forgetful."

Nodding slightly, Hongjoong kept the soggy packets in his hand. "We will have the ice cream for dessert at home." Hongjoong smiled lovingly at the pups.

"Are you on your way home?" Seonghwa asked, his voice held a hint of awkwardness and he couldn't maintain eye contact.

"Ah, yeah." Hongjoong nodded. Glancing over his shoulder he could note he was still a few blocks away from his apartment building.

"I'll walk with you," Seonghwa stated. He hadn't phrased it as a question. He had rather made it a fact that he would be making his way home with the alpha. He didn't wait for a response from the alpha as he began moving forward. Eagerly, Youngseok attached himself to Minjae's side and started chatting – forcing Hongjoong to come along as well, with Junyoung in tow.

"What's in the bag?" Hongjoong asked once they caught up together. Sliding the ice cream treats into his over-the-shoulder bag, freeing his hands. Sumin saw the opportunity and walked up beside the alpha. His little hand slid up into Hongjoong's. "Oh?" Hongjoong glanced down. "Want to hold my hand? Okay puppy. Just make sure I don't get lost!"

"Hmm?" Seonghwa glanced at the alpha, confused. Despite having offered to walk together, he likely hadn't expected Hongjoong to speak to him. "Ah, the pups and I went shopping today," Seonghwa answered with a small shrug. "It's one of the rare days I got off work."

"What do you do for work?" Hongjoong questioned.

"A little of everything, but unfortunately nothing permanent. I work at a coffee shop with Wooyoung and San; I do some babysitting whenever I have time. And I'm a server at this really fancy restaurant with privileged alpha customers. Which has been a pain in my ass, but it pays the best."

"What did you go to school for?" Hongjoong asked curiously, glancing sideways quickly.

"I was attending the performing arts," Seonghwa answered simply. "Specifically acting."

"Acting?" Hongjoong questioned.

Seonghwa nodded slightly. He gave the alpha a far away dazed look. "I used to dream of being an actor in k-dramas." That was the end of the discussion as far as the omega appeared to be concerned about. His attention had turned elsewhere.

"Hwa" Youngseok spoke, pausing on his walk. "Up." He held his little arms in the direction of the omega.

Hongjoong's eyes widened and he held back a gasp. Youngseok would rather have Seonghwa – nearly a complete stranger – carrying him home than his own appa? Well Hongjoong was currently holding Sumin's hand... but he could carry Youngseok at the same time.

Seonghwa glanced at Hongjoong with helpless and confused eyes. "It's alright," assured the alpha. The elder lowered himself to the ground for a moment. However, rather than lifting the boy onto his hip the way Hongjoong would've, Seonghwa set the pup on his strong broad shoulders.

Youngseok released a high-pitched gasp followed by a happy giggle. He held on tightly to Seonghwa's neck as the omega moved to a standing position. "Appa!" Youngseok cheered, releasing the alpha's neck. "I'm tall!"

"Hey you're tall when I carry you on my shoulders" Hongjoong insisted.

"Hwa is taller," Youngseok answered.

Hongjoong rolled his eyes. Yes, that sounds like his pup. He glanced quickly at Seonghwa. "Please don't drop him."

"I won't" Seonghwa reassured the alpha. "But you need to hold on tight if you want a ride, Youngseok." he started tapping Youngseok on the knee to get his attention. "Hold onto my neck. Or else I'll put you down."

"Okay" Youngseok pouted slightly, but nonetheless he grabbed onto the omega's neck. His face brightened as the elder began walking forward. Gazing from side to side he watched the world around him.

They continued walking for a couple minutes with a content silence between them. Junyoung had been skipping ahead holding onto Minjae's hand. Hongjoong smiled. At least he knew he was raising Junyoung to be a good hyung.

"Okay" Seonghwa stopped walking, still halfway from the apartment. He bent to the ground and slid Youngseok off his shoulders. "Junyoung's turn."

"My turn?" Junyoung glanced at Seonghwa with confusion.

Hongjoong looked at the omega curiously. Youngseok had been the one to ask for a ride. Not Junyoung. Of course, Hongjoong had known over the years that he needed to balance his time with the pups. There were moments where he needed to switch from carrying Youngseok to Junyoung, or vice versa. Being a single parent taught you fairly quickly to share. Hongjoong knew Seonghwa was a parent as well, but the fact he showed that same care towards Hongjoong's pups surprised him.

Seonghwa gave a firm nod. "Youngseok got his turn for half the walk. Now it's your turn." He shifted his footing so he was turned slightly towards the pup. "Unless you don't want to. You can say no."

Junyoung glanced up at his appa trying to decide if it was okay or not. Hongjoong mustered up a warm smile and nodded slightly. If his son wanted the piggyback ride, of course he could take the offer. Junyoung was usually the braver of the two pups. He was often bold and would take the first steps. Jun was the one who would protect Youngseok or make new friends in the park. In summary, he was every inch the elder brother.

However, in this incident, Junyoung was the hesitant one. He lacked the confidence in stepping forward towards the omega. Hongjoong had never seen the pup so shy. But he had also never really seen the pup with many omegas.

Slowly, Junyoung gave a small nod and moved towards Seonghwa. He accepted the omega's help in lifting him onto his shoulders. Jun was far more careful than Youngseok. Quickly he latched his hands around the omega's neck and held on tightly.

Hongjoong flashed Junnie a wink as a small hope to encourage him. Keeping his eye on Minjae and Youngseok he watched the two walk together. If anyone looked their way, they'd see an omega, walking side by side with his alpha and their four young pups. It was as though they were mates with their own children.

"How did the doctor's appointment for Youngseok go?" Seonghwa asked as they walked.

Hongjoong released a low groan. "The doctor believes that it is due to the pups lack of omega influence."

"Excuse me?" Seonghwa straightened his back and glared slightly. "What? Because you're a single alpha?"

"Yup" Hongjoong nodded slightly. "He explained that the pups are likely missing having omegas in their lives."

Seonghwa rolled his eyes unimpressed with that. In part he could understand the reasoning, pups benefited from both an alpha and omega influence. But it certainly wasn't the only option. "So what can you do about the pups?" Seonghwa asked, siding stepping around another walker. "How do you help them feel better?"

"It was suggested that Youngseok and Junyoung spend more time with an omega," Hongjoong answered with ease. It was an easy enough question to answer. However it wasn't easy to solve. Hongjoong didn't have many omega options.

"An omega?" Seonghwa raised an eyebrow. "You just need to find an omega? Ask somebody to hang out with the pups?"

"I don't know" Hongjoong sighed slightly with a shake of his head. "I don't have anyone to ask. Most of my friends are alpha and beta." Hongjoong glanced over at Seonghwa.

Seonghwa was an omega. And an eomma on top of that. It would make things a little easier – at least in the sense that Seonghwa would know how to interact with pups. Plus it would give the pups a chance to get to know each other better.

Was Hongjoong actually considering asking his stuck up neighbour with an attitude problem for help? Yeah, not a chance in hell. In fact they had maybe been getting too close lately. Hongjoong might need to take a step back.

However the thought was now in the back of his mind.

"I could always..." Seonghwa started to say but trailed off once he saw the look on Hongjoong's face. "Ah, never mind."

Hongjoong frowned slightly, "what is it?"

"Just a silly thought," Seonghwa said, shaking his head slightly. "Nothing you would agree to. I just thought I might be of help."

Was Seonghwa about to offer his assistance? It kind of sounded like he was going to. Maybe Seonghwa wasn't so bad after all. If the omega was willing to help him, Hongjoong should accept that. Perhaps this can give Hongjoong the motivation to ask the omega for help.

Hongjoong smiled softly, his gaze meeting with Seonghwa. "I don't think it's a silly idea at all.'' Even though the omega never actually voiced the idea Hongjoong could easily figure out the direction Seonghwa was going.

"Really?" Seonghwa's eyes widened slightly, his eyes glanced over Hongjoong with Sumin still in his arms.

"If you're willing," Hongjoong started with a shrug. Unable to maintain eye contact he looked over towards Youngseok and Minjae walking hand in hand. "I would really appreciate it."

"Yeah?" Seonghwa questioned, his lips pulling into a bright smile.

"Yeah" Hongjoong agreed.
