[Greek District. 12:34pm]
Tilted trees and leaves rustled upon November's breeze. No pedestrian could fantasize a warmer day in such a partly cloudy day, as sunlight teared through fluffs of clouds. It was a whimsical day for a stroll in Detroit's Capitol Park.
(Y/n)(L/n) crossed the road; civilians passed by as green traffic-light shone on the crosswalk. The female was just on her way to the park from work - she reported yesterday's interrogation and her shift for today was over. The entrance of the Park was open wide and visible in front of her, but a voice calling from behind took (Y/n) by surprise: "Dr.(L/n)!"
It was none other than RK800 - Connor, catching up to (Y/n) just barely before the crosswalk light turned red. "Connor...? What're you doing here?"
"I've been looking for you at the station, but the staff told me your shift for today was already over."
"Yeah, I just clocked out of my workstation... how did you find me?"
"Your co-workers said that you left the department not so long ago, so I tried to hurry and find you," - Connor rushed to (Y/n)'s side, an umbrella in his hands. "If you don't mind, I wished to talk with you."
The female looked at the android, stunned. It seemed he was running all that way after her, yet he wasn't perturbed nor out of breath. Glancing down at the umbrella that Connor brought, (Y/n) turned around to gaze up at the sky - sunbeams poured through narrow openings of dull clouds as it outlined their fringes. And yet, A refreshing aroma of rain was getting closer - perhaps it shall rain soon.
"...Well," (L/n) smiled "I was just about to take a walk in the park."
[Detroit Capitol Park. 12:41pm]
The two kept walking in silence, taking in the beautiful sound of birds chirping within the park. Connor made sure to stroll close by (L/n), as he finally got the chance to properly view her - a young lady with relaxed features, her (hair-color) locks neatly brushed and her attire ironed. Her looks made her look more professional, yet simple; Connor guessed, that Miss (L/n) really cared about taking care of herself. He decided to break the silence first :
"I believe our first encounter of getting to know each other wasn't contented yesterday. Since we had an immediate case that night, I never got the chance to thank you for giving me the access to work with you, despite Lt. Anderson's disagreement. His instructions contradict my orders."
"Oh, you about Hank?" - (Y/n) scoffed slightly, shaking her head "Don't mind him, he's always like that. You'll get used to his grumpy and 'uncooperative' attitude. But trust me, deep inside he's a softy."
Connor took notice of (Y/n) sarcasm whenever she spoke about Hank's behavior - "If you don't mind me asking, you've known Lt. Anderson for almost a year, is it true?"
"Yeah... you read every file on me already, didn't you?"
"I... apologize if it makes you uncomfortable. It is in my program to-" - The Android began to apologize. He knew every public information about Dr.(L/n), and it helped him to understand who she was as a person - after all, it was important for him to know who's he working with.
"Y'know what, it's all right. You're a prototype made specifically for crime investigation - it is your job to maintain as much information around you as possible." - Connor didn't expect from the lady to brush it off so easily, but he guessed it wasn't her first time dealing with such matter. He let her continue :
"I was transferred to the police department after I finished my advanced training to work in crime scenes. Cyberlife is very protective of its merchandise, and they won't dare to have a negative public opinion. So a year ago... they assigned me. To cases involving Androids only."
(Y/n)'s once welcoming and warm smile slowly faded away as she spoke about her situation. Whether it was her mind drifting off into memory, or just the consideration of talking about work - Connor realized her eyes were slightly narrowed.
"Since most of them were homicides, Anderson was pretty much involved in all of them, although it wasn't his choice. He was very bad-tempered, disagreeing with everything... But luckily we managed to get through that! He has his reasons for his grumpiness."
And as (Y/n)'s speech came to an end, raindrops started to slowly fall down into the pavement.
A wave of silence washed between the two. Connor Looked up at the shining drops of water, before lifting up the umbrella above Dr.(L/n)'s figure. They kept walking, seemingly nowhere; but the Android kept his mouth 'oh-shaped' all along, registering what (Y/n) told him - No wonder she took her job so seriously. For a moment, Connor recalled Dr.(L/n)'s reaction when she first saw him - her face held certain disappointment and hesitation. He wondered why...
"A lot of people don't appreciate having Androids around. When I first introduced myself to you yesterday, you seemed... displeased. I was wondering, is there any particular reason you might despise me."
"Wha-? No no, I don't despite Androids - especially not ones I work with. I was... to say the least, surprised." Miss(L/n) spoke carefully, trying to explain herself correctly. "I don't dislike you, Connor. I thought Cyberlife trusted me enough to let me work alone on these homicide cases involving Androids... But apparently not."
"Crime investigation can be dangerous. For example, when you found the deviant hiding in the attic yesterday - he could've held a weapon." Connor kept his hazel brown eyes focused on her, defending his motives. "He could've attacked you, Dr.(L/n). Deviants can be out of control, so we can't always predict their outcomes. Hence I was sent to aid you and keep you safe during your investigations."
Now facing the RK800, it seemed as if (Y/n) wanted to disagree with him, but instead, she kept her jaw tight. Connor was right; if their investigation might come to horrible accidents - then (Y/n) is helpless. Combat and physical strength wasn't her best trait. "Yes, um, perhaps... But I'll try my best to keep my actions as low as possible. Maybe we can't predict how a deviant can attack - but fighting fire with fire will only doom our mission."
"Indeed. You kept your calm when facing the deviant yesterday. I must hand it to you, Dr.(L/n) - your sense of calmness and fast thinking helped us locate and handle the suspect faster and better than any detective."
Connor did his best by being sincere. It was true, (Y/n) did locate the suspected deviant swiftly and naturally before Connor or any other officer could, indicating that Dr.(L/n) was an efficient investigator. Connor wondered how she saw the thirium tracks if they were already dry and transparent...
However, (Y/n) disregarded it - "Not really... just accidentally stumbled upon him."
"But The report did mention you trailing the thirium into the attic, thus finding him."
"Huh, guessed you've seen it already." - Miss(L/n) chuckled lightly, her shoulders easing up as they both continued to chat "Did you get accustomed to the work field already."
"I did, in fact. Lt. Anderson allowed me to occupy a free cubicle next to him... Although I'll have to say, Detective Reed seems hostile towards my actions in the work field."
"Screw Gavin."
"And Lt. Anderson tends to disregard my instructions, telling me to shove them somewhere else... I still haven't figured out where though."
Connor's train of thoughts was shut off as a soft chuckle emitted from the lady walking beside him. For the first time, he saw (Y/n) laugh naturally "Oh, typical... Just remember, don't let them bother you or slow down. The most important thing is that we have a new case."
"Has there been a new report?" - turning to face (Y/n), her expression was back again serious as she brought an electronic tablet terminal to read from.
"Yes, actually... Todd Williams reported early this morning that his domestic Android - AX400 attacked him before kidnapping his daughter. His... adopted Android child."
Connor registered the new detailed, his LED blinking. For a moment he tried to analysis any clues. "A deviant kidnaping a little girl..."
"Yes, well, that's what the victim said. His story is still skeptical. I'll get more into the details as we get into it later, but I requested officers to find any files or reported about Mr.Williams first... something unsettling about his look."
"Got it. Then we should proceed to search as fast as we could. I recommend calling up Lt.Anderson first."
"Sure, just as long as he isn't drunk somewhere in Jimmy's bar - then we might get lucky to actually get him."
Connor's nonchalant face softened upon (L/n)'s word. Her pacifistic and sincere behavior causes his systems to ease up - to relax. She was motivated by work just like him, and yet she kept it possible for others to work with her. He was glad to be assigned to her. Though backing into reality once more, Dr.(L/n) noticed Connor awkwardly glancing at her in silence.
"All in all, I wanted to thank you Dr.(L/n). It's an honor to work with a professional engineer such as yourself, so I believe we'd make a great team." - trying to break the awkward situation, The Android made it only more awkward, as he tried to lighten up the mood with some positive mental attitude. But at least, Connor tried.
Peeking up at the RK800, (Y/n) cracked an unsure smile in return - "Thanks...?"
