Modern AU- Merlin and the Sword in the Stone (Oneshot)
Ok some background info before I post this randomness
-this is a modern AU and is completely non-canon to my original stor(ies)
-Merlin is an elemental, basically a sort of god or deity and the protector of magic. He's lived for thousands of years and seen most of the world's significant history happen. His element, magic, has naturally disappeared from the world and he is the only one able to use it. Since he knows so much he is currently a high school history teacher that teaches AP Magic History. His defining features are white hair that is normally in a sort of fashionable bowl cut and bright purple eyes
-Nathen in this is... IDK. Things keep changing between reincarnation of himself from the past or a completely different character. My modern AUs aren't canon so a lot of things change between them. He is a sophomore in high school and currently has Merlin for AP Magic History teacher as well as seminar/advisory/homeroom teacher. His older brother is currently going to a college somewhere else, and he asked if Merlin could watch after Nathen while he was gone, as their parents disappeared when they were young and they happened to be friends (Merlin taught his brother as well and Mikkial figured out Merlin's secret). Nathen has extremely black hair and brown eyes.
Basically I've been having too much fun with my magic child and I think it's canon that Merlin lives from medieval times to modern and becomes a teacher of some sort and then this popped into my head and yeah... XD

"Hey Nathen," the white-haired man called as he opened the front door.
"Good afternoon, Mister Merlin!" came the reply from the living room.
Merlin sighed. "I told you, you don't have to call me that. I really don't care what you call me," he restated for what felt like the millionth time.
"But I WANT to call you that! It's proper etiquette!" the teenage boy countered immediately. It felt like they had this conversation before.
Which they had.
In school, Merlin tolerated the "mister" because that was what school etiquette demanded. But he still preferred to go by just his first name after a couple hundred thousand years.
The teenage boy was sitting on the couch, munching on microwave popcorn.
"What'cha doing?" the white-haired man asked, leaning against the open doorway into the living room.
"Watching a movie," Nathen said as he turned to look at his current caretaker.
"What movie?" Merlin continued, now sliding onto the other end of the couch.
"It's called The Sword in the Stone. It's a Disney classic," Nathen explained and gestured to the television, which had old animation and coloring and the voices were a little strange.
"Huh," Merlin grunted and turned his attention to the screen. "I've heard of this one. Doesn't it have magic in it?"
"Yeeeep," Nathen confirmed with an oddly suspicious tone. Merlin looked at his charge out of the corner of his eye to see he had a knowing smirk on his face.
What's he got going? The white-haired elemental wondered and turned his full attention to the screen. There currently was odd colored squirrels being chased by normal squirrels up and down and all around the trees.
"What-"
"The main character and his wizard friend turned into squirrels trying to have a lesson but the normal squirrel girl took a liking to the main character." Nathen answered immediately. Merlin blinked, but otherwise said nothing.
"That would be some odd natural selection then," the black-haired teenager stifled some laughter from that comment and quieted down so they could hear the movie again.
The adult odd-colored squirrel had been watching with humor until another normal squirrel had taken a liking to him as well, and then he turned both himself and the supposed main character back into humans. The boy was dressed in clothes Merlin remembered from his childhood, meaning this was set in some sort of medieval time. The wizard was in a tall, pointy blue hat and robe with an outrageously long beard. Then the blonde boy protagonist talked to the wizard directly.
"-Merlin,"
The elemental fell off the couch. "Excuse me?!" he yelled.
Nathen doubled over in laughter, sliding off his seat in the process while laughing his guts out.
"I do not look-" the white-haired young man gestured to the elderly wizard on the screen. "-Look like that!" Merlin was honestly offended at this interpretation of him. Nathen still hadn't recovered from his little prank.
"W-well, all they have to go by is-" he burst into another fit of giggles. "Is white hair!" Merlin groaned and plopped back onto the couch with a hand on his forehead.
"I get that white hair isn't a natural phenotype, but this is outrageous! I'm not an old man! Do I look like I have a beard?!" he flailed his hands, gesturing to his head. Nathen was trying not to smile with humor shining in his eyes as he slowly nodded.
Merlin's eyes widened and he teleported to the bathroom to check.
The teenager could be heard howling all over again.
The adult reappeared with an unamused expression. "You're as bad as Rose and Viryn and Linel!" he exclaimed. "From ten millennia ago!"
Nathen shrugged with a wide grin and paused the movie, which was now going on about magically-washed dishes.
"And that's not how magic works either... Where is the science? The Energie? The-"
"This is a movie made in like 1963 or something. Way after the rest of the world was left magic-less." Nathen reminded the magic elemental.
Merlin sighed but still pouted. "I really hate being me sometimes," he sighed. Nathen rolled his eyes with a smirk and nudged the opposite-haired man with an elbow.
"At least you don't have to deal with school! You just learned it all as you watched people discover it! I still have another two years..."
Now it was Merlin's turn to roll his eyes and smile. "Not to mention college,"
"Can you be my college teacher, too?"
"Nah, that will be your brother, once he's done with his degree."
Nathen frowned. "You're making me choose between my brother and the amazing magic elemental from the medieval ages. I'm not okay with this."
Merlin frowned. "When you say it like that, I do sound like an old wizarding buffoon..." the teen snorted and reached to unpause the movie.
"Wait until you see what happens next in this movie."
