Computer Virus

Before anyone freaks out, NO I DO NOT THINK I GOT A COMPUTER VIRUS.

I just checked though

Cause the other day my computer was blocking me from downloading the latest Minecraft Forge for my mods that I play, because it was saying it was dangerous because it was only released in the last week and only a few Norton users had used it or something like that. It was from the official Forge website and the Minecraft update (1.12.2) was only released like last weekend or something. (I believe)

But I do look back and I notice that the icon for what type of file the Forge installer was was different than the usual .jar or .exe file.

I got the new Forge update from the 9Minecraft, and everything was all good.

But just now when I started up my computer, it freaked out and wanted to do an update. So I let it, thinking it was no big deal.

But then it got stuck and came across an error and restarted itself, and I started to get a little worried.

My computer came back up and immediately had a risk notice for "Trojan.Gen.2."

And my mind went (excuse language here) "oh crap oh sh*t oh sh*t" because I had complained to my dad about it and he told me off big time for exactly this reason.

So I did a little research and found this was a big deal and went and installed a more powerful computer virus scanning software and let it do its thing to make sure there was nothing malevolent on my computer. If there was I would have been screwed~

But it restarted my computer and scanned it and whatever and it came up with no risks found.

Right after a thing came up saying that Norton removed internet risks, and boom, somehow the Forge installer from the official website (at least I think, I don't trust it anymore) was supposedly this thing that could make random pictures pop up and steal info and stuff. It stopped it from downloading and quarantined it.

Not that a teenage student with no money and is good about not posting personal info on the web or really stores personal info on my computer would have anything of value...

But you never know what a hacker could find valuable...

So if you play modded Java Minecraft, I would beware of downloading from            https://files.minecraftforge.net/

LITERALLY THE OFFICIAL FORGE PAGE, I KNOW! IT'S SO WEIRD RIGHT

Also, lesson learned for Becca, listen to your antivirus software unless you are 10000% sure you know what you are doing. And stick to the file types you know are safe and you know what you are downloading!

Let me learn this lesson for you! Don't learn it the hard way!
