9: Interrogation

"Yes, Neji Hyuga and I came to the Hokage's office to complete the set of missions Guy-sensei gave us. Guy-sensei received the missions from The Hokage. We're not sure if The Hokage was in some sort of genjutsu when he gave Guy-sensei the missions though," you say being stared down by the Konoha Torture and Interrogation Force.

Of course, they were only there to interrogate you. Many questions were asked such as, "Do you know who the mystery ninja was?"

"No, he only told me to refer to him as "I", sir."

"Did "I" tell you anything that has to do with his plans."

"No, but he did mention others."

"Do you know who the others are?"

"No; however, they pose a bigger threat than "I". "I" said that he wouldn't harm me, but he couldn't promise that the others wouldn't harm me. "I' also said that he will keep in touch with me." you answer, receiving satisfied looks from them.

"Well, (y/n), is there anything else that you have to say?" asks Ibiki Morino, the head of the force.

"He referred to me as "Miss (y/n)" as if I was royalty or something. And, he noted that I figured out how to manipulate water as if he's seen me before not be able to manipulate water."

Ibiki tries his best to keep a stoic expression, but you can tell that he is thinking up a storm as his brows furrow.

"(y/n), do you know anything about the (l/n) clan?" asks Ibiki.

"I know that my parents were awesome shinobis before they died," you answer honestly.

"Mmmm, okay. Since whoever we're dealing with has an eye out for you (y/n), some of the Anbu forces will be sent to your house and protect you for the time being until we're able to figure out who we're dealing with. Once we find out who it is, we'll put a stop to them," says Ibiki as he turns to follow two others out the room. "I will send someone to escort you back home."

"Wait, what is the (l/n) clan? Is there anything that I don't know about it that I should? If so, I feel that I have every right to know since I am the last of the clan," you say firmly.

"Whether there is or not doesn't apply to whether you should know or not at this very moment (y/n). You're not ready to know. You're still too young," answers Ibiki as he walks away. "Come with me."

You get up from the chair they provided you and follow Ibiki. You were given many stares from those walking around the hallways as they ran errands for their job. Some even whisper to one another as they try not to make eye contact with you. Such behavior was strange for you since you were never really given any stares in public; however, you never thought to look at your surroundings due to you having so much fun conversing and playing with your friends when you went outside. It was as if they knew something about yourself that you did not. You eventually stop in front of a room with Ibiki knocking.

"Stay here," says Ibiki as he knocks and is let in.

You lean on the wall, eventually sliding down to sit on the floor. You close your eyes and chuckle thinking, "I guess we're not winning that competition today."

"Hey (y/n)," greets Neji.

You open your eyes to look up at Neji. After all that has occurred, you still thought Neji was handsome. You stand up to be face to face with Neji.

"Hey Neji, I'm assuming that you're done with the interrogation part?" you reply.

"Yeah," says Neji.

You two stand there in a cloud of awkwardness before Neji says something.

"Are you okay?" he questions.

"Yeah," you answer.

More awkwardness occurs after the answering of that question.

"Look, (y/n)... I know you hate me with all your guts and I don't expect you to forgive me at this very moment, but I apologize for all the pain I've caused you. I was always in a bad mood whenever you approached me due to personal reasons, and I didn't know how to tell you to stop pestering me without being rude. I guess you can say that I was basically taking all my anger out in you," says Neji as he looks you in the eyes.

You ponder about what Neji said.

"Neji, you're right, I won't forgive you now, but I will eventually forgive you. But, there's one thing that I must know. What happened to your mother that concerns me? I've been wanting to know the answer for weeks," you ask.

Before Neji could reply, Ibiki walks out of the room being followed by a man with brown hair and some sort of head brace, completely interrupting the conversation.

"I apologize for interrupting, but (y/n), this is Yamato. He'll be the one protecting you during your daily life when you're not with Guy-Sensei," says Ibiki.

"Oh, hi Yamato, I'm (y/n) (l/n). Thank you for providing your service," you say introducing yourself to Yamato.

"Greetings (y/n), it's my pleasure to help the village when in need of my assistance, so you're welcome," replies Yamato.

"Well, I shall leave you three be now. I must go finish up my job," says Ibiki as he walks towards the interrogation rooms.

"Oh! This is Neji Hyuga, he's a teammate of mine," you say.

"Nice to meet you Neji," replies Yamato.

"The pleasure is mine, Yamato," says Neji with a smile.

The three of you head towards your house while discussing things such as favorite foods, colors, etc. While walking through the streets of Konoha, you take the time to look at the villagers. None of the villagers seem to be staring at you with fear or hatred, so you wonder why people in the Hokage's building we're starting at you so intently. You see Tenten, along with Rock Lee, walking down one of the many streets of Konoha.

"Hey, Tenten, Rock Lee!" you yell running towards them.

They greet you with hugs and ask what was going on. You tell them about the incident at the Hokage's building and they gasp in terror, asking you if you're alright. You tell them that you are alright and that you now have a body guard due to the person who was controlling the Hokage being in an organization that seeks you for some reason. They both shiver in fear.

"Yeah, so I don't think it's best if we all have another sleepover until it all has blown over. I don't want Yamato to have to protect a bunch of kids all at once. We'd probably get in his way," you state.

"Noted," agrees Tenten.

"So how are you and Neji?" asks Rock Lee, clueless that a question such as that is not the best question to ask after what you guys have discussed.

Tenten smacks Rock Lee upside the head and apologizes to you for him and softly scolds him.

"It's okay. I think... I'm getting closer to forgiving him, but it may still be far," you answer, remembering the smile you saw on Neji's face from before. "Oh! What happened with the mission that y'all were given? We were dismissed from ours."

Tenten sighs as Rock Lee excitedly jumps around.

"Not only did we finish ours, but we also had to finish yours! Which is what we did!" exclaims Rock Lee with excitement.

"He's too happy about being given so much work. I would call you lucky (y/n), but after all the stuff you've gone through recently..." Tenten stops before she says anything else and apologizes for possibly triggering any memories that you did not want to remember.

You insist that it is okay and eventually part ways with them. As you are walking to your house, silence pervades the three of you guys until you ask Yamato something.

"Yamato, Neji and I must discuss something privately. Would it be okay if you were to protect me from a distance when we arrive to my house so that we have some privacy while you're doing your job?"

"It'll be okay. I just need to have you in my sight, that's all. Plus, I'll have to eventually survey the entirety of your house to see how many and what ways there are to enter it," replies Yamato.

After hearing a satisfying answer, you three make it to your house. You let not only yourself, but the other two in. You sit on the sofa in front of the coffee table and pat the spot right next to you for Neji to sit at. Yamato says that he will be back to supervise you after surveying the house. While he does that, you finally discuss things with Neji once he sits down.

"So about that question from earlier," you say, trying to start the conversation once again.

"The (l/n) clan held something in their possession that deemed them the best clan in Konoha, even better than the Uchiha," starts Neji. "They had a weapon that was supposed to protect Konohagakure from any trouble."

"I'm assuming that I was the weapon?" you interrupt.

"Yeah, you were," says Neji.

"You said that I was supposed to protect Konohagakure- key word: protect," you note.

"According to my uncle, who witnessed it all due to him being good friends with your parents and happened to be there at the time, something angered you as a child and triggered the beast within you. Due to you being a child and not knowing what to do, the beast took a hold of you and used you. You- no the beast- ended up destroying half of the village before you were tranquilized and quarantined for a month. Of course many were injured, and of the half of the village destroyed, thirty-two were killed. One of them being my mother of course. Knowing this information as a child made me despise you because I questioned as to why you were so happy and giddy after destroying and ruining many things," says Neji as tears start to form at the corner of his eyes.

"I apologize that you remember the death of your mother whenever you look at me, Neji," you say reaching for the tissue box on the coffee table to only grab it and hand it to Neji.

After wiping his tears away, Neji speaks again.

"It's okay (y/n). It could've happened to anyone. I just want to apologize to you for everything that I've done. I'm sure you were full of confusion," answers Neji.

"I still have a few more questions though, so please bear with me," you begin, watching Neji nod with approval. "Aside from your mother, who were the other thirty-one to die?"

Neji hesitates and asks if you really want to know. You say yes, waiting for Neji to answer as he still hesitates.

"The other thirty-one to die were..." Neji hesitates again once more.
