8: "Just remember, he's not worth the wait."
Because Being Together Is Enough~8
Another Mike.
It was the same face. They were twins. Mike had a twin and they both were identical. Same features, same red hair, same everything. And the way the 'other Mike' looked at me...was intense. Maybe a sort of protectiveness in his eyes for me. I couldn't avert my gaze away from him. He kept staring at me. His attention was then snapped back to his brother and uncle Jonathan.
"Really Jace. I didn't expect this from you," Jonathan stated, disappointed.
Wait! Who was he calling Jace? The one who saved me? I needed to find out soon.
"Your mom and dad were very good friends of mine and in the memory of Kate, I invited you to this party. I am now very much regretful of my decision. You should leave."
I saw Mike (who behaved badly with me) smirk. That meant, the other twin's name was Jace and he was being told to go away when he didn't even do anything wrong. I needed to speak up.
"Uncle Jonathan!" I interrupted.
"Jace saved me. It was he who..." I trailed off pointing my fingers towards Mike.
"Anna dear, you must've been mistaken," he stated firmly.
"No!" I started to protest but my mom came from behind me putting a hand on my shoulder.
"No mom he saved me. Jace saved me," I almost cried.
Jace's expression remained unchanged and his gaze remained intense.
"Jace, go away! And dare you mess with my best friend," said Mike.
Best friend? Half an hour ago he didn't even remember my name. Pathetic. Really disgusting.
"Hey!-" I was interrupted by Jace this time.
"Hey Anna, I should go now really." He gave me a reassuring smile but deep down I knew he was unhappy.
How did he know my name?
"No Jace it was you who-"
"Anna, don't worry. I know you're in shock," Mike came towards me and half -hugged me. I shrugged him off angrily.
Jace started to leave and when he reached the door, he turned and said, "Just remember, he's not worth the wait."
Who's not worth the wait? I don't get it. What happened? I don't know. Why it happened? I don't know it either. Strange.
---
I couldn't stop staring at the fan.
"Stop overthinking Anna," Emily broke the silence.
She had come with me and was staying at my house tonight. My mother was still at the party and my mood was very bad to even wait for her to come along us. I told her I didn't want to go to the party.
"I am not overthinking Em. It's just that I am sure that Jace-"
"Saved you," she completed the sentence for me.
"Look Anna," she held my shoulders and made me face her, "I believe you but there is no other way that others will believe us."
There had to be a way. The one person I needed the most right now was Adrian. All I wanted to do was curl up in his arms and forget all worries. It was such a horrible Ad-less week.
"But I don't get it. Why did Mike behave with me like that?" I muttered, exasperated.
"Maybe he was attracted to you Anna."
"But he has a girlfriend," I retorted.
"Who wants to have a girlfriend like Jade?" she answered as if it was a fact.
"That's not-"
Emily kissed my cheek that meant she ended the discussion. She hugged me after she switched off the lights and we both dozed off to sleep.
---
He covered the distance between us in three long strides and bent down to kiss me. I loved the way his warm and soft lips moved against mine, softly but passionately. I clutched his hair in my hands instinctively, pulling him closer if that was possible. He was the only thing keeping me together right now or my legs would have given up already. He bit my lip a little and I moaned. Suddenly water was thrown on us and Mike disappeared.
"What the hell?" I screamed, water dripping off my face.
My face was so cold. I put my hands on my face. Who did it? I saw Emily sitting infront of me with an empty bucket.
"Why did you-"
She showed me the watch.
It was 7:10 A.M. And school started at 7:40 A.M.
"Shit!" I muttered.
I ran to the bathroom and slipping in mid way.
"Oww!" I groaned.
"Tsk-tsk."
My bottom was hurting badly. I gave Emily a last 'wtf' look as she made a tsking noise and with my butt paining, I locked the bathroom. I relished the moment. That kiss... Who was he? It felt so real. I had never had a dream like that before. Was it...? No. Stupid mind. Stupid Anna.
I washed my face and to my embarassment I noticed that I myself had bitten my lip and there was dried blood on it. Oh my god. Am I that mad now? I am so... Nevermind. My hormones were on the peak.
My mom was still sleeping but Emily had already made toasts for us. I put on a lot of butter as my stomach growled with hunger.
"Anna, too much of that is not healthy," Emily spoke like a mother.
The toast was half-way in my mouth and I replied, "Dontu coul mah buttrr unnealthy."
Emily rolled my eyes as I didn't manage to speak normally with the toast in my mouth.
She was already eighteen so she drove us in my mother's car to school. I still had a week to turn eighteen.
We got out of the blue car and headed to our class which was of Chemistry. Way too boring...
It was our practical today and we were going to do salt analysis and guess what we had to do it in pairs. I couldn't see anyone who could pair up with me because today Serena was absent, Emily was pairing with her most beloved boyfriend Albert and well, I just hoped that I got a good partner because with a good partner I will be able to concentrate and understand the practical well.
"You may pair up and start working," our Chemistry lab teacher ordered us after giving us instructions.
Instead of worrying about a partner, I headed to the lab assistant to get my test tubes and salts.
I made a note on which I wrote my name and roll no. and gave it to sir.
"Anna Jones," he said.
"Yes sir."
"Where's your partner's name?" he asked me.
"I haven't found one yet, sir."
"Come back with him or her," he stated giving me my slip back.
What the hell? Now I had to search for a partner before performing the experiment?
I saw Gage at a distance, the class nerd and headed towards him.
"Hey Gage!" I greeted him.
He looked at me in dreamy eyes.
"Hey...um...what's your name sorry?"
Wow. He was the perfect nerd.
"My name's Anna," I tried to keep calm.
"Will you be my partner for the experiment?" I asked him.
"Uhmm...Actually..."
"We're doing it together Gage, aren't we?" A boy named Drake, the bully of the class came from behind him and put an arm around his shoulder, squeezing him a bit and that made Gage flinch.
Well, I need to stay away from them.
"It's okay Gage," I muttered and went away.
I searched for someone who was alone like me, so that we can pair up and get the fucking test tubes.
"There must be someone. Someone," I whispered again and again.
Suddenly, I saw Nathan entering the lab. For I knew, he wasn't at all in Chemistry. I couldn't help staring at him. He greeted the teacher and teacher told him something which obviously I couldn't hear and then Nathan nodded. Then...well...his eyes snapped towards me.
God, help me. He wasn't going to leave me.
He came towards me.
"Hey Jones!" he greeted me.
I rolled my eyes at his habit of saying my last name.
"Hey!" I muttered.
"So...you didn't find a partner?" he asked awkwardly.
How did he know?
"Um...no...I mean I found him. He must be waiting-" I tried going away. There was no way that I will pair up with Nathan. He won't let me concentrate!
He pulled my arm, "I know you haven't."
He winked at me before going away. Of course, he would find any girl who will be dying to be his partner. I headed to my workstation without anything to do. I can't find a partner maybe my partner would find me? We were even students in the class today, so I knew I will surely get a partner, only that he/she was taking too long.
I saw Nathan heading towards the lab assistant and Melissa trailing her fingers on Nathan's shoulder, and talking to him. Nathan smiled and said something at which Melissa's seductive smile vanished. I wonder what he said. Anyways, I sat on my stool and put my head in my hands. What was I going to do?
Then I heard the sound of test tubes being put in my test tube stand.
"Are we going to start now?"
It was Nathan. He write my name in the note?
"What-" I was confused why he refused Melissa.
"Hey! I needed to concentrate and with Melissa showing her way too sexy body, I don't think I would have understood anything. And you're just opposite, like my boy friend. I don't need to worry," He answered my confusion.
Ouch! Of course, it was Nathan. He's always like that. But, I don't know why but it hurt that he called me a boy.
"Now...are you gonna explain me how to perform this hell of the experiment?" he said.
Really? And why should I help him after he insulted me?
Anna, you got a partner.
Yeah. That's right, I got a partner.
So what? I can get another.
No. You can't. Stop wasting time!
Nathan didn't do anything and it was a total waste of time to explain the ways and stuff on how to check the anion of the salt.
"Fuck it!" he would always whisper.
"Just forget it," I would answer.
We finally, actually correction, I finally identified the two anions in our salts while Nathan did nothing but to stare at my face which he thought was not at all beautiful, the whole time. But atleast I was able to complete experiment while other lovey-dovey pairs were still struggling as to which salt they had got.
It was then I noticed that Nathan's eyes were bloodshot and a couldn't stop staring at them. Don't get me wrong, we had nothing to do but to sit beside one another on the stools silently as we were done with the experiment and it was still ten minutes for the bell to ring.
"What?" He asked me as he noticed that I was staring at him.
"Didn't you sleep last night?" I came straight to the point, completely scrutinising his face.
"Uh..." he seemed at a loss of words which means he was hiding something.
"Why do you care?" he managed to speak.
Yes. Why did I care?
"Don't change the topic," I stated.
"I dreamed about you so I couldn't sleep," he answered.
I blushed. He dreamed about me? Was he joking?
"And well, you were a vampire and haunted me the whole night," and he struggled not to laugh out loud.
That felt like a slap that was never given.
"Just...I shouldn't have cared," I said, annoyed.
"Hey hey hey. I am sorry. Okay?"
I didn't look at him. I didn't reply.
After few minutes of silence, he said, "Did you-did you go to the party yesterday?"
I turned to face him.
"Yes. Why?"
"My father... Did you meet him?" he asked, quietly.
"Yes, I did. He's a great gentleman."
I could suddenly see the anger in his eyes.
"No, he is not."
"Yes, he is!" I argued back.
"You don't know him," he continued to argue.
"Let's not talk," I ended the discussion.
"People are not what they look like!" He said to me and then sped off as the bell rang.

A/N: Hello everybody. I updated! Yay! I just need more motivation to continue with this story. I actually need inspiration guys or I won't be writing more of it. So another reason why I took so long to update this chapter was that I wrote the whole chapter few days ago directly on wattpad and as I was writing the author's note, my phone's battery went dead and to my horror when I charged it again I saw that the chapter wasn't saved :(. A hearty thanks to Nadeen-Hussien for urging me to write this. Thank you it means alot dear. It is for you, that I have updated. I really hope you will all like this chapter. And I didn't leave it on a cliffhanger;) Probably, I'll update soon if you all give me the motivation. Maybe if I get fifty votes/comments on this chapter? Till then, goodbye!
Lots of hugs,
Gargi.
