Soni is described as a very sweet and caring young girl. She loves having her friends and sisters by her side that it makes her feel very safe and secure whenever she goes out for her missions. With fighting demons, Soni has a very sympathetic/empathetic nature that she shows her mercy, but doesn't like it when most of her enemies are ill-intentioned and evil. She tends to grow extremely sensitive if anyone mentions Kanae or her parents, which causes her to become more emotional if she feels like her grief is being threatened.

Losing both her parents and Kanae may be the result of her separation anxiety, but Soni refused to give up on the promise she'd made.

What was it derived from?
Fairy Breathing derives from the combination of Flower Breathing and Insect Breathing, which mimics fairies and replicates it with the user's movements, techniques and abilities. Most, if not all, known techniques focuses on utilizing Insect Breathing's mind-numbing speed and Flower Breathing's graceful yet effective strikes and agility. It also enhances and utilizes one's vision, albeit at the possibility cost of their eyesight. This technique is created by Soni Kocho.

The user leaps sideways and delivers a vertical attack that slices an opponent's throat while evading nearby attacks.

Second Form
Vibrant Light
The user unleashes a singular sword slash that curves and twists gracefully.

Third Form
Mystical Mercy
The user changes the grip onto their sword and delivers a graceful slash that decapitates the target in a gentle yet singular strike, causing little no pain. This will only be used if the target willingly surrenders.

Fourth Form
Graceful Flight
The user leaps highly into the air and dives down towards the target, "stinging" them multiple times with their blade to inject poison in just seemingly one strike.

It also raises the user's kinetic vision to its maximum, while using this technique the user perceives the world as if it were in slow motion. Usage of the technique, however, is highly dangerous, as the tremendous strain on the eyes could cause blood vessels to rupture and lead to partial or complete blindness. This technique is still usable even if the user only has one fully functional eye.

Backstory
//SPOILERS!!!//
Soni was born the youngest daughter in the Kocho Family. She lived in a wealthy yet loving household with her parents and two older sisters named Kanae and Shinobu. Their parents were also known for working as doctors since they've been compounding medicine. She loved nothing more than to see her family smiling; whether it'll be her giving flower crowns or singing.

She's very close with Kanae and Shinobu that the three sisters shared a very special bond that could never be broken. She'd even made them flower bracelets as her way of showing how much she loves them dearly in her heart. She was very content with her life, until one night a demon broke into their home and killed both parents who tried to protect the girls.

Soni was left petrified from the bloody sight as she and Shinobu were held in Kanae's embrace. Just before the demon can attack them, they were then saved by the Stone Hashira, Gyomei Himejima, who had slain the demon. Now more determined as a result of the pain and suffering they endured, the three sisters made a promise to become demon slayers to protect each other, and prevent other people from enduring the same losses they had to experience.

After being taking in by the man who saved them, both Kanae and Shinobu would try many times to convince him to teach them how to become demon slayers while Soni would watch helplessly, but Gyomei would refuse. However, after managing to move a large boulder, the girls then convince the tall man to introduce them to breathing style cultivators. Ever since, Kanae has been learning a breathing style named Flower Breathing. Shinobu, on the other hand, didn't seem to have the potential nor strength to learn the technique, so she developed her own technique named Insect Breathing.

As she would watch them train with her keen eyesight, Soni couldn't help but remember the horrible sight of the bodies of their parents and the face of the monster she'd feared, which caused her to break down into tears that even alerted both sisters. While Kanae stopped her training and immediately comforted the young girl, Shinobu couldn't help but watch with sympathy and sadness, which was mixed with the hidden hatred and anger that she felt towards demons. Overtime, the master of the corps officially named Kanae as the Flower Hashira.

A few months later, Soni was found in the flower garden where she'd met a different girl who seemed to be two years older than her. She had plum purple eyes, fair skin, black hair that is tied in a side ponytail with a pinkish purple butterfly ornament, and she seems to be wearing a pink yukata. Shinobu then explained how she and Kanae had found her tied up and being led as a slave by a grown man in the small village, but somehow they'd purchased her yet saved her from poverty, which led Kanae deciding to take her back to the Butterfly Mansion and adopt her.

Soni may feel a bit intimidated by the girl's blank stare, but she still welcomed her. Overtime, Aoi was soon introduced when she was taken in to the Butterfly Mansion. Soni grew a little nervous around her from how she'd pestered Kanao of choosing her last name when she and the Kochos were trying to figure out what her last name will be, but somehow she'd eventually warmed up to the blue eyed girl. Eventually, three smaller girls were introduced; Sumi, Kiyo, and Naho. Soni seemed very anxious as she hid behind Kanae, but after she'd explained what happened to their families, Soni grew sympathetic and made some flower crowns to welcome them.

However, Soni's life turned upside down after experiencing another thing that scarred her greatly. Kanae was getting herself prepared for another mission, which involved having to fight an Uppermoon Demon, but Soni refused to let go of her hand while Kanao watched Shinobu trying to hold her back, which made Aoi and the triplets very worried about the girl's behavior. Kanae only smile and knelt down, giving Soni's head a gentle pat and told her that she'd be okay before also telling her that there was a gift waiting to be opened until her birthday.

Once she left the butterfly mansion, Shinobu immediately took Soni outside to the garden and began asking her about why she was acting like that in front of Kanao and the other girls, which lead her to push her sister away and began telling her out of anger about the times where she would have a breakdown from remembering the deaths of their parents, and that she was scared of losing Kanae. After explaining, Shinobu's eased up her temper and immediately held her younger sister in a comforting embrace, which led her to return the hug and bursting into tears.

For hours, Soni waited in the garden for Kanae to return home from her mission, but as time passed, she couldn't help but feel incredibly anxious that Aoi and the triplets were worried for the young girl while Kanao would sit next to her and watch the butterflies fly around the garden. However, when she spotted the Kasugai Crows flying in the air, the sudden news of Kanae's death caused Soni to be in utter shock that she felt her heart breaking. Kanae promised that she'll be okay and return home!

Seeing Shinobu walking towards her with red and puffed eyes, Soni then saw Kanae's bloodied butterfly haori and hair ornaments in her hands before asking if her death was true. After Shinobu stated that it was true, memories of their parents and Kanae flooded in Soni's head before she'd fallen onto her knees and sobbed uncontrollably. During Kanae's funeral, Soni tried to force herself into holding back tears as she stood next to Kanao and watched the other girls mourn for the fallen Flower Hashira, but immediately broke down once again just after Shinobu brought her into a comforting embrace and told her that Kanae wouldn't want them to suffer from all of this sadness and pain.

Shinobu then became the new master of the Butterfly Mansion at the age of 14 to take her place. Later on, both Soni and Shinobu then inherited their sister's personality and they both made a promise to always stick together, as well as carrying on Kanae's dream and taking good care of Kanao and the other butterfly girls.

On the day of Soni's 10th birthday, Shinobu gave her a large box that was neatly wrapped in a lilac purple ribbon as she told her that it was a gift from Kanae before her passing. Kanao, Aoi, and the triplets watched as she'd opened the box and pulled out the one thing that reminded her so much of Kanae, which was an identical butterfly haori that's green which fades into a light lavender purple.

Years later, Shinobu took the opportunity to train both her younger siblings to become demon slayers. Kanao somehow learned to master Flower Breathing just by watching Kanae before her passing. Soni, on the other hand, was having major problems with learning that technique along with Insect Breathing. However, as she was training by herself, Soni then discovered that she'd created a new technique, in which she named it Fairy Breathing.

A few months later, Soni took the same Final Selection as Kanao and learnt to master Fairy Breathing as she used it on the demons who were about to attack the girl and her adoptive sister. Once the seven day trial was completed, Soni officially became the new member of the Demon Slayer Corps and swore revenge against the one demon who took Kanae's life.
