Around demons and enemies, Shiryu does show more of a sinister side, despite his monotone expression.

Reason why joining the Demon Slayer Corps?
Shiryu joined because he made a promise to his sister that he'll protect her from all evil after enduring the loss of their family who were killed by the demon king himself, Muzan Kibutsuji. Breathing Style
Wisteria Breathing

What was it derived from?
Wisteria Breathing was derived from the combination of Flower Breathing and Insect Breathing, which mimics the actual wisteria flowers, vines, and its deadly poison. It also helps utilize and improve the user's enhanced eyesight. Shiryu's father originally created this technique when he'd first fought against Muzan.

How many forms?
7 forms (8 including Final Form)

Explain forms

First Form
Poison Thrust
The user delivers a powerful thrust and injects poison, causing the target to bleed out and suffer an agonizing death.

Second Form
Petal Dance
The user releases several rotating sword slashes that deflects incoming physical attacks.

Third Form
Evening Moonlight
The user gracefully flips backwards and delivers a powerful slash with their body weight to create a large wheel in the shape of a crescent moon.

Fourth Form
Wisteria Vine Dance
The user leaps highly in the air and tightens their grip on the sword before diving down and stabbing the ground with great force, releasing several consecutive slashes that acts as vines of wisteria trees.

Fifth Form
Blessings, New Life
The user changes the grip onto their sword and delivers a graceful slash that decapitates the target in a gentle yet singular strike, causing little no pain. This form is only used if the target willingly surrenders.

Sixth Form
Leaping Flower, Toxic
The user takes a quick breath and performs leaping steps for transportation and dodging any incoming attacks.

Seventh Form
Death, Scattered Wisteria
The user leaps highly in the air and charges towards the opponent, stinging them multiple times with their blade to inject poison in just seemingly one strike. During the form, the user disguises the attack with a beautiful illusionary background of wisteria trees blooming in the same trajectory in order to commit the attack.

Final Form
Wisteria Dance, Venomous Dragon Head
This form is the strongest yet dangerous one! The user propels forward and creates a Japanese dragon with wisteria petals and unleashes a number of consecutive slashes in a flowing and graceful motion. During the form, it raises the user's kinetic vision to its maximum, while using this specific technique the user perceives the world as if it were slow motion. Usage of the technique, however, is highly dangerous, as the tremendous strain of the eyes could cause blood vessels to rupture and lead to partial or complete blindness. This technique is still usable if the user only has one fully functional eye.

Backstory
Shiryu was born the middle child in his family. He lived in a wealthy household with his parents and two siblings; an older brother and younger twin sister. Life was peaceful, truth to be told, but he had a few issues with his brother and father.

He was the son of the strongest demon slayer, who was none other than his father, Rin. He was the former Hashira of Wisteria Breathing, which was his personal technique for himself when he'd first encountered the Demon King himself, Muzan Kibutsuji. When Shiryu was only 10 years old, he and his brother, Kōshi who was 14 years old, they were both being trained by Rin.

During each training sessions, Shiryu was always clumsy to master each lessons that Rin viewed him as a weakling for not doing anything perfectly. However, Kōshi was the only one who got everything perfect, which lead Shiryu to doubt himself and his own confidence because of his current failure in each lesson. Whenever everyone else was still asleep, Shiryu continued training on his own each night, but he'd always mess up his own routine.

With his younger sister named Sumire, it was completely different. They were very inseparable growing up that they have a special bond. Whenever they would visit the wisteria forest near their house, Shiryu would try meditating to help keep himself more relaxed so he can focus on his routine for the next day, but he would always end up with having Sumire rest her head on his lap so she can sleep as he meditates.

His mother, Amethyst, had a very gentle soul and kind heart that everyone seemed to fall in love with her personality. She cared and loved the family, but whenever she would observe Rin training their sons, Amethyst would always frown upon seeing her husband praising Kōshi while Shiryu had only earned harsh criticisms for his constant failures in each lessons.

Out of all people, Shiryu would always choose Amethyst to vent his frustrations and insecurities after training with Rin and Kōshi. The only advice that she'd gave him was to never give up and continue what he had to do in order to earn Rin's respects in his skills. However, those were her last words before the one night where Shiryu had to leave his childhood home behind.

During one harsh winter night, Shiryu and Kōshi were having a heated conversation about their experiences with Rin's training, which resulted the young boy having to force himself into confessing his frustrations and insecurities that he hid from them since day one of training. This caught Kōshi off guard by his outburst, though he just pushed it aside and was about to say something before the two brothers froze from hearing the screams of their family.

They quickly rushed back towards their house and only found a stranger walking out of the house...and covered in blood. Already fueled with rage knowing something bad happened to their family, Kōshi found Rin's fallen sword and immediately grabbed it before charging towards the stranger. Shiryu tried stopping his brother, but the stranger only ordered a nearby demon to brutally attack the older son.

Frantically moving away from the bloodied demon as it came menacingly moved closer to the frightened boy, Shiryu only cried out for help in hopes of someone to hear him before he found himself pinned down by the hungry demon. Before the creature can strike, another stranger appeared and effortlessly slayed the demon, saving the boy's life. Staring up at the stranger with wide eyes, Shiryu can easily tell that it was a demon slayer just by identifying the uniform.

The stranger then introduced himself as the Water Hashira, Giyu Tomioka. He asked the boy if he was alright, but Shiryu only stared before responding. Before he can say anything else, Tomioka went into the slight damage house, leaving Shiryu confused before his eyes widened in the mix of relief and shock as he watched the Hashira gently carrying Sumire out the house. It turned out that the younger girl was hiding in the family closet during the massacre.

After Shiryu and Sumire had briefly reunited and burying their family's bodies near the wisteria forest, Giyu only stared down at them and was about to walk away, but Shiryu quickly stopped the Hashira to thank him for saving his life and finding Sumire. Giyu only nodded his head to Shiryu before walking off, leaving the two remaining siblings alone. After a brief moment to think, Shiryu found Rin's hidden journal and grabbed Sumire by the hand before the two children quickly chased after Giyu, which caught the older man off guard.

Knowing they don't have anyone else to look after the two children, Giyu made a decision to take them in to his estate near the Demon Slayer Corps. Ever since, Shiryu then had a motivation to seek for revenge against the man who took away his family's lives in cold blood, which was the only thing that set his heart ablaze. Remembering that Rin's journal that had different methods for training, Shiryu took it upon himself to learn more about Wisteria Breathing while Sumire would watch.

As he trained, Shiryu couldn't help but think about Rin's criticisms that sent him to the edge of frustration, but he held it all back with a determined expression and continued on with his training, ignoring his doubts and insecurities. Fast forward after passing Final Selection and becoming a demon slayer, Shiryu fought every single demon that he'd slowly rose his rank to the point where he was named the Wisteria Hashira. Overtime, he had no choice but to train Sumire into becoming a demon slayer despite her not asking for his permission.

Ever since, Shiryu made a promise to her that he'd protect her from all harm's ways while he trains her into becoming stronger. With everything he'd went through in the past, he won't stop fighting demons until he meets Muzan again with the thirst for revenge.
