Chapter VI
Four days. That's how long you've been their prisoner, but it felt like longer; a few weeks at least. At the same time, it felt like next to nothing. You had experienced so much. You had been on at least two new islands and ridden in a boat. You've gone swimming in an above ground lake and really flown for the first time in your memory. Sure you've flown before, but never under the open sky with no guard - of course, technically you did have a guard: Dagur, but he was on the ground and couldn't really stop you from preforming "dangerous stunts."
Speaking of Dagur, he seemed rather confused as to why you were mad at him. Almost like he expected you to forget it over night. But you didn't. To prove that you were still upset you stayed in your full dragon form for most of the day and either ignored him or -quite literally- spat acid at him when he got too nosey. It wasn't until the next day that Dagur seemed to have had enough.
"I'm sorry okay?"
You shifted into your half form to talk to him.
"And what are you sorry for?" you asked.
"What ever it is that you're mad about!"
Unsatisfied, you returned to a dragon. You weren't going to forgive him unless he knew why you were upset in the first place.
"Seriously?" He was clearly exasperated, "I don't know why you're mad!"
You huffed at him as if to say, "Figure it out!"
He was about to say something else when someone came through the brush.
"Dagur," the soldier said, "Vigo would like to speak with you."
You weren't facing them, but you could hear them shuffle off into the trees, leaving you alone.
It wasn't until it just after sundown that you heard foot steps again. You turned, expecting to to Dagur, but was instead greeted by Riker. You stated at him and he stared back.
"You know why I'm here," he said.
You did know. Vigo wanted to talk to you. The sudden dread set in that you had been caught out of your cage.
With out a word you shifted to your full human form and waited for him to open the door. You silently walked to Vigo's tent, the dread in your stomach getting worse and worse.
When you walked in your eyes were immediately drawn to Dagur, who looked like he had been beaten until he stayed down on his knees. Riker shoved you down onto your knees beside him.
"Did you honestly think you could pull a stunt like that and get away with it?" Vigo asked.
You felt your eyes widen with panic. He knew. He knew and there was no point in trying to lie your way out of it. You stayed silent and cast your eyes at the ground. You wanted so badly to at least look at Dagur's face to see how badly he was hurt.
Vigo slammed his fist on a table, "Answer me!"
"I told you it was all my idea," Dagur said weakly. You could hear in his voice that he wanted to fight Vigo, but was too weak to try.
Vigo lowered his voice to its normal tone, "You're lucky she came back. Unlike your sister." You heard Dagur stiffen at the mention of Heather. "Oh yes, I know about you releasing that traitor," Vigo hummed, "I was willing to forgive the mishap, but now you're releasing prisoners of war."
Dagur remained silent.
"You've gone soft Dagur. Your attachments have made you weak."
"I am not weak," Dagur said firmly.
"Then prove it."
You looked you to see Vigo holding out a club for Dagur to take. You had the sinking feeling that he meant for Dagur to beat you with it, perhaps get some information. Riker hauled the redhead to his feet and shoved him towards the weapon.
You could see the resolve form in his eyes as he accepted the wooden club and prepared for a beating. He towered over you, terrifying in the pale candle light. He raised his club over you head and swiftly turned, hitting Vigo in the stomach instead.
As soon as you processed what he had done he had already knocked out Riker. Vigo quickly recovered his air and made a lunge for Dagur. Acting on instinct, you stood and blocked his attack. Vigo seemed surprised by your skill in hand-to-hand combat, but did his best to remain unphased. You both managed to get in a few hits before you threw a candle at his face. Taking advantage of the time, you grabbed Dagur's hand and ran out of the tent.
The soldiers had heard the commotion and were in the mist of gathering to prevent your escape. They formed a barrier between you and the trees, leaving a cliff and the ocean behind you. They must have forgotten you could fly. You were counting on it.
"You feel like flying?" you asked Dagur, making sure no one was going to get between you and your escape. He seemed to get the general idea when he saw you looking at the cliff and you both began running. Upon reaching the edge Dagur came to a sudden stop and faced the soldiers who had begun chasing you. You on the other hand had dived off the cliff and began shifting as soon as your feet left the ground.
A few moments later you, now as a ferocious beast, flew over the soldiers and spat fire at them. Most of them scattered to avoid the bright flames while others fired arrows at you.
Seeing an opening, you landed next to Dagur, motioning with your head for him to get on your back. As soon as he did you took off, performing aerial stunts to avoid being shot, Dagur screaming in your ear for a solid two minutes. He must not be used to flying.
You flew over the water and was almost out of range when you felt a stab in your side.
"Oh no!" You heard Dagur say, confirming your suspicions. You had been shot.
