Chapter I

A/N
Fair warning to all new readers! I'm really bad at posting frequently, but it'll be worth the wait once I get going.

"Y/n!" yelled your aunt at she searched for you. She spotted you amongst the rocks that were falling from the cave ceiling. She grabbed your arm and pushed you into a hole in the wall. "They're coming. You need to stay here. Let your uncle and I handle it," she said in a hurried panic. "But it's my job to handle things like this. Let me talk to them," you tried to reason. "No. You're not ready. If something happens to us, you're the only chance our people have left," she said. "Stay here." With that she left to protect her family.

You were hidden high up in the cave. On a ledge out of sight, but you had a perfect view. A group of men walked into the small hidden town in your cave. Three stood out. A large, bald guy with a black mustache. An intelligent-looking man with black hair. And a red head around your age. "Um, Vigo? I thought we were here to catch a dragon," he said/screamed. "Don't worry, Dagur. We are," the intelligent one said in a strange accent. "Where is your leader?" he asked the group on people who had gathered. They remained silent. "Perhaps I didn't make myself clear," he said. He nodded toward the bald man as if to signal him to do something. The man reached forward and grabbed your aunt, holding her in a head lock using his sword. You want to call out her name, but your uncle beats you to it. He steps forward claiming that he is the one that they are looking for. "Do you think I'm stupid?" the man asked, "You and I both know that you're not the one I'm here for. I'm here for the last of the alpha bloodline. I know she's here. I know your watching!" He yelled to you, "I know your here! Why don't you come out? Or I'll kill her."

You stay silent to see if he's bluffing. "Alright," he said, taking out his bow. You watch as he strings the bow. Your uncle is held back by some of the other men. At the last minute, you unraveled your wings and flew down in front of your aunt. You blocked the arrow with your wing. You now stand with your head lowered, as if you're bowing. "Looking for me?" you say, glaring at the man who just tried to shoot your aunt. "You see the dragon girl too, right?" the redhead asked one of the other men. "Ah, Princess (Y/n). How nice of you to join us," the man said, putting away his weapon. "Let her go," you say, referring to your aunt. The man looks at the one holding your aunt and nods. He releases her and she rushes to join your uncle. "I'm sure you're wondering who I am. Who we are," he said. You remained silent and stone-faced. "I am Vigo Grimborn and this is my brother, Riker, and our friend Dagur," he says gesturing to each. He then gestures to the thirty or so men that came in with them, "And these are the dragon hunters. Or some of them at least."

That word seemed to trigger something inside you. "Dragon hunters?" You said as if to clarify that that's what you had heard. "Yes. I was starting to wonder if you remembered what had happened. Now I can see you do," he said, "How, when I was a teenager, I had come with my father, searching for dragon knowledge. We knew that your grandparents had it, but they refused to give it to us. So, we took it by force. Every single member of the alpha bloodline died defending it, including your dear parents. All except you. Although, you were so young and could barely walk, if I remember correctly. Who could expect you to fight?" You felt tears trail down your cheeks at the memory. You hated it. You hated him. You hated how he forced you the relive watching your parents meet their violent end. "I could've killed you," he continued, "I could've put an end to your suffering. But I didn't. You know why? Because I knew that you would be of value one day. And now that day has come."

"What do you want, Vigo?" You spat his name like it was poison. He held out an tube shaped object. "Do you know what this is?" he asked. You stayed silent. "He asked you a question!" The redhead screamed in your ear. You ignored him to the best of your ability and focused on the object. You remember seeing it before. Your aunt and uncle had told you about it. That's what they took, you thought. You had found a book about it and almost memorized it. Only you know the every ability of the little contraption. "Maybe," you answered, "Why does it matter?"

"Why does it matter?" Dagur laughed. He stopped abruptly. "That's actually a good question." Vigo rolled his eyes. "I know that there's more to the Dragon Eye then we know. And I know that you're the only one who can tell us what those things are. After all, your grandparents are the ones who built it."

"I'm prepared to offer you a deal," he said. "I'm listening," you answered, curious to what leverage he would have over you. "You will come with us and show us all of the abilities of the Dragon Eye and in return we will never disturb your people again," Vigo said in full confidence. "And if I don't?" you asked, not ever to leave the safety of the caves. "Well, I imagine that lycanwings could get us a fair amount of money on the slave market, wouldn't you agree brother?" he said, including his brother in on the conversation. "We could buy an entire 'nother fleet of ships with that much money," he agreed. You could hear gasps and mummers of fear come from your people. "And if they're not willing to coroperate, we could always end them now," Dagur said with a strange laugh.

"So, what will it be, Princess?"

You shifted so you appeared completely human and they took you aboard their ship and placed you below deck in a cell with strange green bars. Vigo and Riker went to the captain's quarters leaving Dagur with the job of locking you up. You gazed into the other cells where dragons were being held. You felt so sorry for them. You were snapped out of your thoughts by Dagur shoving you into a cell. "Why lock me up when I've already agreed to your deal?"

He slammed the door. "Because we don't want you wandering around the ship or trying to escape," he said loudly. You flinched at the harsh tone of his voice. For a moment, you think you see a brief flash of guilt on his face, but in a moment he is back to his regular snarling expression. With that he leaves, presumably to meet up with Riker and Vigo.

For the first time sense this whole mess started, you allow yourself to consciously cry. You cry for your parents that you will never see again. You cry for your aunt and uncle and your new cousin that you may never meet. You cry for yourself. You don't know how long you're going to be their prisoner. You don't know if you'll ever be free again. Once you ran out of tears you fell asleep on the hard, wooden floor.

You woke up in a cage in the middle of the woods. It was made of the same green metal. You couldn't see the sky from where you were, but by the light it seemed to be near dark. That was find with you. Lycanwings are basically nocturnal. You look around in awe at the different plants around you. You've never even been outside the caves, much less off the island. You climb the bars to grab a leaf so you can have a better look. You reach through the bars and grab at a low hanging branch. After many failed attempts, you find that you can easily fit through the holes between the bars. Once you grab the branch, you pull the end off to inspect it and sit on top of the cage. Your sitting near the middle of the cage with your legs hanging down.

"Now this is interesting," you hear a voice say. You identify it as Vigo. "Um, why are you staring at a leaf?" you hear Dagur ask. You continue to stare at the branch, "I've never seen this type of tree before. What is it?" They stay silent as if to see that you're serious. "Oak," Dagur answers suspiciously. "They are quite common. Grow on most islands. How is it that you've never come across one before?" Vigo inquired. "Let's just say that I'm extremely used to being locked up," you say, thinking of how you early go outside, "I wasn't ever exactly allowed to leave the caves."

"Wait a minute. So you've never been outside before?" You hear Dagur say, disbelief in his voice. "Well I wouldn't say never. I did go out on occasion, but I eventually got to the point where I didn't want to leave. Why leave when you have everything you could ever need to be happy?" you say, "As you can tell, I could easily escape and go about my day, but I don't. You know why? Because being locked away is all I've ever known. I don't know how to be free. I choose to stay a prisoner. It's the same idea as in the caves. It's just another cage."

They left your line of sight and started walking back towards the camp. But just because you couldn't see them doesn't mean that you can't hear them. Your dragon hearing gives you the ability to hear them perfectly clearly. "Strange that she's never been outside before," you hear Dagur say. "Yes," Vigo agrees, "It would be a shame if she managed to harm herself due to her curiosity. We do need her alive in order to get the information about the Dragon Eye." You hear Dagur let out a weird laugh. "Yeah. We're practically going to need someone to watch her 24/7," he jokes. Vigo mumbles something to himself before continuing to talk to Dagur, "I'm sure you wouldn't mind doing it? No objections? Good," and with that he walks away. "Wha-" you hear Dagur start followed by him grumbling to himself. You hear footsteps coming toward you.

Still holding the branch, you drop down into the cage. As soon as you land Dagur walks through the trees with a scowl on his face. "So you're my babysitter?" you say. It wasn't a question. It was a fact. He was given the job of watching you. "Yeah," he says, "Wait. You could hear us?" he yells. You shrug your shoulders. "Dragon hearing," you say simply. He tried not to yell after that. He failed, but he tried.
