Chapter 7
[Aria's pov | Kakashi's humble abode]
The first thing I noticed about the place was the dog smell. It was clear that he had more than one, the smell wouldn't be nearly as overpowering if he were only keeping one. I coughed a little, my nose adjusting quickly. In my arms, Canterbury sneezed. I looked down at him with concern. Can pigs be allergic to dogs?
"Your pig is housebroken... right?" Kakashi asked, looking down at me as I inspected his entryway. "He knows how to operate a toilet." I said in an empty tone, looking up at him. He nodded slowly. "So... yes?" He asked. I nodded in response. Kakashi smiled, "Good."
Kakashi's house was quite simple, and I liked it like that. It had a cozy feeling that made me feel safe. "So what do we need to paint on the walls?" Kakashi questioned. "A sigil." I said, looking around for a good place to put them. "Ah... right. Will they be big?" He asked as I looked around for something to carve with. I found a butter knife on the counter, which connected to the living room.
"I'll carve small ones." I started towards the nearest window. "Wait, what?" He asked as I got on the ground, beginning to carve under the sill. "I'm fixing it." I said. Kakashi opened his mouth to say something, but ended up closing it again. I ignored him, carving the small design quickly. I had done it many times before, only that time I had Gaara helping me. We had searched in many, many books, and tried out multiple sigils before finding one that operated correctly.
Kakashi trailed around me as I moved through the house, Canterbury following close by my side. I scratched a few into the insides of door frames, and two on the front door. There were a few others I did, experimental ones. I knew they probably wouldn't work. A lot of sigils aren't real, even if the book is really old.
"What about you? How will you go outside?" Kakashi questioned. I shrugged, looking down at my hands. I looked to the kitchen, and a harsh idea came to mind. I bit my lip, looking up at Kakashi. He raised his only visible eyebrow. "I... I don't know." I shook my head. "What is it, Aria?" He questioned softly, crouching down.
My eyes wandered to the kitchen again, and I looked down at Canterbury. He could tell what I was thinking, and I knew it. But it was the only way! I know it's not safe, or a really good idea, but I have to... it's the only way! I couldn't live with myself if something happened to Kakashi, or his home. He's been so kind to me, and so has the Hokage. They're letting me stay here. They're giving me a home.
I darted past a confused Kakashi, banging through drawers until I found what I needed. It was a small steak knife, and it was sharp too. I plopped down on the ground, taking a deep breath. "Aria, what're you-" He was cut off when I put the blade to my thigh. I took a few calming breaths. I would need to cut need if I wanted it to scar enough to last.
"Aria no!" He rushed over as I began carving. Canterbury stood in his way, but Kakashi moved him easily, sliding the pig out of the way with his foot as not to hurt him. I ignored him, continuing my carving. I let out a whimper, tears leaking from my eyes. "Aria, give me the knife." He said. I paused, ripping out my headphone cord.
Kakashi stared in horror as I opened my mouth. "Our hearts were never broken" I put as much power as I could into it, but it wasn't much. It was enough to send Kakashi stumbling back. I closed my mouth, speeding up the carving before he could recover. Kakashi regained his balance, rushing towards my shaking form. I removed the knife, shaking and crying.
"Aria, you didn't have to do that!" He gasped, plugging my headphones back in for me. "B-But I'm too young for a tattoo." I hiccuped, looking up at him with watery eyes. He looked panicked, clearly not knowing what to do. "Uh, okay, okay lets get you cleaned up. We'll have to take you to the hospital tomorrow." He said, picking me up. Blood dribbled onto the light gray linoleum floor.
I smiled shakily. I did it... Gaara would be so proud, right?
Right?
