Chapter 3
[Third person pov | Konoha's hospital]
"What are we going to do with her? Surely we aren't going to send her back out into the wilderness with only a piglet." Kakashi said, slightly alarmed. "Of course no, Kakashi!" The Hokage exclaimed, "We're ninja, not savages!"
Kakashi sweat dropped, feeling slightly idiotic yet relieved nonetheless. But that still left the question of what they were to do with the odd child. "We could try putting her in the orphanage." The Hokage suggested.
Kakashi paled at the thought. There were to many things that could go wrong. For one thing, she could accidentally hurt someone with her large reserves. Two, they didn't know what all she could do. The third and final thing is the fact that she could be bullies. She was after all, not the most normal girl out there.
"That isn't a good idea, sir." Kakashi said, "We don't know what she can do, and we don't know how the other children and caretakers would react to her."
"You present some good points, Kakashi. But we have nowhere else to put her, and we can't leave her on her own without knowing if she's a threat or not." The Hokage said. Kakashi furrowed his brows in thought, trying to think of all the options. However, his mind kept going to on idea in particular.
"I can take her." Kakashi blurted out. The Third's eyebrows shot up in surprise and question. "Kakashi, you do realize what you're saying, don't you?" The Hokage questioned, "This girl may begin to see you as a father, as you will have to act like one. Are you sure you're up to this? This is a lot of responsibility, and you're still so young."
"I know." Kakashi said seriously, "I can do this."
The Hokage looked into Kakashi's lone eye, his old, wise brown eyes searching for any traces of doubt. But as he suspected, he was blazing determination, determination he'd seen in Kakashi's eyes before. He certainly didn't want to get in the Hatake's way if he was going so dead set on it.
"Alright." The Hokage finally said after a minute. Kakashi brightened, glad the Hokage was allowing this. "However," The Hokage gave him a look, "you must buy her clothing, things to do, food, you must pay for her doctors appointments when she is sick, and you must teach her what she needs to do."
Kakashi nodded, listening intently to everything the Hokage said. He didn't know the first thing about caring for a child, but at least now he knew something. This wasn't going to be easy, but at least he had a bit of a head start.
"Alright." Kakashi said. "I'll get the adoption papers ready while you check her out then." The Hokage nodded, "Give her the news. Softly. We don't know her past, she may have lost her parents."
Nodding, Kakashi turned towards the door and opened it, stepping in. Aria was sitting up in bed, her headphones on her ears and a small smile on her face as she looked down at the sleeping piglet in her arms.
"Hey." Kakashi greeted. Her head shot, up, her face blank. However, you could see the surprise and the walls go up by the look in her eye. The girl stared at him, cowering back into her bed, slowly bringing the blankets to her chest as she clutched her pig.
She was a scared child, one who had been through something terrible. He could tell. Approaching slowly, he crouched down by her bedside. "Hello there." He greeted again, more softly this time. "Do you have any parents?" He questioned. She hesitantly and shyly shook her head, leaning away from him slightly.
"Well, Aria." Kakashi smiled before nodding to the pig to, "Canterbury. I've decided to adopt you to! We're going to be a family, and I'll act as your father, your guardian. I'm going to raise you, is that okay?"
Aria stared at the silver haired man, who she'd learned to be Kakashi. He wanted to be her... father? She didn't remember her father, the one she had before she fell from her home. That'd been a year ago, and she'd landed in a desert. She almost died, she really had. But she was saved, and she had made a friend only to be kicked out of the village of Suna. Her friend... she missed him.
Finally, with suspicion and doubt in her heart, she nodded. She wouldn't trust him yet, but she was going to give him a chance.
