I took a step towards him, but Papyrus held me back.
"NO! YOU MUSTN'T DISTURB HIM." He warns me, using his candle holder to tug on my gown. I sigh. How was I to escape? I didn't want to do it forcefully, I didn't need to either. But something, something about that beast made me want to stay. I couldn't pinpoint what it was, but I knew that their was only one thing keeping his soul from breaking. But what?
"Excuse me?" I say.
"YES Y/N?" Papyrus replies.
"Can you show me to my sleeping quarters?" I ask him politely. Papyrus nods.
"FOLLOW ME." He tells me, and hops down a hallway, with me right behind him. Back to my original thoughts . . . Was the b— Er, Asriel as much of beast on the inside as the outside? Or was the intimation only because . . . He was scared? But of what? Well, I am DETERMINED to find out.
The talking candle holder led me to a room that was fit for . . . A princess, you could say. The castle could seem like a paradise, but it was as much of a prison as the dungeons. I walked into the room, taking a seat on the four poster bed.
"Thank you Papyrus. Please tell Toriel and the others that I said good night to them." I tell him. He smiles.
"CAN DO PRI— I MEAN, Y/N." Papyrus corrects himself. I tilted my head in a confused manner.
"What were you gonna call me?" I ask. He scratches the back of his . . . head?
"I WAS GONNA CALL YOU 'PRINCESS', BECAUSE, Y-Y'KNOW! THIS IS A CASTLE, AND THIS ROOM IS FIT FOR A PRINCESS, AND WELL . . . YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL LIKE ONE TOO." Awe, that's cute. And he kinda read my mind too! A room fit for a princess, but I'm no princess.
"I'M SORRY ABOUT THAT SO I'LL JIST GO." I giggle at his awkwardness.
"Y'know Papyrus, you can call me that if you want. Everyone back at home already calls me by my name, or oftentimes they call me 'Beauty'." I inform him. His expression brightens up.
"REALLY?" He says. I nod, with a big smile on my face.
"OKAY THEN, PRINCESS." Papyrus laughs excitedly. I giggled again.
"Too bad my 'beauty' is the only reason Undyne wants to marry me." I grumble. Papyrus jumps onto the bedside table, lighting his candles to illuminate the dark room.
"WHOSE UNDYNE?" He asks.
"Undyne if our 'town hero', and also the captain of the Guard troupe there." I explain.
"SHE SOUNDS COOL! I WAS WANTED TO BE IN THE ROYAL GUARD BEFORE I WAS A CANDLE HOLDER!" Papyrus chirps. I raise an eyebrow.
"What were you even before, uh, this?" I motion to the candles.
"I WAS A SKELETON! AND A MIGHTY FINE CHEF, I MIGHT ADD." He says, going into a heroic pose.
"I bet you were!" I compliment.
"WHAT ELSE?"
"Huh?"
"I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT YOU! SO, WHAT ELSE?" Papyrus clarifies. I took off my shoes and tucked myself into the sheets.
"Well, there's my dad Sans, and then the Muffet, the baker's daughter. And also Mettaton! He puts plays on in the center of the village. And my good friend Alphys!" Papyrus shivers at the name.
"Do you know her?" I ask out of curiosity. He shakes his head.
"NO, BUT THAT SOUNDS LIKE THE NAME OF THE WICH THAT CURSED US TO BE LIKE THIS." The candle holder says. I nod understandingly.
"Oh-kay then . . . Anyways, she works at the library! Which is my favorite place to be, because I read so much. I'm currently reading The Legends Of Dogamy And Dogaressa!" I say.
"SOUNDS COOL! YOU SHOULD GET SOME REST THOUGH, ITS GETTING PRETTY LATE." Papyrus notifies me. He blows out the candles on him and closes the curtains. I close my eyes.
"G'night Papyrus . . ." I mumble, falling asleep.
"GOOD NIGHT PRINCESS." Was the last thing I heard before I fell into complete slumber.
