Prologue

There was once a pair of brothers who lived with their mother in a beautiful castle. The mother and sons loved each other very much.
But one day the mother grew sick, and eventually died of the sickness.
Her sons didn't want to go on without her, so they studied alchemy so they could try to bring her back.
They tried, but the thing they created was not her. It wasn't even human.
The younger brother was cursed to be a suit of armor, unable to eat, drink, sleep, or feel.
The older brother was turned into a beast, and lost his right arm to save his little brother from death. He lost his left leg in the process of bringing their mother back as well.
That is their punishment for committing the ultimate taboo, and they remain in their castle.
The servants were changed in process as well, and now only one thing can break the curse that settles there.
True love.

"(Y/n), do you think Granny's okay? She's been gone a few hours, and she said she would call us when she got there." Winry's worried gaze stared blankly out the window. She couldn't focus on the auto mail in front of her at the moment, anxiety was building.
Your (e/c) orbs followed her gaze to the outdoors, and you gave a long sigh.
"I'm sure she's fine. She took Den with her, and we know he can protect her from almost anything," you reassured her.
Winry shook her head slightly, trying to snap herself out of it.
"You're right, she's probably fine. I'm probably just worrying over nothing," she muttered.
There was a long silence as both of you continued working. Suddenly you realized you had completely forgotten to go get food from the store, seeing as the fridge was running low.
"Frick," you muttered. "We were supposed to go get food today!"
"Then why don't you just go get some now?" Winry questioned.
"Because I don't like going to the store alone. Everyone always gives me weird looks cause I read while I shop."
"Well, it is rather difficult to read and shop at the same time," Winry inputted, still focused on her work.
"It's called multitasking! And it's not my fault the book I'm reading is so much more interesting than what's going on around me!" You shouted back.
Winry chuckled a bit.
"Bookworm."
"Automail junkie," you retorted.
"Can you just go get food?" Winry asked gently, chuckling slightly.
You gave a long, exaggerated groan, sauntering over to your stack of books-in-the-process-of-being-read and picking them up.
"Fine." You started making your way to the door, before you heard something.
Barking. Den's barking.
Peering out the window, you saw the Rockbell family dog approaching the house. But that wasn't what surprised you.
Den was alone. Aunt Pinako was nowhere to be seen.
"Den?" Winry stood up and followed you, going outside.
"Den? Where's Aunt Pinako?" You asked the black and white dog.
Den barked, then spun in a circle and started running toward the path Pinako had taken when she had left that morning to bring her automail to the next town. He was signaling for you both to follow him.
"We need to follow him, grab your jacket. Something must have happened to Granny!" Winry commanded, running back inside.
You did as Winry told you. Both of you ran after Den as if your life depended on it.
If something had happened to Aunt Pinako, both of you would be devastated.
She was the only blood-family Winry had left, and she treated you like you were one of her own grand children as well.
You had to repay the kindness she had shown you, and find her.
Quickly.
