Chapter 19-Marriage
You looked yourself up and down in the mirror, the white dress that adorned you sparkled in the sunlight coming in through the window. It was a long, flowing dress, intricate designs constructed by beading decorating it. The veil on your head had a ring of white flowers as its base, with long see-through white fabric going down to your waist. A bouquet of white flowers was in your hands, matching the rest of your outfit. Your hair was brushed back into an complex style, your bangs pulled back away from your face.
You looked absolutely beautiful.
"Well, is being in a wedding dress everything you thought it would be?" Winry asked, her bride's maid dress following the white theme of your own dress, in a slightly less detailed style.
"Yeah, it feels a bit different to be the bride than just a bride's maid. Now the roles are reversed, huh?" You joked.
Winry smiled, seeming to sense your nervous anticipation.
"You're really excited, aren't you?"
You took a deep breath, visibly trying to calm yourself down.
"Yeah, a bit nervous too. It'll all be worth it in the end, though."
"You looking forward to seeing Alphonse after your twenty four hours of not seeing each other?" Winry asked.
"I never understood that tradition. Why is it considered bad luck, anyways?" You asked.
Winry shrugged.
"But yes, I'm looking forward to it. I bet Edward and the servants probably got him all spruced up and shiny. Like the night of the ball!" You said, rushing the last few words.
Winry hummed in affirmation.
"That seems like so long ago now, doesn't it?" You said, looking down in reminiscence.
"A lot has changed since then. Now I've got a kid," Winry chuckled.
At that moment, the door to the room opened a tad and a small, blonde boy ran in. Edwin immediately raced to his mother's arms.
"Speak of the devil," you grinned.
The door of the room opened a bit further to show Riza and Sheska in similar dresses to Winry's. Aunt Pinako's head appeared a little lower.
"All the preparations are ready, we're just waiting for you," said Riza.
Winry started leading her son towards the door.
"We can't have the ring-bearer being late, can we?" Winry smiled down at her son as they walked.
Edwin smiled back up at her without a moment's hesitation.
You watched the two go first, smiling and waiting patiently.
"You look really pretty in that dress, (Y/n)," Riza commented.
"Yep, Al is one lucky guy," Sheska added.
"Th-thanks guys," you stuttered.
"(Y/n), I'm leading you down the aisle, correct?" Pinako asked.
"Correct! You're the only person who it makes sense to, 'give me away'," you said.
As you walked out of the room towards the place everyone was gathered, you locked elbows with Pinako, having to move your arm down a bit due to her lack of height.
"By the way, (Y/n), I talked to Alphonse before I came over here," she whispered as you walked.
"Yeah? What did you tell him?" You asked.
"I told him, 'If you do anything to hurt (Y/n), I'll personally deconstruct your armor and use the metal to make automail,'" she replied.
You chuckled.
"That's sure to calm his nerves," you said sarcastically.
Before you knew it, you were at the entrance to the aisle. You could see everyone in there, just from peeking in, but no one had seen you yet. You couldn't yet see Alphonse at the front either, though you were certain he was there.
In front of you were Winry, the maid of honor, Edwin, the ring-bearer, and Elicia, who was no longer the four-year old you had originally met, having grown several years since that time. She was the flower girl.
As the minutes passed, you watched first Edwin go in with the rings, earning some audible 'Awwwww'ing. You had a mental picture of Edward looking at his son with pride from the front, since he was (obviously) the best man.
You saw Elicia look back and smile at you before going forward. As she walked, you clearly heard a familiar voice saying, "That's my little girl!"
There was a chorus of shushing after that, making you chuckle silently.
Winry quickly followed behind her as the maid of honor. By then, it was only you and Pinako left in the entrance to the aisle, with everyone else in their places.
"Well (Y/n), shall we go?" Pinako asked.
The music for your entrance started, and you nodded happily.
And with that, you stepped forward into the aisle.
All eyes were turned towards you. Your gaze darted around to look at all the familiar faces, resting on the one staring at you from the front. Alphonse did in fact look as shiny as you had imagined he would, and was wearing a black bowtie and his signature blue apron. Your (e/c) eyes locked with Al's glowing red ones, causing his gray metallic face to tint a slight shade of pink.
Your smile grew a little bigger.
When you reached the altar, the music stopped and Pinako let go of your arm, leaving you to sit in the front row.
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to witness the union of Alphonse Elric and (Y/n) (L/n)," the familiar person in front of you two began in a loud voice, moving his arms as he spoke.
Why Alex Louis Armstrong had ended up being the one to wed you two you would never know. But somehow it seemed fitting.
Alex continued for a while, talking about each of you a bit, before he got to the important part.
"As of this day, these two shall become husband and wife. They will rely on each other for support, showing patience and kindness to each other through the good times and the bad, being honest with one another," he continued for a while in a similar matter, before eventually saying, "And now for the vows."
At this, he turned to Alphonse.
"Do you, Alphonse, take this woman, (Y/n), to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, for as long as you both shall live?"
"I do," Al said. You could hear the smile in his voice, even if it wasn't visible.
Alex turned to you next, grinning.
"And do you, (Y/n), take this man, Alphonse, to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, for as long as you both shall live?"
"I do," you said with not a second of hesitation.
"May we have the rings please?" Alex said.
Edwin walked forward, holding up the pillow that the rings were on. Alphonse bent down a bit to grab the ring he would give you, Edwin barely reach the height of his knee.
The adorable sight did nothing to stop your anticipation of what was to come.
You reached down and took the ring you were to place on Al's larger hand. It was customized to a size that would fit perfectly for him.
Alphonse took hold of your hand and, ever so gently, slid the ring onto your finger. Your cheeks involuntarily increased in temperature. Certainly wasn't the first time.
You took hold of Al's hand and put the ring on his finger the same way he had done for you. You smiled shyly up at him.
"I now pronounce you, husband and wife," Alex said. "You may kiss the bride!"
Al and you looked at each other. He carefully placed his hands on your hips, while you put your hands on his shoulders. He leaned down, you leaned forward to have your lips meet where his would be.
As you stayed there for several seconds, the crowd erupted into applause. When you broke apart, you both turned to see everyone standing and clapping happily.
You smiled and waved shyly.
Alex said some closing remarks, which neither you nor Al really payed attention to. You were too focused on holding each other's hands. When Alex finally finished talking, you and Alphonse walked down the aisle together, hand in hand.
Everyone followed after you, you two leading the way to the after-party in the castle's ballroom.
In the ballroom, tables were set up to the sides of the room, with one overlooking the entire room. Perfect for the dancing that was sure to happen.
Once everyone was seated in their assigned spots and had settled down a little, Alphonse stood and held out his hand to you.
Knowing what he was asking without needing to hear the words, you stood and took his hand.
As he led you out to the dancefloor for your first dance as husband and wife, he looked back at you.
"You look really pretty by the way. I haven't really gotten to say anything about it because every time we get a chance to talk alone, someone comes up and congratulates us," he whispered.
"Thanks, you look pretty sharp yourself," you chuckled, "Darn people interrupting the bride and groom to congratulate them!"
As you reached the center of the dance floor, Alphonse pulled you close to him and into the usual dancing position, which both of you were quite familiar with by now. He looked around a little nervously as the music started.
"What's wrong?" You whispered.
"Th-there's just so many people staring at us," Al mumbled.
"Hey," you said, causing him to look directly at you. "None of them matter right now. Just act like it's only us here. It's a lot more romantic that way," you winked.
Alphonse blushed, but became a bit less tense. The rest of the song, you two only looked at each other, you weren't aware of anyone else in the room.
Nothing else mattered to you two.
When the music stopped, you both stayed where you were. The applause of everyone around you eventually snapped you out of it.
"Hey look, the song's over," you commented, earning laughter from the people around you.
You went back to your seats as food was served to everyone who wanted it. You and Alphonse conversed with the people at the main table, laughing together occasionally. After about ten minutes of this, Edward stood from his seat at the table and tapped his fork on his glass lightly to get everyone's attention.
Time for the best man's speech.
"Hello everybody," Ed started. Silence filled the room, conversation dying away.
"Feels a little weird to be the one giving the speech rather than listening to it. A good weird, of course. It's not like I didn't expect to give it, Al and (Y/n) were bound to tie the knot eventually," everyone chuckled, "and I can honestly say I'm really proud of my little brother. To end up with someone like (Y/n), beautiful, kind, smart, etcetera, is an accomplishment in itself. To do so being stuck without a body is even more amazing. You're one lucky guy, Alphonse, so you better treat her well. I doubt she'll throw a wrench at you like Win-" Winry punched him lightly in the arm, "I'm just kidding!"
He paused for a few seconds, waiting for the uproar of laughter to finish.
"But seriously, welcome to the family, (Y/n). To the couple," Ed raised his glass, and everyone else did the same.
"May their days be filled with happiness, love, and probably some cats that they brought in from the rain."
Everyone raised their glasses and drank happily.
After a few hours of dancing (which at one point you did with Edwin, who had to stand on his tiptoes to do so), talking, laughing, and sharing stories, it was time for something that you were very excited about. Throwing the mass of flowers to see who was going to get married next!
A bunch of anxious females stood behind you as you faced away from them, Al standing next to you. You glanced quickly behind you to see who was standing near who and grinned. You looked forward again and threw the bouquet into the air.
As it flew, you spun around to watch where it landed. The white flowers ended up in the hands of a surprised looking Riza. She quickly looked to her right to see a smirking Roy. Everyone seemed to, in sync, make an audible and suspicious 'Oooooo'.
"They're like a bunch of teenagers," you whispered to Alphonse.
"But you were hoping that would happen, too," he whispered back.
"And? I'm pretty sure whoever thought of the 'bouquet means marriage next' thing was just a mad shipper. It seems like a mad shipper sort of idea," you smiled at him.
***
Another hour passed, people went back to where they were sleeping, and everything settled down. You started to get tired, so you and Alphonse went back to your, now shared, room. Of course, he ended up carrying you bridal style there upon your request.
"Here we are," he said, pushing open the doors to the room, where one large bed was set near the center.
"It's big," you commented as Al set you down gently on the floor. You walked over to a dresser that was near the side of the room, searching through it and finding a t-shirt and shorts. They were a bit more comfortable for sleeping than a wedding dress was.
You reached for the zipper on your dress, only to realize you couldn't undo it by yourself.
"Alphonse," you said, glancing over at him. He had been staring at you and quickly averted his eyes when you looked over at him. "It's okay, you can look. I need some help with the zipper."
He walked over, helmet tinted pink, and helped you out of the dress. You put on the shirt and shorts, before turning to smile at him.
"Alright, now we can go lay on the bed!" You shouted, diving for the bed, your landing ruffling the blankets.
Al walked cautiously over to the bed and sat on the edge of it.
"U-um, what do we do now? I-I can't fall asleep, a-and," his blush increased, "I, c-can't, you know..."
You scooted closer, putting your head on his shoulder.
"I don't care about that. I just want you close to me, that's all," you smiled.
Slowly, you and Alphonse laid back on the bed together. You laid facing Alphonse, with him facing you. You scooted closer to him, pressing your head against his chest plate, closing the space between you.
Al hesitantly put his arms around your now curled up form.
"See," you whispered, "This is enough for me. You don't need a body to be loved."
Al's arms hugged you a little closer.
"You're right. You're always right about these kinds of things. Thanks (Y/n)."
You smiled, shifting to plant a kiss on his face.
"Goodnight, Alphonse Elric. I love you," you said, returning to your previous position.
"Goodnight, (Y/n) Elric. I love you, too."
You fell asleep with Alphonse holding you protectively, not changing from that position until morning, as newly-wed husband and wife.
THE END
(A/N- OH MY GOSH IT'S FINALLY DONE! I know this is up like a week and a half later than you all were expecting, BUT AT LEAST IT'S UP NOW! (That's what happens when you move and 11th grade, pardon my grammar, 11th grade is a verb now. Deal with it.)
The final part is officially here! When I originally thought of this idea, I thought it was too weird to put up on WattPad.
I'm glad I decided otherwise.
Now I can write that other Alphonse x Reader I've had the idea for! I'm probably going to try writing all of that before I post any of it up here so that you all can have regular updates, so it might be a while before that's up. But I'll be posting an update about it on here and in my Alphonse one-shots book when the first part is up. I have pretty much all of that story planned out, so that's good.
Oh yeah, Reader's going to be a bird-chimera for that. Hunted down (along with another chimera) by the military. Specifically the FullMetal Alchemist and his brother.
I hope you all want to read it now!
Thanks for sticking with this book for as long as you have! This is SmuggleMuffin, signing off!
(That sounded really cheesy. Dang it.)
But seriously, thanks for reading to the end! Bye!)
