Chapter 17 (Alternate)

Alphonse could hear the happy cheers of servants celebrating that they were human again in the halls from the library. He could hear their shouts, their laughter, even their singing. He would have joined them in their festivities, but something stopped him.

He was human again. His hands were human. His hair was human.

Heck, he could even feel his stomach grumbling.

He could hardly believe this was happening.

He felt overwhelmed.

Something about the library was helping to calm him down. Being with people in all the loud, joyful chaos would tire him out.

So he stayed there for a little while.

"I-I'm back," he said to himself quietly, voice laced with shock.

When he felt he had enough strength, he went to a bathroom located off of the library.

Slowly, he gathered the courage to look in the mirror.

He found a boy with short blonde hair staring back at him. The boy had golden eyes and a rather square jawline. (A/N- He looks like he does in Brotherhood. I know the story has kinda been going off of the original FMA, but MY FANFIC MY RULES.)

Alphonse let out a nervous laugh. He felt his laugh resonate in him. He was so used to just hearing his voice and not feeling it.

He laughed a bit louder, and felt even better. He started moving back towards the door to enter the library, when he heard a girl's voice softly singing. She sounded as though she was making up the tune and words of what she was singing as she went.

He opened the door slightly to see (Y/n) doing a little march, arms swinging, as she followed behind a little white kitten and improvised a song.

He chuckled softly.

You stopped in front of the library doors and took a deep breath, preparing yourself for what you were about to do. Taking a small step forward, you gathered up your courage and pushed the doors open.

Stepping in, you glanced around. You didn't see anyone. All that was there was shelves and shelves of books. Then you noticed one other thing.

A small, white, fluffy creature moved into your peripheral vision. You looked over at it to be met with small, adorable eyes.

"Spook!" You called out.

Spook came over to you and rubbed against your leg.

"Spook, do you know where Alphonse is?" You bent down and asked her.

The cat rubbed against your leg again, then started walking away. Since you didn't have any better ideas, you decided to follow her.

"Following a tiny kitten," you began to sing to a tune you made up as you went along quietly, "she's as small as a mitten, to find a gentle giant named Al," you struggled for words for a few seconds, "He's a real pal?"

You groaned to yourself and shrugged.

"That makes no sense but it rhymes I guess," you continued, "if I can't find him, then I'll be in a real mess."

You thought some more.

"This is a really stupid song, cause I'm making it up as I go along," you laughed as you sang.

"Nothing makes sense anymore, cause now I'm lookin' at the floor," you over dramatically looked down.

You heard the soft chuckle of a boy. You felt your face blush in embarrassment as you darted your gaze up in the direction it came from.

"S-sorry! I-I didn't know anyone was in here!" You apologized almost too quickly. You looked up to see a taller boy with short blonde hair and golden eyes. You absentmindedly noticed how pretty his eyes seemed, and you wondered why something about him seemed so familiar to you.

He didn't say anything, only continued to stare at you as you blushed like a tomato, smiling slightly.

"I-I was just looking for a seven foot tall suit of armor. M-makes an adorable clinking sound when he walks, has a voice that sounds really young and cute, likes cats. Oh, you probably know all this and don't want to hear me talk about it," you rambled.

'Why am I acting so nervous?' You thought.

"H-he, u-um, usually hangs out here with me. I-I'm (Y/n), by the way," you nervously held out your hand to him.

He continued to stare at you, a light pink dusting his face. It reminded you a bit of Alphonse.

You felt very awkward. Silence surrounded the two of you.

"(Y-Y/n)," he said in a voice you immediately recognized.

Your eyes widened, realizing who it was.

Alphonse had his body back.

"A-Alphonse?" You asked, taking a step towards him and lowering your hand.

"Y-yeah, I-I'm human again," he said, smiling at you.

"Y-you were always human to me," you smiled, moving forward and hugging him.

He wrapped his arms around you, returning the hug and pulling you close.

"How so?" He whispered.

"You always acted so kind, even when your brother was shouting at us in the beginning. You dealt with my craziness from the start, you know, talking to inanimate objects and all that. And, you kept me safe when we got attacked by wolves, and you made me feel so happy. A-and I was so upset when we had to go. I-" you choked, starting to tear up with happiness, "I'm just glad you're okay."

"But I didn't protect you completely from those wolves, you got injured. Remember?" Al replied.

"But if you hadn't been there I probably would have died. I-if it weren't for you, I," you cut off. You released from the hug and stepped away from him slightly.

"(Y/n)? What is it?" He asked.

You kept looking away, mentally preparing yourself for what you were about to tell him.

You felt him grab your hand, and your face went red. Your gaze slowly moved to look into his eyes. He was closer than you had expected.

"(Y/n), please just tell me what you're thinking."

You kept looking at him, and you felt your heart racing. Finally, you said what you had wanted to for so long.

"Alphonse," you began slowly, "you're kind, and gentle, and smart, and every small gesture of kindness you do makes my heart race, and I just want to, to have you close to me," you felt your cheeks grow progressively more red. "I-I guess what I'm trying to say is, A-Alphonse, I," you took one more deep breath.

"I love you."

Al's eyes widened slightly, then relaxed and pulled you into another hug.

"(Y/n), I love you, too."

Your eyes widened now, but then relaxed as you leaned against his chest. He felt so warm.

It was comforting.

You felt him pull back slightly, and you opened your eyes and looked at him in confusion.

He was slowly leaning forward as he moved his hands down to your waist. You moved your hands so the were over his shoulders, then in his hair.

The kiss was soft and gentle, just like Al had always been. But it was full of passion, too. It made the butterflies in your stomach flutter. It made your heart melt.

This was how it was meant to be.

After what felt like ages, you two slowly broke apart for air. You hadn't noticed it before, but you were now against the bookshelf, Alphonse in front of you. None of the blush disappeared from your cheeks.

"Th-that was," you looked down, "r-really nice."

"Y-yeah," he responded. "D-do you care if we, d-do that often?"

You laughed lightly.

"Of course not, Al," you leaned your head on his shoulder. "That's what couples are supposed to do."

"So, we are officially a couple?" He asked happily.

"Yep," you smiled.

"Are Edward and Winry a couple, too?"

"Sure are, they're the ones who broke whatever spell was over the castle, weren't they?"

Al laughed, holding you close. You two remained that way for a while, just enjoying each other's company. As time went on, he eventually asked a question.

"Should we go tell them the good news?"

"Yeah, let's go," you smiled.

Alphonse quickly picked you up bridal style, earning a surprised squeak from you.

"A-Al!" You yelped.

"What, I thought you'd like being carried?"

"W-well I do, but," you snuggled into him, "give me some warning next time, please."

He laughed, and you should feel his chest vibrate as he did so. You cuddled further into him as he started walking towards the library doors.

"Love you, Al."

"Love you too, (Y/n)."

(A/N- It's not as good as the original, but SOME OF YOU ASKED FOR THIS.

Also, it was pretty fun to write. I told people I would do this, and I finally got off of my lazy butt and did.

Before anyone asks, NO I WILL NOT WRITE ALTERNATE VERSIONS OF THE OTHER TWO CHAPTERS THAT TOOK PLACE AFTER THIS ONE SO AL HAS HIS BODY BACK IN THEM.

Just use your imagination, please. I have other ideas I want to write.

Plus that other ongoing Alphonse x reader (the chimera one) that I talked about has not been posted on WattPad yet, because it has literally two chapters so far.

Isn't eleventh grade great?

I've also been trying to do art and write some original stuff that I hope to one day turn into my own animated tv show. College is coming up, and I need some original stuff for my art portfolio (because art college is more interesting to me than regular college) and I will be going to Chicago for two weeks in the summer to do an early college thing there.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm a busy marshmallow who won't be able to provide weekly updates for her fanfic once she eventually posts it.

Also, I'm only showing my characters to people I know in real life for fear of art theft.

That way if they steal them I can hunt them down. (Just kidding.)

Just putting that here so I don't have to personally say no to people who ask.

Alright, I'm blabbering and if I let it go on any longer I'll start to talk about how great a game Undertale is (you all should go play it or watch someone play it, by the way). See, it's already happened.

See you all later or something!)
