Chapter 19 : Never felt so Useless

POV 3rd

They got there just as the ambulance pulled in. They ran to see if it was really them. They couldn't see past the people tending to them. So they tried to listen as best as they could when a doctor ran over to the bundle of people.

"What's wrong with her?"

"Head trauma, a cut on her side, and glass in her leg, stomach, and arms."

"What about the other one involved in the accident?"

"Was unresponsive when we got there, we were able to get him to respond in the ambulance, but he's not responding now."

"Okay, we're trained for this! Let's save these kids lives!"

They were out of hearing range and so Declan and Jordan could only sit and wait. They had already called Naomi's parents and Bennett's brother and sister, they were all on their way.

All Declan could do was sit and wait for the doctor to tell them something, but he couldn't help but think this was his fault. He was the one who told Bennett about her date and where they were at, he thought Bennett would go and tell her how he really feels and then everything would be good but maybe he shouldn't have told him. Maybe he was the reason why they were in the hospital now. Maybe it was all his fault. Declan could only think one thing, he should have kept his mouth closed.

Jordan was a mess. He kept pacing the waiting room, pulling on his hair so much that he may go bald at an early age. He couldn't help but think he could have told Naomi that he didn't like that she was going out on a date, that she shouldn't go. That he should have told her just how much he didn't like the idea of her out with another guy, but he kept his mouth closed. He craved to feel her kiss again, to see her smile, to hear her laughter. He had a sour taste in his mouth at the thought of his best friend and love of his life being in surgery.

Soon their families arrived and asked if there was an update. Jordan couldn't even look them in the eye as he shook his head.

Naomi's parents broke out crying and held onto each other for dear life. Bentley scowled at anyone who looked at him, not happy with the feeling he had in his chest.

It was hours before the doctor finally came to them in his white coat and clipboard, "Are any of you the parents of Naomi Lorraine?"

"Yes! Yes, that's us." Marisa stepped forward with her husband holding onto her.

"Hi I'm Dr. Wendell and I'll be taking care of your daughter." He gave them his hand to shake.

They shook his hand. He gave them a pitiful smile and went on to tell them the news about their daughter, "When she came in she had head trauma, glass in her, and cuts and bruises." They nodded for him to continue. He gave them a smile as he continued, "We were able to clean up all the glass and gave her stitches on her side and a couple other cuts, but she's alright now and you can visit her in an hour."

"Wait." Hank stopped the doctor before he could leave. "What about her head trauma?"

"We're motoring her right now, that's why you can visit her in an hour when we have finished getting what we need. We'll let you know when there's been a change." He smiled at them kindly before turning around and heading back to check up on her.

They all let out a breath but they still felt like there were a ton of bricks on their shoulders.

An hour passed and no news on Bennett but Naomi's parents were able to go visit her. Brennan had arrived thirty minutes later, eyes red and a mess with her clothes all out of place. Bentley came and wrapped his arms around her, shushing her sobs as he took her to go sit down.

Another half an hour passed before a doctor came asking, "Are the parents of Bennett Frazier here?"

Brennan stood up and shook her head walking to him, "No but I'm his older sister."

"Are our parents coming?"

"No." She shook her head.

The Doctor raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything, "I'm Dr. Lowin, I'll be taking care of your brother." He stuck his hand out for her to shake.

She took his hand nodding. He then went on to explain, "Your brother came in unresponsive with glass in his legs and arms, a gash from his lower back to mid back, and bruising." She nodded for him to continue. "We got him to respond but he's having trouble breathing on his own so we have something helping with that, we got rid of the glass and stitched up the gash. Now the rest is up to your brother."

"When can I see him?"

He smiled at her kindly, "In a couple of hours, we're still running tests. I'll let you know when you can see him or if there's any changes." She nodded and watched him walk away.

She didn't need to tell everyone what he just told her, they were all listening in. That ton of bricks just seemed to get heavier with the news. It felt like they were put in a tiny closet with no air vent.

Naomi's parents came back with tear stained faces and everyone was anticipating what they had to say. Marisa broke out into a smile and whispered, "She's going to be okay." though that ton of bricks was still there it lessened just enough that they could breath without feeling like their throat was going to close.

"Can I go see her?" Jordan asked.

They nodded and told him what room she was in. He ran after they told him the room. Someone yelled at him for running and he sped walked the rest of the way. His heart was beating out of his chest when he started opening the door.

His breath caught in his throat as soon as he saw her laying there hooked up to different machines, looking bruised and lifeless. He sat in the chair next to her bed and wrapped his hand around her's. "Hey." He whispered. He didn't get an answer. "You look really pretty." He muttered as his eyes misted over. "Can you wake up f-for me?" His voice broke and he let his tears run free. He sat there crying when he felt something squeeze his hand.

His head snapped up just in time to see those beautiful brown eyes looking around the room. Then everything snapped in a second.

"Where's Bennett?" She spoke. He didn't answer, he was too shocked to say anything. "Where's Bennett?! I need to see him!" She started pulling at the cords attached to her. Jordan got up and pushed the help button. "I need to see him!" She was crying as she tugged on them.

The Doctor from earlier came running in with a nurse by his side. "I need to see him!" She cried, grabbing onto the doctor. She was hysterical. She just kept yelling, "I need to see him!" until the doctor gave her a sedative. Jordan never felt so useless in his life then right now, watching her freak out and not being able to do anything.

"You did good pressing the button, press it again if she wakes up." The doctor patted him on the shoulder as he walked out.

It didn't matter though. All Jordan wanted was for her and his best friend to be okay.

He sat back down and took her hand in his. If all he could do was watch her until she woke up, then he was going to do just that.

Dr. Lowin came back with a smile on his face, "I have good news."

Brennan got up and walked to him. He continued when she stood in front of him, "He's doing much better. He's breathing on his own now and you can go visit him now." She thanked him and he told her which room to go to.

After she left the Doctor smiled at everyone else and walked away. That ton of bricks was lifted and basically gone with the news.

An hour passed before Brennan came back. They all looked at her. "He's doing good right now, but he's still asleep and they say he'll be waking up soon."

Everyone let out a breath and smiles filled the waiting room. Brennan looked around before asking no one in particular, "Where's Jordan?"

"He's still with Naomi, She had an episode when she woke up." Declan explained before looking at her. "Can I go see him?"

She nodded and told him the room. He nodded and walked away. The whole way to his room Declan could feel tears coming on. When he opened the door to Bennett's room he sucked in a breath.

He laid there in a white bed hooked up to machines and looking like he got beat up by a sumo wrestler. He cleared his throat and pulled a chair next to his bed. He watched his chest rise and fall, he listened to the beeping sound the machines made and let a tear fall. He wiped it away and sniffed.

"Are you crying?"

Declan's head snapped to Bennett and he watched him blink a couple times before looking at him. "No." Declan laughed. "I got something stuck in my eye."

Bennett raised an eyebrow before wincing, "Where's Naomi? How is she? Is she okay? Did-"

"Woah!" Declan chuckled. "Slow down, she's fine."

"Where is she?"

Declan smiled. He's hurt worse than her and he only cares about her well being. "She's in another room."

"Can I see her?" Bennett tried sitting up only to wince and lay back down.

"Does that answer your question?"

He rolled his eyes, fixing the blanket. "I just want to make sure she's okay." He muttered, looking at the wall.

"I know you do but get better first."

"But I need-" He choked. He tried breathing but he was having trouble getting air in. Declan jumped up and pushed the help button he doesn't know how many times.

They came rushing in and Declan backed away as they tried to help him. Bennett was shaking so much that the bed was shaking with him. Declan's eyes got wide. "You can't be in here." A nurse looked him in the eye. He nodded before leaving and ran to go tell Brennan.

When he told her she broke out crying and held onto him. He rubbed her back and tried shushing her sobs.

Dr. Lowin came back with a blank look on his face. Brennan let Declan go and yelled at the doctor, "You said he was better!"

"I know your hurting-"

"No you don't! You lied!"

The doctor sighed before speaking calmly, "I know you're hurting but please lower your voice. This is a hospital and there are other people here too." Brennan huffed but said nothing. With that he continued, "This happens sometimes, they get better before they get worse. We have him in intensive care right now and we'll let you know if there's any changes, okay?" Brennan nodded holding onto herself. "We're doing everything we can." He gave her a small smile before walking away.

With that everyone was quiet and sat, waiting. That ton of bricks was back and heavier than before.

Jordan sat crying holding onto Naomi's hand, "I love you." was muttered into a room full of sobs and beeping. After those words were muttered her heart motor went wild. Jordan's head snapped to the heart motor and he turned to look at Naomi. He watched her eyes open before closing.

A smile broke out on his face that he couldn't wipe off, "I love you, Naomi.".

What are you feeling right now?

Grey's Anatomy helped me with this chapter. Guess what! My mom let me cut her hair! I did a pretty good job but my OCD made me anxious, she mainly has it up so you won't be able to see what I messed up. Plus what I messed up isn't that noticeable, I won't be a hair dresser in the future. If I was my mom I would go get it fixed when she can. Also my sister's dog had puppy's and we didn't know she pregnant until she was fat! She had the puppy's tho. Anyway's I'll be updating every weekend or other weekend from now on. That's all I have to say. Peace, I'm out✌
