Aline looked to Kilyna and she flinched before Aline went to staring at the wall and her face became stoic once again.

"Umm... Okay... that was definitely... odd." Cardi spoke, as Kilyna sat there for a second with a glare before snapping back to reality.

"Yeah. But anyway. The chip was quite dangerous, apparently re-programming the brain completely. From physical appearance-being hair and sometimes eye color- to mental heath- being how it changed their emotions and vital signs- it changed how the body functioned. 'Subjects would no longer eat, only drink.' Their stomachs worked off something different, though it doesn't say what. The chip in this case, with Aline, was implanted in her right shoulder. It says the computer chip mustn't be taken out, without another being put in, mainly because with them not eating for so long, their body would literally shut down and you wouldn't be able to bring them back. Though it does say, a seventy-five, twenty-five chance." Cardi stopped Kilyna with a hand.

"I'm guessing a 75 percent chance of death and a 25 percent chance at life." Kilyna tilted her head but nodded.

"As I was saying, after Aline, 75 Officials were implanted with the chip... and apparently none of them quite worked right, except for Aline's... so they discontinued it, although the research continued. Most researchers called it the "continuous black" or the "continual darkness". It says that this was because many side affects made the subjects eyes turn black, and they would lust for bloodshed. That's the reason the "cops" deployed at night, so that the "bloodlust Black eyes" wouldn't be able to be seen.  It says here, it gave them "continued strength and adrenaline". They were guessing that was also a side effect, though it was a good one, as that was the only good outcome of the chip." Aline sat there... one thought circling through her mind...

Broken... breaks... what if it breaks?

"What if it breaks?" Aline spoke out. Kilyna looked over before shrugging and looking back to the computer.

"Good questi-" Kilyna stopped as her hand hovered above her computer.

"Well, well, well.... I bet that's what happened to you..." Kilynas hand scrolled down the article she was reading and Cardi was waiting for her to continue.

"You were too smart to let them replace it... you played along..." Kilyna smiled, on the verge of tears as she put her hand over her mouth.

"What? What is it Kilyna?" Cardi ask, a little too desperately wanting answers. Surprisingly this had interested him more than he thought it would.

"It says that if the chip breaks, emotions can become more prominent. The "old" person inside has some control over certain emotions or bodily functions. It depended what part of the chip broke off. Many subjects were released or retired if the chip broke, or the chip was replaced by a new one. At some times, they would take out the chip completely and leave them for dead." Cardi pulled his eyebrows down.

"And what does that have to do with her?" Cardi pointed at Aline as he ask Kilyna and she looked at him incredulously.

"How can you not tell? Did you just hear her? She ask what happened when it breaks. Why else would she ask? And don't you think asking that would go against her programing?" Cardi's eyes widened.

"Oh, my God. No wonder you can show curiosity, and anger, and... and. Wow..." Aline still stared at the wall but her mouth twitched.

"You must help me. Take it out." She spoke quietly. Cardi was baffled that she was actually talking to him without being an ass. He felt like he was in a dream because he never knew how much the government at Oxygin had corrupted people. And one of the pieces of evidence to prove that was sitting right beside him. He felt curious and slightly afraid for her and her future.

"Aline? Okay. Okay we will don't worry." Kilyna spoke to her, hoping that it was the old Aline trying to speak.

"I know this has to exhaust you, so please we'll help, don't worry. Let me get some more information first." Aline's face fell again before Kilyna started again.

"Okay. We stopped at broken... ah, here. Many saw that those who's chips broke, disappeared. Some believe they left them for dead, others believe they were taken for more experiments. I see here many tried to remove them theirselves, most were failed attempts, that usually ended fatally. Though some attempts succeeded and some could leave Oxygin and disappear forever. It also says here some found that the chip was also a tracking devise... hence the reason if someone could overcome the chip and leave, they'd get dragged right back." Cardi nodded.

"So, what can break them?" Cardi ask and Kilyna nodded and held up a finger, saying "give me a minute".

"Here it says sometimes it's natural. Sometimes the blood flow is so strong and the chip is so fragile that it can destroy it." Kilyna spoke but Aline interrupted.

"No." Kilyna looked up at Aline's words and nodded before going on.

"Intense missions? A large jarring in the place that it's located in can also do it." Kilyna continued.

"No." Aline said, still staring at the wall. Her body had shut down due to the intense concentration she had to take to speak through the chip.

"I quote, 'Attempts made by self to take out the chip can cause damage to the Genomic-Impact-System. If this does occur, please seek medical attention. You will be able to tell the different in behavior from the subject.'"

Aline hummed as loud as she could, which almost went unheard.

"You tried to take it out yourself?! Obviously that can kill you!" Cardi whisper-yelled to her.

Aline tried looking over at Cardi but suddenly she choked out between breaths, and her eyes closed and she fell back to the couch. Her breathing slowing and her body relaxing. Cardi freaked and poked her cheek but no response.

"It's too much stress on her and her brain, she's passed out. Leave her be for now. You can stay here till she wakes." Kilyna offered and Cardi nodded.

"So lets go over what we know..." Kilyna nodded at Cardi's words and Cardi spoke again.

"The devise in Aline is a Genomic-Impact-System. It controls some bodily functions, but mainly the brains function. Aline's chip has broken, she's apparently cheated the system for as long as she could. Now we have to get it out to bring the old Aline back." Kilyna nodded.

   "Pretty much, yeah."

"Well, I think I'll let Aline sleep for a while. I'll stay up till she wakes and we'll go home. You can go ahead to bed." Cardi told Kilyna and she looked doubtful.

"And leave you alone in my house? Uh-no." Cardi rolled his eyes but smiled.

"Well can I use your computer?" Cardi ask and Kilyna looked hesitant, but nodded.

Aline's eyes opened and Cardi looked over to her before smiling.

"Welcome back from the dead." He chuckled and Aline looked around confused.

"What happened?" She ask quietly, the demeanor she had before had completely vanished.

"You passed out, now come on. We gotta get home." She nodded and stood up walking to the door while Cardi stayed back to speak to Kilyna.

"Thanks Kay. So just wait till she's asleep, give her some amnesia pills before she goes to bed, and cut it out. Wake her up immediately, she should be back to normal and give her some food as quick as possible. She'll be hungry... right?" Kilyna nodded and gave him the pills and told him what she liked to eat since she had lived with Aline for quite a while.

"Well, we'll see you later!" Cardi yelled behind him as he walked out the door, and Aline followed him and Kilyna closed the door behind them.

"Hmph. Calm before the storm... huh?"

     She whispered under her breath.
