Darkness was something humans had always been curious about. The darkness of night, darkness of emotions, the darkness behind tears, and of course the darkness behind actions. They experimented with the side affects of darkness. They made people believe things that weren't true. They've created their own world, and everyone has now become their pawn. This is the story of a woman who doesn't know what they have done to her. All she is forced to know is that darkness causes peace, and this is her story.

The sun was setting the distance, the pinks, purples and reds making the town look animated like a game with the best visuals possible. As people started to shout profanities in the distance, she shyly looks up from her phone. Her tears were glistening in the last strand of sunlight that was clinging onto life. She was on her small porch that overlooked the city. She was waiting for the darkness to fall upon it and stop their world from turning.

That was how she saw it at least, the citizens' world stopped turning and her's started. She wasn't part of the race of the people of the day but rather of the darkness. She kept herself away from the light acting as if it would turn her into a figureless monster if she stayed in it for too long. The light was a foreign thing to her now days, yet for others, it was the only time they had to be themselves, to be free. Once the night falls, everyone is the same... no one is separated from the next person. Everyone is owned by those who call themselves rulers.

What she enjoyed most was the night, it kept her sane. Her tears would always become unnoticeable, and the lack of her emotions was nothing to those who wondered about in the dark streets. She watched as the sun slowly slinked into the distance, and the darkness took over the city and all the bustle stopped suddenly.

That was her cue. She had to start her mission immediately or else she wouldn't have enough time to finish the job correctly. She needed all the time she could get. So she got up and walked into her house. She grabbed her gun, keys, wallet and badge. Walking out her door she pulled her hood over her head and attached her badge to her belt buckle. She then secured her most important possession to her face. She made her way down the stairs and onto the stagnant street below.

After walking down the street for a few short minutes she looked herself over in a nearby window to make sure she won't get killed tonight. That meant she had to make sure all her clothing looked pitch black in the night. She nodded slightly and started back on her way, walking off into the night as she passed neon signs. Most were stripper clubs, bars or something of that matter.

As she walked along the long abandoned street alleys, she found herself in a dream state. The darkness within was begging to be let out, but she wouldn't let it yet. She didn't have a client, and she didn't need to feel the urge to seek bloodshed right now. She looked down at the dimmed streets seeing if anyone was out and about around this time. When she saw no one, she continued on her way while glancing in shop windows and observing all the closed signs on the doors. The town was empty, to say the least, as the wind picked up and trash in the streets drifted off to somewhere unknown.

The town of Reminisce, as many called it, that was where she was heading. Many, many miles away, and only for a small job. Then she would wonder back home before dawn arises. It sounded so simple, yet dangerous in many's eyes.

Soon shuffling and groaning in the street in front of her made her attentive to every sound and movement. She lifted her head trying to hear the thing move about, and then a shuffling of feet neared her. Flinching her hand to her gun, ready to shoot at anyone who threatened her, she curiously looks down the street to see a few men and women shuffling out of a bar. Gunter's Place...

They started walking, more like stumbling, back home and thankfully not her way. She sighed lightly, settling her bunching bundle of nerves and started walking down the pathway to hell.

She had so long to go and she was already nervous. All her clients and jobs made her nervous. That was the one thing that the government couldn't take out of their perfect city, nervousness and hatred. That was the reason this place was so messed up because it struck fear in others around the world. Aline thought of leaving long ago, but never took the advantage of her families offer. One that would have gotten her out of her country and into somewhere "normal". Yet she believed nowhere was "normal". There was always something wrong at all times. Someone was getting shot and killed or captured every minute, no matter where you were on the earth.

So that was the reason she stayed here, it seemed as though she was so used to living here that nothing could change her ways of living. Even her job didn't bother her, and she let herself fall into a pit she can't climb out of. She trusted her corrupted government and willingly gave her life to them, and they took all she had greedily.

The street she traveled on was quiet except for the occasional helicopter that would pass above her head. For her it wasn't unusual to feel comfortable from the helicopters sound. Many had gotten so used to the government seeing over their town at night by taking flight above the clouds. They were making sure no one was breaking their laws and seeing that everyone was doing right by the law.

Aline turned a corner, taking in the street name and the design of the apartment buildings. That was the only exceptionally hard thing about her job. She had to remember where she went the night before, step by step, just in case some pesky agent showed up at her door asking what she did last night. Her black, heavy boots echoed against the street. Her city was one of the few towns that was still paved by stone. A man strolled by, and Aline looked his way. He had on all navy blue clothes, and Aline noticed flash of white under his hood, which was acceptable. So, she moved forward without a second glance.

She kept going, making sure everyone she saw was in the clear, they, being the same as everyone else. She looked at her phone in her pocket. 10:46.... good she thought. She had enough time to get there and back by 2:00 am and be able to sleep for a while.

She grabbed trash as she went, trying to clean the poor city she lived in. It was also something the government saw her doing, and therefore would probably give a little extra on her paycheck. She made sure the next alley was empty before walking down it, her boots still echoing against the stone and making it sound like forty people were coming down it. Yet it didn't bother her, the more people they thought were coming, the better. It meant they may think it's a government protocol and stay inside their houses with all their windows and doors locked, and if they don't do that, they make sure their wearing dark clothing.

So she continued on, a helicopter noisily passing above her. The war was imminent by now, her stupid president shooting off his mouth at an armed country. Though that didn't matter, the government would stay corrupt for good by now, and everyone knew that. So she ignored the helicopter's propellers and kept walking down the street. Once the light shined on her she took her badge off her belt buckle and held it high into the air, the light soon flashed green and continued on its way. She looked around again, then up to the sky. Stars littered the sky, the moon anew though, no light reflecting from it.

With a renewed confidence by looking at the beauty above, she kept going... it would take hours to get there if she stayed at this rate, so she found her way behind the towns buildings and began sprinting. Her internal directions told her the way to go, and her adrenaline kicked in. Her mission ahead became nothing as she lost herself in the night.
