And I lost you...For Ever

She waited for some news to come back to him, standing outside the door the whole time, not allowing her body a moment's rest.

The families had by now arrived at the hospital with panic assured over their faces, which had literally developed into horror.

Nayan had taken the courtesy to inform everyone of what had happened, and how Aarav and Kairav came to be hospitalised.

"Mrs Kapoor?" The Doctor's voice demanded.

Suhana stepped forward immediately, "Yes Doctor - how is Aarav and Kairav?" She pleaded to be informed.

The Doctor nodded with understanding, "Kairav is safe - for now, but Aarav  is deteriorating fast, his head has severe injuries and is suffering internal bleeding too, and if we don't operate on her fast enough, chances are he may not survive."

Suhana's heart sank, this was not the answer she'd hoped to hear!

How could she let this happen, it was her fault the whole thing, if only she had stopped Aarav from going there in the first place, he would have been fine! Her thoughts were disrupted by the Doctor, who hadn't quite finished with what he'd come to say.

"Mr Kapoor?" He said to gain Suhana p's attention once again.

"Ji Doctor."

"Mrs Kapoor has lost a lot of blood, and for now we are able to keep her condition stable, but we're in need of O Negative blood, if any members of your family's blood belongs to this group then please ask them to donate their blood to your husband Mrs Kapoor without further delay, as our hospital currently have access to a limited amount of this blood type."

"How much blood has my husband lost Doctor?!" Suhana gasped, "and I thought you said that he'"

The Doctor pat his shoulder in comfort, "we're trying our best here, and we'll appreciate if you could do the same. And Mrs, let me inform you that if Aarav loses too much blood at one point before the operation, and if he survives, he may slip into coma, so whatever we are to do, we must hurry" he warned.

"Bhabhi don't worry!" Nayan tried to comfort rushing over to Suhana after the Doctor's leave, "look at me Bhabhi I'm telling you not to worry, I'll find someone with O Negative blood; I promise! You just stay here and lookout for Bhai okay" she said reassuringly.

Suhana's mind was strained with tension, he fell back in defeat onto the uncomfortable plastic chairs kept in the hospital hallway. Her pain was visible, but unbearable. This was all her fault and she knew that!

Hours had passed the night into the morning, at times Kairav was stable, and at times her condition had worsened. She was under constant observation of nurses and doctors, many had rushed in and back out again, but no one had stopped to tell the status of Aarav's progress or if there had even been any at all.

While Aarav fought the battle of life and death behind those doors, all Aarav could remember was all the times he'd considered Suhana as the curse in his life, and even today it was all the same; just opposite.

Instead she'd come to terms that it was not he the curse in her life, but much rather the other way round, she had proved as the curse upon his life.

All she ever dreamt of was him being out of her life, but today when this so-called dream of her was near enough true, she'd realised that his life had breathed itself through her, and today while he was put upon a life support machine for survival, it was Suhana that had been suffocated from her life, she realised that her life under threat had meant that she too was dying with him.

When had she become so dependant on him, when was it that he let her become a part of her so easily and moreover when was it that she became a part of him. The whole year had gone astray in their life, but a single moment for her defined that living without Aarav was beyond impossible, and now that she knew, when would she tell him- would she even get a chance to tell him that she truly loved him!

Now Gopi was facing the claws of death all alone, and all he could do was sit outside and wait.

The fear of losing her had suddenly become his worst nightmare, as her condition turned more critical, so did Suhana's. The world's fear had been placed in him alone, he was able to witness hell on earth in these few hours, which was more then a lifetime of miseries put together.

Suddenly the lights had gone out, chaos overcame in the hospital, "what's happened?" Nayan too panicked. No one had felt the urgency to reply, but from what he'd gathered, it was clear that the operation had stopped midway, and staff were taking all precautions to keep consistent with the surgery and ordered for the generator to be powered up.

Not being able to stand the nonsense any longer, Suhana barged into the operation theatre and demanded to know what happened. She was told that wires had been short-circuited in the hospital somewhere and the electricity would take some time to recover.

"What kind of a pathetic hospital is this!" Suhana insulted without further ado.

"Mrs.Kapoor, please, we are fully aware of the situation, but let us do our best with what we have."

"But what about Aarav, will he'"

"Mrs.Kapoor, I can't say anything just yet, anything can happen-"

"What liability can you possibly provide in such conditions Doctor! My husband's condition is worsening and you dare to stand there and tell me anything can happen!" She protested in frustration, it hadn't taken long for her to turn aggressive, "if anything happens to my husband Doctor, I'll sue this goddamn hospital, do you hear ME!"

"Nayan, please" differed the Doctor, "nurse take this girl outside-oh no!" His tone had changed midway, something was wrong and Nayan's voice choked without having said anything.

Their conversation was interrupted by the bleeping sound of a dead heartbeat, and all attention was deterred at once.

"Wha'what happened?" She asked frightful of knowing the answer.

Nayan wasn't of any concern no longer, his presence was now being treated as absence, "what's happening?" She asked again, while a team of nurses rushed into the theatre, and ignoring the medics who had tried to haul her out of there without any luck. The light had shot back, but it went without notice by many including Nayan..

"Check the readings again" shouted a male voice.

"That's not possible!" replied a female nurse.

"Okay check the heart rate again! Nurse - Defibrillator's - charge by two hundred joules! Gel pads - position'" ordered the Doctor

"One, Two, Three, Four' wait for it. Come on Aarav."

Aarav's body jolted up with force, he'd opened his eyes for a split second, exhaled a deep breath and released "Suhana'" that trailed off weakly, and was gone again.

"Jump it up! Recharge! Let's go again - one, two, three, and four'" shouted the medics behind the green masks.

"Clear! Okay let's go again, one, two, three, four'" they hit again. Her body jolted up almost five times now, but no response came from Aarav, the Doctors' soon dropped their eyes in disappointment.

"Time of death: 08:46am. Name of deceased: Aarav Kapoor" said a male voice.

As the words hit Suhana's ears, she stood as lifeless as her Aarav had looked. Her heart refused to believe what she saw. "No'" her voice faltered, "NO!" She managed to shout this time, she charged forward and snatched the death certificate from the nurse and shredded it into fours. "he can't die without me telling him that I loved him" her voice shattered, on top of the single bleeping sound that taunted his ears. "he can't'"

Suhana rushed forwards, "you're not trying hard enough!" She shouted to the Doctor's, "he loves me, you hear that, he loves me, and he too wants to know that I love him, and for that he'll have to wake up!"

Her condition was no less then a mental state without room for improvement, she headed to Aarav and without a clue in the world, she placed her hands on his chest and began chest compressions randomly, hopelessly.

Tears dripped off the end of her nose, and onto her face, she didn't give in, she didn't know how to.

"Aarav you can't leave, not like this, I thought you loved me!" He said while pressing on her heart in pathetic attempt to save her. "I love you Aarav, I love you, I've finally realised that you're my life, and today you're the one to take my life away from me!" She shouted, "isn't my life worthy of your love anymore?!" She said pressing harder, "Wake UP god dammit!"

"No Bhai you can't leave me like this" shouted Nayan.
