She Waits

She waits
On the old sidewalk
In front of the school
As students walk by

For the boy
With the blue eyes
She kicks stones
To pass the time
And twiddles with her hair
While humming a soft tune

She sighs
When he is late
And begins to walk away
With a broken heart

A shout sounds behind her
And with a startled yelp
She turns
There he is
Running to catch her up
In his outstretched arms

His hands so strong
His arms so tan
His smile so bright
His spirit so broken

A car horn honks
His brown eyes widen
Her heart plummets
As blood splatters
Along the pavement
The blood of her boy

She screams
Her feet hit hard
As she runs
And her breath comes fast

He dies so suddenly
His soul forever gone
His heart un-beating
His body bruised
His spirit snuffed out
His love untouchable

So she waits
As she lays in her bed
For death to knock
She waits to see her boy

She waits for her last breath
To leave her chest
And for hope to come
For love to fill her
In the safest place of all;
His arms
