Chapter 1

Monkey D. Luffy sat up in his bed and stretched. “Ahh! That was a good sleep.” He ruffled his hair as he got out of bed and put on a red sweatshirt. He wondered about what he would do today. So far, this had been the best summer of his life. Everyday was a new adventure with his friends. Whether they were at the arcade, getting into fights, or just hanging out, he always had a good time. He decided to check his phone, but something caught him off guard.

3 new posts by love.cook, roronoa zoro, and captai…

It was pretty rare for Zoro to post on instagram, so he decided to check it out.

Zoro had posted a selfie of himself laying in bed with a hand covering his face.

The caption was: Not ready for school today

‘Eh?’ Luffy thought to himself as he scrolled down. Usopp had posted as well.

It was picture of a pair of shoes and the caption was: new shoes for a new year

Luffy began to panic as he opened the group chat he had with his friends.

Luffy: When does school start

Zoro: today

Usopp: lol luffy what

“Today?!” The best summer of Luffy’s life was over before he knew it.

It wasn't often that you would see the Chief of Police, Monkey D. Garp, happily whisking away at pancake mix this early in the morning. Nor would you ever see such a serious man humming at the same time. However, this was a special occasion. His beloved grandson had been accepted into Revolutionary University, and he couldn’t be more proud. Such an occasion called for celebratory pancakes. Too bad he wasn’t here to enjoy them.

“Hey old man. ‘Yaaawn’ Pancakes again? Sabo’s been gone for a week, you know.” The voice belonged to a scruffy looking, but handsome young man. Portgas D. Ace descended the staircase, while wearing only a pair of red pajama pants.

“Be grateful for the food I’m giving you, son.” For the past few months, Garp has been pretty short with him, and Ace knew exactly why. While Sabo was off at University, Ace was home trying to get his GED. That’s right, he had failed his senior year of high school. However, he was determined to get his GED in time for the next semester.

“Uh yeah thanks, Grandpa.” He muttered as he sat on the couch and turned the tv on. He didn’t want to get hit in the head so he decided to just let it go.

About thirty minutes later the pancakes were finally done. While humming, Garp set the fifth stack of pancakes on the table. Ace made his way over, while looking down at his phone.

“FOODS READY!!!” Garp roared as he put his apron away.

Ace dropped his phone to cover his ears. “Gah! Can you please warn me before you do that?! I’m surprised my eardrums haven’t imploded yet…”

“What’s that?!” Garp barked back at him, while rolling up his sleeve.

“Nothing nothing…” Ace mumbled and sat down at the table.

“FOOOOOOD!!!” Luffy screamed as he jumped down the flight of stairs. Within a second he was at the breakfast table and wolfing down his stack of pancakes.

“LUFFY!” Garp holored as he punched the back of his youngest grandson’s head.

“AH! What was that for?!” he yelled while holding his head.

“Just hold on a minute!” Garp took out his phone and searched for something on it. For the past week, Garp has been sending videos of them to Sabo. His logic was that he didn’t want Sabo to be homesick, but in reality Garp just really missed him. He wanted to call, but Sabo was six hours behind them.“Ah here it is!’ He pressed the record button and the video started.

“Sabo!” Luffy called.

“Hey there, son! We’re eating pancakes, your favorite!” Garp said, smiling.

Ace was getting annoyed and just wanted to eat. “Yeah for the fourth day in a row…”

“Hah?! Be grateful, boy!” He said as he punched him.

“Shishishi!” Luffy laughed at his brother, who received the same punishment as him.

Garp looked back at the phone. “Well we hope you have a great first day! You’re really making us proud! Hopefully Ace will catch up  soon…”

“Hey!” Ace called out angrily.

“Bye Sabo!!” Luffy said right before Garp finished recording. “Let’s eat!” Luffy resumed eating his pancakes as fast as he could. However, he felt tears begin to build in his eyes.

“Wha- Are you crying?!” Ace asked confused

Luffy sniffed as he continued stuffing his face. “Ah mish Shabo! (I miss Sabo)”

“Stop crying, Luffy! He’ll be back in a couple of months! At least you still have me!”

“eh.”

Ace grabbed Luffy’s neck and began shaking him. “Why you little-!”

“Ah! ACe I’m kiddin-GAh!” Luffy was struggling to get away.

“Sigh...Sabo really is a great kid.” Garp said right before wolfing down his own stack of pancakes.

Luffy rubbed his sore neck as he waited in front of Usopp's house. He really couldn’t believe that school was already starting.

“Hey Luffy!” Luffy turned to see his best friend Usopp running down his lawn.

“Usopp! Is there really school today?”

Usopp sighed. “Do you have any sense of time, luffy?” he questioned as they began walking.

“I could’ve sworn it was still June…”

Usopp laughed at his friend's stupidity. “Whatever man! I just can’t believe we’re starting highschool!”

“Eh. school is school.” Luffy replied while picking his nose.

“I’m telling you this is a completely different experience! Especially...well you know...”

“Huh?”

“You know!”

“Lunch is better?”

“No! The girls are! You know, they're older!”

“Eh? What are you, Sanji now? I don’t care about that stuff.” He said as he wiped his finger on Usopp's shoulder.

“EW GROSS-”

Most people would consider their senior year to be the most important year of their school career. Not only can it be a stressful time, but also an emotional one. It’s often your last opportunity to make memories with the friends you’ve made over the years, and your last chance to really enjoy youth without the pressures of being an adult. However, Boa Hancock was completely unconcerned with such things.

First days of school were always the same as any other day. Insignificant boys would try to talk to her, and girls would refuse to do so. Men only cared to know her body, while women only cared to spread rumors about her. School was where this happened most, and being a senior would make no difference. Despite having her family and a few people that she could talk to, Hancock truly felt alone in this world. As a result, she rarely met anyone that didn’t annoy her, and often took advantage of others without a second thought.

As Hancock walked out the door of her house and to her car, she glanced at her phone.

7:52

“I’m never on time for things anyway...” She mumbled as she began driving.

Just as Luffy and Ussop made it to the school parking lot, a familiar light pink mini cooper pulled into a parking space.

“Hey it’s Zoro!” Luffy called out while running towards the small car.

“Zoro!” Usopp repeated and did the same.

The green haired friend in question stood up and out of the passenger seat, and smirked at his younger friends. “Hey Luffy, Usopp!”

At the same time, A girl with long pink pony tails and a goth aesthetic made her way out of the driver's seat.

Usopp’s eye’s lit up when he saw her. “Perona! Did you see Soul Kings new MV?”

“Yes! The part where he started climbing up the beanstalk and ended up in purgatory was just-”

“Bone chilling?” Usopp said, finishing her sentence

“Haha yes!” She replied. They then began mimicking Soul King's dance from the music video.

“You guys are so lame.” Zoro said as he began heading for the school building.

“Hah?! At least we’re passionate about something other than...than-” Perona was at a loss for words.

“Getting lost!” Luffy finished for her. Zoro was annoyed but continued walking.

“Yeah! Oh hey Luffy!” Perona said as she ruffled his hair.

“Shishishi hey Rona!” He replied.

Perona was probably the only girl Luffy and Usopp talked to on a regular basis, and in a way she was like an older sister to them. However, that was mostly because she and Zoro live under the same roof.

“Ok have a great first day guys! The seniors are having a meeting before school, so I gotta go!” She said before running off.

As Luffy and Usopp entered the school building, Usopp suddenly felt a sense of dread wash over him. Just two feet away from them, a kid was getting beat up pretty bad by guys who were twice as big as them. Usopp had seen this time and time before and always knew what would happen. Before he could do anything, Luffy rushed up to one of the bigger guys with the intent to punch him right in the nose.

Usopp screamed internally as he debated whether he should run or hide. Just as Luffy’s hand was about to connect with the bully’s face, a girl with orange hair grabbed his arm. The bully's eyes narrowed at the two of them.

“Nami. Who is this kid?”

“I am so sorry Arlong! This is my...little cousin and he has this...disorder! It causes him to be very impulsive...Please forget about this!” She then began rushing away with the two boys.

“Eh? Let go! I’ve gotta go punch that guy!” Luffy told the girl as he broke away from her grasp.

“Are you crazy?! Do you see how big that guy is? That kid will be ok once he gives him his lunch money...you freshman don’t want to make him your enemy, you hear me?!”

While Luffy was annoyed, Usopp was beyond grateful for the orange haired girl. “Thank you for saving us!” He said as he bowed his head.

The girl smirked at them. “That’ll be five bucks each! Oh and I’m Nami.”

“EH?! You’re no better than that Arlong guy!” Usopp accused as he pointed a finger at her.

“Or I can just tell him that this kid isn’t actually my cousin…”

While both choices left Usopp feeling uneasy, he decided to go with the lesser of the two evils. He frowned as he reached into his pocket and grabbed his wallet.

“I don’t have any money.” Luffy stated matter of factly. Usopp had already anticipated this and took out a ten.

“Here.” He handed her the money. “I’m Usopp and this is Luffy.” Luffy waved and smiled.

“Luffy?” Nami repeated. “Are you Sabo’s little brother?!”

His eyes lit up at the sound of his older brother's name. “You know my big brother?”

“Yes! He tutored me last year! He mentioned your name from time to time. Ah I miss him.” Nami said dreamily while reminiscing about her freshman year. Just as she was about to say something else, the five minute warning bell began to ring. “Ah- Guess I’ll see you guys later, ok?”

“O...k” Usopp said suspiciously. While he was grateful for what she had done for them, he really didn't like giving up ten bucks. Luffy on the other hand, had completely forgotten being annoyed about her breaking up his fight and waved happily. “So what’s your first class?”

Luffy looked down at his schedule and beamed. “Hehe nothing!”

“What!?” Usopp grabbed his schedule and was suddenly annoyed. “Study hall?! So I have to be in math all by myself?!”

“I guess.” Luffy was just grateful he didn’t have to be in class for the time being. He and Usopp said their goodbye’s and settled for at least having Geography and P.E. together for today. Luffy made his way to the library and was surprised to see a sleeping Zoro there. “You have study hall too, Zoro?”

“Hah?! This is chemistry.” Zoro lifted his head and looked around. He was shocked to see that this was, in fact, not the chemistry lab. “Crap!” He grabbed his bag and rushed out, just as the first period bell rang.

It was customary for the seniors to have a meeting, first period on the first day of every month. They would discuss various things like their senior trip or college applications. However the senior class of this year has never really seen eye to eye on things. Nefertari Vivi was determined for her class to really bond and make the most of their last year together.

“Alright guys! Most of us are here, so why don’t we get started!" When no one responded, she took that as her cue to continue.

"First of all, let me just say that I am so proud of us for making it this far, and look forward to becoming better friends with each and everyone of you.” Vivi began. She tried to ignore the fact that most of her fellow seniors were either on their phones, or talking to the person next to them. “Alright so for today, I have three main things that I would like to discuss with you all-”

Vivi was abruptly cut off by whistling and laughing coming from Bellamy, Buggy, and a few other guys. It didn’t take long to figure out that Hancock had finally entered the room.

“Hey Hancock! We’re actually just getting started so-”

“Heyyy Hancock~” Bellamy jeered.

“That’s sexual harassment.” Kalifa warned.

“All I said was her name!”

“She’s right.” Hancock stood right in front of Bellamy and looked at him as if he were less than a flea. “The last thing that I would want is for my name to come out of the mouth of such a disgusting creature.”

“HA!” Buggy started laughing while his arm was around Alvida.

“O-ok guys! Let’s get back on topic-!” Vivi tried to get everyone to settle down. Hancock decided to sit next to Kalifa. It’s not that they were friends, but Kalifa is one of the few people in her class that she tolerates.

“Anyway! As you all know, it’s the job of the seniors to help the freshmen feel welcome, and to help any of them who have struggled in middle school. Fortunately, most of the freshmen this year have done exceptionally well in their academics. However, quite a few of them are still struggling in a subject or two. So if any of you are interested in tutoring a freshman this semester or even for the entire year, please sign up after the meeting.”

Vivi could already see that she was losing the interest of her peers, so she decided to bring up a topic that was a little more fun.

“Secondly, I wanted to discuss the designs of our senior t-shirts! We need to pick a color, and decide who our design team is! Anyone interested?” When no one rose their hand or even looked up from their phones, Vivi began to get discouraged once again. That is until a familiar voice volunteered.

“I guess I can do it.” Persona spoke up. Mostly, because she knew that no one else would do so.

“Yes Perona! That’s awesome! And I will definitely help you with that!” Vivi felt so relieved that she just wanted to end this meeting now. However, there was still one thing that she wanted to bring up.

“Lastly, I wanted to discuss relationships!” A few people looked up at her confused. “This is our last and most important year of school, so we should all really be focused on our academics… I was thinking that we could do a little challenge!”

People began murmuring amongst themselves as Vivi walked over to the whiteboard. In big letters she wrote ‘S.S.S’. “This stands for Single Senior Season! Since most of us are already single, we could see how many of us stay that way by the end of the year.”

A few of the guys started laughing and Buggy decided to speak up. “I’m sorry, but why would any of us want to do that? It’s obvious that you’re just salty over Ace breaking up with you last year.” His remark caused a few people to laugh and earned a few ‘OH’s’ as well.

Vivi’s eye twitched when she heard him, but decided to keep her composer. “It really will be beneficial to focus on our grades this year instead of a relationship. Plus we’ll grow closer as a class!” The seniors continued to laugh, and jeer at her. “And if anyone lasts that long, they can join me on my annual summer trip!”

The laughs died down after she said that last part. Even Hancock began to listen. Everyone knows that Vivi always goes on the most extravagant vacations, and a summer trip right before college would be really nice. “My dad already said that since we have such a small class, that all of you can go! But I thought I’d make it a little more interesting.” She finished with a smirk. “Oh and obviously Buggy and Alvida have already lost.”

“WhAt!” Buggy exclaimed while standing up. “Alvida, I’m breaking up with you!”

“Too late, Buggy~” Vivi sang. Buggy sighed as he sat back down, and put his arm back around an angry Alvida.

"So are you guys up for it?” Her classmates answered her with several ‘sure’s’ and ‘I guess’s’. “Great!” Vivi beamed.

She would be lying if she said that she wasn’t salty about her and Ace breaking up. But she truly wanted the best for each and every one of her classmates and hoped to bond with them this year. If she’s reelected, this will be her fourth year as class representative, and while no one else has ever run against her, Vivi has chosen to believe it’s because they all have faith in her.

“Alright that’s all for today! There’s still a bit of first period left, so just make your way to class, guys!” She waved and smiled as her classmates began exiting the room. A few of them signed up for tutoring a freshman before leaving.

As Hancock left the senior meeting she looked at her schedule.

‘Study Hall’

She suddenly felt grateful that she decided to take Chemistry last year. Having a study hall first period was going to be really nice. As she headed for the library, she ignored various senior guys that tried to talk to her, and looked forward to having some time before her next class.

However, when she entered the library, she saw something that disgusted her. Some boy was sitting in her favorite seat. She realized that he was probably a freshman, and decided to go easy on him.

“Excuse me?” She said in a cute voice. The boy looked up at her with a blank face. “That’s my seat.”

“Eh? I was here first!” He replied.

Hancock could not believe what she was hearing, and her cute expression suddenly turned into one of malice. “Get up.”

“Heck no! I happen to like this seat.” He snapped back, while crossing his arms.

“Do you know who I am?”

“No.”

Hancock was losing her patience. No male has ever spoken to her like this. “My name is Boa Hancock, and I’m giving you one more chance to get up, freshman.” She said as she pointed a finger at the boy.

“My name is Monkey D. Luffy. And I’m not getting up. Bah!” He stuck his tongue out and pulled at his eye, causing Hancock to gasp.

“You’ll regret this.” Hancock threatened before storming off. She found another seat and glared at Luffy with all the hatred that she could muster up.

Luffy wondered what her problem was, but ultimately decided that he didn’t really care. He just continued doing what he was doing before: drawing a robot.
