Chapter Eleven
Virgil stayed with Logan for nearly another hour before he realized that he hadn't told his mothers where he was going. His heart rate spiked as he realized that they must be terrified. After all, he seemingly disappeared for over twenty four hours. Virgil was pulled from his thoughts when he felt Logan shift in his arms. He looked down at the thin man, meeting his crystal blue eyes with his own dark brown ones. "Virgil, are you alright?" Logan asked softly. "Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine. I just realized that I need to be home soon." Logan's eyes widened as he gripped onto Virgil tighter. "Lo?" Virgil asked in concern. When Logan didn't answer, Virgil cupped his face lightly. "Hey, what's wrong?" Virgil asked in the softest voice he could manage. "I...I don't..." Logan attempted, choking on his words slightly. "It's okay, deep breaths. Take your time," Virgil cooed. Logan nodded, regulating his breathing before continuing.
"I don't feel safe being alone with myself right now."
Virgil froze. He wasn't sure what he had expected to come out of the man's mouth, but that certainly wasn't it. "Logan..." Virgil said softly. "I don't mean to be a bother," Logan whispered. "No, no, you're not at all. I just...I really need to go," Virgil explained. Logan paused for a moment, which did nothing to ease Virgil's anxiety. Finally, he spoke. "I understand. If it's not any trouble, could you get Roman or Patton before you leave? I'm...to be frank, rather frightened at the moment," Logan admitted, his voice almost eerily soft. "Yeah, of course. I'll be right back. Just sit here for a few minutes, okay?" Virgil responded, standing to leave once Logan nodded.
Virgil started down the hallway, looking for any sign of the other two roommates. Finally, he came to a slightly ajar door, revealing the sleeping form of one of the men. Virgil pushes open the door carefully, making his way over to the bed. He gently shook the man until he began to stir, mumbling nonsense. "Five more minutes, Pat," he grumbled. "Uh, actually Roman, it's Virgil." Roman was fully alert at those words. "Oh, Virgil. Hi. Is everything alright?" he asked as he brushed his fingers through his hair quickly. "Kind of. I need to go home but Logan said he doesn't feel safe alone right now. I'm sorry to wake you, but could you go sit with him? He's really freaked out," Virgil explained. Roman's expression saddened at the explanation. "Yeah, of course. I'll be out in a minute." Virgil nodded before leaving the room without another word.
As he entered the living room once more, Virgil's heart clenched. Logan was gripping his blanket tightly, his eyes glassy. Virgil sat next to him, leaving a small distance between them. "Hey Lo. Roman will be out here soon." Logan nodded. "Thank you Virgil," he whispered. Virgil just offered a soft smile in return, allowing the thin man to lean against him once more. A few minutes later, Roman entered the room, looking slightly more awake. "Hey, Specs. Heard you weren't feeling too hot," Roman said as he sat in Logan's other side. Logan didn't respond, just nodding softly. "I'm really sorry, Logan, but I have to go," Virgil said after a moment. "It's quite alright," Logan said softly, attempting to mask the sadness he was feeling. Virgil stared him for a moment before pulling out his phone. "Before I go, could I get your number? I really want to stay friends if you're cool with that," Virgil said. Logan looked at him with wide eyes before nodding, taking the phone and entering his contact information. When Virgil had his phone back, he stood to leave. "I'll text you soon," Virgil promised. Logan nodded wordlessly. Virgil hesitated before walking back to Logan and opening his arms for him, allowing the man to hug him tightly. "It's going to be okay, Lo. Everything is going to be just fine," Virgil assured. Logan pulled back, obviously rather embarrassed by his display of affection. "Thanks for everything, Roman. Let Patton know that the same goes for him," Virgil said as he stood again. "Thank you too, Virgil. I hope to see you around here again soon." Virgil nodded and gave a small two fingered salute before turning and finally leaving the apartment.
The walk home was refreshing, in Virgil's opinion. It gave him time to clear his mind and focus solely on the cool breeze surrounding him. He soon arrived home, relieved to see that nobody was waiting for him outside. He braved himself before opening his front door, stepping inside carefully. He listened closely for any sign of life when he heard a quiet sob come from his parents room. He all but sprinted in the direction of the sound. His heart broke as he caught sight of his parents holding each other tightly, his mother crying softly. "Mom? Mother?" Virgil asked, effectively breaking the silence. Both women's heads snapped up at their son's voice. "Oh my god, you're okay," his Mom said as she walked over to him quickly and pulled him into a fierce hug. "Don't ever do that again," his Mom whispered passionately in his ear. "What happened?" Virgil asked, although he was certain that he knew the answer. "W-we thought that he g-got you again or that he t-took you. You just disappeared and we didn't know what to think," his mother explained through her tears. Virgil watched her with a guilty expression. "I'm so sorry. I didn't think to tell you before I went with Logan and I ended up staying a lot longer than intended. I didn't mean to scare you," Virgil explained, his own eyes welling up slightly. He immediately moved forward and hugged his mother tightly, attempting to comfort her as best as he could. "I know you're an adult, but you can't...you can't just... not after..." Virgil's mother attempted to explain through her sobs. "I know, Mother. I should have told you." Virgil felt another pair of arms wrap around him from behind. "We just thought we lost you again. It was really scary, Virge," his Mom explained, her voice choking up from emotion.
"I'm not going anywhere, I can promise you that," Virgil stated as he leaned into his parents' embrace.
