"His mate. So take your fake ass and move the fuck away from him."

I didn't want to make a scene. I really didn't. But the way she clung to him as if trying to feel him up pissed me off. It took everything I had not to punch her in the face.

Her jaw dropping so fast and red face of embarrassment gave me a satisfaction that made me want to grin at that moment but Daniel's voice broke my moment of triumph.

"It's not what it looks like." He said his voice strong, not skipping a beat. My eyes snapped to his and suddenly I could feel all the anger melt away with just the look of pure honesty swirling in his eyes.

There was a warm feeling in my chest that was so light and airy. So soft and pure that filled my chest with a beautiful glow of comfort. With just one look, his eyes had the power to make me feel at peace even when I felt at war.

Gripping the claws that were attached to him in a death grip he quickly pulled them away from him. The fake ass stared at Danny with her jaw open as he approached me.

As he wrapped his hand in mine I couldn't help but smile as he gently guided me down the last step. Then as if it was the most natural thing in the world, his arm found its way around my shoulders in a side ways embrace as I welcomed it with a smile.

"Sophie, this is my cousin Brittany."

HIS COUSIN.

I felt the blood drain from my face as I heard those words leave his lips. Brittany's smirk made my stomach drop as if confirming.

Someone kill me now. Just do it. You've got to be kidding me. His cousin?! They don't even look alike! Cousins my ass. With a welcome that "familiar" I'd thought she was a past girlfriend. ....or a hooker.

"I'm sorry. Did you just say cousin?" I asked dumbstruck.

"Well duh. Did you not hear him? Or are you just stupid?" Her high pitched voice rang through the room and in that moment I actually wished murder was legal.

"Oh I did. I just didn't know how this," I gestures toward Danny with a smile, "ended up being related to something so........ Different." I ended gesturing to all of her. Regardless if I was his mate I couldn't disrespect his family......... No matter how much I wanted to.

Danny cut the tension with a small chuckle. "Brittany isn't my biological cousin. We found her, well I technically did, in the forest near the pack and my aunt decided to adopt her. I was seven when we found her. We did everything together."

As if remembering fond memories Danny's face began to flow with a certain childlike essence. My lips spread into a smile and when I looked up at Brittany she had the same look as if remembering something she would treasure forever. She looked innocent and kind with the way she stared at the ground.

"I was covered in mud, from head to toe, with tears streaming down my face as I tried to find my parents. I remember seeing you and wanting to hide because I wasn't allowed to talk to strangers. When you asked if I was lost I didn't know. I only knew my name." Her words were soft, light and completely different than the way she was speaking. It was as if a switch was flipped in her brain.

I felt a pang of sadness as I looked at her. But then it went away and as soon as she spoke again.

"We used to do everything together didn't we Danny?" Her tone was mocking as she slowly lifted her eyes to meet mine. Her lips formed into a smirk and in that instant I knew we weren't going to get along.

"I'm so glad to be back."

Oh fuck.

"Oh so that's why you told me you were the Beta."

"Of course Luna. I was not aware that you had already met our real Beta, Alex. It was more of a reflex when you had arrived near our border. I apologize for the confusion and take full responsibility."

"I usually keep decoys of my Beta and Gamma here at the pack house. We already have too many enemies, especially with the new territory we gained from the area we bought of your town." Danny had just finished introducing me to his leaders and their decoys. Sebastian was Alex's decoy when ever she left the pack house and Eric was Xavier's decoy when ever he left. Xavier being the Gamma.

"It was very nice to meet you all." I say as they turn to leave for their duties. They quickly all turn around in unison as if robots, bow slightly and say, "the pleasure was all ours Luna Sophie."

Then as if it was the most normal thing they turn and leave.

I'm stunned and turn my face to Danny with my eyes wide. "That was cool." I finish smiling. Danny chuckles at my expression.

"You'll get use to it."

It's been a few weeks from that day. The last time I would actually talk with Danny for more than a few minutes.

Brittany is constantly with him like gum at the bottom of a shoe. Every time I come over to the pack it's like she senses it and always has this sickly smile on her face which makes my nerves stand on edge.

I have never been more cautious with someone in my life. She's like a snake stalking her prey before she devours it.

I've gone back to school and so far senior year is dragging on. In most classes I just simply doodle or listen to music.

Every day I head to the pack house and every day I hear more and more worse things from those who live their about Brittany. They say she's constantly ordering people, yelling at the children and whining to Danny about the most childish things. Others say she keeps sleeping with different pack members and is trying to mess with couples who are already mated.

And frankly I've had enough.

So as I walk toward the pack house straight after school I can't help but yawn. The day had gone far from nice since the morning.

My alarm was not set so I ended up being late to my first class, I hadn't eaten breakfast, I fell asleep at 3am because I was restless and my backpack was dumped out when I walked out of math class because I hadn't zipped it shut. It was a shit day.

But the the sight of the pack house brings me a sense of happiness as I see it and with that I feel my spirit rise.

"Hey Alex." I greet with a smile on face.

"Hello Luna." She greets opening the door with a grin on her face. I've told her countless times to call me Sophie but she still refuses. I squint my eyes at her response but let it go only for the simple fact that today had not gone as planned.

"Is Danny here?" I ask setting my backpack down near the door.

"He's not here. He went to go speak and have a truce with one of our neighboring packs. It seems they didn't like the idea of our territory expanding." She sighs rubbing her forehead as she heads to the kitchen. I can feel the anguish and worry roll off her in waves and in mere seconds I'm already worry as well. I follow unsure of what to do.

"Do you know when he'll be back?" Uncertainty fills my voice.

With a simple shake of her head I could tell it would take a while. "You could wait in his office?" She offers unsure.

Smiling slightly I nod and she directs me to the end of the hallway.

There at the end, are dark chocolate double doors. Each side is decorated with a wolf staring at one another on each side. My eyes widen at the intricacy of each curve designed, the way it presented the power of each wolf, both standing proudly. My hands found its way to the handle and gently I pushed until I realized these were heavy doors.

Inside was beautiful. The walls on each side stacked from the top of the roof to the bottom with books of all kinds. Some leather, others cloth, of all different colors. Two couches were placed opposite of each other at the center of the room and a glass coffee table in between the two.

My eyes traveled to the desk which seemed almost similar to that of a CEO desk. Modern, of course, slick black with cabinets on the side. The chair seemed elegant although I wouldn't know because the person on it was taking most of the space. 

Brittany with black lace lingerie and black heels sat on the chair with a smirk on her face.

Oh how I wished murder was legal.

I'm a senior and I have had to apply to many scholarships and colleges these last few months so please bear with me!

I made this chapter super long which should make up for some of it!
