Beautiful Chaos
Beautiful Chaos
Riley's POV
As soon as I saw the doors open, I hyperventilated. The sorting, oh gosh. What if something go's wrong? What if I get into Slytherin? What if- The feel of a hand on my shoulder caused me to look behind me, and into the eyes of Kaitlin Hughes, my best friend. She looked at me with concern, but I flashed a quick smile and looked back ahead of me. We continued walking, until reaching the front of the Great Hall. After we lined up, Professor McGonnagal told us how this worked. I wasn't listening. It wasn't like I didn't want to, I did, but my nervousness overwhelmed me. I could throw up. But I couldn't , because I was being called to the front. I was the first one to get sorted.
Riley's POV
I walked up to the podium, sitting on the old stool. The Professor then placed the Hat on my head. Once again, could throw up. "Ah, what have we here? Quite nervous, are we? Don't be. Well, well, well, quite loyal. You would do well in Hufflepuff, if not for your mind. Quite sharp, if I do say so. So, better be, REVENCLAW!" I quickly removed the Hat, handing it to the Professor, and took a seat, happy to be out of the spotlight.
Kaitlin's POV
As soon as I heard the Professor call Riley up, my eyes darted to her. She was pretty pale, but was doing ok. Professor McGonnagal put the Sorting Hat onto her head, and, with a little time, sorted her into Ravenclaw. Which stinks. I would've liked for her to be in Gryffindor with me, but oh well. Someone named Luna Scamander went next. Ravenclaw. "Kaitlin Hughes", the professor called. I walked up to the Hat. Please be Gryffindor, please be Gryffindor, I thought in my head. I sat down, with the Professor placing it on my head. And, when it barely touched, "GRYFFINDOR". I got up, and walked to the Gryffindor table. Next was Gabe Stuart. Slytherin. Penelope Hutchins. Ravenclaw. Jeremy Black. Gryffindor. Brianna Lester. Hufflepuff. Steven Wescott. Slytherin. Next, get this, a Malfoy! Scorpius Malfoy, you'll never guess, Slytherin! Woah! Never could have guessed that! Next was Carlos Martinez. Hufflepuff. May Singer. Gryffindor. Landon Lowe. Ravenclaw. Samantha Collins. Gryffindor. And now, food time!
Riley's POV
My shock still hasn't worn off from when Kaitlin got into a different house. Gryffindor. Still ringing. I guess she always did want it. I just never thought about it too much. When the food came, I didn't want to eat it (although I know Kaitlin will dig in). A girl came , and sat by me. Luna Scemgender, I think? "Hello there", she said, "I'm Luna". "Hi, I'm Riley", I replied. "Do you mind if I have some Strawberry Spongecake?", Luna asked. "Nope, go ahead", I said. She got some onto her plate. But she stayed here. Don't ask me why, I don't know. She started talking about random things, like outer space, and how funny rabbits look. This is one strange girl, let me tell you.
Kaitlin's POV
When the time for eating was over, I walked sadly with the Gryffindor Prefect to the Common Room. Not only was I sad about not getting the same house as my best friend, but I can't eat until later! How rude. "Lightning Scar", the Prefect said, unlocking the Common Room. Wow. Bigness. Red, and yellow, and fireplace. Sweet. But get this- no food! That stinks. A lot. I went to the Girls Dorm, finding mine quickly. Sleep, sweet sleep, I was thinking as I unpacked. Only after I tried my bed, then I examined the others. Only two? Ok. "Hello, fellow sleeping buddies", I said. They kinda looked confused. They looked like they had never heard that sentence before. Weird. "Uh, hi?", I repeated. "Uh, hi...", one said. "HI", the other said, "I'm May! And I like ssuuuugggaaaarrrrrrrrr!!!!" Ok, I don't scare easily, so you know how crazy this one was. "I'm Kaitlin", I said. Someone should give me an award, for most plain and boring sentence ever. "I'm Samantha, but prefer Sam". " Hello". And with that, the day ended.
Riley's POV
This riddle was hard. For some people. ' What is more valuable then gold, but doesn't cost a penny? Hard to gain, but easy to lose?'. "A friend", I answered.Apparently Prefects don't expect a first year to get it right. We walked into the Common Room, and all I saw was Blue. That was because I dashed to the dorms. It took me a minute to figure out where mine was, but when I had, I got the fluffiest one. I've always liked sleeping. It's quiet. It's a little peaceful in here, so quiet. Then you could guess my surprise when Luna walked in. " Hello again", she said. "Hello". She made her way over to a bed, and started unpacking. Which was a lot, by the way. Did she really need a personal flower vase? Beats me. Then another girl walked in. "Hi, I'm Penelope," she exclaimed, " I like food, and rainbows, and cheese, and elephants!". Ok, now we know how she is. I glanced at my bed. Halfway asleep, I said, "I'm Riley". And then, I went into the wonderful world of sleeping.
Kaitlin's POV
So, I'm guessing you have seen the Lego Movie. Here is a remix. 'Everything is fo-od! Everything is food when you spend time with me! Everything is fo-od! If your living my dream!'. You like it? I do. So, I bet you are wondering why I am singing inside my head. Well, I can assure you it is NOT because I met a boy. Nope. Not gonna happ- ok yes I did! *insert girly giggle here*. Ok, so what if he's a Slytherin? Steven Wescott. I'll spare you the details. Let's just say... Hmm.... Let's just say that 1- I really like food. 2- I can be a little clumsy. 3- he walks to fast. See where this is going? I thought so. And so now I am eating my beloved food. And admiring my inspirational first impression.
Riley's POV
My best friend is an idiot. So, here I am, trying to have a conversation with her. And then, of course, she smells the food. So she takes off running. I tried yelling at her to slow down, there were people coming back inside. But noo. She curves around, trying to get the best entrance angle, and BAM. Runs into a Slytherin. And I'm like, wow. And she's like, sorry, but I got to go get food right now bye! And he's like, gerrofmeh! Quite the morning. So, being my polite self, I walk up, and help him up. "Sorry about her, she's a little, iffy.", I said honestly. "We'll tell her to watch it!", he replied snidely. And then, you know what he did? He walked, quite quickly, to the food area too. Wow. Just wow. I walked inside, taking a seat. Just as a boy- a cute one, too- walks inside. I watched him walk by, going to sit near that boy that got run into. I think his name was Steven. But this boys name was Gabe. "Uh, Riley, it's not polite to drool", Penelope pointed out. I quickly closed it. I could totally not imagine me drooling over a boy. But, I've never seen one like this. I looked down at my platter and took a bite of toast.oh, sweet Saturday. Almost as good as sleep. Almost.
Kaitlin's POV
Food, food, food! I'm in heaven! Let's see, no school, boys all around, and food! And, today is Quiddich tryouts! I've heard that since Harry Potter left school, they had made a training area, so First Years could try out. Perfect *insert evil laugh here*. I'm going for seeker! I can hear it now- Kaitlin Hughes, Gryffindor Seeker. I shoved one last bit of food down my throat, before getting up and walking to the Quiddich Field. When I got there, I saw Riley. I went for the shadows. Slowly, I crept behind her. And then- "BOO!", I yelled in her ear. I quickly covered my ears, right as she started screaming. By the time she stopped, everyone was looking at her, and where was I? Laughing my butt off, of course. And of course, there she was, glaring at me. The problem was, I have a contagious laugh. So there she goes, laughing HER butt off. I stop laughing, fading back into the shadows. Like a ninja. Or a Slytherin.
Riley's POV
"AHHHHH", I heard myself scream. I glared at her. How dare sh-. Oh crud. Her laugh is contagious. So guess what? "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA" I laughed. Now she stopped, leaving me to my laughing alone. Which drew more unwanted attention. If I weren't such a great friend, I would slap her. Actually, that's not a bad idea. I turned around, to be greeted by air. She was gone? She's done that before. I can't stand it. Then, get this, I saw Gabe in the stands. He was like, the only one not staring at me! I guess he was here to see the Gryffindor team get picked? Cunning. Well , I better take a seat too.
Gabes POV
Wow. Some freaky girls in this place. But how did that one disappear? We haven't learned those spells yet. And the other one. Also weird. I hope I don't end up like Steven. The guy got ran over, by a girl! A pretty small one, too. She was kinda cute, now that I think about it. I wonder if she'll try out for the team. She would be a great beater.
Stevens POV
Wow. I got ran over by a girl. But it was nice how that other girl apologized. She's kinda cute, not like I like her. Pff. That would be mental. Why would I like a sweet, nice, polite girl that's NOT a Gryffindor? Crazy. Well, time to watch the tryouts.
Kaitlin's POV
Ok. Quiddich time. Ok. Team captain is Trevor Yearner. Ok. I got this. Seeker time. I grabbed my Broom- Nimbus 2000- and walked up to register my role. For tryouts, of course. I can't wait! Or can I? I can't tell. Hmm. I leaned up against the Gryffindor stand, watching who was signing up. I saw Jeremy, a second year Gryffindor, sign up for Keeper. My eyes darted to the Slytherin stands. Hey, isn't that the boy I ran into, or rather, over. I narrowed my eyes. What was he looking at? I followed his gaze to see- get this- My best friend! And what was she doing, you ask? Reading. Typical Riley. A guy likes her, and she's reading. Quite the Ravenclaw, if you ask me. Ok. Time for the tryouts. I have to stay calm, fly good, and keep my eye out for the Snitch. I walked up, readying my broom. *Ten minutes later*. Final score- 160 to 70. I sneaked up to the stand behind Riley- again- and yelled. "THE POTATOES WILL EAT YOUR CHEESE!!!". Then it's the classic scream, laugh, laugh, disappear thing. Except for the disappear. I didn't feel like it. So instead, I said- "oh, and I got the part.".
Stevens POV
So, ms. Crazy got the Seeker part. Pretty good, for a first year. But I wasn't paying attention. I was to busy looking at her friend, ms. Reading. I don't think anyone saw me. I wouldn't care. Unless it was ms. crazy. That might be bad.
Riley's POV
"AHHHHH", I screamed. Then laughed. Then play slapped her. "Oh, and I got the part", she said, like it was no big deal. I honestly had been so into my book, I forgot to watch. Oops. I put my book away, and got up. We started walking back to the Great Hall, and I wondered 1- why was she not running for food? 2- she seemed uncertain, kinda jealous. Huh. Weird.
