Ahana's POV

It was a big opportunity for me and I can't lose it. I reached the school practice room and saw about 20 students.

Everyone was of different age, I smiled and introduced myself "I am Ahana"

They wished me "good Morning Mam" the kids were so innocent.

They don't know the sorrow, all they want is happiness. I smiled and said "for next one month I will be training you for the competition"

One of them said with disappointment "mam.. Every year we lose"

"But we can't give up till we win," I said, encouraging them.

They smiled and we started rehearsing for the competition. It was not a bad start, soon the rehearsals came to an end and I went out of the school with an overwhelming smile on my face.

There was a ray of hope that I would get this job. I reached my society and entered the house.

Manvi was sitting in the baby bathtub and playing in the water. I glanced at her with a smile and sat beside her. She was tapping the bubbly water with her hands and making giggling sounds.

"Ee.. aa."

She turned towards me, it seemed she realised my presence around her and then called "ma.. ma"

I kissed her forehead "yes baby"

I made her bath properly, I wanted to take her out of the water but she adamant. She cried when I pulled her out of the bathtub, I sighed and took her to the room.

I made her sit on the bed and she had an angry look. I took out her clothes from the wardrobe and made her wear them. GuruMaa entered the room and kept the food on the table.

I thanked her for taking care of Manvi in my absence. I then feed food to Manvi. She half-closed her eyes, it seemed she was feeling sleepy.

I made her lay on the bed and caressed her head lightly. She held my finger and started playing with it. I smiled at her antics. She was not sleeping, I sang a Lori for her.

Chandaniya chup jaana re

Chan bhar ko luk jaana re

Neendiya aankhon mein aaye

Bitiya meri so jaaye

Hmm...

After hearing it, she closed her eyes and slept peacefully. I lay down beside her securing her into my embrace.

I felt she was part of me. Now, I can't imagine going far away from her. I will make sure the world doesn't question our relationship.

As time passed by, the competition date was coming closer. I was rehearsing with the kids, some of them were repeating the mistakes.

I taught them the right steps, they practised.

Finally, it was the day of the competition, I just moved out of the room to leave for school, I heard Manvi's crying sound.

I turned to her and she was forwarding her hands, it seemed she was demanding to go with me. I was helpless and said "no baby, I can't take you with me"

But she cried louder, Gurumaa tried to calm her down but she was in no mood to stop crying. I sighed and held her in my arms.

I couldn't see her cry for long, and took her with me to school. The kids glanced at me, one of them asked "mam she is your kid?"

I nodded in yes, they touched her cheek she giggled.

I spoke "enough, we are getting late go and get ready"

Everyone nodded in yes and they got ready to leave for the theatre. I prayed they would win the competition and my job gets permanent.

I wished them good luck, Arushi looked at me and said "come with us"

I asked her "Are you sure?"

Arushi nodded in yes. I smiled and followed them to the theatre.

They were nervous seeing the performance of other students, I encouraged them "Give your best it does not matter you lose or win"

They smiled and went on the stage to perform. It was my last to prove myself, and make proud to the transgender community.

They performed for 5 minutes and the audience clapped seeing their performance. Manvi tried clapping, I held her arms and made her clap. She chuckled.

After three more performances, the result was announced and finally the moment I was waiting for. I closed my eyes and the host announced us as the winner. I was left shocked and elated.

I glanced at Manvi with teary eyes, she was my lucky charm. I kissed her cheeks "mannu.. We won"

She smiled broadly "e...a" she made sounds. I sighed deeply..

Arushi was amazed, she came to me and smiled "Congrats Ahana as I promise you are our permanent dance teacher"

I smiled under teary eyes "thank you Arushi mam"

I left my house with Manvi. I informed everyone that I got the job. Gurumaa and my supporters were overwhelmed.

They celebrated by playing drums and dancing. I made her sit on the wooden bed and danced with them.

Suddenly, my eyes fell on Manvi. I was shocked, she herself crawled down off the bed and fell. I stepped to hold her but she started crawling here and there in the corridor. I was so elated seeing her crawling on her knees.

It seemed she was enjoying crawling. She sat down at a place and clapped seeing us dance. She was growing up and it was a delightful moment for me to see my child learning new things. She was a blessing in my life.
