Chapter 37: Their Reality

Manvi's POV

I was left totally stunned hearing their conversation. They wanted the savings which Ahana had fixed for my future for their own desires. Kutumb looked at me, they wondered if I had heard their conversation and I pretended to be unknown.

I smiled at her and asked, "what's wrong?"

"Nothing child! I want you to sign these papers your father had bought land on your name" she said forwarding the paper.

I smiled and said "let me read"

I was about to read it but she denied "don't you trust us? We are your parents"

"Just to be sure" I replied and began to read. Inder snatched the papers from my hand and began his drama.

"She doesn't trust us, we are doing so much for her and she can't even sign the papers," he said.

"It's not like that and honestly I don't need anything! So let it be" I replied and headed back towards the room.

I got ready and packed my bag to attend the lecturer in college as it has been two weeks since I had skipped the lectures. The principal would be calling my previous number which doesn't belong to me anymore. I might end up withdrawing from my college which I can't afford as Ahana had taken out a loan for my education.

Kutumb entered inside and asked, "Where are you going?"

"College" I replied and was about to move out but she held my wrist and pulled me back.

I glanced at her, her eyes were filled with anger "no college for you! You are only going to do housework!"

"I won't," I said in an adamant tone

She slapped my face to which I was left shocked "how dare you to raise your voice and refuse my instructions! This is all because of living with transgender's nobody taught you how to behave with elders"

I just couldn't believe it, no matter how rude I was, Ahana never raised her hand to me. She scolded me but never judged me.

I still refused to listen to her and walked out of the room. I reached the main door but Inder closed the door. I shouted, "I need to go to college!"

"You want to go? Fine.. sign the papers we will let you go" he said forwarding the paper. I snatched it from his hand and tore it into pieces with tears brimming down my eyes.

"Never! This money belongs to a person who worked hard for me. I am not going to let you waste it" I shouted at the top of my voice.

Kutumb again raised her hand on me, the blood started to ooze out of my right side of the lips due to her harshness. I disrespected Ahana because of these creepy people. She was right, the people who can bury me when I was born can do anything.

"Listen manvi! I am not Ahana who will tolerate your nonsense! You are going to learn all the housework and soon you will be married get that" she said in a raged tone leaving me in disbelief.

"How can you do that! I am just eighteen" I said..

"We have no option! I need to settle my debts and you are the key to it. We brought you here just for the sake of money, not love" Inder replied shamelessly.

I took out my phone and called Arijit but he wasn't picking up my call. "I hate you both! Arijit.."

They started to laugh, Kutumb said "we sent him to you! He was the one who manipulated you against Ahana.. So that it becomes easier for you to approach us!"

I was taken back with this, she snatched my phone away and locked me inside the room as I tried to run away. I shouted to open the door and let me go but it was in vain.

I dropped down on the floor and cried. It was all my fault, I trusted people who are not worthy of it.

"Mumma..." I uttered Ahana's name as I missed her.

I remembered how I didn't even listen to her for once. Left her alone crying on the road, all she wanted was me, nothing else. I am the most stupid person, who always ends up in the trouble with wrong decisions.

I broke the beautiful relation of ours with my own hand. I even hurt her with my harsh words not realising she is a human being too.

"Mannu... your mumma is special"

"Promise you won't ever leave me"

The taunts, humiliation was better than this miserable life. Ahana was always there for me, to wipe my tears, to protect me from the cruel world and love me like anyone else. How could I do this with her? I left her for people, who manipulated and played with my mind only for their own benefit.

"Sorry Mumma.. I am sorry"

The door opened, Kutumb entered and I looked at her with fear.

"Ahana won't come.. You have humiliated not only her but her community people. It has been almost two months she didn't even bother to find you so forget it! Tomorrow we are leaving for Kolkata. Have the food" she said and left the room keeping the food plate.

I pushed it away, her words will now not impact me. I know her true colours, but if I reach Kolkata then Ahana won't ever know how my life is. I have to do something, give her some hint at least she would try to find me.

Wait, why would she find me? I have disrespected her so much. Didn't even listen to her pleadings. I gave up on my thoughts, and the next morning I managed to grab my phone when Kutumb and Inder were busy packing things. I emailed the institute that I am unable to continue my studies due to personal reasons with the hope that they will try to investigate the matter but unfortunately I failed. (luckily Ahana was there when the email reached the principal)

Why would I matter to them? They don't even respect me, humiliate me every day. I gave up and accepted fate. It was all because of my mistake. Kutumb burned my adoption paper and I watched with tears in my eyes. It was the only belonging I had that was related to Ahana.

Inder showed me a picture of Ahana, she was on the road talking with Sneha Maasi. I smiled looking at her emotionally, he then showed the man spying on them.

"Don't try to act smart! That man can kill her if you try to run away! Did you get me" he warned me.

I nodded in yes and silently went to Kolkata with them. I didn't want her to lose her life because of me but I also didn't want to live my life in hell. They brought me to the house, which was guarded by goons.

I saw many teenage girls of my age brought here forcefully and now everything was clear. They had sold me to a man for the sake of money, how disgusting. I was unwanted for them so it can be predicted they can do anything with me. Damm, I was just so stupid to realise this. Ahana is right, sometimes I understand things much later.

They locked me inside the room where there was only a bulb and no sunshine except a small window which was covered black.
