Chapter 10: Manvi's Stubbornness

It was a holiday today, and Manvi was the happiest child as she didn't have to go to school. I took her out to the market for some shopping.

She was looking around, many boys were having something in their wrists. The girl was confused and bewildered. She questioned "mumma what is that?"

I replied, "mannu today is rakhi (indian festival) where sister ties thread on the wrist and brother promises to protect her always"

"But if anyone doesn't have a brother?" she questioned.

"Then they tie it to the person who protects them" I answered.

She was thoughtful, she then ran away to another shop and shouted "give me that" she pointed towards the thread.

I followed her and the shopkeeper scolded "get away.."

I passed a deadly glare at him "this is not the way to talk to a girl"

"You are not a girl either this kid" he replied with much hatred.

I was so much pissed off hearing it. Manvi demanded "mumma I want this..."

I questioned her "what will you do?"

She frowned and said stubbornly "buy for me"

I gave up and bought the rakhi, the people taunted "now transgender will celebrate rakhi.."

I was about to answer them but my friend stopped me "leave it Ahana.. There is nothing new in it"

Manvi held the rakhi, she said "mumma bend down"

I got on my knees to match her level, she held my wrist and tried to tie it on my wrist. My eyes became moist.

She passed an innocent smile to me and said "you protect me always so happy rakhi mumma"

I hugged her tightly, her love was enough for me to fight with the cruel world. Just a few minutes ago, normal humans insulted us but this girl gave me respect. I was so proud of her.

"Mannu.. I promise I will always protect you" I said.

"I know mumma.." she said confidently.

We walked away from the place, I reached the society and told GuruMaa what happened in the market. She was elated hearing it.

One fine day, Manvi and I were in the school. I saw her arguing with one of the classmates. I approached her and stopped their fight.

"Mannu.. What are you doing?" I said.

She said loudly "mumma she insulted you.."

"But you can't fight like this" I scolded her.

"It's her fault and you are scolding me.." she said and hit the girl again.

"I never lie, your mother is trangender.. You are not one of us" she shouted.

I was shocked, Manvi was angry hearing it and pushed her hard "how dare you say that"

Was my identity going to affect her studies? Will trauntrans be thrown on her? Will she be able to handle all this? I never thought of all this.

What if one fine day she leaves me? No, I can't lose her, I must tell the truth.

I held her hand and took her away from there. She shouted "mumma leave me.. She is saying I am not like her"

I brought her home and made her sit on the couch. I cupped her face "manvi listen to me"

"That is true, I am different from normal mothers... and you have to accept this" I informed her.

She was bewildered not understanding, I sighed deeply.

"You learned about girls and boys in school right?" I asked.

She shook her head in yes..

"I am the third creature of god.. I am a mixture of a girl and a boy" I exclaimed.

"But you are my mumma.." she said innocently..

"I will be your mother always.. Promise me you won't ever leave me and go.." I asked.

She hugged me tightly "mannu will not.. Mannu is antique piece so are you" she said with a smile

Tears escaped down my eyes, as she will grow she will understand more. I won't let anyone snatch her from me.

Third's POV

Manvi attended the school function, everyone got to know her mother is a transgender. Everyone teased her with "kinnar ki beti" (child of a transgender)

She was angry hearing it, and shouted "shut up... my mumma is special"

The teacher entered the classroom, everyone became quiet. Manvi sat beside her friend but she pushed her "I am not sitting with you"

She made a sad face, the teacher scolded "Kritika, apologize this is not the way to behave"

Kritika apologized to her and Manvi smiled. It was lunch time, her friend kritika refused to have lunch with her.

She was sitting on the stairs sadly, and started to cry. She did not understand why everyone is behaving rude with her? Why she is called daughter of a transgender?

After the school, Manvi went home with Ahana. Ahana asked "how was your day?"

She was quiet, Ahana assumed something must have happened in the school.

Manvi turned on the television and watched the movie. Ahana said "mannu do your homework first"

Manvi refused with "no.. no homework and no school from tomorrow" she stubbornly denied.

Ahana was bewildered with her words, she asked "what happened?? Why this new nuisance?"

"No school means no school.." she said adamantly leaving ahana totally bewildered.

Hope you all like it.
