Chapter 1: The Beginning of The End
--------
A/N: I apologise for the slow updates, I have a lot of college work to do, and I only managed to update this. I am considering to put all of my stories on hold up until the holidays when I can actually get more updates in. For now, this will have to do. Anywho, I hope you enjoy this update. :D
Warnings: This may feel rushed due to the fact that I was actually writing this quickly, so I do apologise for that, emotional, potential cringe.

Hinata ran. He ran as quickly as his legs could manage. He needed to get away from there. He managed to get home as he continued to run to his room, slamming the door shut on his way.
Love isn't fair...
Hinata thought to himself, as he sat against his door crying.
–--—
As the sun rose in it's usual calm and peaceful manner, it shun light onto the roads once filled with darkness and sleep. Colours orange and pink had made their appearance once again, only this time to turn later to a sky blue, rather than an indigo colour. The birds tweeted their usual morning lullaby, which as a result made their presence known. The early birds eagerly got out of bed, ready to start the day early. For those who'd rather sleep than do anything stayed on their comfy bed, sleeping in as they usually did. Luckily, it was a Saturday so no one was really bothered about school, unless they were unfortunate enough to get homework during that period. Those who got unlucky complained about the amount of homework received, whilst those who did get lucky simply enjoyed the free time they had.
Hinata woke up as the sun rays hit his eyes, rubbing them in order to become fully awake. It took the tangerine a while to realise that he fell asleep against the door. At first, he forgot the reason why he was where he was. However, as memories of the day before came flooding back into his mind, he once again began to shed more tears. It was a painful memory. Another thing that the boy took a note of was a few amount of blue zinnia petals scattered on his lap.
Strange, I don't remember these petals being here before...
The short boy thought to himself, as he picked up the blue petals, admiring the beauty. This reminded him of the one that he loved greatly, Tobio Kageyama. At the thought of this, Hinata felt something being present at the back of his throat, and so began to cough. He coughed out the blue petals were stuck in his throat. Once he was done, Hinata looked at the petals in fear, as this wasn't normal at all.
Thinking logically, he searched up on google his symptoms, to discover it was linked to the disease known as Hanahaki. Using his finger, he tapped on the link to a website, and read the definition:
"Hanahaki Disease
A disease caused by unrequired love, causes the victim to cough up petals, blood, or even whole flowers. The flower that the victim coughs up tend to represent the person that they love by the date of their birthday and their favourite colour. This disease causes a flower to grow around the lungs, eventually suffocating the victim to death. The victim may also appear to be exhausted, out of breath, or may even avoid the person that they love in order to avoid creating complications.
The disease can get worse at a quick rate depending on the strength of one's love. The victims life spam varies, but on average it comes to approximately around 2 months - 1 year (though it has been recording that the victim to have died in a matter of weeks), however it's dependant whether the victim chooses to take medication to ease the symptoms or not.
As stated previously, there are medications which can ease the symptoms of the disease. However they will be advised to take it at a certain dosage as too much can also kill the victim. These medications commonly bring side effects such as vomiting, nausea, or in the worse case, both.
There are two ways in which the disease can be cured. These are that either the person that the victim loves returns their love. It cannot be a strong friendship, it has to be romantic love. If that becomes impossible, then the alternative method is through a surgery. However, if the patient chooses to go through with it, they will loose the ability to love again.
Due to the fact that this particular disease is very rare, there aren't many surgeons that specialise in the area, as well as the surgery being very expensive. This brings problems to many victims of the disease that have issues with affording it, hence why many died."
Hinata being Hinata, he barely understood the information that he had read. That being said, he decided to text Sugawara the information, to explain it a bit better. After he had sent the message, he only waited approximately 5 minutes before the silver haired boy replied to the tangerine's text.
Sugamama:
Well, this basically means that there's a flower growing inside whoever has the disease, and it'll kill them unless the person loves them back or they get the surgery, but they'll never be able to love again. Why are you asking? Are you okay? You don't have this disease do you?
Unsurprising to Hinata, Sugawara was flooding the boy with questions, worries and concerns. He didn't blame him, he'd be worried to.
Hinata:
Yes, I think I do.
This was all the boy could say, as he began to cry at the realisation that he's going to die soon. He knew that Kageyama didn't feel the same way and the prices of the surgery is way higher than his family can afford. The only option at this point was something the boy would rather not think about. In less than 4 minutes he received a text from Sugawara.
Sugamama:
Meet me at the park close to your place, I'll bring Noya with me. We are going to talk about this.
–--—
Patiently waiting at the park, the silver haired boy was walking back and forth, thinking about the current situation and events. The vice captain was extremely worried and was lowkey panicking about Hinata's health. He didn't want to loose anyone, not to a disease like Hanahaki. He had lost a family member to that disease, often blaming himself that he couldn't do anything to prevent their death. He vowed to himself that he'd never let anyone else die from it. This was his chance to stick to his vow.
Whilst Sugawara was thinking, the libero was sat on the bench, attempting to keep a calm composure for when the time comes. He knew that if he revealed his worry to his kouhai, it'll worry the boy even more than it probably already is. Suga was doing a terrible job at keeping calm, so it just left him to keep a stable mind. Both boys didn't really bother looking very presentable, choosing a simple choice of hoodie and jeans with trainers.
Finally making it to the park, Hinata immediately noticed the boys. However, he didn't run towards them like he'd usually do. He found himself to be way too exhausted to do that, so instead he chose to slowly walk up to them. Hinata, too, didn't really bother dressing up, also choosing the simple attire of hoodie and jeans with trainers. He told his mum about the disease before he left the house, she was shocked, before he began to hug the boy and cry. This had touched the tangerine's heart the most, making the seriousness of the situation finally sinking in. He was going to die, and there was no avoiding it.
Both of the boys rushed over immediately once they spotted the tangerine walking over to them. Suga and Noya hugged Hinata as if it was the last time they'd ever hug him. The worry and concern on their faces were clearly present and no clear attempt was put up to hide it (except for Noya, who still tried to keep calm; a slow fading façade).
"Oh my god Hinata... Oh my god..." this was all the silver haired could get out of his system as he began to cry. All of this was getting too much for the 3rd year, and even more for the 1st year, who too began to cry.
The trio were surrounded by silence. It wasn't necessary a comfortable silence, rather a nervous silence. They didn't know what to say to each other, or how to start the conversation. The fact that Hinata was going to die soon dwelled on them.
"So, what are you going to do now...?" Nishinoya was the first one to start the discussion. He was really worried about his kouhai, not even bothering to hide the concern anymore.
"Well, the surgery is expensive, so my family can't afford it, plus Kageyama doesn't feel the same way, he probably has a girlfriend, so that only leaves..." Hinata replied, not being able to finish the sentence. The first reason being was that he was coughing up more blue zinnia petals at the mention of the setter alone. The second reason was that he'd rather not think about what's coming for him. He didn't want to die. He'd upset so many people if he did, and he knew that. He wouldn't be able to be by his sister's side, or help out his mum. Or even worse, he'd never be able to play volleyball with his friends again.
"Well, the one thing we can do is that if Hinata stops going to practice, it'll be obvious that he has it if he starts coughing up petals in front of everyone." Suga suggested, a suggestion which the trio dreaded on but they knew that was probably the best solution.
"I want to continue going to practice, I want to play volleyball with my friends while I can! Otherwise I'll never be able to forgive myself!" Hinata responded to the suggestion.
"I knew you'd say that..." The vice captain told the tangerine, pausing in mid sentence as he took out some medicine, specifically medicine which helped to ease the symptoms. He handed them over to Hinata. "Here, someone in my family needed them because they too had the disease... unfortunately they died from it." Suga finished on that. He hugged Hinata once again, Nishinoya joined in with the hug.
The journey was only going to get worse from here.
The trio knew that. They knew that all too well.
