TWENTY-TWO
Genesis's POV >>>>>>>(Are these even really necessary anymore?)
"Okay run me through this one more time. You, Genesis Carino, are the infamous Scarlett assassin, whom of which I have been hunting for as long as I can remember. Your best friend is your partner of sorts and the man that could not only rip out my spinal cord in a few maneuvers but also heal me as well. The twins are pretty much normal but know that you like to spend your nights causing mass destruction to peoples lives."
I leaned back against the couch and nodded. "Yeah, that's pretty much it."
Thorn paced back and forth in the living room. He had practically worn a hole in the earth's crust at this point. He hadn't stopped moving for about an hour.
Jake looked to be just as flabbergasted as his friend although he wasn't moving, just stood to stare out the window watching as the members of his gang tied things up and stood for more security, a blank look across his face. It was so unlike him that even I was slightly concerned and that was saying something.
Mason already having this knowledge wasn't bothered at all, in fact, he looked more relaxed than any of us which was even more concerning. I mean this was Mason, Mister stoic himself. Since when is he ever relaxed?
The two guys had gotten here shortly after we had detained the two assassins. Apparently when there are gunshots fired in the gang leaders home its procedure to call his second and third. Not someone who could actually do something to help. No that would be way too smart for them.
Fortunately, Alex wasn't here to see his brother go slowly insane. Soon after both attempted assassins had been incapacitated I called Sapphire and Crystal to come to pick him and Prince up. They needed to be somewhere safe and my house was the safest place for them all now. The twins didn't exactly seem happy to be leaving me with three pissed of males but they knew I could handle myself.
Thorn was muttering rapidly to himself now and I was starting to consider maybe duck tape and a body bag was the best place for him. Just as I was about to act on that, Axel burst into the room.
"Genesis!" I jumped up in shock which I don't know why considering I sent him a text to get his ass here.
He strode over to me and placed his warm hands on my cheeks, his eyes searching my face for any points of harm. He frowned at the minor scratch on my cheek but other than that he seemed to be appeased.
When Axel sees me to be in a healthy condition his panic appears to subside. "I do know that being almost killed is part of the job description but twice in a week that's a little extreme even or you."
"I just have one of those faces you know?"
"A face that people want to shoot? Oh, I'm well aware."
I stuck my tongue out at him.
Axel sighed and looked around at the damage in the room still not acknowledging the three other guys who were watching him with a mixture of anger and confusion. "I leave you alone for five minutes..."
Rolling my eyes, I fold my arms across my chest. "Did you bring the stuff?"
"Of course this isn't my first rodeo, sweetheart." He chuckled, holding up the messenger bag on his shoulder.
"I'm going to ignore that you said that entire sentence."
Axel grinned at me before moving to the two people who were unconscious and probably slowly dying in the corner of the room. "Woah, woah, woah. No one's doing anything until I get a better explanation!" Thorn yells, causing Axel and I to halt in our spots.
"I don't appreciate getting yelled at and I don't think you want to yell at me while I am carrying more than enough weapons that would allow me to cause you immeasurable pain and dismember your body under the hour." Axel spoke with lethal calm.
Thorn was smart enough to back off and hold his hands up in defense. "Well forgive me but I'm still trying to wrap my head around this situation."
I scrubbed my hands across my face and sighed heavily. I didn't realize revealing your secret identity would be this hard. Now I understand why superheroes don't do it. Not that I'm a superhero no I'm far from it. Actually, when you think about I just do the dirty jobs actual heroes feel are morally wrong to commit. In a way, I am still saving people.
Axel seemed to be quite annoyed too and he had only just shown up. "What is hard to understand? She's an assassin, I'm an assassin. She kills people, I kill people. She can kill you within seconds while writing a novel, brushing her hair and painting her nails and I can make you feel unimaginable pain with only a paper clip, post-it note, and a plastic spork." He smiles at Thorns horrified face. Even my lips twitched, it was quite funny.
"That's true I've seen him do it."
I could see the moment that Thron finally felt the fear settle in. That this was real and we could end his life and his friends in a matter of seconds. It was good to be scared, fear kept us sane and stabilized us. Even after a year of training myself to suppress my emotions, I allowed myself to feel that fear.
The fear traveled in through Thorn's veins but never made it to his facial muscles or skin. His complexion remained pale and matte, his eyes were as steady as though he were viewing items on shelves but I could see the subtle way his hands clenched or the way his eyes darted to his friends analyzing the amount of time to would take to get them out if we did choose to act.
I smirked at him. "Oh relax Thorn we're not gonna hurt you. If anything I saved your life, multiple times so it'd be a waste of my time to kill you right now."
He narrowed his eyes at me. "Oh, that is so reassuring."
I batted my lashes at him and blew him a kiss.
Axel gave me a look I could only describe as pure amusement before he turned back around and got to work. He surveyed the damage of the perpetrators and sighed. "A colored pencil Gen? You do have supplied weapons for a reason."
I shrugged. "I was improvising."
He mumbled something to himself that I missed but could only guess it was insulting. While Axel was busy doing whatever Axel does, I looked at Jake who's eyes were already on my partner. Specifically his ass.
"See something you like Jakey?"
His eyes snapped to mine and he blushed, which was both the cutest and funniest thing I had ever seen. He looked like a tomato.
"N-no?"
I smirked. "Oh really?"
"Let him look Gen. My ass doesn't get enough appreciation as it is." I chuckled as Axel's voice sounded from behind me.
"Attention Seeker."
"I crave validation." Was the reply I received. Laughing again, Thorn watched me between narrowed eyes.
"What exactly is your relationship?"
"Yeah, aren't you dating Chelsea?" Mason sounded from the chair he was sat in, It was the first thing he'd said since he arrived. I too was curious, after all, I never did ask why he came to pick up Chelsea that day and she acted as if they had just been married or something.
Axel grunted as he stitched up the man's wounds. His eyes were narrowed in and he chewed on his bottom lip, a clear sign that he hadn't heard a word we just said. Axel was concentrating and when he did that he had the tendency to block out the rest of the world.
I didn't see the point in fixing them up anyway after all soon enough Axel would only be cutting them open to extract information anyway.
"Ax?"
It was another two minutes before he even acknowledged me. He tied off the stitch and peeled his gloves off, throwing them in a plastic bag. Only then did he look up at me. "Sorry did you say something?"
"No I just enjoy the sound of my own voice," I said rolling my eyes.
He grinned at me. "Oh, I know."
I flipped him the bird before repeating Mason's question.
Axel shrugged, moving to check the women's injuries. "Her Uncle is a sex trafficker. He's also a recluse and very close to his niece so I got close to her to get closer to him."
My eyes widened drastically. Even I didn't know about this and I knew everything.
"Seriously? Why didn't I know about this?"
He shot me a look over his shoulder. There was no grin, no frown, just nothing. "Because you were too busy roaming around the country and not talking to me.,"
I winced but quickly recovered. "Actually spent some time in Prague soooo..."
Axel's eyes were giving a glare that could freeze someone's bones, like being nude in the middle of a hailstorm, where every chunk of ice was a frosted dagger cutting into my skin.
I pointed an accusing finger at him. "You're judging me. Stop."
He rolled his eyes and I almost signed in relief. I hated it when he was mad at me. "I judge everyone. It's a hobby of mine."
"So what happened with the Uncle?" Jake asked, quietly.
Axel's eyes met the ginger boys and gave him a once over, his gaze raking over every inch of him. It was only after he'd finished his inspection that he replied. "I killed him. Made it nice and painful too. He gave me everything I needed to know about his organisation and hunted those bastards down too."
He then turned back towards the women. Axel glared at the bullet holes, before putting two fingers to her neck and checking her pulse. There was silence.
"Is she dead?" Thorn spoke.
Axel hushed him and waited another minute. "No, but she's barely alive. If I don't do something now there will be nothing I can do. There's not much blood so nothing's been ruptured but something's not right. "
Laying her body down, he ripped open her shirt. Leaving her in nothing but her sports bra. Not fazed by her partial nakedness, Axel digs around in his bag and pull out equipment.
"1 cm diameter entry wound at the left lower abdominal wall," He mutters to himself. Axel's hands carefully pressed against her stomach, feeling for something, "Bullet in the peritoneal cavity but no injured intraperitoneal and retroperitoneal viscera."
Only God knows how he can remember words like that. There was a reason I leaned towards engineering instead of medical like Axel. His brain could formulate stuff like that but biology and chemistry simply bored me. Axel had once told me that it was great to learn because it helped him learn how to inflict the most pain and not kill someone.
I didn't really care about that. I went by the knowledge that if you put enough bullets in someone they'll eventually die and that was enough for me.
"Gen come here and put pressure on the wound." I shook my head and went to his side immediately.
Digging through his bag again, Axel curses.
"What's wrong?" Jake asked.
"Nothing. It's fine." He says through gritted teeth, pulling on another pair of gloves. Lifting up the scalpel, he tells me to remove my hands. "Just mop up when I say so okay?" I nod.
"Oi carrot top, pass me stuff when I ask okay?" He wiping povidone-iodine on her wound. At least I think that's what its called. If not it's just that yellow stuff, doctors use to disinfect stuff.
No one moves. Axel looks up. "Hello, I'm talking to you."
"Oh," Jake says hurrying to Axel's opposite side. Jake shoots him a boyish smile, my friend simply narrows his eyes at him. "Scalpel."
Jake hands him the knife like equipment.
He slices into her abdomen, slowly. "Clean it." He says and I do quickly.
"Forceps." Jake hands him them quickly.
It was weird watching Axel operate on this women. I mean it was already weird due to the fact he was doing it on Thorns living room floor, which was probably highly unsanitary but it was always strange watching my friend save a life.
I had seen him end lives countless times without an inch of remorse or regret and now he was trying his damn hardest to keep someone alive...only to kill them in a few hours anyway. It was a waste of effort if I do say so myself. God knows why Axel puts himself through that stress for no reason.
"Okay. It's okay she should be good now." Axel says drawing my back to the present. He stitches her up easily and sighs in relief.
I pat his back. "Good job Ax."
He smiles at me. "Thanks."
"Yeah what are you? A doctor?"
Axel's eyes shift from me to Thorn. "According to my medical degree." He then holds up his bloodied hands. "I need to wash up."
Thorn nods his head towards the kitchen. "You can use the sink through there. Don't touch anything. I don't want blood anywhere." His eyes narrow on the patch of blood on his carpet before correcting himself. "I don't want blood anywhere else."
Ax nods and walks away. Then pissed off gaze then shifts to me. Yep, he's still not okay with any of this. Jake seems to notice this too and stands up. "I'...um..I'm gonna go make sure he knows how to turn on the tap." Before disappearing too. I then look to Mason who of course has already made himself scarce.
Bastards.
I stand up, wiping the little blood I had on my hands onto my jeans. A heavy silence settled over us, thicker than the uneasy tension in the atmosphere. Thorn's eyes bore a hole in my head and my unsettled eyes ran across the room trying to avoid catching his stare.
In the end, I gave in first. "Okay what is it now?"
"Why did you lie to me? In fact, why did you do any of this? Did you know who I was from the beginning?"
The questions felt pointless to me but seemed to be important to Thorn so I collapsed in the coach with a heavy sigh and did my best to answer him. "I never lied to you and I had no clue who you were until Degray told me that you were a gang leader."
He nodded, his arms folded across his chest. "Why are you here?"
Ouch. The way he said t was like me being here was the worse thing in the world. It probably was but that's not the point.
Seeing as there's no point in lying to him now I give him the truth he wants. If he doesn't like it, then that's his problem, not mine. "I'm here to kill your parents."
Thorn pales. His face ashen, lips pressed into a thin line. His limbs move as if some inexperienced person is controlling them remotely and his eyes are wide, looking right at me, but not really. "Wh...what?"
"I'm here to kill your parents. You know a bit of the shooty shoot and stabby stab. All the fun stuff."
After a moment he regains his composure. Hands curling into fists and eyes that burn with anger had me freezing. I had never seen this look on Thorn before and it was pretty terrifying.
I sat up slowly, slightly worried that he'd hit something or someone. "Thorn," I spoke slowly, slightly scared of his reaction He then turned to me and approached. I stood my ground, refusing to back off. If he wanted to punch me then fine just gave me a viable reason to hit him back.
I braced myself but instead of a fist, warm lips slammed down on my own. My eyes widened in surprise. I went to push him off me but hesitated.
Then he kissed me again, softer this time and the world fell away. It was slow and soft, comforting in ways that words would never be. His hand rested below my ear, his thumb caressing my cheek as our breaths mingled. I ran my fingers down his spine, pulling him closer until there was no space left between us and I could feel the beating of his heart against my chest.
When we pulled away I was both confused and breathless. "Um, what was that for?"
He smiled softly at me, brushing a strand of my raven hair behind my ear. "Because."
I rolled my eyes and pushed him away. "That's not a reason. I just told you I'm going to kill your parents and your immediate reaction is to kiss me? I fear there may be something seriously wrong with you."
Thorn chuckled. "I've been planning to kill my parents since I was fourteen."
"What?"
Thorn threw himself on the couch and I glared down at him. "They hurt Alex and they'll pay for that."
"What do you mean hey hurt Alex?"
"When he was about two, they were going to let some guy they owed money to take him and use his for whatever they wanted to. My dad hated Alex for some reason and would do anything he could to hurt him, which wasn't hard considering he was a toddler. My mom did nothing so I fought them and somehow managed to grab my brother and get the hell away from them. I stayed with Jake for a few weeks and when I risked coming back to the house they were gone. Nothing left, just a note that said, 'the place and the gang is yours now son' and that was it. No explanation, nothing."
"Fucking douchebaguettes." Was my reply. Don't ask me why but for some reason that was all my brain could come up with.
Thorn, laughed. "Yeah, definitely. I owe everything to my father, namely my self-loathing and abandonment issues."
I sat on the couch next to Thorn and patted his knee in the most comforting way possible. Thorn chuckled. " I've used every resource at my disposal to find them and I've come up with nothing.,"
I grinned down at him, glad that we were on the same page for this predicament. "Well lucky for you, I have a lead, I just keep getting fucking shot so I'm unable to act on that." I glared at the unconscious bodies in the corner.
"Well, you have me now and my people. I want to help in any way I can."
I opened my mouth to reply but was cut off by someone. "Are you two done with the sexual tension now?" Mason strolled into the room, his hands shoved in his pockets.
The pair of us glared at Thorn's third. "Yes, we both agreed that his parents are going to die soon and that was that."
Mason stared at us, his calculating eyes trailing over us before he shook his head. "Normal people just have sex not plot murder."
I shrugged. "They're both as satisfying."
Pinching the bridge of his nose Mason sighed. "Where is Jake and your boy toy? I need to be surrounded by someone a little saner."
I pushed myself up from the couch. "Trust me Ax is no saner than me."
I wandered into the kitchen, the boys on my heels. Ax and Jake had been gone a while. I was sure it didn't take this long to wash your hands.
However, the sight that greeted me had me halting in my tracks, causing Thorn to bump into my and Masons eyes to widen. "Oh fuck."
My partner in crime had the ginger boy pinned up against the fridge, his tongue down his throat his hands down up his shirt. Similarly, Jakes' hand was running up and down Axel's spine his other threaded in Axel's dark hair.
I cleared my throat and neither of them moved. In fact, Axel had the nerve to hold up a finger, silently telling us to give him a minute. I rolled my eyes. Manwhore.
"Axel if you could kindly remove your tongue from Jake's throat I would greatly appreciate it."
Reluctantly Jake and Axel separated. Axel turned and grinned at the three of us, not even slightly embarrassed about what we had just witnessed. I looked to Jake, at least he looked a little guilty.
"I thought you were straight." Was the first thing Thorn said. I looked at him, ready to beat the living shit out of him if I even spotted the slightest bit of disgust. Homophobia was another thing I would not stand for.
Fortunately, I found nothing but pure curiosity. I looked back to Jake who shrugged. "I was," Jake gave Axel an appreciative once over. "And then I wasn't."
I threw my head back and laughed. "Can't leave any guys for the rest of us can you Ax?"
Axel ran a hand through his hair. "It's not my fault I'm so irresistible."
"Is anyone straight anymore?" Thorn mumbled.
"I'm bi, Sapphire is a lesbian and Crystals pansexual so I don't think so." I turned to Mason, who also didn't look fazed. Good. "What about you Mase? Are you straight?"
He smiled at me. "I'm Asexual."
Thorn threw his hands in the air. "Fine, I'll be the straight one then."
I laughed. "You can always be gay too. Apparently Axels very good at turning guys."
Jake growled from behind me. "I think the fuck not."
Axel chuckled throwing his arm around Jakes' shoulder. "Don't worry darling, I know he's got a thing for Gen anyway."
Thorn grumbled but didn't disagree.
"If you two are done, we have a plan to make up."
Opening his mouth to argue, I held up a hand. "I don't care. You two can do the whole hanky panky thing later. Right now we've got to figure out who's trying to kill Thorn and where the frickity frack his parents are?"
The horny boys in front of me sighed but relented. "Fine."
I grinned as I clasped my hands in front of me. "Then let's begin."

Ayy another chapter, which unsurprisingly is wayyyy overdue. I apologise as usual, I've been procrastinating but my best friend bullied me into posting so here you go. It probably the longest chapter I've ever written for this story too so I hope that makes up for it a little.
Yes practically everyone in this story isn't straight, except Thorn ;) If you have a problem with that then you can kindly fucking leave.
On that note I'd also like to kindly ask you to check out @Silentlyydying 's book. She new to wattpad and the best friend that got me to post.
