THIRTEEN

Genesis's POV

When we finally reach the place where the street race is being held it's just after 9 PM. The track in which people are currently racing on are simply old back country roads that nobody has used for normal roads in years. The place is secluded and hidden from any random drivers by a row of thick huge trees. Nobody would accidentally stumble upon a place like this, which made it the best place for illegal track racing.

Despite this being a very remote area there were still plenty of people here. Crowds of around 100 or more men and women were gathered around an array of cars that were spaced out away from the track itself. Some were cheering and yelling at the race currently in progress.

Most of the people appeared to be in there late teens, early twenties and seemed to be enjoying themselves as if this were an average Wednesday evening and not an illegal activity they were participating in.

The sun was just setting so it created an ominous but appealing atmosphere on the tracks. This combined with the headlights of various cars illuminated the tracks well.

I pull my car over to a patch of grass less crowded than the other area where everyone else was parked. My gorgeous Lamborghini Aventador S attracted a few stares which made me smile slightly. Shadow was a special car that was not only incredibly expensive but made plenty of people pretty envious.

Crystal and Sapphire had agreed to stay the night at mine with Prince. It wasn't hard to convince them since Saph didn't want to be anywhere near Axel right now and seemed pretty content with watching over my dog, I also gave them full access to my food supply and Netflix account so it was practically a done deal.

I had clued my friends in on all the details with Axel and how I'd cleared everything up with them. I tried to convince Sapphire that Axel would never harm her and that he wasn't at fault for disappearing but she still didn't want to talk to him.

Axel and Sapphire had a complicated relationship. When I had finally managed to take her and her twin away from their abusive asshole of a father Saphire kinda became a recluse. She wouldn't eat, couldn't sleep, she even resorted to harming herself which scared me and Crystal. I ended up begging Axel to try and talk her out of her harmful thoughts and negative behavior, Crys didn't think it'd do any good due to him being male and 'terrifyingly handsome'- her words. But surprisingly Sapphire embraced Axel's help and the two became close friends.

For a few months, Axel and Sapphire stuck together like glue which was incredibly frustrating to me and Crystal but we coped because we knew it was helping her and that was all that mattered. Finally Sapphire started turning into the wonderful girl she is now. Happy, sarcastic, smart, beautiful and that was all her sister had ever wanted.

Ax and Saph stayed close friends but due to mine and Axels job things started to get complicated and stupidly or smartly depending on one's opinion Axel started pushing his friends away so he wouldn't get them hurt which in my opinion wasn't the best idea at the time. Especially when the threat wasn't that big and was avoidable but Axel being the cautious human being he is didn't want to risk his dear friend's life so he did what he was taught and kept his distance.

However when the threat was finally eliminated the damage had already been done and the trust Sapphire had once held in him was diminished. Foolishly Axel made the mistake of not fighting hard enough to get her back leaving the relationship between them even more broken than was necessary. It was most likely the reason that Sapphire was willingly to disappear with me as well, quickly accepting the idea of never contacting Axel again. That hurt him and her but she was just trying to stop getting hurt again which I understood all too well.

My gaze from inside my parked car drifted to Axel himself who was typing furiously on his phone, frustration, and pain clear on his face. "You okay Ax?" He looks up at me and tried and fails to fake a smile. Axel is good at many things, he's a great doctor, amazing with computers but hiding his emotions was never his strong suit.

"I'm afraid I've been thinking," He mutters.

I shake my head. "Ah, a dangerous past time,"

The corners of his lips quirk up momentarily before he sighs. "She still won't talk to me."

I pat his knee and reach over to grab my Walther P99 from the glove compartment. I check that it's loaded and put the safety on before shoving it into the waistband of my black skinnies. "Just give her time Ax. You did break her trust and you know that hard for her to build back up after what her father did," He winces at the memory of his friend black, blue and bloodied and drags a hand across his face.

"I know but it hurts to see her pushing herself away from me like this."

I nod. "So you know how she felt all those years ago," My oldest friend pouts but doesn't say anything else as he watches me reach under my seat to pull out duel push daggers that I proceed to shove into my combat boots.

"Jeez, women how many weapons do you have stashed in this car?"

Pulling down the visor, I straighten the blonde wig I had forced upon my head as an attempt to disguise my dark hair. If there were people from school here which there most likely will be considering rich kids love to get into trouble I don't need anyone linking me back to the school. The wig was about as long as my natural hair but was wild and curly instead of pin-straight like my own. Using the mirror I applied my usual ruby red lipstick and smirked when Axel rolled his eyes at my appearance. Hey, I've worn worse although each time I do look absolutely fabulous.

I chuckle as I pull on my black hoodie that will hide my face in the darkness of the large hood. The wig was mainly for backup but the guy I was meeting did think I was a curvy blonde so I had to make it appear like that too. I then quickly put on the black mask that had recently become an addition to my daily assassin wear. I never needed a mask before considering I never used to associate with people closely related to my target before but under recent circumstances, it's been necessary.

"Seven or eight. If you reach under your seat you'll find a Glock 19. Still, know how to shoot a gun Axxy?" He rolls his eyes again as he pulls out the small handgun, checking the safety's on and shoving it into the waistband of his own jeans.

"I was taught the exact same thing as you Genny. It hasn't been that long." I grin wickedly at him and braid my hair as he pushes his phone into his pocket with a reluctant sigh. I shove a hoodie in his direction and he puts it on without question, pulling the hood up to conceal his face. "Well then let's do this thing,"

Before I have a chance to open the door Axel grabs my arm. "Gen can you please try not to kill anyone tonight."

I shrug, "It's a Wednesday I know how to restrain myself,"

He scoffs pushing the door open. "No, you absolutely do not." I simply grin at him in the darkness of my hood.

We stand side by side at the hood of my car surveying the area. There were plenty of people staring now, most likely at the beauty that is my car or people were just curious as to who the newcomers were. Despite their interest, nobody approached us, which was great because I really wasn't in the mood to deal with assholes.

"So who are you here to meet?" Axel murmurs lowly from beside me. I don't answer as I silently analyze everyone in the vicinity. I recognized a couple people from school most of them girls whose skirts are too short and are just looking for a little trouble in their tamed world. There were a few older men that looked like they were running the races or taking bets, stuff like that. Most of the kids were just that kids. Teenagers smoking and drinking just looking for some fun on a Wednesday evening.

I snap out of my trance when Axel elbows me in the ribs. "What?" I snap.

"Looks like your boy toys are here. And they're staring at you,"

"What?" I say again confused. I follow his line of sight to the three walking skyscrapers.

Fuck. My. Life.

I literally cannot escape them. Is there not one day in which I am free from the tree gods. Please lord. I groaned when I saw Mason nod in my general direction catching Thorns attention.

Damn, I knew he was a gang leader and everything but you'd think he'd just take the one night I needed to be here off. It's like life is setting me up.

Well fuck you life, I'm married to my work. I also have several book boyfriends that I will not cheat on with a Skyscraper type human.

"Fucking Kingston. I swear he's stalking me," I mutter forcing myself to keep steady.

"Wait that's the Kingston's son?" Axel asks in disbelief.

"Sure is. He's also an arrogant, self-absorbed prick. Although he does have a very adorable little brother. Anywho ignore them. I doubt they'll approach. And they're not my boy toys thank you very much. They are my burdens."

Axel chuckled. "Whatever you say Gen. So tell me who's your correspondent?"

I start moving not replying to his question. Axel follows my heels silently, watching my back as always. I march over to a man in his early twenties with bright green hair. I recognized him from a picture that took me three weeks to find. The Kingston's may be killers but they knew how to cover their tracks.

The man was leaning against a bright orange 1970'S Dodge challenger, talking to a couple other lads. There were two girls as well that were practically in their underwear as they tried to gain the attention of the clueless boys.

As Axel and I approach the group they turn to us with hostile stares. Apparently, we won't be playing nice. "Can I help you?" Mr. Green Hair asks and I roll my eyes at his attempt at being intimidating.

"Now, now, now Lewis there's no need to be rude. You have the information I need so I'd be delighted If you give me it so I can leave a happy, women. Afterall you wouldn't want me to leave unhappy. Well, you might. Depends if you value your life or not honey?"

A malicious smirk curls on Lewis' lips. His green hair was unruly and greasy atop his head seeming to have not been brushed in a while. He was wearing a red fitted shirt that didn't really do his body any good. He lacked muscle definition and was lankier than anything. His blue jeans sat lowly on his hips and when I say slowly I mean really low, his junk was practically hanging out. I forced my eyes upwards my stomach churning at the sight of the man.

"Gimme 20," He says batting his friends away to which they disappear just as quickly as we arrived.

"Ms. Death," He greets and a smirk forces its way on to my own lips at the name. Lewis then sweeps his stare to Axel who stands unmovingly behind me. "Ms. Death's bodyguard,"

I laugh. "Oh, darling He's not my bodyguard. If anything he's yours." Lewis' eyebrows raise confusedly. "He's here to make sure your frail little body doesn't get damaged too badly. Unless you give me what I want. But if you don't Parker here knows not to get in my way." Axel grunts at the alias but doesn't deny it.

Lewis steps back slightly alarmed but other than the cautious step he shows no fear. "So as much as I would love to spend my night being surrounded by whores and assholes I have people to kill before the night is up, so it will please make this quick and tell me everything I need to know."
