NINE

Genesis' POV

I'm late for school.

Again.

Unsurprisingly, I woke up at 9 am because I was out until 3 am Monday because I was on another job assassinating some a drug dealer in the next town over. I would have let it pass but the drugs he were selling were killing people, mainly the local youths. It was an easy job but he had men everywhere so I had to hunt them down and make them stop selling the drugs otherwise they'd be next on my list. The job also means I'll have to make another trip to Thorns tattoo shop to add to my tally.

I park my car and quickly run into the school. Sapphire and Crystal sent me a text this morning, consequently waking me, asking where I was. It was then that I got a time check and ran around my house getting everything I needed.

I dressed in a simple plain white top and washed out jeans that were folded at the ends. I layered it with my typical black leather jacket and bright red converse. Essentially, I wore my bright red lip and a little eyeliner. Since I didn't have much time to sort my hair out I threw it up in a messy bun and tied a red bandana around my head to complete my outfit.

I ran down the hallway at high speed, heading for my English literature class. I didn't mind this class because I loved English and Sapphire and Crystal were in this class. I'm pretty sure Thorn and his friends are also in it but I'm not certain. The only flaw with English literature is that it's taught by Mrs Atkinson, or the teacher from hell as others like to call her. Don't get me wrong she's a good teacher she's just evil, like seriously she'll ask you a question on something we haven't even learnt about and if you don't get it right you get detention.

Once I've located room 83 I slow my pace down and make my way to the class. I had already missed first period which I didn't mind because it was only Italian and I already knew that fluently.

I opened the class room door and everyone looked towards me. My eyes found Crystal and Sapphire and the offered me a small wave. I smiled in return.

"Where's your homework?" Of course Miss Atkinson asks that, not even seeming to know I'm late.

"Homework?" I ask dumbfounded. Obviously I know what homework because she's been drilling it into our minds not to forget it or else. I hadn't done it because I had been 'working' but she didn't need to know that.

"Yes the one I gave you last week." She gruffly responds sending me a hard glare. Gosh, how did she even get a husband?

"Oh that homework. Well I'm sorry to say it committed suicide because it had two many problems." I reply dead serious. For added effect, I fake a tear and put my hand to my heart, looking up at the bland ceiling. "RIP English homework."

The class fills with quiet laughter. I see Saph and Crystal shaking with laughter and I even see Mason failing to muffle his laugh.

I make my way to my seat in the back row. High fiving Saph and fist bumping Crystal on the way past. I settle into my seat which unfortunately just happens to be next to Thorns and three seats away from my friends. Mason sits next to Thorn and Jake sits in front of me.

When I'm comfy I look up at my teacher who's glowering at me. "Did you study at all this weekend?" She questions crossing her arms over her chest.

"Nope." I say popping the 'p' whilst shaking my head no.

"And why not?"

I sit up, my back straight and my hands folded neatly in the desk in front of me. "A year has 365 days for you to study, after taking away 52 Sundays for religious purposes there are only 313 days left. There are about 50 days of summer during which are way too hot to study, so there are 263 days left. We sleep at least 8 hours a day in the year that counts as 122 days, resulting in 141 days left. As we're teenagers we will fool around for a certain amount of time but let's just say an hour for experimental purposes, making it so 15 days are gone, leaving 126 days. We spend 2 hours a day eating, 30 days are used for this purpose in a year and we are left with 96 days of the year. We spend approximately 1 hour talking to friends and family taking away another 15 days, leaving 81 days left overall. Exams and tests take up at least 35 days in our year, hence we only have 46 days. Taking off 40 days for all the holidays, we are left with 6 days. Since everyone gets sick, we'll have to take off another 3 days as a minimum. You're left with 3 days in the year to study. However we must take off another 2 days for unexpected events such as a death, any accidents or a baby being born, consequently leaving a day but that day is your birthday. Therefore my dear teacher there is officially no time in the year to study." I finish with a deep breath.

Looking around I see everyone's eyes on me. Sapphire and Crystal are grinning like idiots, whereas the rest of the class including the three walking Skyscrapers and the teacher are staring at me completely baffled. The room is utterly silent.

"What? It's just logic." I shrug batting my eyelashes at my teacher.

Unexpectedly Thorn stands and starts clapping. "I'm sorry Miss Atkinson but even I have to admit that was fucking amazing."

People yell in agreement and start clapping as well. Smirking, I stand and take a bow, earning a few whistles and more yells. "Okay, okay just be quiet and let me carry on with the lesson." The teacher scolds.

Mrs Atkinson carries on teaching Shakespeare and I settle in my seat with a victorious grin on my face. Jake abruptly spun around in his seat and smiles at me. "You Genesis Carino are my new hero." He winks before turning back around. I chuckle and write down my notes.

The class rushes by and before I know it it's lunch. Sapphire and Crystal wait at the door for me and then we head to the cafeteria which happens to be on the other side of the school.

"Well Gen I think you deserve a medal." Sapphire laughs from my right.

"So do I." I brag and we all laugh.

"Literally that makes up for you being later this morning and leaving us to actually socialize with normal people." Crystal pouts making me chuckle.

"Again Crystal I don't know why your surprised, you've known me for what almost 3 years now, name one time I've been on time for anything."

She stays silent for a while, looking in deep thought. "You're right. Your always late. You have got a watch right?" She questions and I playfully nudge her.

A muscular arm wraps around my shoulders and from surprise I slam my elbow in to his gut making him groan. "Jeez woman. It's just me. Stop. Hitting. Me." Jake yells. I sigh in defeat.

"Don't sneak up on me then dude how many times do I have to teach you that bloody lesson?"

"Hopefully never again." He groans rubbing his stomach. Mason and Thorn fall into step either side of Sapphire and Crystal and they give them a wave. Thorn glares at Jakes arm and I raise an eyebrow in question, causing him to shake his head and divert his gaze.

We all step into the cafeteria and walk to our usual table. "So any reason you were late this morning?" Thorn asks curiously. He bites into his burger that he had just bought. I must admit the food at this school isn't that bad.

"I slept in because yesterday I had to kill this Psychopath that was selling drugs which were killing kids." I say truthfully because I know he won't believe me.

Sapphire and Crystals eyes go wide, realizing I had just spilt my secret. They looked hilarious as they were both just about to take a bite if there sandwich so there mouths are open and there sandwiches are both half way to their mouths.

I look at the guys who are just staring at me blankly, all except Mason who seems to be silently analyzing my answer. "Guys I'm kidding." I mutter eating my pizza.

Everyone breathes a sigh of relief. "I just slept in that's all." Thorn nods.

We eat in silence for a while until Jake seems to recall something and looks at me and the girls. "You guys are girls right?" He asks and we all glare at him in return. "Yeah you most definitely are, now Thorn can try his pick up line on you. He said he had one that could get any girl to go out with him." He declare and I roll my eyes.

Jake elbows Thorn in the ribs slightly and nods towards us. "So go on dude do it."

Thorn sighs and looks at us smirking slightly. "Roses are red , violets are blue, love never crossed my mind until I met you."

All of us are dead silent and I just stare at him hoping if I stare hard enough he might magically die.

"See it worked. They're speechless." Thorn grins.

I break my stare and place my pizza back on the plate. My head was just yelling at me to get my gun from my bag and shoot him but my heart was telling me not. I don't know why and that's what bugged me. "Shoot him please." Sapphire whispers an I grin at her in return.

I restrained myself from reaching for my gun and just agreed to out smart him at his own game. "I can do that too. Twinkle, twinkle little star. I wanna hit you with my car, throw you off a cliff so high, hoping you break your neck and die." I smile sweetly.

"I'm sorry." Mason smiles and stands. He walks over to my direction and sits in the seat beside mine which is on the other side of the table away from his friends. He fist bumps me and I feel a sense of approval run through me. "You just got your ass handed to you."

Thorn glares at me once again and I return his glare with a meaner and harder one. Breaking the silence Jake mutters, "I think you too would make a cute couple. I can just see Genesis and Thorn being boyfriend and girlfriend."

I lift my gaze and look down at my pizza. "You shouldn't say bad words Jakey."

"He didn't say a bad word." Thorn defends, my serious demeanor obviously confusing him.

"Yes he did he said the 'G' word." I whisper making him raise an eyebrow. "Girlfriend." I shiver dramatically.

"You're horrible, you know and people call me a player." He laughs rolling his eyes.

"I know but if I wanted to enter the legal form of slavery called a relationship, I'll look you up." I wink, taking a sip of my water.

He scowls at me playfully. "Wow. That was probably the second most romantic thing that anyone has said to me."

"And what was the first?" I question genuinely curious.

"Go fuck yourself." He says with all seriousness. I tap my finger on my chin.

"Well I'm pretty sure I've said that to you too. So as you can tell I'm a pretty romantic person." I smile.

He rolls his eyes. The bell rings shortly after and I groan. Art, yay! Sarcasm.

Crystal is in this class with me along with Mason and Thorn. Jake and Sapphire have biology. They walk in the opposite direction talking and I smile.

Sapphire hadn't really openly talked to anyone other than me and her twin since their father but to see her openly talking and laughing with one of the schools bad boys , despite probably being one of the nicest bad boys I've ever met, makes me feel proud.

"What are you grinning about?" Thorn asks from beside me a genuine smile on his lips. I admire how normal he looks when he's relaxed and smiling and I can't help the soft smile that comes to my lips as well.

 "Nothing."

Art drones on. There are a lot of things I'm good at. I can thrown knives from over 100 yards away and still hit the moving target perfectly. I can kill someone in a range of different ways without even breaking a sweat. I can also do several back flips in a row and finish in an ariel then a round off. But one thing I can not do, and will never be able to do is draw.

Seriously every time I try and draw something I end up with the final product looking like a hand turkey that little kids do. I can't even draw a stick man correctly for gods sakes.

I throw my pencil down on the table giving up trying to draw a flower and take a peek at what Thorns drawing from beside me. Which just happens to be nothing. Thorn has his head on the desk sleeping, in front of him is a sketch book that looks awfully familiar.

The sketch on the page open is of a falcon sitting on a rock. It's incredibly detailed and beautiful. I find it hard to believe Thorn could draw something as amazing as this. Well I find it hard to believe he can draw at all.

I nudge Thorn with my elbow waking him up. He looks at me with sleepy from under his long eyelashes. I must admit he looks kinda cute and innocent like that. Snap out of it Genesis this is Thorn we're talking about.

Yawning, he stretches. "What?"

"How did you do that?" I ask pointing to his sketch. He gives me a lop-sided grin.

"It's not only Alex that can draw like that you know."

I roll my eyes and look down, frowning at my awful flower that kind of looks like a line with circles on it. Thorn chuckles next to me and I bet it's because of my failed attempt of a drawing. I scoff and pull his sketch book closer to me.

Flipping through the pages I see lots of sketches of plants and animals, I even see one of Thorn laughing which is amazing. I don't know how Thorn could have drawn himself like this without seeing it before hand unless he sits in front of a mirror and starts laughing. I close the sketch book and on the front it Alex's name in cursive.

I gasp and turn to glare at Thorn who has gone pale, knowing he's been caught. "You bastard. This is Alex's sketch book. This is copyright." I yell at him, earning an annoyed look from the teacher. I give him a small apologetic smile before turning to yell at Thorn some more.

Unfortunately my phone goes off, saving Thorn from my wrath. For now. I reach in my back pocket to pull out my phone. However when I have it hand it's not ringing and it doesn't say I have any texts or missed calls. My eyes go wide as I realise it's my 'work' phone. I grab my bag and dig through it until I find my other phone.

I turn it on to see I have an alert saying that I have a job. It must be important though because my contractor of sorts doesn't send me jobs during school if there not important.

I jump out of my seat. "Shit." I scramble to get my bags.

"Hey is everything okay?" I hear Thorn ask while I'm trying to shove everything back into my bag. "Miss Carino, what are you doing?"

I look up at my teacher and force a sad smile. I then turn to Crystal and say the next words to her so she knows exactly where I'm going and what I'm doing. "Aunt Petunia has to go to the hospital."

Crystals eyes widen in recognition and she gives me a nod in understanding. I run out of the room faster that humanely possible, despite my teachers protests and Thorns yells.

When I'm outside I call my contractor. "Hey." She says.

"Hey when, where, who, why." I say getting straight to the point. She knows I don't like to mess around and prefer to just get the job over and done with.

After she tells me the details I thank her and hang up before driving straight home. I quickly change into a black long-sleeved top and black leggings, I then apply my ruby red lips stick. I grab one of my many guns and tuck it in my waistband before putting on my leather jacket and jumping in my car.
