Call

Chapter 16

Sayori was practicing her breathing with Monika, going nice and slow.

Madelyn stood by the door patiently, watching the couple with concern.

"E... Explain..." Sayori rasped once she had calmed down enough.

Madelyn nodded, taking a deep breath.

"Well, it was around your junior year of high school... I was out on the streets very far from our house. This woman, my wife, found me... I broke down and told her everything. My addiction, my debt, you..." Madelyn paused, smiling softly at Sayori.

"She brought me to a rehabilitation center owned by a family friend... My husband. They helped me get better, Sayori... They fixed me... It took me three years before I finally became clean, no relapses... The three of us had formed such a bond, we got married... They even paid for my stay at the center! I tried to find you but you weren't home... The house was empty of any of your belongings..." Madelyn said sadly.

"I moved in with Monika." Sayori explained.

"I know... I didn't even know you got married! It took me so long to find you that I almost gave up... But I didn't! And here we are!" Madelyn rubbed her neck sheepishly.

Sayori sat silently, waiting to see if she had anything more to say.

"I know I was a terrible parent... I've realised my mistakes and I want to fix what I still can... Sayori Hikari Ea- Park... Can you ever, ever forgive me..?" Madelyn pleaded.

Sayori looked between Madelyn and Monika, knowing both women were awaiting an answer.

"Yes..." Sayori sighed.

Madelyn smiled broadly, relieved.

"But not because of your story... Because I need closure." Sayori corrected.

"Understood. Thank you." Madelyn nodded.

"Now, mother... Please get out of my house..." Sayori said softly.

Madelyn left without another word, closing the door behind her.

Sayori hugged Monika close, sighing into the crook of her neck.

"You okay..?" Monika asked, rubbing her back.

Sayori nodded, closing her eyes as she relaxed in Monika's embrace.

"Yeah... I'm okay..." Sayori smiled genuinely.

~~~
Yuri sat at the kitchen table, working on her latest horror novel, Ivory Blade.
(As far as I know this isn't a real book so don't @ me XD)
The phone suddenly rang, startling her from her trance.
"Hello?" Yuri asked, not recognising the number.
"Yuri..?" a familiar voice asked softly.
"Nimani..?" Yuri asked hopefully.
"Hi." Nimani said, sounding less nervous than she had originally answered.
"Hey, sweetheart! How are you." Yuri asked, smiling widely.
"I'm good..." Nimani said with a sigh of relief.
"Where's Natsuki?" Nimani asked next.
"She's at work, honey. She leaves her phone on silent, so she might not answer if you try to call her." Yuri explained sweetly.
"Oh. Okay." Nimani said passively.
"How do you like your new family?" Yuri asked.
"They're nice... I love you better though." Nimani said in a pout.
Yuri chuckled and sighed with a grin.
"Nimani, are you being nice to them?" Yuri asked with a smirk.
"I'm trying to!" Nimani scoffed.
"Try harder. They're nice people, Nimi..." Yuri said softly.
Nimani hummed and nodded her head, though Yuri wouldn't see.
"That's my girl..." Yuri smiled.
Suddenly, Yuri's phone beeped, signalling another call coming in.
"Nimani, sweetie? I'll call you back later. I love you!" Yuri said happily.
"Okay, Mama! Bye bye!" Nimani giggled and hung up.
Yuri cleared her throat and answered the call from an unknown number.
"Hello?" Yuri asked in a professional tone.
"Uh, hello... Is this... 'Natsuki Owens'?" A feminine voice asked sweetly, sounding a bit nervous.
"No... This is her wife. Who might you be?" Yuri asked in confusion.
Who could be calling asking for Natsuki?
"My name is Doctor Amelia Von Warner. It's actually a funny story of why I'm calling but my friend insisted I did..." she chuckled nervously.
"Friend?" Yuri asked.
Just what did Natsuki do this time?
"Apparently my friend, Akko, met your wife in a bar some nights ago and they had some sort of heart to heart. Anyway, your wife was upset that she didn't have any children which of course my friend cried about when telling the story... Big goof... And she begged me to ask if you or your wife would be interested in stopping by my office sometime? I specialize in helping LGBT parents procreate which I admit sounds sort of weird out loud but I assure you it's quite professional." Amelia rambled.
"A... Fertility doctor..?" Yuri's eyes widened a bit.
"Exactly! Akko practically begged me to look into your case and this was the number your wife gave her, evidently. I apologise for not calling sooner, by the way. I was having some issues with a newly transformed transwoman and her husband." Amelia sighed a bit. It sounded like she was typing on a computer.
"O-Of course... Um... Could I perhaps call you back tomorrow? My wife is at work right now and won't be home for a while to discuss this..." Yuri said slowly.
"Oh my, of course! I'm sorry for calling at random! That's perfectly fine. In fact, thanks to my friend I've cleared my entire week for the two of you just in case you said yes." Amelia said with a quiet giggle.
"That's wonderful! T-Thank you! I'll let you know first thing tomorrow about our answer. Goodbye!" Yuri said, grinning softly.
"Of course! Thank you! Goodbye!" Amelia answered.
Yuri hung up and clutched the phone to her chest, taking a few deep breaths as she processed what just happened.
A fertility doctor... Natsuki... We might finally... Oh wow...
Yuri saved her work and closed her laptop, deciding to be done for the day.
She began pacing as she knew Natsuki would be home in about twenty minutes.
~~~

(Oh my gosh gays I'm so sorry I've been basically dead all month! I was kind of depressed then busy then my friend moved in with us for a week so I was spending time with her and just a lot of things! I swear updates will start getting faster again and I'm sorry another time!!!)
