6. When the boss beauty walks in

Miael

22nd November 2019

Life's a lie.
I run from it because I don't want to end up heartbroken but this time I was sure I made a mistake by running away. 2 years down the road and I'm still stuck with the same confusion, what in the world was I thinking when I married the heir of the Martin group? I mean, he is the most inconsiderate person I had ever encountered. Rude, impatient and uncanny. But then again, how the hell I ended up thinking of him as a caring one?

For obvious reasons, he behaved better with me than others but then how Eleanor just described him on the phone call makes me worried. Did my running away from our marriage really change him? Has he really become cruel again? My mind became havoc and I knew the only thing I could do to calm myself down was to find out by myself. I had to return, anyhow.

Yesterday when I spoke to Eleanor I felt a sudden pain in my heart. It was such a weird feeling that I couldn't handle it. I have been away from home for more than two years now and not once had I spoken to Noah. I don't keep regrets ever but if Noah was really back to his selfish mode, I was going to regret running away big time. I was used to the term runaway bride by now but I had never thought or looked at the other side of the story. Noah got stood up by me, yet he never complained. Well, it was high time for me to return before some mishap happens with Eleanor.

Liam was most probably fooling around with her and Jade, as usual, was being rebellious but the way she described Noah, I knew I was wrong this time. I knew he was waiting, why wouldn't he? Didn't he promise me he would,  when I decided to breathe the last moments of freedom away from all the responsibilities and relationships?

When I married Noah, I never considered a future with him and I guess that is why I had been running away all this while. But walking towards the bleachers to his cross ball game now doesn't seem such pressure like it felt when I was walking down the aisle. It's so different. I was in Linkton high for my sister while my whole focus was directed towards the guy who had the scent of rain and even before I could properly frame the question in my brain my answer came for my rescue, literally.

I was walking so carelessly I didn't notice one of the balls coming in my direction. I thought my life was done for today but that is when he just appeared from nowhere kicked the ball away and saved me like he always did. So maybe, I was here this time to find out the reality of my marriage, my relationship with someone who wasn't a total stranger but nothing less as well.

My lungs felt uncomfortable as continued to struggle for breaths.

"You're in town?" He asked after a moment of silently staring at my face.

I removed my scarf on realizing he did recognize me and he intended to save me. But how did he know it was me?

"Yeah, visiting my sister, Eleanor," I said pointing towards the little bundle of panic, who was sitting in the bleachers.

She covered her face as soon as I called out her name while the whole school looked at me in shock. What blunder did she create now? I dismissed the thought and turned back to Noah.

"How did you know it was me?" I questioned.

"The scent of old books is a distraction." He said with a glint of a smile. I smiled back trying to hide the blush that actually crawled on my cheeks hearing his reply and that is when in the reflection of his wristwatch I saw Pete intentionally throwing a ball towards him. I pulled him aside as I pushed the ball away with my left hand and without realizing, I lost my most precious thing, my wedding ring. But I had no idea so all my focus was on how dare he?

"Pete! Is that you?" I asked as I walked towards him forcefully smiling.

"Miael." He returned the favor.

I opened my arms for a hug as he moved closer towards me. I slowly locked our eyes while totally distracting him and jerking my right leg kicked him in his balls.

I don't like people messing with my people.

"Don't forget, I used to coach the girl's team for Cross ball! I'm well aware of the rules." I yelled fixing my hair as he rolled down on the floor in pain.

I was an elite athlete just like my twin but I wasn't a fighter until someone tried testing my patience. Everyone in the stadium kept on glaring at my face while Noah smirked from a corner proudly.

"You are next!" I warned Liam pointing clearly at his face.

The smile on his face faded, "What? But why?"

Eleanor was still glaring in confusion.

"You made Eleanor cry! Do you have any clue about the consequences?" I scared him running after him as he jumped inside the bleachers to hide behind Riri herself.

"Come out!" I yelled at him.

Bouncing between the overly touchy fans, Liam kept on calling for help, "Eleanor, help me."

Riri didn't seem much bothered and just kept on trying to hide her own face.

"Eleanor!" He called out for help again.

"How can I help you when I myself don't know how long of a life I have got left?"  She ranted running out of the bleachers. "I haven't seen all the dawns yet!"

Liam followed her, "Noah, please save me, I promise to do your laundry for a whole week!" Liam bribed Noah.

He thought for a while and turned to look at Eleanor who was still shaking her head in denial of the deal.

Liam silently cursed her and offered a better deal, "Two weeks!"

The two of them looked at each other. Noah raised his eyebrows and Riri denied again.

Liam rolled his eyes and offered his final bait, "Two weeks laundry and a week of washing my own clothes too."

Eleanor walked to take a clear look at his face while I did the same. Liam, who was treated like a prince, who never washed his own socks just offered to do his own laundry which is actually three times a normal human being's. Eleanor placed her index finger on the center of his forehead and looked at his face which was finally pleading for mercy. She gave a vibrant smile before turning to face Noah and simply nodded. Noah blinked once and turned to face me and I let it slide just once because of him. Liam might not trouble her anymore but I was still unsure of a lot of things.

"How long are you planning to just stand there?" I called out to my sister opening my arms.

She pouted and without wasting a single second buried her head in my chest. I knew she was scared, it was evident on her face.

"I missed you, sissy." She mumbled tightening her grip.

Her blonde hair kept on troubling her eyes but she remained calm in my hold.

"Me too," I smiled parting away from her. Tucking her hair behind her ears, I cupped her face, "don't worry, I'm here now."

"I know," she smiled, "but, you here, all of a sudden?"

Now how do I tell her in front of everyone the real reason for my return?

"I just wanted to make sure everything I left behind in peace is still the same. You know, this place, this game, the people here." I replied parting away looking everywhere.

"I'm glad you're back though." Liam came forward to shake my hand, "welcome back, sister-in-law." He added whispering.

Noah slightly tilted his head glaring at the pale color of my face. I was never going to get used to these relationships.

"Thanks," I replied to Liam shaking his hand. "And you better stop troubling my sister."

He as the trademark of his family rubbed the back of his head and smirked looking at her.

"So, who won?" Eleanor asked folding her hands.

"You," Liam replied.

"Eh, I was talking about the game but good to know where you're at." She said patting his back.

"We'll continue next time since their leader is injured," Jade said finally speaking up.

Oh God, how could I forget? I was still to face the devil, wasn't I?

I removed the darker shades of blonde from my face, "You know we do know each other." I said moving towards him.

Noah usually didn't speak in between our matters. He knew it was a waste of time.

"How can I not know that?" He mocked, "But you know if you would have stayed back then and lived with my brother, I would have felt good while knowing this fact." He said kicking my gut feeling of this topic being raised.

"I know," I answered ignoring his eyes.

"Yeah, why wouldn't you." He taunted moving forward too.

I didn't answer him and taking Eleanor walked out of the stadium. I didn't want to create any scene in the school with my presence so I kept my distance from the Martin boys and I had advised all my sisters the same thing too.

But while I walked out, Noah continued to partially ignore me. This was weird. He saved me, recognized me and now he was ignoring me. How can he be so weird? Did he really change?

"I need to use the restroom," Eleanor told me as she ran away leaving me with Lele who had been staring at my face since I entered her sight.

"Did you see that? Liam is so good to his girlfriend, I'm so jealous." Some girl in a blue hoodie commented passing from my side completely ignoring me.

Weird. Liam's girlfriend?

"They really are so cute! The way Riri pulled him close to her face, so cool!" Another one in a red tank top said jumping on her feet.

They kept walking a bit while I kept glaring at them until they finally stopped all of a sudden, turned around and gasped out loud.

That's right baby, it's me.

"Oh God! Mimin! You're back!" One of them yelled rushing towards me. The other one followed her.

Holy daughters of craps.

"She is not Mimin, dear seniors," Lele sulked pushing them aside before rushing in the same direction as Eleanor.

"How can that be...? Uh, you're Mieal?" The girl in the red tank top yelled.

I smiled remembering her tone. She was once my classmate. "Been long, " I smirked turning on the sassy bitch mode.

"Goodness! Girl, we missed you! How have you been?" The one wearing the hoodie came forward for a hug.

Do I really know them? I don't remember any of my friends being this touchy. I quickly stepped back as her hands went across each other in the air.

"Yeah, I'm good." I forced a smile. "I heard you guys were talking about Liam's girlfriend?"

"Oh, Riri? She seems to be a freshman. I heard they have been dating for a while and she had come here for Liam." The red one replied, "by the way, do you remember us? I'm Seth." She added.

"Oh, yes of course." I finally recognized them clearly. "Seth and Julian."

"Oh Goodness, you do remember us." Julian jumped holding my hand. They were a part of the theatre group when I was the overall in-charge.

"Actually, I've got to rush, my sister's waiting for me at the cafeteria. It was nice catching up with you." I said raising my hand, bidding farewell. I didn't see them at the game today, they might have left earlier to prepare for the winner's dance performance. A ritual that was followed like a real ceremony, every time a cross ball match happened.

Finally getting a chance to escape, I entered the cafeteria to find it partly empty. I could bet most of the girls were standing outside the boy's dressing room waiting for the Besharams.

I chose a secluded seat and hovered my body on the desk as I leaned on my favorite table after years. It was quite for a while before I heard a couple of girls walk towards me.

"I know, Mieal's going to freak out if she finds out I slapped Liam." I heard Eleanor speak.

"You did what?" I shouted in disbelief stomping the table in front of me as I stood glaring at her shocked face.

"Slapped Liam," Eleanor repeated murmuring. "...but in my defense, he called me an attention speaker first."

My eyes widened still trying to understand how did my little sister change into a lioness all of a sudden?

"I'm sorry, sissy! I just couldn't control my hands. As soon as I see his face they just can't stop themselves from hitting him!" She added biting her lips as if imagining the scene again.

"What else did you do in just a single day?" I folded my arms across my chest.

"Managed to attract Noah's attention and make people feel he could be interested in me—unintentionally." She raised her hand in the air emphasizing the last word, "I swear, I didn't even know how it happened."

"Oh good God!" I gasped falling back into my chair.

"I'm sorry, sissy!" She added biting her nails.

I slapped her hand lightly to remove her nails away from her teeth and asked again pestering a smile on my lips to avoid the frustration, "What else?"

Eleanor copied my expressions and after a deep pause, finally decided to drop another bomb, "There's a very- very faint chance, Ryan Bennette has got his eyes on me." She said covering her face completely as I lost my balance hearing the final shock from her, or so I thought.

"Ryan is a psychopath. Liam will kill him for that!" I stressed.

"Why would Liam kill him? I don't care about that idiot! What if Ryan kills me?" Eleanor panicked too whining weirdly.

"How long have you been here girl?" I finally asked out allowing my face to turn dense, "How can you do all this just in a single day span?"

"Oh, there's more." She said all of a sudden.

I bit my lips to control my self from yelling out loud, "What?"

She stood up from her seat, walked across the table and sat beside me as she leaned on my shoulder side hugging me, "Don't worry, it's not a big deal." She assured.

"Tell me, what it is exactly," I asked mustering up all the courage I had left to hear what else could she have probably ruined. It's not like she could have sold her own name.

"I kind of told everyone that my name is Riri." She said smiling slyly.

"What's wrong in that?" I asked expecting a bigger blunder before figuring out myself the blunder she actually created was much worse than I had thought.

"You told everyone you're Riri, just Riri not Eleanor Relandirumouredumored girlfriend of Liam Martin?" I questioned getting up from my seat in disbelief.

She stood up too, biting her lips and slowly nodded her head. "It was Lele's idea. I swear!" She said before pushing Lele forward and running away.

This girl!
