5. The scent of old books is a distraction

After Liam went downstairs, I knew I was going to be in destruction mode. Now that he knew about my reality, he would leave no chance to trouble me, after all, that is what he had been doing all his life.

Following the Golden boys, I also went downstairs, I still had to take a few more classes but I wasn't really in a mood, so I did what an ideal Principal's daughter shouldn't.

"Let's get out of here," I told Lele as soon as I found her waiting for me in the cafeteria.

Her lips curled up all of a sudden, "where to?"

"I want to explore Linkton High." I smiled pulling her out. Liam's eyes also followed me along with the mess of people present around.

"I saw the Martin brothers get here before you did. Anything off?" Lele asked pouting.

I let down my head a little before barging out the cafeteria and denied replying to her question. She was a softball of energy but I wasn't really sure if she was trustworthy.

"So, what do you do for fun here?" I asked reaching the auditorium.

"Linkton High is an amazing place. It's like a semi-castle. I'm a part of the theatre group, so I am here in the auditorium with most of the girls. I'm in handles radio along with Kerry, so they stay there. While Mieal was here, I heard she was in charge of a lot of stuff, even a part of this school activities were headed by her." She said dancing around the stage.

"Interesting." I gleamed caressing the photograph of my sisters stuck on the wall of fame. "How long have these been here?"

"Not too long, these got up here two years ago. I think this one, in particular, is from their freshman year.

"Noah..." I paused to calculate if I should let my curiosity get on my nerve but them, I allowed it to slip, "...how did he end up in the same class as them?"

"Well, during his second year's beginning the school encountered some serious issues, it took him a lot of effort to get a grip on the crisis along with his father, thus he had to skip a few subjects. He has already completed his degree, he just needs to clarify a few subjects." Lele replied as smoothly as always.

"Oh, also, he is like the present director of the school as well. His office is around the corner." She added.

I wouldn't expect anything less from him.

After roaming around the entire school, enjoying the special views and scenes, I finally decided to call it a day. My Dad had arranged a private car for me to get to school and tour around the city.

Although, it was such a tiring day at school that I jumped into sleep directly skipping the part where I would usually lay on the bed overthinking every single event that happened earlier till dreams take me to my escape kingdom. I did not run into any Martin after that incident. I was happy but I was scared. I wasn't sure if I could trust them yet. I didn't want people to know I was a Renaldi and gain a lot of popularity for no reason.

My father was still the principal of the school, my sisters were the most famous thing that ever happened to the school and above all, I was now the sister-in-law of Noah Martin. Technically, this was the last thing of my concern because no one actually knew about him marrying my sister but this news always topped the charts of my worries.

I woke up the next morning feeling all energetic and rushed to the school after skipping breakfast. I met Lele at the parking where she introduced me to Kerry, Mimin's side chick. I hated the concept of side chick and side dude but this school seemed to be obsessed with it.

Kerry was a little different. She was not much paranoid after seeing me, unlike the others. She seemed to be holding herself better than the others. She was pretty, enough to be a popular girl who deserved a side chick according to the norms of this school. Well, I wanted to interact more with her but as she was my senior she went to her own class before I could ask her to stay.

I asked Lele about our first lecture too and her reply took my mind off track for a lot of seconds, this was what she said, "Checking out hot boys in their sportswear!"

"What do you mean?" I questioned curling my eyebrows.

"There's a cross ball game today! Golden spoon boys vs Silver spoon boys!" She said jumping on her feet.

"What is a cross ball?"

I remember Mieal having a gold medal in that game but I never knew what exactly it was.

"A game invented by these epic heroes. It's like basketball with four balls. So there are 4 balls, whichever team puts 3 of the balls in the basket first, wins. If it gets a tie, then one of the Martin brothers races with one of the Bennette brothers in swimming." She explained and it sure sounded interesting.

"Cool! So who has the major chance of winning?" I asked.

"The team who is not at all distracted." She said pointing towards Noah. He looked so calm and peaceful, "Do you think he'll look at us in the bleachers today?"

"What? Why would he?" I questioned back.

"Because he rescued you from Liam yesterday and he stood up for you. He has never done this for anyone before." She replied. Well, I sure did get special attention from everyone.

But then if any one of them really did anything stupid during the game, I would be in a crazy mess.

"Let's go, I don't want to miss out on the best seats," Lele said dragging me towards the basketball court.

Liam, Jade, Jeff, and Eric were already on the field stretching out while a few boys from the other group were busy enjoying the love of their fangirls.

"Are they the Silver group?" I asked Lele.

"Yes. The one with long hair is Pete, Patricia's brother, and the eldest Bennette son. He is too sweet with girls and uses them to boost his popularity. Rumors say Miael was on his target list, now its Kerry."

She pointed to the next guy, "The one with black hair is Caleb, his younger brother. He is a little too much into fights and bikes. He is obsessed with your sister Mimin and usually is always found in a quarrel with Jade. Still, he is the best among the Bennette boys. The one in the green hoodie is Ryan. He is the sweetest. He doesn't care anything about rivalry or hatred until he sets his eyes on a girl. They say he has the physic of Brad Pit! Also, he has been looking at you since we walked in. The rest three our their side dudes, Alex, Lores, and Andrew. All three do drugs, are mostly drunk and are rich lads." She explained.

"Who is he?" I asked glaring at the only guy I had no clue about in the Golden boys' team.

"He is Kyle. Nice and sweet. The whole universe knows it, he is the only one who can convince Noah. They're childhood best friends." She explained. Her expressions remained unreadable this time.

Childhood best friend? How come I never heard about him?

I remember there was a group of other kids who used to stay around us as well, but I barely remember anyone called Kyle. Was he someone who came into Noah's life after I moved away?

We were sitting in the third row from the top while Patricia and Kerry were sitting right in the front row trying to capture their attention. Soon, Noah entered and all the girls went breathless. Howling and cheering for him, they practically danced for him. He simply walked away without even looking towards the bleachers. I wasn't sure if he really hated the idea of getting involved with these girls or was he egoistic too?

"He could have just given them a smile." I rolled my eyes while all the girls glared at my face with annoyance.

Lele hushed me all of a sudden, "Shhh! You never speak ill of these legendary people. Besides, Noah didn't look at them because he doesn't want to get distracted at all."

"Bullshit," I mumbled.

My eyes were fixed on my Instagram feed when all of a sudden my sixth sense warned me of a cruel aura getting into my way. I quickly looked up as all of a sudden I spotted the devil smirking while glaring at me.

"Oh boy!" I bit my lips trying to hold in all the curse words rolling on my tongue.

He stood up from his place and began to walk towards the bleachers continuously staring at me. His eyes were a little flirtatious today while the icy water droplets on his body were in a mood to tease even my thoughts about him.

Gosh, he turned out to be hotter than I had thought he would be.

His steps paced up as he finally came up to our seats before the match started just to tease me, as usual.

"Why are you here?" His husky voice asked which had just gone 10 times denser because of the warm-up exercises.

"To support you guys!" Lele replied.

"Huh, I'm here to learn Cross ball." I lifted up my chin proudly.

Liam chuckled accepting a towel from one of his fan's hands who fainted immediately, "It's not a game for little girls." He rubbed my head, ruining my hair.

"Get your hands off me." I ranted pushing him away slowly.

"Awe, they are so cute together!" Some weird girl commented from the back.

"I know, right!" Another one added excitedly.

What the hell?

I glared at his face which was a little confused too.

"I heard a few rumors too." He giggled.

And yet he allowed the sparks to catch fire in this dry jungle? How dare he?
I clutched the neckline of his t-shirt pulling him down to my face, "you should've cleared them up. It's not like you enjoy getting tagged with short people who need to pull you down to make you get in their eye level just to speak to you.."

Liam Martin almost leaning over a girl's face was a big issue for this place, I noticed it a little later.

His astonished face suddenly turned up into the willful smirking one he usually boosted, "lately my interest has been shifted in all kinds of girls, as long as they are not a Renaldi."

I was about to reply to him with a kickass punch in his guts when the referee called out both the teams together.

"Seems like I'm in luck with the winning strikes today." He chuckled slowly unfolding my fingers from the corners of his t-shirt's neckline and very cunningly he went away after winking at me.

Later Noah also joined his team in his sleeveless white T-shirt and knee-length shorts. He was looking so amusingly hot, I for once forgot he was my brother-in-law.

Jade looked nothing different. His biceps were giving out the fire while his broad chest was trying to escape out of his t-shirt.

The game began and the Golden boys took the ball towards the basket first. They had three balls on their side while the silver boys had only one. Noah did the first basket by an over headshot. The girls as expected became werewolves, only without fur.

The whole stadium echoed by cheers of his fans. Some fans went over the board by yelling out their feelings for him while getting partially undressed.

But there were some who were so full of themselves that they decided to take the credits for themselves -like Patricia, in order to stand out, she went out of the bleachers to cheer for him from a little lesser distance. Her hips swirled continuously while her upper body kept on bouncing as well. It wasn't just anything but a distraction to most of the boys. Her body seemed to be designed perfectly for the purpose of seducing people, and with people, I don't limit anyone's imagination to only boys.

All of a sudden Kyle passed ball 1 to Liam at the same time when Noah passed Liam ball 3. Liam could only catch one ball so he caught ball 1 and threw it back at Noah. Ball 3 straightaway went and hit Patricia on her head, in no time she was done on the floor, wounded. The game continued and none of the boys cared to look at her once, including her brothers. They sure were fiery when it came to such battles.

By now, both the teams had 1-1 ball in their baskets. Ball 3 and ball 4 were still in the court and both of them were in the hands of the Golden team. The situation got more tensed when all of a sudden Noah's calm expressions turned a little puzzled, his eyes began to dodge every single person present at the game. It was as if he was looking for something very curiously. Something he had been dying to see.

"Noah!" Liam called out.

"Noah! Ball 3!" Jade yelled too.

"Noah!" Eric said as he threw ball 4 towards Jeff. Jeff, as usual, was distracted by the girls and so he was about to miss ball 4 while Noah had a chance to score with ball 3. But then something happened. Something that changed the whole scenario of this Renaldi-Martin relationship definition for me.

Noah left ball 3 alone and ran after ball 4, pushed Jeff aside and saved the girl who had unknowingly entered the scene by kicking the ball away. The whole crowd went silent for a moment. Everyone had their eyes fixed on the new girl who made Noah lose his attention from the game. It was pin-drop silence, I could hear him breathe heavily as well.

I tried to look at her too but I was facing her back and her face was covered with a scarf anyway. Noah turned to look at her face and blinked twice as if still trying to believe his eyes. She breathed heavily too, trying to control her emotions after avoiding the accident. I didn't know what was going on until she tilted her head towards her left piercing right through his soul. I covered my mouth with both my hands to stop myself from gasping out loud. If she was here, my secret was gone.

"You're in town?" Noah asked glaring at her face continuously.

The ground was utterly quiet, I could hear every single word they said and I could bet it was going to get a little bit more intense.

She removed her scarf and simply nodded slowly as my doubt turned into my fate. She was here.

Brace yourself, Eleanor, time for the world to know the truth.

"Yeah, visiting my sister. Eleanor." Miael said pointing towards me while I covered my face, even more, trying to hide from the already mad crowd. Everyone gasped and gave all sorts of shocked expressions while I continued to curse my luck. Her smile ensured the whole God damn world, she wasn't lying. My scared expression yelled out to the leftover souls, Hey guys, I'm Eleanor Renaldi.

"How did you know it was me?" She asked turning back to Noah finally meeting his eyes for the first time in several years.

Well, yeah, how did he know it was her?

Noah smiled faintly confessing, "The scent of old books is a distraction."
