36. Soft not Fragile

Mieal

With just as little patience as the left up legalities of my relation, I dared to ask myself finally after 2 days of isolation, Why now? What now? Why us?

It would be an understatement to say I was devastated. Because I wasn't. I was in no state to face anyone. So now, I was partly unsure if Noah Martin was my husband? If I had just like that spent a night with a random guy thinking of him being someone special? Or if I was just thinking, or was he really, someone special to me?

Mimi's words kept pinching my heart, or at least I thought so. They all left for Linkton High, I saw them leave from the balcony. My hair messing up with my eyes, my lips drying in hesitation, my legs shivering, and my hands not even willing to wipe anymore tears. So all that I had been suffering for the past 2 years meant nothing? There was no sacrifice? There was nothing good out of the marriage because of me... was there?

"Mieal?" He knocked.

I collected myself in a hurry, I would rather have him see me all sorted than see my tears.

"I need you to help me with something at Linkton High, why don't you join me?" Noah asked entering my room. I walked up to the dressing table pretending to ignore everything that had happened. It was obvious that I didn't want to talk about it, but it felt as if Noah never really cared.

"What is it?" I asked picking up the eyeshadow Pallet, "Will it take long?"

"I want you to register as the associate director of the Media Department." He smiled lying down on the bed behind me.

"You want me to be what?" I swirled around to match his gaze all of a sudden, "Noah, I'm awful at being a leader, let alone in the Media department."

"A leader fears no challenges, takes responsibilities for her team and especially if she leads the media, she must know how to separate emotions from news and cover up things that might hurt others." He spoke bluntly before getting up to match my eyes, "You my lovely wife is a master at all of these."

"You're a jerk." I ignored, "An awfully handsome jerk."

"I'll take that as a compliment." He smiled, "I'll give you 5 minutes to get ready."

Noah walked out of my room after politely convincing me and praising me for handling the situation. He smiled for me. Well, I guess I was afraid of nothing. Maybe, he would return to me.

I did my hair into a bun, wore a maroon bodycon skirt with a lacy white shirt, and hung up a maroon blazer on the back. It was supposed to look weird but how can any dress look bad on Mieal Renaldi?

"Hurry up!" Noah called out upon seeing me walk out of his house, "It's been 15 minutes, Mieal!"

I quickly rushed to his car and without saying anything sat in the passenger seat beside him. He had been really calm about this too, although I was able to smell cigarettes.

"Did you smoke?" I finally asked after a lot of hesitation.

Noah remained quiet.

"Wow, now Mr Martin is adopting all the bad habits," I commented.

He continued to glare at the road ahead, "Nope, Im just relieving stress."

"Liar," I mumbled getting ready to face the crowd. This was the first time we would walk out of the car together, not as a married couple but as business associates.

About 10 minutes later we reached the parking lot, half of the students had already gone to their classes, the other half was busy thinking of new rumours staring at me. Noah got out first and helped me open the door. He was a gentleman and I loved that about him.

"So, where to next?" I asked.

"To the principal's office." He calmly said walking before me.

I stopped realizing he tricked me, "what are your intentions? Why would you bring me here all of a sudden to meet dad?"

"You know it better than I do." He smirked returning to me. Slowly sliding his delicately long fingers into mine nearly carved ones, he held my hand and walked through the crowd to the principal's office. Everyone had their eyes on us and the world knew, Noah had a girlfriend but right now he was walking with me and it was lightening every corner of the corridors.

"Why are you guys here?" Liam asked stopping Noah in between, "Woah, Sister-in-law, your hand fits perfectly in my brother's palm!"

"Shut up!" Noah warned him, "You better think about yourself."

"What is there to think about?" Riri showed up looking too hot to handle, "Its crystal clear. I don't want pets-especially idiot pets." She glared at Liam.

"Yeah, I'm not looking for a grumpy owner anyway." He attacked back, "she is more like a-unm-beauty with hot psycho personality."

"You're a Besharam, so..." She smiled almost grabbing his collar.

"Ehm, may we leave?" I spoke up finally.

"Where to?" Riri asked glaring at us.

Noah calmly took a deep breath and replied, "To the Devil who gave birth to you beauties and handed them to us for killing us slowly with surprise bombs."

"That's not how it is." I glared at him taking my hand out of his grip, "You better watch out Mr Martin, I really am not in a mood."

"What's going on?" Pete jumped into the scene parting me from Noah, "Ah, Beauty." He complimented twinkling at Riri.

"Getaway!" I flicked my fingers in front of his eyes, "Don't even dream about her."

"I only dream of you." He smiled reaching out to touch my hair when I simply tossed it away with my purse.

"Oops, that's why you can only dream." Liam laughed.

"Anyway, Dad must be waiting for you," Riri whispered.

My eyes dig deeper into her skin, "What? Why?"

"You'll know soon." Pete laughed.

"He knows?" I gasped.

"Well, apparently I was one of the contenders for being your husband, but your Dad had other sources." He mocked glaring at Noah.

Noah flinched his eyebrows as he uttered a snort, "Its good to know you're aware of losing your battles. You must stick with your loss."

"You!" Pete came onto hit him.

"What you?" Jade jumped out of nowhere grabbing Pete's collar.

"Let go!" Caleb said softly passing by. What? How can he be so calm in such situations?

"Guys, cool down." Liam smirked, "he is on his own, Bennett brothers usually don't stick together."

"What the..?" Pete groaned.

"Let the bastard go." I sighed, "Anyway, he was never my type and it feels awkward to have people fight for me."

"What?" All the boys glared especially Noah.

"What? Can't you see, I'm just too good for any of you." I stormed out through the corridors floating my blonde hair spreading the scent of old books. I might act soft, but just a simple old and rusty registrar can't break me. I'm not fragile.
