20. The bet
"What was in the letter?" Lele asked jumping out of nowhere as soon as the teacher left.
I rolled my eyes and gave the chit to her. She read it and looked at Liam in shock. I turned to face him when I saw he had been drawing characters on my hoodie. "What are you doing?"
He turned me around and continued to draw, "revenging? Why?"
"Revenging?" I questioned turning around again, "For what?"
"For destroying my favorite T-shirt in 2nd standard." He winked. "Don't move, it's almost done."
"Have you gone nuts?" I squealed. "It was years ago!"
"My favorite things never change! Ever!" He said hitting me with his index finger.
"Ouch!" I cried pushing him away.
"Aww, you both are so cute! I totally ship them." Venicia's side chick, Emma, clapped her hands giggling along the other girls surrounded who just happened to be surrounding us too.
"She is hitting me Berry..," Liam pouted, "...you think that's cute?"
"Berry?" I asked turning to find all the girls blush.
"He calls us with unique names." Venicia finally made her debut in the torturing team. "I think it's cute. And the girls think what I think." She stretched her arms to welcome all the girls in a group hug.
"I'm gonna puke." I rolled my eyes turning to Lele. "Can we leave?"
She nodded picking up her bag and helped me stand as I struggled to wipe away the ink. After Miael exposed me, half of the popular girls began to treat me like a Queen, for example, Venicia! She practically became obsessed with me.
Avoiding the girls, I tried to escape the nuisance they had been creating while shipping me with Laim.
I kept on rubbing my jacket trying to remove the ink when the scent of lavender caught me off guard, "So, where are we going?" Ryan asked.
I glared at his jawline stiffen as a smirk crawled his face. I didn't know what to think except drool over his mysterious eyes. "What?" I murmured.
"You never said a no," he smiled leaning closer to my eyes, "so I take it as a yes, for the date."
"Ryan Bennette." Liam called pulling my bag backward dragging me along. "I'm not sure if we have talked about this before but I'm pretty sure, the treaty says you can't have eyes on what belongs to the Martin's."
Ryan pulled his sleeves up taking a step forward, "A woman is not a thing, she can't belong to anyone. It's her choice."
Liam's playful face disappeared, he pulled up his sleeves as well taking a step forward, "see there's where you went wrong." He forced a little laugh pulling me in front, "This one is not a woman. It's an elf and a..." he rested his arm on my head, "...and a very comfortable arm-rester."
"What?" I yelled pushing him away.
Ryan laughed running his slickering fingers into his hair, "I thought I was your arm-rester."
"Wait, what?" I asked looking at both of them in confusion as they side hugged each other laughing together. Lele clicked a picture of the epic moment and giggled drooling along with other girls.
"Hey, I'm Ryan." He extended his hand, "Liam's best friend."
My eyes flickered continuously trying to digest the sudden revelation. "Aren't you a Bennette?"
"Not all Bennette boys are enemies." He winked still stretching his hand out.
"C'mon, he won't bite," Liam said giving my hand in his.
I swiftly did a handshake, his touch was going to stay for a while. I hadn't seen a guy who had so much depth in his eyes. They were not serene but mysterious.
"So you pulled a prank on me?" I asked.
"I wish, but I'm not like Liam." He smiled, "I mean 0it when I say you're beautiful and I mean it that I want to take you on a date but not on the cost of my friendship."
I pull my hand back in confusion, "I really don't understand."
He ran his fingers into his hair again and left patting Liam's back. "See you around, Renaldi."
"What was that," I asked, "Are you using boys to pick over me now?"
"I'm not that shrill." Liam smirked, "I would rather lock you with Noah for a day and make you suffer his silence than get you offers for dates."
He began to walk away but I was not done talking to him just yet. I grabbed his arm and forgetting about his heavy body pulled him back towards me. His body collapsed into mine as I almost fell but I managed to grip his shirt in time. My nails were too sharp, I guessed, as I heard his shirt screech while tearing open.
"Eleanor, Eleanor, Eleanor." He said shaking his head as his beautifully gorgeous and breathtaking body began to shimmer in my eyes. "How have my favorite shirts ever offended you?"
"Oops!" I bit my lips, turning around forgetting my nails were still holding the pieces of his shirt. The left of cloth also got torn out as I tried to move away. The screeching sound continued until I finally had the pieces separated from his shirt. "I'm sorry."
Liam rolled his eyes picking up his jacket. He threw it to my face and began to undress the few pieces of his shirt hanging onto his muscles like someone falling from the cliff, right in front of all the students in the class.
"Oh my God!" Venecia panicked.
"This is officially the best day!" Lele began to click pictures again.
"Ahhh!" The girls continued to yell, giggle, chuckle, laugh and faint out of excitement.
His perfectly edged body was like a treat, and we drooled over him as hungry lionesses. It was like a slow-motion movie going on and if that was not enough, the scent of dawn was like Nutella being served with the label, eat as much as you want, no weight gain, guaranteed!
He threw his completely destroyed shirt on my face too before snatching his jacket. The undressing was like a slow song but as soon as he began to wear the jacket, it was over before I could even blink.
"You do know I'm going to make you pay for this." He said tightening his jawline.
I blinked twice before turning around and walking away leaving him alone with the girls. What I had just witnessed had brought my hormones to a confusion. It was like my body was on fire and my heart was bouncing in my chest trying to rush back in time and get stuck on that vulnerable yet eyeful scene.
I took a few classes completely lost in the scene that reminded me I'm a girl and Liam is now a hot guy! I avoided him as much as I could but there was no way he was not going to stumble into me. It was finally recess and I was sitting in the cafeteria waiting for Lele.
"But I'm telling you, she suits the best with Jade." I heard Emma talk. I tilted my head a little to find Venicia and her group of girls sitting beside me. They were discussing something in a very serious tone.
"Someone suits my brother, that too Jade?" Liam asked sitting in front of me.
"Liam!" The girls rejoiced, clapping their hands.
I buried my head beneath my hair in frustration. This school was driving my nerves black and crazy!
Venicia stood up and went to sit beside him. "Well, I think she suits him so much they're going to end up married."
"Who is she?" Lele asked joining me with her team of girls. Thank God!
I dug into my plate feeding myself some garlic bread.
"Who else? It's Mimin!" Emma said excitedly.
I chocked on my food. Not just me, Liam did too.
"What?" We asked in chorus glaring at each other.
"Oh please, Jade is no fit for Mimin! She hates him!" Lele yelled stomping the table. All our plates lifted up a little and fell back in their original position because of her temper.
I gulped a glass of water quickly trying to sync in this new topic. "Lele's right. There's no chance Mimin and Jade would ever be a couple, let alone getting married."
"Please, I'm so sure about it, I could bet my Liam on it," Venicia smirked combing her hair calmly.
"Woah?" Liam gasped, "You are using me as bait?"
"Nope, I'm telling you the sincerity of the situation here." She smiled.
"Alright then, I'm also ready to put my Riri as a bait! There's no chance Mimin and Jade could end up married." Lele negotiated.
I turned to look at her in shock. "Why me?"
"Because I know how much you both repel each other so I'm ready to bet that if Mimin and Jade end up getting married, Liam and Riri will marry each other!" She declared proudly.
Noah, who was sitting at a corner listening to all this conversation while typing on his laptop leaned a little on the table taking a little more interest.
"No!" Liam and I yelled together.
"Why should I marry him?" I questioned standing up.
"Why should I marry her?" Liam questioned too still sitting.
"Why shouldn't you?" Lele pulled me back to my seat, "Aren't you my friend?"
"Sounds like a fair deal, we ship you both anyway," Venicia smirked.
"But why us?" Liam asked again.
"Why not you? Are you afraid that Jade and Mimin are really going to end up together?" Lele questioned pointing her folk at his eyes.
"Well, I'm sure they won't. But I don't mess with fate. And Riri is famous for losing bets. It's insane." He reasoned and I swear he never sounded so smart before.
"Then do it! And Riri can lose but you can't! Believe in yourself!" Lele encouraged. "I'm firm on my bet if Mimin and Jade get married Liam and Riri will marry each other. End of argument."
Noah finally stood up from his seat and walked towards us with a paper, "So, are you up for the bet?" He asked us.
"Fine. But just because I know about their relationship." Liam rolled his eyes, "besides this way I don't get to be stuck with her forever."
"This seems like a bet I can win. I'm in." I agreed.
"Fine, sign the contract. I want to know how this turns out." Noah tapped on the paper keeping it in front of us.
Seriously? But as long as I'm sure Mimin won't ever take Jade as her husband, I can count on her. I signed the paper without even thinking twice and so did Liam. That was the wrath of even imagining the two of them together. Although I knew, Mimin might have feelings for him but after what he has done to our family, she would never agree to it while she was in her senses.
And for me, this was the best way to not fall into the Martins trap like Mieal, so this way I get to be at a safer distance from Liam.
