From Dusk Till Arora.
Arora had them eating out of the palm of her hand as she spun about the pole, flicking her leg up to showcase her flexibility. The crowd whooped and cheered as the bass heavy Love Song by Korn boomed from the speakers. The performance was electric, a real knockout show. This was her song, it wasn't the usual music that dancers used, it was a little more obscure but was still appealing to the masses. It helped her stand out, not that she needed music for that. With short, dark, hair, fashioned into a mohawk and nails painted black, her skin was pale by comparison and she topped it all off with dark purple lipstick.
The song finished and the show was over for now. Arora returned to mingling with the customers, being nice and giving them that little bit off sas when it was needed. The establishment was a good one and she loved her job. It was tiring and it certainly wasn't for everyone but it was fun. The boss was good, handling things well so the dancing girls never had to worry. The girls, well they were great too. A real tight group who supported each other and made the atmosphere vome alive.
There was a brief pause in the background music which Arora recognised as a sign that the next dance was ready. Picking a good spot to watch the show, she yelled out "Go girl." As her best friend's song started with a bang and the lead singer chanted "Do ya really wanna. Do ya really wanna taste it?." It was a perfect song for the club and it got attention fast. Everything stopped and everyone focused on the show as a red haired, short girl strutted her stuff. Danielle was a pocket rocket, if ever there was one. When the dance finished, the DJ cheekily threw on Christian Kane's Whiskey in Mind as a not so subtle reminder for people to grab another and Arora helped by bussing on the floor.
As the night wore on the songs took a slower pace and the clientele either had their fill and left, or hung on, but slowed down as the night turned into the morning. The patrons were almost overstaying their welcome now, the girls repeatedly telling them they had boyfriends, regardless of if they did or not as a way to discourage the hopefuls. The job was less about customer service now and more menial tasks like collecting glasses, stacking chairs and wiping tables. The girls worked together to get things done so they could all leave together.
The club was supposed to close at one am but there were stragglers to shoo away, it was half past, by the time she got to her car in the secure parking area and managed to get away. It was only a short drive home and she would be there before two. She was tired but was looking forward to seeing her boyfriend Dexter. It was always nice to have someone to come home to and as much as she loved work and the scene, Dex was a refreshing change.
Arora fit her key into the dead bolt and dropped her stuff on the floor inside the door, just as soon as she stepped over the threshold. Something smelled nice, and Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse played loudly. She moved through the archway and into the living space where she could see her boyfriend Dexter singing and preparing food. "You're home!" He called out, putting down the knife he was using to cut salad and greeted her with a peck of a kiss.
"How was work? The bath is hot and ready if you want to get in straight away." He offered. "Or you can wait and eat first."
"Work was work-like and I could definitely go a bath." Arora smiled, gripping him in a warm embrace that she held just long enough that it wasn't awkward. "Total Eclipse huh, you trying to tell me something?"
"What?" Dex asked, confused.
"Don't you think about the lyrics at all." Arora laughed.
"This is just my random playlist for when I'm doing stuff." He smiled, "I know it's not your style."
"Hey, I like all sorts." She retorted. "At least it's the original version."
"Do you want me to put on something else?"
"No, it's just fine as it is. I like it." Arora reassured him. "But I am going to go have that bath." And with that she kissed his cheek and made her way to the bathroom.
There was no special occasion but the bathroom was lit by candles and the water was bubbly with some kind of bath bomb fizzing in the tub. It was perfect she thought as she stripped and slid into the warm water, letting the stress of work and life just melt away. Work paid well and she had spent a lot of money on getting the bath she wanted, it was worth every cent. The free-standing tub with a head rest was deep enough to have water all the way up to her neck and not have knees sticking out. The music was muted by the wall but Arora could still make out Oasis playing in the background as she started to almost nod off.
Before she could fall asleep in the bath and drown, Dex was there rubbing her shoulders and neck. She hadn't heard him come in but the door was open and the massage was to die for. He stupidly kissed the top of her head as he knelt behind her, but it felt so good to have someone who just cared. He didn't do it every night and it wasn't that he wanted something either, it was just that he cared and could sense that she needed the attention. Her body ached for more when his hands left her shoulders but it was only so he could move around the bath and sit on the edge beckoning for a leg. Arora complied by lifting a leg over his head and putting it across his lap. She hadn't seen it earlier but he must have had a towel ready to go and after a quick wipe he started massaging her foot and calf. Having one leg up meant her head was down and the water came up past her chin but it was comfortable and just fine. Somehow Dexter managed to not make it feel rushed as he went from leg to leg, and then back again to her neck.
"Are you ready for dinner?'' he asked. "I can finish it while you get dressed."
"You're going to make me get dressed?" She smiled jokingly.
"Dressing gown?" He motioned to one.
"That's a robe thank you very much." She feigned outrage "I'm two generations away from wearing a dressing gown."
"Maybe we can work on that after." Dex joked cheekily.
"Maybe we can." Arora smiled back seductively as he held out a hand and helped her stand.
Dinner was a well cooked steak and salad. Dex was a good cook and somewhat reasonable conversationalist too. He could argue with passion about issues and talk about anything she was interested in without zoning out. His job as a writer meant he was interested in a range of things but more importantly could be up at three am when she got home from work. Sometimes he would come to the club and watch her shows, but she liked the fact that he didn't have to be there every time, that he trusted her and respected her autonomy. She also appreciated that he wasn't the kind of guy who obsessed over it or felt he had to prove anything. He was a softer person, enjoying the finer things too. It was a stark contrast to her work but it was the switch between the two worlds that made her life feel complete. Tomorrow they would sleep late into the afternoon and share breakfast before he would disappear and write.
The Bangles Eternal Flame started and he held out his hand at the perfect moment right as Susanna Hoffs sang the words, "give me your hand." He couldn't have planned it but she appreciated his quickness to take opportunities when they came up. Together they stood and he pulled her close for a kiss. Arora took the cue and started pushing him back towards the bedroom while keeping the kiss going. It was an awkward and fun game, which was perfect as she was ready to switch the mood to playful now anyway. He staggered back down the hallway trying to be careful as he went and she tried her best to distract him more. It had been a great night, very relaxing but now she was ready to spend some pent up energy before going to sleep. Arora pulled her robe open, let it fall to the floor in the hall and pushed Dex into the bedroom.
