The Beast

This morning wasn't the greatest. After Legosi decided to spend some time with Jack and Durham, the news channel reported another devouring incident. The two herbivores they were currently playing checkers left, upon hearing the news. Jack was visibly troubled by this, his tail drooping lifelessly.

"We're getting too used to this, aren't we...?" Spoke Durham.

Jack was looking depressed. "Why does one Prick have to ruin it for all of us?"

"Let's not dwell on it, buddy... are you hungry? I could go for some watermelon right about now." Legosi's words attempted to raise his mood, at least by a little bit.

"That sounds delicious," Durham began to rub his stomach. "Let's go."

The three made their way towards the cafeteria, Jack still being comforted by his friends. Legosi was rubbing jack's shoulder when the smell of Juno became noticeable, but... something was wrong. The smell stung at his nose. It wasn't the same inviting scent as usual... She was under stress. Legosi darted off towards the source of the smell.

"Where the heck are you going!?"

Legosi didn't hear Jack, already being concentrated on Juno. He rounded a corner and finally saw the cause of the scent. Two male students had grabbed her by the arm, pulling her violently towards them.

"Let me GO!" Fear... he smelt her fear. The scent only heightened the amusement of the two bullies.

"The leader of the group that devoured that gazelle was a wolf, wasn't it? Why don't you show us who you truly are..."

"I'm not like that! Let me go!" she cried out.

Rage burned in his veins, fogging his senses. Before he knew it, he'd already stomped towards them, his face twisted into a hateful expression, bearing his teeth.

"If you're a real gray wolf, then show us your true nat-" The bully wouldn't be able to finish that sentence. He was too busy taking a powerful kick to the side, knocking the wind out of him. He landed on the floor, wheezing while trying to catch his breath. The large growling predator loomed over him, picking him up by the collar. The bully himself was a carnivore, the new sensation of wanting to flee was alien to him. Before he could open his mouth, he flew down the hall, crashing into his companion.

He groaned, trying to compose himself as he tried to stand up. His side, still hurting from the first kick. It felt like his ribs had fractured. Another kick sent him back to the ground. He saw his friend also trying to stand back up, the large wolf shoved his friend into him.

The two were yowling in pain now, scrambling to their feet, crawling more than running. They held each other up, just barely, and began hobbling off.

When the two finally rounded the corner, Legosi immediately turned his attention back to Juno. She was still sitting on the floor, crying. He came closer, crouching down next to her. Still driven by instinct, he couldn't find the words he wanted to say. He took her in his arms, embracing her tightly.

Legosi had just beaten up two bullies in front of her. The shock of the sudden outburst made her shiver slightly, but when he crouched down next to her, hugging her, his elevated heartbeat showed just how important she was to him.

"Thank you," she said softly, her face wet with tears. He embraced her tighter, not wanting to let go. He stood up, still in the tight embrace, pulling her to her feet. He gently wiped the tears off her face. His arms once again reached around her, hugging her for a second time.

"Next time I'll be here sooner," he promised softly.

"It wasn't your fault," she replied, speaking just as quietly. He loosened up, separating from the hug once more.

"You better get a friend to accompany you to your class for the time being... I'll bring you to your next."

After escorting Juno to her next class, where he made sure that another friend of hers could accompany her to the other classes. After all that, he finally returned to the cafeteria. Jack and Durham were sitting at a table. The two had brought an extra plate of watermelon for Legosi. Legosi sat down, anger and aggression still burning through his veins.

"What's going on?" Jack asked, noticing Legosi's off-kilter scent. Legosi bit down on a piece, the sweet taste calming his nerves.

"Two assholes decided to torment my girlfriend." Durham and Jack looked at each other. They had never seen Legosi as angry as he was now.

"Is she ok?" Durham asked, looking genuinely worried. Legosi took another bite, the taste flooding his burning mind in cool satisfaction. "She is... Thankfully." He had now calmed down for the most part. If he saw these pricks again, he wouldn't know what he'd do. All he knows is that no one should ever dare to hurt her again, or it would be the last thing they do...

The next thing for the day was the second-years only meeting in the Drama Club. The discussion involved how only carnivores were allowed to go get the plans for the festival, the news of the next devoured herbivore having increased the safety measures of the school.

The ensuing discussion of unfairness being completely ignored by Legosi, his mind still circling the two who had decided to torment Juno. The discussion was suddenly cut off by Louis.

"You know how dangerous it can be out there, and before I let you go out there, you need to know one thing." He was now addressing the four carnivores in front of him. "Don't you even think about going to the Black Market." The deer left the Room, for the Conversation was over.

What did he mean by Black... Market?

It was long after dark when he, Bill, Tao, and Aoba had talked about where they had to go tomorrow. In the city center was the Town Hall, in which they had to get the plans for this year. All the while they were asking each other what the Black Market was. Aoba and Bill both were well versed about the secret Market place in the city, but they withheld the information from the others.

Now he was in Juno's dorm, her roommates currently away for home visits. They laid together in her bed, the she-wolf laying closely, snuggled up to his side, her arms around him. They did this often, whenever they knew that their dorms were free to do so.

"I hope no one else caused you any trouble today." He was still thinking about the two, the situation hadn't left his head since it happened. She smiled as she came closer to his face, her hand caressing his face.

"That was a one-time thing, no one will hurt me if they know that I have a tall, handsome boyfriend protecting me." She kissed him, the familiar warmth putting him at ease. He squeezed her a bit.

"Anyone else tries the same, and I will..." he didn't know what to say here. He'd surely hurt them good, but definitely not kill them. He was at a loss of words. "Let's just hope they won't try again. For their own sakes," he said. They laid there for a moment, just the two of them enjoying the tranquility.

After he noticed that Juno had begun to snore, he tucked her in and left for his dorm. After he was walking a bit, he heard footsteps rapidly approaching him. The scent he was smelling immediately informed him of who was ambushing him. The wolf swung around, baring his fangs as he looked at the bully who had stopped in their tracks, the rage that had fueled them to ambush him quickly dissapated. It was replaced by fear, an expression of Terror on his face. It wasn't the same bully that he had kicked earlier, though. The scent of that bully had entered his nose a moment too late. He immediately felt a hard punch to the back of his head. He sank to the ground, the Anger quickly reentering his system as it forced his foggy mind to clarity.

As the leader behind was about to kick him as Legosi had prior, but the sheer speed of the beast within would not let him do so. The punch he delivered to the bully's gut almost knocking his lights out. He sank to the same level as the wolf, painfully clutching his stomach. His eyes wandered to his friend who tried to attack while Legosi was distracted, but once again, The Beast caught his foot before it could connect and quickly twisted his ankle, the screams signaling that it had successfully sprained.

The leader cowered on the ground, his friend had lost consciousness due to the pain. He looked up slightly as he began to see double. The Beast grabbed his face, holding it upward, staring him in the eye.

"I'm... s-sorry," he whimpered. The alien feeling of running away had set in again. The next punch sent him to the ground, knocking him out.

Legosi reached his dorm exhausted and without much recollection of what had just happened. He sank into his covers, leaving him to his thoughts.

He thought back to when he defended Juno. He thought about what he did to those bullies. And to be honest, a small part of him was afraid of himself. Never in his seventeen years of life had he let out that much sheer rage and aggression on someone. He knew it was to protect Juno, but still...

Later that night, the two bullies were found, one had fractured ribs and a broken jaw. The other had a halfway fractured ankle. The two were asked who had done this to them, but the two feigned amnesia. The thought of The Beast putting them in a state of pure terror.
