Lover's appreciation
Juno and Legosi sat together on a bench, looking upwards at the tranquil night sky. Juno sat upon Legosi's lap, turned sideways, facing him. The two wolves hadn't spoken a word since the performance. Not a word needed to be said. They stared at the sky, all the stars seemed to shine brighter just for them. They looked back at each other and shared a kiss, holding each other close. She seemed to fit perfectly in his arms, holding her, as if it physically hurt to not have contact. She leaned into him, resting her face on his chest, feeling his every breath and heartbeat.
They didn't know what time it was, nor did they care. Time slowed down with every kiss. Legosi now knew what that energizing feeling deep inside was. The immense amount of love in his heart, swelling, and spreading every time they held eye contact. He sighed.
"How long have you been feeling this way about me?" his voice was quiet, not wanting to disturb her. She looked him in the eyes. There was a sparkle she saw in them, one she had only started to see after they had first kissed.
"Probably the moment I met you at that fountain." She circled her arms behind his neck. "You were the first one that was ever actually nice to me here." Her amethyst eyes seemed to give off a glow, a warm and natural one. Their lips met again, the warm feeling letting the butterflies out and inviting love inside.
"Whoever hurt you was a fool. No one should hurt a kind, beautiful creature like you." Their eyes remained fixated on each other. He closed his own as he put his forehead to hers, squeezing her against his body, tight. He now understood what all the fuss about being in love was about. The she-wolf in his arms was a prime example of it.
Only once they had noticed how late it was, did they finally break apart. They kissed one last time and went their separate ways. Legosi put his hands into his pockets, kicking the dirt on the pathway as he strolled along. His tail wagged energetically, as he hummed an old love song his grandfather once taught him. He felt at peace... an aura of love surrounding him. Every time he thought of her, he became weak in the legs, and his heart fluttered. He smiled as he wandered down the pathway back to his dorm.
The bulk of the next day was full of studying and catching up on their classes. The play's run had ended, and Legosi still had his education to take care of, but, although the tasks were indeed boring and repetitive, he never complained. Later on, he and Jack walked down the halls towards the last of their classes for the day.
"You know... you seem a lot less depressed than usual," he noticed.
"Yeah... things have just seemed to... go right for me recently." Legosi had a smile on his face, and he didn't hunch over as much as usual.
"Hmmm... would this happen to have something to do with that She-wolf that joined the Drama club?" Legosi stood still, stiffening up for a brief moment. Jack walked right past him, wagging his tail from left to right. "The tail wags back and forth, maybe I'm in love! Le- Le- Legosi." He stopped and turned around starring at his friend. Has he just outed himself?
"Seriously?! You, who didn't have a girlfriend once in their life, is suddenly in love? I'm so happy for you!" The smaller dog hugged his friend. "You gotta tell me more about her! Is she cute? What is she like? Is she showing interest too?" Jack flooded Legosi with questions after question as they continued walking, Legosi picking up the pace a bit.
"More than just interest, alright." What did he just say? He cursed himself a moron as Jack caught on to what he just said.
"More than just interest? Are you already a couple?! You can't leave me hanging like this. Tell me! Tell me!" Jack was overly excited, making it a bigger deal than it needed to be. The wolf ignored his friend's request as he continued walking down the hall.
After surviving the final class of the day with Jack practically breathing down his neck about Juno, Legosi was relieved to finally be in the Drama Club.
All the other members have already gathered in front of Louis, who was leaning on his crutches. Legosi quickly joined with the group as Louis began his speech.
"Now that all of us are finally here, I can begin. You have all done terrific work for this play. The amount of effort put in by all is certainly commendable. Especially those who haven't acted on stage before." Bill patted Legosi on the shoulder, smiling at him. The wolf nodded and smiled back. "I want to thank all of you for being strong even in the wake of a tragedy." Legosi looked down, his smile turning to a slight frown until he was once again distracted by the fruity smell of Juno. As he looked in her direction, he saw her look just as unhappy as he had been before. If someone decided to use Tem's murder as an excuse to bully her again, that would be the last thing they do. He swore to it.
"None the less. The Drama Club keeps delivering the best it can. We are still working together, even if the rest of this school- the rest of the world even, is losing hope, we will not give up. Is that clear?"
The group members spoke in unison. "Yes, sir," the crew answered their captain.
After Louis's speech had ended, the day was wrapped up. Legosi saw Juno leave the club, and happily he approached her.
"Hello there, my love." What he said was quite cheesy, but it had the desired effect of making her blush.
"Hey, Legosi." She smiled for a second, only to frown again. Legosi embraced her, kissing her. He wanted to wipe away any and all sadness that had formed during Louis's speech.
"I had a busy day, want to go eat something? With me, that is..." He asked, holding out his hand. She grasped it tightly.
"Of course I do," she answered.
Walking together, they went to the cafeteria. Legosi sat down opposite of her. The sadness that Louis caused was still present. He grabbed her hand again, staring her in the eyes.
"Seeing you be sad about a crime you didn't commit makes me sad too," said Legosi. A glistening tear rolled down her eye.
"It is just not fair. That poor alpaca didn't do anything wrong other than being born a herbivore, which he had no choice over." Her words resonated with him. He tried to think of a way to cheer her up.
"You know... he was a good friend of mine... I remember one very specific thing that I was brooding over, right before I met you." He smiled at her reassuringly. "He had a love letter, for Els, the other alpaca in the Drama Club." He frowned too now. The memory of knowing that Ten would never be able to tell her in person hurt to think about.
"I gave it to her for him, after... you know... after everything that'd happened..." A single tear dropped on his tray. "If you'd like to...we could bring flowers to his memorial. I know the rabbit up in the Gardening Club... we could go get flowers from her." Juno smiled at the idea. "That would be delightful... thank you."
The idea really cheered her up. She smiled even more now, happy to have such a considerate boyfriend.
After they had finished their dinner, they made their way up to the Gardening Club. Legosi couldn't seem to find her at first, so he went off to look in the shed where she'd taken him before. He knocked on the door. None of them could have expected to see Louis answer. Awkward seconds of eye contact ensued.
"W- What are you doing here?" Legosi had talked first.
"I could ask the same of you..." Louis's reply was cold, but the context of the situation was more than confusing. He could smell his perfume... and the rabbit... but the smell was more intense than usual. Not as much bite as her stressed smell but stronger than the general odor she gave off.
"Well... we wanted to get flowers... to bring to Tem's memorial." Louis's expression changed, the cold and annoyed glare was replaced by a face of understanding and sympathy.
"The wolf with a heart of gold... maybe you aren't pretending after all," Louis muttered under his breath. Now Legosi noticed another detail, the first two buttons of his shirt were opened. Overall... his Jacket, pullover, suspenders, and tie were missing...
"Juno... is there a reason your accompanying Legosi?" The deer was curious, just as curious as Legosi himself was now.
"I guess I was just a bit sad by your words about Tem... and Legosi noticed. So, to cheer me up, he proposed we bring flowers to Tem's memorial." She explained away her presence, but Louis probably knew that already.
"Where is that rabbit that runs this club anyway?" Legosi inquired.
"You mean Haru? She already went to her dorm. I just... wanted to take an evening stroll through the garden," Louis explained, the usual cold and calculated tone returning to his voice. "Well, how about you go and pick a few of those tulips over there. She has way too many of those." How did he know that? it seemed as if only Haru had access to the lists of flowers... she must have told him, trusting him enough to be up here alone. They must trust each other pretty well.
Legosi and Juno picked a couple of Orange Tulips and walked to the door.
"Well then... Enjoy your evening walk." Legosi said, still plagued by the curiosity of what he was truly doing up here.
"I shall. Have a good evening," with that, Louis closed the door. The wolves looked at each other, both were equally confused.
He was clearly hiding something, but what? Legosi asked himself while walking down the corridor, Juno at his side.
"The light in the storage shed was on... What was he doing in there?" Juno asked. He scratched his head. "I didn't even notice that." Both came to a halt in front of the memorial, a fresh bundle of roses present by Tem's Costume. The smell of Louis's perfume was still in the air. He was here, not too long ago.
Legosi offered Juno the flowers.
"I'll give you the honor." she swooned again. He was so kind and helpful, always there when you needed him. After setting the flowers down, she felt lighter. The same effect Legosi had felt not too long ago when he left the costume here. Juno stood up, her eyes lingering on the Tem's photo as she returned to his side. He scooted closer, putting an arm around her. After a few seconds, she hugged him, thankful for his considerate nature.
"Thank you... I needed that."
He held her close. "Everyone needs a little help sometimes." She grabbed his collar and pulled him closer. She brought his lips to hers. The feeling she felt was best described as deep-rooted appreciation. They both separated. Left smiling and cheerful.
After escorting her back to her dorm and returning to his own, there was one question left that followed him into his dreams. What was Louis doing up there... barely clothed...
