Chapter 2
Wendy
Waking up with bright lights shining in your face isn't fun at all. I looked around the room I was in. It was obviously for a hospital. I was in a large black t-shirt with my undergarments still on. No one else was in the room, but I could guess that the men in the forest put me here.
The door opened, and in walked one of the six men with two women following him. "Hello" one of the woman said kindly. She had black hair that fell right above her shoulders. She was also holding a clipboard, so she's probably the doctor. "I'm Dr. Bradshaw" she informed me.
I nodded. "Wendy" I introduced myself. I looked at the other woman and the man, waiting for some introduction.
The man sighed and held his hand out for me to shake. "I'm Beta Mitchell Locke" he stated. "This is Alpha Beverly Carvalho" my eyes widened when he said 'Alpha.' I just noticed the power that radiated off the two of them, especially the girl.
I wonder how that works. She's an Alpha; but when she gets her mate, I don't think he'll want to be Luna. Would they both be Alphas? By the looks of it, Alpha Beverly takes her job seriously. And I don't think she would want to give up her position.
Beta Mitchell cleared his throat, pulling me from my thoughts. Bowing my head, I quickly apologized for coming onto their land. "It's no problem" Alpha Beverly spoke up. "I was actually going to suggest that you join my pack" she stated. The doctor quietly excused herself.
"That's really nice of you, but I don't think that's a good idea" I stated. "I'm not a threat to you pack; it's just that I'm better off alone" I half-lied. I just have to tell part of the truth, so they don't know I'm lying. The real truth is, I don't want to be here when they find out that I have a Royal Mark.
They both raised their eyebrows in a questioning manner. "You're better off alone?" she asked. I nodded my head. "Are you sure? Because you're dehydrated, you weight 92 pounds, you fell out of a tree, you have absolutely no clothes, and you're only 19"
I frowned. The doctor clearly shared my info with her. "I'm afraid that I will have to decline your offer" I said softly. "When can I leave?" I questioned.
Alpha Beverly sighed, she obviously didn't like my refusal. "If you insist on leaving, then I would suggest you stay until you are actually healthy. You can sleep in a guest room. You will be fed properly. And I'll find some clothes for you. When the doctor okays you, then you can leave" she declared.
I nodded in agreement. "Thank you. But is there something for me to do to repay you?" I asked. I'd rather not be in debt of an Alpha- or of anyone for that matter.
The Alpha looked at the Beta and they had a silent conversation. They weren't talking through the mind-link, but they did look like they were communicating in some way. Awhile later, they both turned to me. "If you really want to do something, the women could always use help watching all the kids" Beta Mitchell offered.
"You're gonna trust me with the pack children?" I inquired. The Beta raised a questioning eyebrow. "Not that you can't trust me with them. I would never hurt the kids. Or the women. Or the men. I'm just gonna stop talking now" I said, trailing off.
He rolled his eyes at me while the Alpha laughed quietly. "We know that you're not a threat. Even if you tried anything, it would be pretty easy to take you down. No offense" she stated.
She's right. The kids could probably beat me up. I'm not gonna lie. I'm weak. The only reason I'm alive is because I can run and hide. Literally. I run away from the people that try to kill me until I find a hiding spot. It's much easier than risking my life by trying to fight them.
"Earth to Wanda!" the Beta said while waving his hand in my face.
I scowled and pushed his hand away. "Wendy. My name is Wendy" I corrected him. He mumbled an apology, that I just ignored. "When do I start babysitting?" I asked.
The Alpha smiled. "After you answer a few questions" she stated. I motioned for her to go on. "You don't have to answer all of them, if you don't want to"
Nodding in understanding, I waited for her to start the interrogation. "How long have you been rogue?" she asked.
"About a year, I think. Um... I don't have a calendar; so I don't really know for sure" I said slowly.
Alpha Beverly nodded and Beta Mitchell asked a question. Damn. Their names are so long. "Why'd you become rogue?" he inquired.
I sighed. "I was infatuated with my Alpha. Long story short, he banished me" I stated. I'll just leave out the part about the Mark and him being a king- for now at least.
Beta Mitchell smirked. "Well, everyone finds Alphas desirable" he said as Alpha Beverly rolled her eyes, but a faint blush covered her cheeks.
I see a spark between them! "Are you guys mates?" I blurted.
The Alpha turned into a full-blown tomato, and the Beta smiled. "We're supposed to be the ones asking the questions" he said in a stern voice. I'll take that as a 'yes' then. "What pack did you come from?" he went back to the interrogation.
I shook my head. "I'll pass that question" I stated.
They didn't seem to mind my refusal. "When was the last time you ate?" the Alpha asked.
"Last week?" I said, but it came out as a question. It has at least been five days, I know that for sure. Werewolves can go about two months without eating, before they starve to death. I'm not close to dying; but I'm malnourished since I eat small portions.
Alpha Beverly nodded her head with a frown on her face. "Okay. One last question" she stated. "How long have your emotions been off?" she questioned.
After the initial shock of her knowing, I answered. "About five months" they nodded, but continued to stare at me. I guess they want some kind of explanation. "I had to do things to survive, and I couldn't handle the guilt" I informed them. "Now, I have one question" I stated.
They nodded their heads, agreeing to answer. "Does you pack know that you guys are mates?" I inquired.
Unsurprisingly, they shook their heads. "And we will appreciate it if you didn't tell anyone" the Beta said in a stern voice, so it was basically a demand. I wasn't even planning on telling anyone, anyways. I mean, I don't even have anyone to tell.
I rolled my eyes. "So. Should I start babysitting? Or do you have more questions?" I asked.
**********************************************************************************************
This pack is pretty cool. I don't know what the pack is named. I didn't have time to ask anybody, since there were like a million kids to look after. Maybe that's a bit exaggerated; but there were a lot of kids.
I did find out that there's about a hundred people in this pack, and about 30 of them are kids. There were five women that were watching the children with me. We finally got to go home around seven p.m.
Even though I really want to, I can't sleep yet. Apparently, I have an appointment with my doctor. I don't even remember her name. I think it started with a V or maybe it was a B.
Anyways, I'm on my way to the hospital level of the pack house. This has got to be the biggest pack house I've ever seen. They have a whole level for the hospital, a level for all the teens, a level for unmated females, a level for unmated males, a level for all the mates, and a level for the Alpha and Beta.
Surprisingly, both the Alpha and Beta don't have families. One of the women told me that their parents died at the same war, and they didn't have any siblings. However, that could just be a rumor. Just like it was rumored that I'm the Beta's mate.
The only reason that they think that I'm here is because I'm his mate. Which was kinda funny because their Alpha is their Beta's mate. Its confusing and unusual; but I think that they can work everything out.
"Hello, Wendy" the doctor said as I walked into her office. She motioned for me to sit down, and I eased into the leather chair. "How are you feeling?" she asked.
I shrugged. "Okay, I guess. I haven't heard from my wolf, though" I informed her. I can feel her, but I can't reach her.
The doctor didn't look the slightest bit surprised. In fact, she actually looked relieved and proud? I stared at her and she randomly started laughing. And I'm not talking about small giggles. She had tears forming in her eyes. This bitch is crazy.
After she calmed herself down, she wiped her eyes and stood up straight. I guess she was trying to look professional after her laugh attack. "You're so naive. You see, Wendy. I already knew that you couldn't contact your wolf" she informed me. "I'm the one who altered the connection between you and your wolf"
What the fuck? She smiled as she got up from her seat. Slowly, she made her way over to me. I think she was supposed to be intimidating or taunting or something. But honestly, she looked psycho. She was grinning like the Cheshire cat.
"Do you think I would just let you walk around completely capable of hurting this pack?" she asked rhetorically. What is she even talking about? Didn't they already say that I wasn't a threat. With furrowed eyebrows, I shook my head.
The doctor rolled her eyes at my expression. In one swift movement, she pushed my shirt to reveal the Mark. I gasped and attempted to cover it back up. It was useless, but at least I tried. She grabbed my wrist and turned it making me hiss in pain. "Are you that stupid? We changed you for God's sake! Of course someone would see it!" she shouted in my face.
I cringed and wiggled my wrist, trying to get it out of her iron grip. I'm 100% sure that there will be a bruise the shape of her hand. She smiled at my struggle and threw my arm with so much force that it hit the desk. I'm pretty sure I heard a few bones break.
Cradling my hand to my chest, I whimpered; whilst the doctor acted like nothing happened. "This is how things are gonna go" she declared. "You will sneak out in a few nights. You will leave no trace of yourself. And you will never come back"
"And if I don't?" I challenged. Maybe not the right time to act confident; but she's threatening me!
She raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms over her chest. "Or I'll kill you right now and I'll cover it up" she stated nonchalantly. "Oh! There's always the option of calling the King and Queen. I'm sure they'll love to see you" she teased.
Frowning, I dropped my head in defeat. "I'll be gone in two days" I promised. The doctor nodded with a satisfied expression on her face.
She snatched my injured wrist. She purposefully put pressure on it. "Ice it and cover it up. We don't want anyone asking questions do we?" she inquired. I quickly nodded my head, wanting her to let go. She smiled triumphantly and dropped my wrist.
"Now get out my office"
