Chapter 14
Wendy
Surprise surprise. Tyson took me to Ben's. Ben's Burgers, Barbecue, and Bar. Oh. Memories. Sweet Memories. I laughed as we walked inside. Tyson shot me a questioning look, but I just waved him off. We were quickly seated by the same waitress who was serving Shane and I the first time I had come here. She didn't even try to cover up the glare that she was sending me.
Tyson even noticed it. "What'd you do to her?" he questioned once the waitress left after seating us. I simply rolled my eyes and focused on the menu. "Lemme guess. You came here with your mate. And she hates you"
I nodded. "Ding. Ding. Ding" I imitated a bell sound. "I don't even know what her problem is. So her crush is dating someone. Suck it up and stop being a child" I muttered. I looked up from the menu to see Tyson holding in his laughter. "Shut it. The girl is a bitch"
Someone cleared their throat next to me. Tyson howled with laughter, but the glare I sent in his direction quickly made him compose himself. "You might want to be nice to someone handling your food, you dumb slut" the waitress spat at me.
Wow. She really is a bitch. "You know what. I need to go to the ladies room. Tyson, can you order for me. Just get me what my boyfriend usually gets" I stated, emphasizing the word 'boyfriend'. Tyson nodded as I stood up from the booth. The waitress was scowling at me as I stood. I had to walk past her to get away from the table and she bumped shoulders with me.
I pursed my lips to stop myself from putting the bitch in her place. I walked to the front of the restaurant, where there was another worker. "Hi. Um... Is there a manager here?" I questioned with a smile.
The girl looked slightly panicked, but she nodded her head and disappeared into room.. The door was labeled 'employees only'. Soon enough, the girl returned with a man behind her. "Hello, sir" I said politely.
He smiled at me and shook my hand. "Hello. I'm the manager here. Is there a problem?" he asked with his eyebrows furrowed in concern.
I nodded my head making him frown. "I'm here with my friend and one of your waitresses seems to have a problem with me. I came here once before with my boyfriend. She glared at me whenever she came to our table. And now she just called me rude names that I would rather not repeat to you. She even shoved me when I tried to go to the bathroom" I informed him. It was slightly exaggerated. I mean she didn't shove me. But still, you're not supposed to be rude to customers.
"I'm deeply sorry to hear that. Which waitress is it?" he questioned, looking angry but still managing to be professional. I gestured to my table were Tyson was pointing at the menu and talking to the waitress. "Oh. Well, I will have a word with Bethany. And I promise you that there will not be any incidents like this again" he assured me.
Nodding, I thanked the manager and went back to the table. Tyson smiled at me while I sat down. Bethany was still here, writing on her little notepad thing. The waitress that was by that door came to our table and whispered something in Bethany's ear. Bethany handed the girl her notepad before she went into the employees only room. This waitress smiled at us as she reread what Tyson ordered- which was three orders of fries, three burgers, two strawberry milkshakes, two chocolate milkshakes, a beer, and a slab of ribs.
She quickly left to tell the chef out orders and whatnot. "Damn. That's a lot of food" I muttered. Tyson nodded and twiddled with his fingers in an excited manner. "Are you hungry?" I questioned. He nodded again, his hair slightly bouncing with the motion. "But you ate a shitload of bacon at Sarah's house" I reminded him.
He shrugged. "I'm a growing boy" he defended. I seriously doubt he's even considered a 'boy' anymore. "Um... Hi?" I looked up and followed his line of vision.
The manager was standing next to our table. "Hello. I just wanted to let you guys know that your meal is on the house. I apologize that you had to deal with rudeness from my worker" he said kindly.
I smiled at the man. "Thank you so much" he nodded and left our table. Tyson lightly kicked my leg under the table and nodded behind me. Turning, I saw Bethany taking off her apron thing and throwing it on the counter. There was a frown on her face as she left the diner/bar. "Well, I'm pretty sure I got her fired" I mumbled.
I felt guilty. But it was quickly gone when I remembered how she called me a 'dumb slut'. Just because I came here with a different guy doesn't mean that I'm a slut. There's these things called friends. I'm pretty sure she doesn't have any though. "So, Wendy. Tell me about yourself" Tyson stated, leaning his elbows onto the table.
"I think you mean tell you about my Mark" I guessed. Tyson nodded his head. "Well, I was in the Blue Moon pack. Alpha Asher and I were together. He never found his mate, so he told me that I would be his Luna. I was ecstatic. I learned what Lunas do, how they act. I was all prepared" I told him. It was true. I read some old werewolf history books. They were boring as fuck, but they taught me more about Lunas.
I took a deep breath before continuing. "Asher left for a month. The Beta was in charge. I decided to be a Luna and help him out. I kept butting heads with the female-Beta. I think I was just annoying everyone" I admitted. I knew that most people didn't like me in that pack. It was because of my past 'relations'. Basically, I was a slut before I got together with Asher. I opened my legs more often than someone opening the fridge.
Their hatred for me was actually rational. "I knew that Asher had found his mate. But before she came around, he already gave the Luna role. And I wasn't giving up without a fight. I had no idea that his mate was the Princess. I thought that she was just a member of another pack. I didn't know she was a Royal. So when I bad mouthed her, I just pushed Asher over the edge. He banished me and gave me the Mark" I explained. I didn't go into that much detail with Shane. But I felt like he didn't need to know about my relations.
The past is the past. It's not like I can go back in time and change it- no matter how much I might want to do that. "The Luna role is that important to you?" Tyson questioned.
I shrugged. "Not anymore. It was at the time. I was committed to it. I was ready to take over the role. Then out of nowhere, I lost my position. And my boyfriend. This girl- the Princess- no one knew about her. But she was taking everything that was mine. And I don't know. It pissed me off to the point where I turned into a complete bitch" I stated. I hadn't ever told anyone that. I didn't have anyone to tell that to.
Sure, the Princess didn't take everything. But she took two of the most important things away from me. "Is that why you turned off your emotions?" Tyson asked.
Now, that's where it gets complicated. "Yes and no. When my parents both died, I started slowly pushing away all of my feelings. I didn't even realize it. Then when I was a rogue, I had to kill a friend that I made. That made me completely shut off all emotions. The guilt. I couldn't handle it" I said quietly.
I had no idea why I was practically pouring my heart out to Tyson. But he was listening and it made me feel better. So I didn't stop. "We were best friends. There were a group of rogues, and I joined them. That's where we met. But they found out about the Mark. And wanted to play a game" I whispered.
A frown was on Tyson's face. "Let me guess. A game of cat and mouse?" I nodded my head. "You shouldn't feel bad about that. It was her decision to participate in that sick 'game'. You did what you had to do to survive" he told me.
I nodded my head, but inside, I didn't believe him. I didn't have to kill her to survive. I could've kept running. Or just injured her so she couldn't come after me. Her life didn't have to end. "Here's your milkshakes and the beer" the waitress interrupted my thoughts as she placed four milkshakes on the table along with the random glass of beer.
She flashed us a smile before leaving the table. "I didn't know what kind of milkshake you like, so..." Tyson trailed off. I softly chuckled and pulled the chocolate milkshake towards myself. "When's your birthday?" he asked randomly.
Wow. Birthday. I haven't celebrated that in a while. "January 19th. When's yours?" I questioned.
"June 22nd" he answered. "Is your hair naturally that color?" he inquired.
Laughing, I nodded my head. Several people thought that I dyed my hair to make it red. But it's natural. Plus, how would I dye my hair if I was a rogue? "Do you have any hobbies?" Might as well ask random questions to get to know each other and whatnot.
I have a feeling that Tyson and I might actually become good friends.
***************************************************************************
"Are you sure it's okay?" I asked Tyson as we both got out of the car. He decided to take me to the pack house. But no one even knows who I am. And I'm still a rogue, meaning I smell like one too. I'm not trying to get jumped by the pack members.
Tyson nodded his head and I followed him to the door. "You'll be joining the pack soon anyways. Why not meet a few people now?" he questioned. I stayed quiet, not having a good excuse not to meet some people.
We walked into the large pack house and immediately heard growling. Yeah. I know I stink. Gosh. Don't have to point it out. Tyson growled louder, silencing the men that appeared in front of us. "This is Wendy Keeler. She is Shane's mate" he introduced me.
They nodded their heads and relaxed their tense postures. "It's nice to meet you. Sorry for the shitty first impression" one of the men stated, shaking my hand. "I'm Derek. This is Ted and Cole" he stated, motioning to the other two guys.
"Well, you already know my name. But it's nice to meet you guys" I said politely. I shook all their hands, noticing that they were all older than me by a few years.
Derek, Ted, and Cole all dismissed themselves stating that they needed to go to patrol. Tyson led me deeper into the house until we got to the kitchen. "Want a soda?" he asked. I nodded my head as he went to the fridge. He handed me a can of Sprite and popped open his own can of Coca-Cola. We fell into a silence as we sipped on our sodas. "So... Female octopi" he said slowly.
I laughed with Tyson joining soon after. "Just imagine" I paused to sip my soda. "You get a girl. You guys mate. Then she strangles you and serves you to her family for dinner!" Tyson was in the middle of drinking. His soda sprayed from his mouth. "Oh, god!" I exclaimed, seeing the soda all over the kitchen counter. Tyson quickly composed himself and we both started laughing our asses off. That is until someone came into the kitchen.
"What the fuck is going on?" my mate shouted. I froze, knowing how suspicious this might have looked. I was leaning on Tyson, my body weak from laughing. We both had smiles on our faces. "You have three seconds to get five feet away from each other" he said lowly.
I quickly separated myself from Tyson and walked towards Shane. "Nothing happened, Shane. We were just talking" I informed him. However, he wasn't even looking at me. He was glaring at Tyson. "Shane" I said, grabbing his face and making him look at me. "Nothing. Happened" I said slowly.
Nodding his head, he sighed and moved my hands off his face. "Come on, man. You know I wouldn't do that to you" Tyson stated, sounded offended.
Shane nodded his head and wrapped an arm around my shoulders. "I know. I just jumped to conclusions. I'm sorry" he apologized. I smiled, feeling envious of their friendship. The back door opened and Dominic walked in with two people behind him. "Hey, Dom" Shane greeted his Alpha.
I bowed my head respectfully. "Hey! I know you!" my head snapped up, hearing the familiar voice. "Wendy, right?" she asked.
I nodded my head. "Alpha Beverly and Beta Mitchell" I said, nodding at the two people. "How are you guys?" I asked casually.
They smiled at me and Shane. "We're good. How are you?" Beverly asked.
"I'm good. I found my mate" I stated, motioning behind me. I noticed that they weren't showing any signs of affection. Nothing stood out. So no one would even guess that they were mates. I don't think I would ever be able to do that. How could you not touch your mate? It's crazy.
They should just come out and tell people that they're mates. Maybe I can play matchmaker for a day.
