Chapter 12

Wendy

I walked into the kitchen, where Sarah was waiting for me with breakfast already cooked. "Good morning" I chirped while making my way to the coffee pot. I quickly made my coffee and returned the sugar and cream back to their rightful spots. "This looks delicious" I commented as I sat at the table. Noticing that Sarah wasn't saying anything, I looked up at her. "What's wrong?" I inquired.

She sighed and mustered up a small smile. "Your cousin had his baby, right?" she asked randomly. I nodded while sipping my coffee, careful not to burn my tongue. "Oh, I love babies" she said with a smile on her face. "I haven't seen a baby since Shane was born. He was the cutest little guy ever. Except when he tried to be Tarzan" she chuckled.

I raised an eyebrow at her. "He would strip down to his diaper and jump all over the furniture" she informed me. I could tell she was having a moment of nostalgia. "Jade would get so frustrated because she thought he would fall. That little boy never listened to his mother" she said with a laugh.

Smiling, I put down my coffee. "Would you like to go see Clara?" I offered. Without missing a beat, Sarah nodded her head. "Do you have a car?" I asked. Once again, she nodded her head. "I can drive us there after breakfast" I stated.

She squealed before continuing to eat her food. I couldn't help but notice how she was now eating faster than before. She finished pretty quickly. I was about three quarters of the way finished with my food when she scooped up my plate and put it in the sink. "Chop. Chop. Time to see the little angel" she insisted.

Laughing at her enthusiasm, I got up from my chair and finished off my coffee. "I put some of Jade's clothes in your room" she called out as I walked to my room. I thanked her before closing the door.

I opened the closet and began running my hands over the clothes. I found a cute white skater skirt and a light pink baby doll crop top with thin straps. I took a quick shower, a little less than 10 minutes; before I changed into the outfit. I looked in the closet for something to wear over the top. I tried on various cardigans, not finding one that I liked. I sifted through the closet again, spotting the last cardigan. It was sheer fabric and had a pink floral design. I slipped my arms through and nodded in approval.

Yes. I approved my own outfit. I slipped on a pair of white flats that I found in the closet to finish the outfit. I found the unopened make-up and put on a little nude lipstick. I quickly walked out the room, knowing that Sarah was thrilled to see Clara. Sarah was waiting for me by the door with keys in her hand.

"Let's go!" she squeals while skipping out the house. And I mean actually skipping. It scared me. I thought she would fall and break her hip or something. Old people are fragile. And this is Shane's grandmother. If she broke a hip, then I would feel horrible for witnessing it. I quickly caught up to her and she tossed me the keys as she pulled the plastic cover off of a bright red convertible. It looked vintage, but had some alterations to make it look more modern.

I quickly got in the car, running my hand over the white leather seats. It was a stick shift, luckily I know how to drive one. After admiring the car for a few moments, I put the key in the ignition and pulled away from the small house.

I wracked my brain to remember how to get to Ralph's house. Liz occasionally piped in to help. In about an hour, since we got lost a few times; we got to my cousin's house. There were five wolves that had emerged from the forest lines. They all shifted and slipped on clothes. It was Tyson, Dominic, Alex, Sophia, and another girl who I haven't met.

Giving them a small wave, I waited for them to get closer. "Hey guys. You know Shane's grandma, right?" I asked while motioning to the lady.

They all nodded as their faces lit up with smiles. "Grammy Sarah" they all said in unison before engrossing the woman in a huge group hug. "It's been months since we seen you" the unknown girl gushed.

I left them to catch up. I was greeted by wailing once I walked into the house. Following Clara's cries, I made my way to the kitchen. Maddi was trying to feed her with a bottle, but Clara was twisting around in her arms as she screamed her little head off. Maddi groaned before chucking the bottle at the wall. She stood up from the chair and started swaying back and forth, but Clara was still crying. "Ralph!" Maddi shouted.

My cousin appeared next to me. "She won't stop crying!" Maddi exclaimed, close to tears. I felt bad for her. All the stress.

Ralph sighed as he walked towards his mate and took the baby from her hands. He cradled her in his arms and swayed around like his mate, but Clara wouldn't stop crying. He softly hushed her. "Shh. Daddy's here" he cooed. Clara's cries never ceased though.

Maddi groaned as she tugged at her blonde hair. "Here. Let me help" I offered softly. Their heads snapped towards me as they acknowledged my presence for the first time. Ralph gently handed me the baby and I carefully cradled her in my arms. She stared at me with her bright blue eyes filled with tears as she continued to wail. I switched positions so she was vertical with her face by my shoulder.

Her cries made my ears ring, but I continued to move around. I softly bounced while hushing her. Slowly, her cries stopped. She started to fall asleep, and I shifted her back into a cradled position. I rocked her back and forth until her eyes closed. I smiled victoriously as I wiped the tears off her small face. "Thank you" Maddi whispered softly.

I gave her a small smile. "She just doesn't like being cradled" I suggested. Maddi nodded as Ralph took Clara from my arms to put her to sleep. I guess Sarah would just have to see her asleep or wait until she wakes up. "How's the parenting life treating you?" I inquired.

She sighed with a shake of her head. "It's definitely not easy" she informed me. I nodded in understanding. "Ralph is really helpful though- or at least he tries to be" she stated. We both laughed as everyone came into the kitchen. "Whoa. You leave with a baby and come back with six adults" Maddi commented.

They all nodded and gave Maddi a hug each. "Where's the little child?" Sarah asked.

"Sleeping, though, it won't be long until she wakes up" Maddi stated. A smile made its way onto Sarah's face. She really wants to see the baby. I honestly don't know why people like babies so much. They are literally tiny humans. Sure, they're cute with their squishy faces, chubby arms, and small hands. Okay. Babies are pretty awesome.

Everyone dove into conversation. Maddi was talking with the girl- whose name in unknown to me- and Sophia. Dominic, Tyson, and Alex were engrossed in their own conversation. And finally, Ralph was talking to Sarah. I was the odd one out. I eased out of the room and decided to go to Clara's nursery. The baby was sound asleep in her crib.

I walked around the room, grazing my hands over her small stuffed animals that were scattered on chairs and shelves. I found a small photo album and grabbed it. Sitting in the rocking chair, I read the front cover. "Clara Hansen" I whispered softly. I opened up the small book and smiled at the first picture. I was Maddi with a flat stomach. Ralph was on his knees with his forehead pressed against her belly.

It must've been when she found out that she was pregnant. They both had smiles on their faces. Turning the page, I was met with a similar picture. This one was when Maddi's belly was fully grown. They were in the exact same position, with smiles stretching across their faces. The next three pictures were ultrasounds of the baby. There was one of a peanut looking figure, when she was still small. The next one showed her head and a small arm. The other one was her full body- probably the last ultrasound of Maddi's pregnancy.

The next picture had Maddi holding Clara. She was swaddled in a pink blanket. There was another picture of Ralph holding Clara. Then that was it. I don't know why I was expecting there to be more pictures. I mean she's only been born yesterday. "Hey" my head snapped up to the doorway, where Ralph was leaning against the wall.

I gave him a small smile before putting the album back. "Are you snooping?" he asked teasingly.

Rolling my eyes, I let out a fake sigh. "You caught me. I was looking for the drugs to turn you guys into the FBI" I played along.

Ralph refrained from laughing as he put on a fake surprised face. "You traitor!" he exclaimed. I froze as that word was like putting a knife through my chest. "Wendy?" Ralph said softly.

I quickly shook the thoughts out of my head. "I'm fine" I assured him, even though he didn't ask. Clara picked the perfect time to wake up. I picked her up from the crib and held her vertically so she wouldn't cry again. She only slept about ten minutes, so it was a short nap.

I walked past Ralph and down the stairs. Everyone immediately swarmed around me once they saw the child. I handed her to Dominic to let him deal with all the people gushing over the baby.

The sky was dark and everyone preparing to leave. I just now realized that I haven't seen my mate all day. I wonder where he is. I didn't feel any anxiety or worry about it, so I knew that he was safe. It's just weird that I didn't see him at all. With a sigh, I made my way out the kitchen. As I turned the corner, I bumped into someone and was drenched in a red liquid.

I heard a gasp as a hand was stretched out to help me up. "I am so sorry, Wendy" Tyson apologized as I looked down at the stained outfit.

It was a cute outfit too. "It's alright" I said dismissively. I slipped off the cardigan and walked to the bathroom to wash up. I was very aware of Tyson following me, but it wasn't like I was going to take off my clothes or anything. I turned on the faucet and grabbed a small towel. I began washing the cardigan and wet the towel to wash the stickiness off of my skin.

"I am really really sorry" Tyson stated. I waved him off as I continued to scrub the towel on my shirt. The white skirt is absolutely ruined. But I got the red liquid off of the shirt. "It looks like you got some in your hair" he informed me.

I sighed and moved my hair to the front of my torso. There were darker shades of red where it was wet. I leaned over and washed my hair inside of the sink. Tyson grabbed my cardigan and hung it on the towel rack to dry. "Here" he handed me a rubber band. I quickly thanked him before throwing my hair into a bun. "I feel really bad" he mumbled.

A small chuckle escaped my lips. "It's fine, Tyson. I promise" I assured him.

I watched our reflections in the mirror as he nodded his head. I dried off and put the wet towels in the sink. "Hey Wendy?" Tyson asked. I hummed in response while scratching my arm. "What's on your shoulder?"

Omg. Guys it has been way too long. My laptop crashed, so I had to rewrite this; and it took longer than expected. I'm sorry for the extremely long wait.

And now I'm sorry for leaving you guys with a cliff-hanger. But I'm the author, I can do whatever I want! Hahaha. Yeah. Ignore my weirdness.

Anyways...

Happy early Thanksgiving!

Btw. I'm on Goodreads now. And yeah. My username is the same as it is on here. And there's a link thingy on my account. So yeah. Review Rejecting a Princess on Goodreads. It would mean a lot to me.
