Chapter 10

Wendy

After what felt like hours, we were all ushered upstairs to see the baby. Of course, I bolted up the stairs. I mean, I have I right to see the baby first. I'm gonna be its aunt! Anyways, we all got to the room in which Maddi just had her baby. 'I hope they changed the sheets' Liz stated. I rolled my eyes at my wolf.

I was the first to get to the door; and my cousin was standing in front of it, smiling like the Cheshire cat. Creepy. "You guys ready?" he asked.

"Yes! We've been waiting for hours!" Tyson complained. I internally groaned. Apparently, he decided to never leave Shane and I alone. So we were stuck with him.

We had a whole conversations about condoms. The idiot didn't know that they're only like 98% effective. Which means, about 2% of the time; you can still produce a baby. Long story short, he had to call a few people. But at the end, Tyson was not the father! Oh, yeah. We watched a few episodes of Maury, that's how we got to the condom conversation.

But the conversation was worth the wait. Ralph opened the door to reveal Maddi sitting in the bed and cradling a small werewolf baby to her chest. Judging from the pink blanket and the small pink beanie on the baby's head, its a girl.

I quickly rushed inside and stood by Maddi. "She's so beautiful" I said softly. The baby surprisingly had her big eyes open, showing off her blue orbs that matched her mother's. Human babies usually wouldn't have colored eyes; but things are always different for werewolves.

With a smile, Maddi gently handed me her daughter. Her small head was resting on the inside of my forearm as the rest of her body was cradled by my arms. I gently rubbed her arm with my thumb. "Hi, baby. I'm Aunt Wendy" I cooed while slowly rocking her back and forth.

"Clara" my head snapped to Ralph and Maddi. "We named her Clara" Ralph informed me. I choked down a sob that wanted to escape my mouth.

Biting my trembling lip, I passed the baby to Dominic who stood next to me. "Sorry. Excuse me" I croaked before running out the room. Once I was outside and away from all the prying eyes, I let my tears fall. I ran to the side of the house, before I tripped over my own foot.

My eyes burned from all the tears as I leaned against the house, pulling my knees to my chest. I buried my face into my hands to muffle my sobs. "Wendy" a voice softly called out. I heard the crunching of dirt and gravel under his shoes until he stopped in front of me. He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me to his chest. He didn't say anything; he just held me as I sobbed.

Slowly, my crying died down and I sat peacefully in his arms. "Its my mother's name" I muttered. "They named their daughter after my mother" I informed him.

Shane nodded his head. "So why are you crying? Shouldn't you be happy that they honor your mother by naming their first child after her?" he asked quietly.

I pulled away and nodded my head. "I am happy about it. I'm glad that they thought about my mom" I stated. He cocked his head to the side. "It hurt; hearing her name. I haven't heard anyone say her name in over two years" I explained. Quickly, I wiped away the few tears that escaped my eyes as I spoke.

Frowning, I looked at my hands that now had smeared make up on them. God, I probably look like a raccoon. "You're beautiful" Shane said as he kissed my cheek. I need to stop thinking out loud. Maybe Ed Sheeran has the same dilemma as me. Maybe its a red head thing? No? Okay then.

I sniffled and wiped my chin as Shane continued to kiss random spots around my face, making sparks erupt everywhere his lips touched. "Hey- Ew! Holy crap! My eyes! They burn! I did not want to see that!" our heads snapped to Tyson who had his hands covering his eyes. He always has to ruin the moment. It's not like we were making out. Shane sighed as he pulled us both to our feet. "No public displays of affection around this Beta!" Tyson stated as he pointed at himself.

Rolling my eyes, Shane and I walked back inside the pack house with Tyson behind us, muttering about how he needs to find his mate. He really does though. His three best friends have mates-though, I haven't met Dominic's mate yet. "I'm gonna wash my face" I said quietly while letting go of Shane's hand. Honestly, I didn't realize that I was holding it. It just felt natural to me.

I slipped past Tyson and went to the bathroom. Looking in the mirror, I saw my smeared make up. I really did look like a raccoon. I grabbed a few towels and wet them before scrubbing my face. Sarah is really smart for packing me lipstick. After all the eye-shadow and smudges were gone, I reapplied the lipstick. I think its my new favorite color. Its a bold red, but it looks pretty.

Once I was satisfied with my appearance, I walked out the bathroom and back to the bedroom that Maddi was in. I smiled once I laid eyes on Shane holding Clara. He was gently rocking her back and forth; and I could see her eyes drooping closed as she was falling asleep. "You're gonna be a great dad" Maddi said softly as she watched my mate.

"He sure is" I whispered. Of course they hear me though. You can never whisper around werewolves; they always hear you. Their heads snapped towards me and Shane gave me a smile. I flashed him a quick smile as I walked towards Maddi. I slowly wrapped my arms around her and then did the same to Ralph. "Thank you" I muttered.

I pulled away, and Ralph kissed my forehead. "I love you so much, Monkey" he mumbled against my skin. A few tears leaked out of my eyes. It has been so long since I've heard those three words from someone.

Ralph pulled me back into his chest and gave me a big bear hug. "Hey! I wanna hug her too!" Maddi exclaimed. Laughing, I moved away from Ralph and bent down to hug Maddi. "For the record. I love you more than him" she whispered. From the huff that escaped Ralph's lips, I think it would be safe to say that he heard her.

I laughed as I stood up straight. Shane appeared next to me as he continued to rock the baby back and forth. "Can you guys put her in the crib? Its the room next to ours" Ralph asked.

We quickly nodded our heads. I opened the door for Shane since his hands were kinda full. We went to Clara's nursery and Shane gently lowered her into the crib. I put a tiny stuffed giraffe next to her, and she instantly cuddled to it. I resisted the urge to 'aww' so I wouldn't wake her up.

Turning, I saw Shane attempting to turn on the baby monitor. He was actually just pressing random buttons. I grabbed the small speaker and flipped the switch that was on the bottom of the device. I put the volume on high before setting it down on the dresser. I don't even know why they have a baby monitor. We're werewolves; we hear everything.

Shane grabbed my hand and began leading us out of the room. "Oh my god. She is so cute!" Surprisingly, it wasn't me gushing about the baby. My mate was fan-girling over my cousin's child the moment we walked out the door. I laughed at his cheerful expression. It was like a kid seeing candy and ice cream- at the same time.

We decided to give my cousin and his family some alone time. Everyone had already left while I was wiping off my make up, so it was time for Shane and I to leave too. The sun had started to set as Shane helped me put on my helmet. "Where are we going?" I asked as I got on the bike after him.

"We're gonna have dinner at my grandma's. I miss her cooking" he sighed softly. I smiled while wrapping my arms around him. Sarah's cooking is really good. She makes anything taste like its from a five star restaurant- but minus the small portions.

Shane revved the bike before driving off with a wheelie. Instinctively, I shrieked as my arms tightened around him; and like usual, he chuckled and continued to drive his insane way. I prayed to the Moon Goddess that we would make it to Sarah's house alive.

Apparently, she heard my prayers. Fifteen minutes later, I was getting off the bike and Shane helped me take off my helmet. I still can't buckle or unbuckle the stupid thing by myself. Its Wendy-proof. Anyone but Wendy can do it. "Why do you look grumpy?" Shane asked, amused at my pouty expression.

He closed the seat compartment and we started walking to the front door. "I'm not grumpy" I defended. "I'm just slightly frustrated that I can't unbuckle the helmet" I explained. Okay, maybe 'slightly' was a little too far-fetched.

Shane chuckled and threw his arm over my shoulders. "But I like helping you take it off. I feel needed" he said softly.

I stopped walking, making him stop also. "You're needed even if I did know how to take off the stupid helmet. I don't know where I would be without you. And I'm pretty sure that I'll always need you" I said honestly.

Grinning, he started leaning his head towards mine. I could feel his heat radiating off of his body from his close proximity. His breath was fanning over my face as he stopped just before his lips met mine. "That was really cheesy" he muttered before pulling away.

I smacked my lips and lightly pushed him away. "I thought you were gonna kiss me!" I exclaimed. I slapped a hand over my mouth, after realizing that I sounded squeaky. Shane chuckled and pulled me back to his body. I moved my hand away to speak, but he quickly pressed his lips to mine.

My body immediately melted in his touch as I threw my arms around his neck and closed my eyes. He traced his hand down my side, making me gasp from all the sparks that covered my body. Like all typical guys, he took the opportunity to slip his tongue into my mouth. I used my arms to pull him closer and he put one hand on my neck to deepen the kiss.

"Oh, geez! Don't you guys need air?!" we abruptly pulled away, now breathing heavily. Our heads snapped to the door, where Sarah was standing with an amused look on her face. "Five minutes and forty-eight seconds" she stated. I raised an eyebrow at her. "I timed you guys" she informed us, not even a little sheepish.

I laughed at her nonchalant expression before being pulled back into another kiss. This one was much shorter- ten seconds at the max. But still, my body instantly reacted to his touch. We pulled away, and I laughed at Shane's face. "Um... I got a little lipstick on you" I giggled while wiping away the red spots around his lips.

Shane chuckled. "I kinda messed up your lipstick" he informed me as he wiped the sides of my mouth.

A loud squeal had us turning back to Sarah. "You two are so adorable!" she gushed. I turned bright red- probably the same color as my lipstick. And surprisingly Shane turned a little pink. "Go back to your couple stuff. Dinner's almost done, so I'll get you guys when its finished" she said quickly before disappearing into the house.

My mate turned to me and wiggled his eyebrows. "That was so embarrassing" I mumbled while covering my face with my hands. Shane quickly argued that his grandmother didn't care. "Shane! That's your grandma! I don't want her to see that!" I cried out. She might think we're 'adorable;' but really, us kissing isn't something that she should be seeing- especially not kisses like that.

He chuckled before grabbing my face in his hands and pressing his lips firmly to mine. "Its okay, Wendy. She really doesn't mind. And besides, its not like we were having sex on her lawn. We were just kissing" he stated. With kisses like that, we might end up having sex on her lawn. Luckily, I kept my thoughts in my mind that time.

"Come on love-birds! Dinner time!"
