Epilogue: My Everything
Epilogue:
My Everything
___________
*One year and four months later*
Is sucked in a deep breath and prepared myself to walk back into my new home for the next year.
Just moments ago I was telling my parents and cancer-free little brother that I'd miss while I was away at college. I really would miss them while I'm away. After living with the same people for eighteen years you kind of get attached to them. I could barely let Matt out of my hug because I'd miss him coming in my room at random to play with my hair or tease me.
I actually had tears building up in my eyes for the first time when he handed me a little wrapped box. He told me to wait until I get to my room to open it, sonI crossed my heart that I would.
I found out that Emma was my roommate after she called me. We had both requested that we room with each other since we decided to go to the same college.
After so much arguing over the phone, it was settled that we would be roomies for the next year of our grown-up lives.
As for Adam, he is also going to Virginia tech. He decided that if his love was going to be far away from home then he was too. I thought it was sweet.
I saved the best for last. Cameron called me last night and told me that he'd see me today. Sadly, I'm not sure if he's even going to college. He hasn't said anything about it and I haven't pushed the touchy subject. We have went to each other's houses for the past year for holidays and just about every night we stayed up on Skype and FaceTime talking about our days. I think we both fell a little harder for each other.
I even had Mrs. Foster call me, after not seeing her for a while year, and tell me that she sent a good recommendation in to this school for me. I remembered she told me that to get me to tutor Cameron at the time. I was so happy that she didn't forget, although it wouldn't have mattered if she did.
Finally, I took a step into my new home for the first official time since we got here today. After unloading and rearranging all my things in the dressers along with Emma's, we went out to get some dinner at 6:30.
Inside our apartment, there was a flat screen sitting on too of one of the dressers with our clothes inside and a couch directly across from that. A mini fridge was in the corner of our small living room. We had no kitchen, but I heard there was a cafeteria close by on campus. There were two rooms on the other side of the room, one for me and one for Emma. Although they were small enough for a twin-sized bed and a small desk and chair, it was okay.
I stripped out of my jeans and nice shirt to trade them with more comfortable clothes. I sat down on the couch and flipped the TV on, pulling out my phone to find something to do.
Then, my phone buzzed in my hands and I saw I had a call from Emma. She was supposed to be out on a date with Adam, why would she be calling me?
"Hello?" I answered, my eyebrows knitting together.
"Sophia! Hey, um, I need you to meet me down in the parking lot." Emma said breathlessly. I instantly stood up off the couch and rushed to get my shoes on.
"Emma? What's wrong? Are you okay?" I asked into the phone as I rushed out the door, in only a tank top and cotton shorts. She hung up. I started to panic thinking that something was going terribly wrong with my best friend.
When I pushed through the double doors of the school, I ran over to the parking lot, jumping over brushes and what not.
"Emma?" I shouted through the people-empty parking lot. Cars were in every parking space since it was move-in day. But most people were out to eat dinner.
"Hello?" I said again, panting. I put my hands in my knees to rest and catch my breath. I think I just broke the speed barrier.
I pulled out my phone to call Emma and tapped my foot impatiently as it rang. I waited the whole time until her voicemail came on. Yet, I still didn't hear the distant ringing of her phone. She always has her phone's ringtone set as the beginning of the song "California" by Phantom Planet. And it's always loud, so if she was close by, I would've heard it.
So when I looked up from my phone in frustration, I didn't expect to see him there. He had on a New York Yankees t-shirt and black basketball shorts. I could've sworn I heard my heartbeat in my ears for a second. After not seeing his crooked smile for almost a month, I took off running again down the parking lot and jumped into his arms. He swung me around with his arms holding me tight. I took a deep breath to make sure he still smelled the same, as weird as that sounds.
"Holy crap! Where did you come from?" I half screamed. Cameron beamed at me and kissed me. He started at my lips and trailed his kisses down my neck and to my shoulder. I laughed and pushed him away from me enough for me to see his face again.
"What's with Emma?" I asked him seriously. He smirked and held me tighter to him.
"I met her out here in my way to my apartment-" He started but my screaming cut him off.
"You're staying here? Oh my gosh! With who?" It's Adam, isn't it? That little sneak.." I trailed off.
Cameron nodded to confirm he's in the same apartment with his best friend. "And she said she'd get you down here for me so I could surprise you. Here I am!" He held his arms out wide to show me he was here.
"Yes, I see that." I poked his shoulder and turned around, strutting back towards the building.
"What are you doing?" He asked and I heard his hands slap against his thighs.
"Back to my apartment." I turned around and raised my eyes seductively at him. He smiled and raced towards me. When I felt his hands in my shoulders, I braced myself for his weight to be on my back. He hopped up in my back, even though I was smaller than him, and held on tight and I struggled to walk right.
"You're so strong." He purred like a woman would a man and squeezed my invisible muscles. He rested his chin on the top of my head.
"Thanks, babe." I said in a low voice.
"Oh, we're calling each other babe again?" He laughed and I felt him vibrate my back. I dropped his legs and landed on his feet on the ground. I hooked my arm through his as we continued walking towards the front doors.
"Yep, babe." I stood on my tiptoes to kiss his cheek.
Once we got back inside and up to my room, I tore my black bed spread off my bed and drug it out to the living room. On the couch sat a shirtless Cameron shoving his face with some left over pizza I brought back with me and put in the mini fridge.
I plopped down on the opposite side of the couch and threw my legs up over his. He looked at me and winked before looking back at the TV. A basketball game was on.
"I got a basketball scholarship." Cameron told me absentmindedly.
"Cam! That's awesome!" I smiled at him tucked my foot under his leg. My feet were freezing.
"Thanks. I actually can't wait. What all stuff do we need for classes? Mom is coming by next week to get me school supplies." Cameron told me as he watched the game.
My face fell. "Holy crap! I forgot about school supplies! How could I forget about school supplies? I need my books and pencils! Oh my gosh..." I put my hands up to my face and groaned.
"Sophia?" Cameron asked. I split my fingers apart so I could see him through the slits. His eyes captured mine in one glance and I lowered my hands.
"Hm?" I asked him, feeling less panicky now.
"Will you marry me?" The words startled me so much that my body went numb and the only thing I could feel was my heart.
"Where did that come from?" I squeaked. My cheeks were burning with blush now.
"I don't know. I didn't expect to ask you so soon, to be honest. Will you?" His eyes never left mine once which meant that he was being honest. He really wanted to spend the rest of his life with me?
"I do. I will marry you." Even though my heart was steaming yes, my mind was telling me to wait a little while. "Why don't we get married when we're actually settled in?" I suggested so casually. I felt like I was about to have a heart attack, why were we talking about marriage so casually?! We're barely adults yet!
Seeing the disappointment on his face, I leaned up and poked his stomach with my finger. He lunged at me and straddled my body between his legs.
"Of course I can wait." He leaned down to kiss my lips a million times before finally keeping them on mine. Our lips moved in sync for a little while until he broke us apart and we both panting.
"You're my everything, Sophia Belle." We both grinned before kissing me again.
