What do flowers smell like?
"Taehyung?" Jungkook whispered into the elder boys ears with his hands cupped around his mouth. "Can you ask to stay a little longer?"
Taehyung glanced up at the woman in white who was here with Jungkook's daily medication and to tuck him in for a nap, as his most recent addition to the concoction had a side effect of drowsiness.
"Is it alright if I stay until dinner?" He asks her calmly, as Jungkook held tightly onto his sleeve, not wanting him to go.
The woman in white slightly rolled her eyes but allowed him to stay, to his surprise.
He sat back on the bed after he had kicked his shoes off and watched as Jungkook pliantly took each and every pill and gulp of medicine there was. Taehyung was almost in pain as he noticed Jungkook dry swallow it all, not being offered a cup of water until everything was downed.
The woman then gave Taehyung an injection of an unknown substance that he was too terrified to ask about. He must have not seen it on the medical records. She patched up the injected area with a plain, skin colored bandaid that was much darker than Taehyung's sickly complexion.
The woman in white left Taehyung with Jungkook, high as a kite on his meds. He crawled over and sat between Taehyung's legs and began fiddling with the hems and buttons of Taehyung's clothing. His curiosity was funny to Taehyung, his nimble fingers tugging at the fringes on his jacket and tracing over the words on his t-shirt.
The effects of the drugs soon started to kick in even more. Jungkook stopped playing with Taehyung's clothing and his eyes drooped.
"Taehyungie," he said in a sleepy tone, causing Taehyung to giggle slightly.
"Hmm?"
"What does outside look like?"
Jungkook leaned forward and rested his forehead on Taehyung's broad chest. The brunette was speechless. He looked down, only to see the top of Jungkook's head, pressed against him. His mouth hung slightly open at his loss for words. He laid a hand on Jungkook's head and pet his soft hair with his coarse finger tips.
"Well," he started, "there's a lot of places out side that look different wherever you go."
"It's not all the same?" The younger asks.
"Nope," Taehyung said before he continued, "in some places, there's lots of trees, and huge fields of grass where flowers grow. And the sky is blue. And clouds float around that look like cotton candy."
"What do the flowers smell like, tae?" Jungkook asked, sinking further into Taehyung's body, "I see other kids get flowers from people and they say that they smell good."
Taehyung responded while wrapping his arms around the younger male.
"All flowers smell different," he said, "I can bring you some, if you want?"
Jungkook raised his head and looked at Taehyung with a smile, bigger than any he had seen on that face before, showing his bunny teeth.
"Really?"
Taehyung nodded.
Jungkook went back to the position he was in before, pressed against Taehyung with the latters strong arms wrapped around him tightly. Taehyung continued telling Jungkook about the outdoors. The raven haired boy listened to Taehyung's deep voice while fluttering his eyelashes against the soft cotton of the t-shirt his head rested on. The smell of Taehyung circulated through his lungs. The soothing scent of strawberry and laundry detergent. The sweet smelling kind, not the plain kind that Jungkook's clothes were washed with. He felt Taehyung's hand on his head, which made him melt into Taehyung.
He felt safe with Taehyung. He wasn't sitting alone in this cold, blank room anymore, but with another person, full of color, holding him. Making him feel like more than just a patient. He was a real person. It set off butterflies in his stomach. He had read about butterflies in a book his teacher had given him once. They appear in your stomach when youre with someone who is very special. Jungkook only assumed this could mean that Taehyung was just that special to him. Special enough to set off butterflies in his tummy. His eyes fluttered closed.
Taehyung continued talking until he realized that Jungkook had fallen asleep in his arms. He smiled slightly at the sight of the sleeping boy. He carefully set him down on the bed and pulled the covers over him. Then, he sat back down beside him, not yet wanting to leave.
As he sat there, not distracted by the story telling of the world outside the institution, Taehyung noticed how hard his heart was beating. He swallowed down the lump in his throat while trying to push away the idea of being with Jungkook in a romantic way. The thought had just suddenly popped into his mind, but Taehyung couldn't bear it. It was true he cared for him, but not in that way... right? Taehyung only wanted him to be out of that awful place. He didnt want to be with him the rest of his life. Or, at least, that's what he thought before today.
He looked down at Jungkook who slept so peacefully. He realized it was no use pushing all of the thoughts out of his head, so he let them in. Jungkook really was a beautiful person. Though he was frail and meek and his skin was ghostly pale, he was incredibly handsome.
What would Jungkook do if he ever got out of here? His parents had pretty much abandoned him. He'd have nowhere to go. Maybe, Taehyung would be the one who would have to take care of him. Teach him about his own disease and help him learn about normal life things that he'd never experienced from being locked up in this joke of a mental institution.
Taehyung sighed. He got up from Jungkook's bed and finally left the room.
He passed Jungkook's doctor on the way to the exit and shot him an evil stare. He then took out his phone and opened his reminders. He typed in a new one for tomorrow morning before shoving the phone back into his back pocket and leaving for his dorm room, back at the university.
