Get you out

Taehyung walked into class with his purple spiral notebook that had spots of dried blood that were remnants of what happened two days ago. His hand was no longer bandaged but a red mark was left where Jungkook had opened his skin.

He went to his professors office and knocked on the door. He tapped his fingers against his notebook, anxious to share his many notes that were scrawled inside. He had recorded everything that happened and write an additional 4 pages about Jungkook. Taehyung knew the moment he was pulled out of that room that Jungkook shouldn't be there.

Moments later, an oldish man opened the heavy wooden door.

"Yes, Taehyung?"

Taehyung held his notebook to his chest and pleaded.

"Dr. Choi, I would like to start an independent study involving the mental hospital that is currently holding the patient Jeon Jungkook."

Soon, the two were sitting in an office. Taehyung read what was in his notebook to his professor and he discussed with him what to do.

"So, I did some research," Taehyung started, "and Jeon Jungkook shouldn't be in that hospital!"

Dr. Choi leaned back in his swivel chair behind his desk.

"Why so?"

Taehyung flipped through pages in his notebook.

"His disorder isn't mental," he said, "it's congenital. The disease is called Congenital Inability to feel Pain. It has to do with a something missing in his chromosomes. Doctors don't even fully understand it and I think that's why they keep him in that place."

"So, your independent study is going to be to get him out of there?"

"Yes."

"And what does that have to do with psychology?" Dr. Choi asked.

Taehyung hesitated, he spoke slowly, coming up with a reason on the fly.

"Because...," he started, "I want to see... How the hospital affected him... Over the years. And I want to know... What he's like... Without all of the unneeded medicine in him."

There was a long and awkward pause between Taehyung and his professor.

"And I would also be, in a way, saving a life so there that too."

Dr. Choi sat with his hand on his chin, thinking of what to say. It felt like forever to Taehyung before he answered.

"Alright," he said.

Taehyung smiled.

"Thank you sir! Thank you so much!!"

"But, Taehyung," Dr. Choi continued, "I expect this to have a positive outcome. I want this to be successful. If it's not, this could be a legal issue."

"I totally understand, professor. I won't let you down!"

-

Taehyung left the university and headed straight for the hospital. This time, without a notebook. He had his phone in his pocket that he planned to record everything with. No one would get hurt that way. And the visit wouldn't be cut short like last time.

"I'm here to see Jeon Jungkook," he said, as he reached the front desk.

The lady looked at him in a funny way. It was a different person from last time, but Taehyung assumed that everyone in the hospital knew about Jungkooks condition.

"Are you sure about that?" She asked. And Taehyung nodded enthusiastically. She led him to his room.

On the way there, he explained to the lady, his project. He didn't go into much detail as the walk from the lobby to Jungkooks room was short, and she didn't seem that interested.

As Taehyung began to reach for the doorknob, he stopped, having a sudden change of thought.

"Actually," he said, "go in without me first. I want to observe his reaction to just you."

The lady in white looked at Taehyung with a strange and annoyed expression, but did what he asked. She entered the room as Taehyung watched on the monitor on the desk outside.

"Hello, Jungkook," the lady in white said. Jungkook showed no reaction. He sat criss crossed on his bed, the sheets messy and the pillow misshapen, "how are we today?"

There was no response.

"We have a surprise for you today."

Taehyung watched carefully as Jungkook lifted his head slightly at the mention of a surprise.

"But, you're going to have to be on your best behavior, or else you can't have special things, okay?"

Both Taehyung and the lady in white were surprised when Jungkook responded with a very slight nod, just barely noticeable. It was unusual for his character.

Soon, the lady came out of the room and left Taehyung to do as he wished, but to just be gone before dinner time. The boy promised and pushed the heavy door open.

"Hello Jungkook~" he cooed happily, "it's me~"

The boy dressed in white clothing sat up straight the moment he saw Taehyung in his colorful glory. His multi colored jacket and black jeans stood out from the rest of the blank room.

Taehyung went to the bed and sat down, facing Jungkook.

"Long time, no see."

Jungkook only nodded slightly. He looked down at his fingers, something unusual for him to do since he was keen on keeping eye contact. But something about Taehyung being here made him feel a bit smaller. A bit shyer.

"I'm glad I got to come see you again," Taehyung continued, "I didn't think I would be able to after the last time."

Jungkook nodded again, the same way he did before. Taehyung was surprised at how shy he was being. He wasn't like this a few days ago. It was strange. Even though he had only been here once before, it felt much different. It was almost tense.

"Jungkook, are you alright?" He asked, "you're not talking to me today."

The younger boy shrugged and looked up through his dark bangs.

"Did something happen?"

Jungkook slumped back against the wall and sighed. Taehyung took out his phone, as he remembered to record the conversation.

"Please, tell me, Jungkook."

"He made me say something. He tried to hurt me. But it didn't work," Jungkook said, finally.

Taehyungs eyes widened slightly. He wasn't sure what the boy in front of him was talking about.

"Who's 'he'?"

"The man who tried to make me talk. He watches me when you come. He's watching us now, I know he is."

Taehyungs gaze was locked on Jungkook. He gradually leaned in eagerly, wanting to hear more and more of the youngers voice.

"How do you know that?"

Taehyung picked up his phone so that the microphone would catch Jungkooks voice better.

"People here think I'm stupid," he continued, "they think because I never respond to what they say, Ive some sort  of rare disability or incurable disease. But I'm smart. I'm smarter than all of them. I'm going to get out of here one day and show you and all of them!"

Jungkook was yelling by the end. Though, Taehyung was still intrigued. In fact, he smiled.

"Can I tell you a secret Jungkook?"

The boy shrugged.

"I'm here to help you."

Jungkook scoffed and laid down in his bed with his back to Taehyung.

"That's what all of them say to me. Every day."

But Taehyung kept his smile, unfazed by Jungkooks words.

"I understand you better, Jungkook," he said, "I'm going to help you get out of here."

Jungkook turned his head back around toward Taehyung.

"What?"

Taehyung then began to explain Jungkooks condition to him.

"What's wrong with you is not in your head. Its in you genes. It's called Congenital Insensitivity to Pain. It just means you don't feel things like everyone else. Here, they think that giving you medicine will help you. But it just makes you sick, so they give you more. I'm going to help you get out of here so you don't have to live like this anymore."

"And how do you plan to do that?" Jungkook snapped back, disbelief in his voice.

Taehyung reached over and patted Jungkooks head, smoothing over his soft hair with his palm.

"I'm not exactly sure, but I will. Okay?"

"Okay."
