Chapter 3

*I'm so sorry about the piture but it just fit so well with the last chapter XD okay I'll shut up now*

"Please don't wear that around the house," Sans pleaded as I walked out, trying on my new costume.

"I need to see if it fits," I replied simply and sat down next to him. His face turned blue again.

"Please, Frisk, put something else on before Papyrus gets home from work."

I threw my hands up in defeat, "Alright, fine, but..." I grin, "You sure you don't want to take it off for me"

Sans got up and left without a word, I just sat there laughing as he slammed the door to his room.

"Aww Sans!" I called to him.

"Shut up!" I heard him yell back.

"What was that I didn't hear you?" I giggled, running over to his door.

He opened it to repeat what he had said, only to slam it shut again. I laughed again and walked to my own room to get changed.

When I walked back out in one of the dresses from the store in my closet, I noticed Sans was still in his room. I knocked on the door.

"Who's there?"

Wait, he's expecting a knock knock joke? "Uh, canie?"

"Canie who?"

"Can I come in?" I asked opening the door a bit. Quickly, it shut again.

"No," Sans snapped.

I frowned, "I'm not wearing the costume," I told him.

"I'm busy," he replied.

"How busy?"

I heard Sans groan, "Very busy, go away."

"I'm not leaving until you let me in," I grumble and knock on the door again.

"Fine, fine," he sighed, "Justletmegetsomepantson..." I heard him mutter.

"What?"

"N-nothing!"

I smiled when he finally opened the door. Sans looked kind of hot and bothered, making me wonder what he was actually doing. "What exactly were you doing?" I asked.

He smiled awkwardly, clearly still self conscious of his teeth. "Nothing of importance..." his face heated up and turned blue.

I pushed past him. There was no smell in the air so it wasn't that, how would a skeleton even do that? I went looking for something, but whatever he had been doing, he hid it well.

I turned back to face Sans, who looked rather nervous. I saw a piece of paper shoved into his pocket. I pointed to it.

"What's that?"

"What's what?" he replied quickly.

I pointed to it again, "That, in your pocket."

He looked down, "Oh...that is...uh," he thought for a moment, "I-It's a....*sigh* it's a list..."

"A list of what?" I asked, attempting to take it from him.

"It's a list of pick-up lines," he admitted, rubbing the back of his neck.

I grinned, "You were gonna try and pick up girls at the Halloween event? In front of Asriel?"

"Y-yes-I mean no, i-it's just a hobby..." he mumbled.

"Practicing pick-up lines is a hobby?" I crossed my arms, disbelieving.

"Y-yes?"

I rolled my eyes, "All right "Mr. Romantic'," I laughed and made my way out of his room. "Continue your 'hobby'."

He nodded went to shut the door behind me.

"What? No smart ass comment?" I asked, almost pouting.

He just glared at me and shut the door in my face again, making me laugh loudly.

Papyrus returned from work a few minutes later with bags of food.

"Oh? Take-out?" I asked, looking up at him.

"WHY YES IT IS HUMAN!" Papyrus put a hand to his chest, "I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, HAS GONE OUT TO BUY MY BROTHER'S FAVOURITE FOOD!"

I looked at the bags, "What's that?" I asked.

"INDIAN!" he cried and leaned over to whisper in my ear, "HE LIKES SPICEY FOODS, AND, IF YOU WANT, IT MAKES HIM...WELL...YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN," Papyrus yell whispered.

I grinned evilly, "Sounds great, got anymore juicy information about Sans?"

Papyrus nodded, "OF COURSE I DO, BUT I'LL TELL YOU LATER!" he walked into the kitchen to serve up dinner.

Sans came running out of his room rather suddenly, not wearing his jacket, surprisingly. "I smell spice?!" he peeked into the kitchen and almost squealed.

I bent over laughing at him again. He looked back at me, his face turning a light shade of blue.

"What?" he asked, soon his face was plagued with realisation. "Oh my god...I did it again didn't I?" he looked at Papyrus, who I assumed nodded from the way Sans reacted. He threw back his head and grumbled loudly before sitting down beside me.

"You squeal often?" I asked smuggly.

He didn't reply.

"I'll take that as a yes," I grinned as he glared over at me. I reached over him to grab the remote, when I leaned back up he was sitting frozen, face blue.

"What's with you" I asked him.

He looked over at me. "U-uh...I-I...um...n-noth-ing..." he stuttered.

When Papyrus walked in with dinner, he too, noticed the way Sans was acting.

"ARE YOU OKAY BROTHER?"

Sans jumped as if from a daze. "W-what? Oh-uh, yeah f-fine...I'm fine..." he mumbled as took his plate from Papyrus and stood up, "I'm gonna go eat this in my room."

Both Papyrus and I watched as Sans walked down the hall and into his room. We looked at each other.

"So," I smiled, "Anything else embarrassing about Sans I should know."

Papyrus nodded enthusiastically. As he spoke I learned that Sans did actually practice pick-up lines in his mirror, he got nervous easily and he's afraid of knifes. I also found out that he's only ever liked one girl before, a crush he had in school when he was twelve.

"Can you tell if he likes someone?" I asked curiously, "You, know, being his brother n all?"

Papyrus shook his head, "No, he hasn't liked anyone since then, and he only told me about it a few months ago when I told him I was seeing someone."

I nodded, "Do you know why he's afraid of knives?"

"No, he's never told me..." he seemed to go into deep though, "I don't remember anything to make him afraid, he's just always been afraid, as far as I remember anyway."

"Interesting..." I stood up and put my empty plate in the sink. I saw the knife holder on the bench and smiled to myself. Pulling one out I sneaked over to Sans's room.

Knock knock

"Who's there?" Sans replied from the other side.

"Al,"

"Al who?" I heard him moving closer to the door.

"Al give you a kiss if you open the door," I smiled to myself again, holding up the knife.

"Why?" he asked, opening the door slightly. His eyes grew wide and the door shut again. "What the fuck?"

"What?"

"Papyrus told you I'm afraid of knives didn't he?"

I grinned, "Yep!"

"You're a bitch, you know that right?" he opened the door again, visibly trembling. I raised the knife again, making him fall back in fear. "Would you stop!"

He looked at my arm where the knife was. His eyes squinted and I realised what he was looking at. My arm dropped and my hand let go of the knife, barely missing Sans's leg.

He jumped up and tried to talk to me, I didn't hear a word he said as images flashed through my mind. Beatings, insults, things I dare not say aloud.

"Frisk!?" Sans's voice finally cut through my thoughts. I blinked and looked at him. "Hey, hey, it's okay, please don't cry," he cupped my face and wiped away the tears with his thumb. I hadn't even realised I was crying until he said this.

I wrapped my arms tightly around him, turning into a sobbing mess, my hair sticking to my face as I buried myself deeper into his chest. He held me tightly stroking my hair slowly.

"Funny..." he mumbled when I'd calmed down a little. "Of all the times you've reset, you've never...done anything like this..."

"What do you mean?" I asked, looking up at him.

"I mean, you've reset many times but, you've never...broken down and cried like this," he explained. "Then again, I never knew about...that..."

"What were the other timelines like?" I asked him.

He sighed and sat down on the floor, signifying it was a long story. I sat beside him.

"You've probably reset around six hundred and fifty three times," he started.

"If I've reset so many times, how do you not know who the killer is?"

He pursed his lips in annoyance, "This isn't like all the other timelines, in the other timelines we we're all trapped underground after a war between monsters and humans, I personally don't remember it as I was three years old but my Dad remembered it, when he had been alive in the other timelines, fell into the Core...the uh, source of electricity...anyway, Papyrus was probably a baby at that time, because my Mum had died in the war..." he paused, "I lived alone with Papyrus for quite a while before I met Toriel through a door to the ruins, for a while we just joked and exchanged puns, but after she told me a human had fallen into the underground, I felt everything just drop, my job forced me to kill humans when they fell, so I was relieved when I was asked to watch over you, make sure no one killed you."

"But?" I watched him, "There's always a but."

"But...." he said sarcastically, "You kept resetting and eventually, you started killing everyone..."

"This I know," I mumbled, Sans flinched at the memory.

"Y-yeah, um...by the time you got to the end of the Underground I decided I needed to take action...and..."

"Tried to kill me?"

He nodded, "Yeah...that...you eventually beat me...but it almost wasn't you, in a way you seemed surprised when you hit me...cut me...right along here..." he made a movement with his hand along his chest, staring straight ahead.

"Is that-"

"That is exactly why I'm afraid of knives..." he interrupted, looking at me. "Especially when you're holding one," he looked down at the knife and back up at me, smiling, trying to make light of the situation. It didn't last long.

"I was confused when I woke up seven years ago, up here...on the surface...I had memories of this place but I had known about the Underground too...I decided to search for Mount Ebott, it turns out the mountain still has the cavern underneath, but there's nothing there...the Echo flowers are silent, my home even the ruins are just, non existant.

"It was weird...but I got used to it...after the killings started I knew I had to find you...but I didn't know how. Until I heard an amber alert on the news, I began watching it, finding out where you would be...great thing about puzzles, y'know, teaches you patterns, luckily, your pattern was quite simple, you got on a train, got off, got on a different one going in the same direction..."

"Stalker..." I muttered under my breath.

He continued, "It was weird...seeing you again, after so long...usually the times spent between each reset was only a day or two. heh...the whole thing is...kinda humerus when you think about it..."

"SANS! HUMAN! DESERT IS READY!" Papyrus called from the living room.

I got up and offered a hand to Sans, he smiled and took it. Doing most of the work, Sans let me pull him up.

The rest of the night was peaceful, Sans even offered to stay with me for the night for comfort. Right now we lay side by side in my bed, he was asleep but I was wide awake. Something had been playing at my mind for a while now.

The new timeline.

What had made this timeline become so different to the others? Was it something I did?

Maybe I was over thinking this, it didn't matter anymore anyway, she had to stop someone from killing monsters, that was easier than freeing them from an underground prison right?

I had to focus on the next few days for now, I had only been here a couple days, not even, and my job couldn't wait, I needed to sleep.

Soon enough my eyes shut and my mind drifted into darkness.
