Starry night
Jess' POV
I was sitting on edge at the island in my kitchen, wearing normal clothes.
I can't stand dresses. They're too annoying.
I had on my normal red and white shirt, with blue skinny jeans and dark brown boots.
I glanced at the clock.
7:55.
I was practically trembling, extremely nervous for my date with Lukas.
"Aww, don't be nervous, Jess." Soothed Olivia, sitting across from me at the island. "Lukas is probably freaking out, too."
"Yeah." Huffed Petra, "He's pretty sensitive sometimes."
I looked to Petra. She hasn't been acting herself since I told her I had a date it's Lukas.
"Petra, why do you act so strange when we talk about Lukas?" I asked.
"That's none of your business." Growled Petra, crossing her arms.
"It is too our business!" Snapped Olivia.
Petra sighed, not wanting to say anything.
"Listen, Jess." Huffed Petra, sounding sad. "I've done some things in the past.. that I'm not proud of."
Olivia looked shocked.
"Petra- don't tell me that you and Lukas-"
"No!" Snarled Petra, her fiery anger back."Olivia, I used to date Lukas."
Tears gathered in Petra's eyes, and she looked like she was about to burst into tears.
"Y-you did?" I asked. "I thought Lukas only dated Myah?"
"Not just Myah..." croaked Petra, tears streaming down her face. "He dated Cecelia first, but she cheated on him. He also dated Myah after me, but she cheated on him as well- and..."
"And what?" Asked Olivia. "Why did Lukas move on after you?"
Petra sniffled, trying not to break down.
"I-I cheated on him as well..." wailed Petra. "I-I-I couldn't help it! I just... I feel awful... Jesse- he was just... I..." Petra started bawling.
I don't know why, but I felt hatred boiling inside me.
"You cheated on him after you know another girl already did that?!" I spat. "Do you know how Lukas must have felt? No wonder he was upset!"
I felt tears gather in my eyes, but I pushed bad thoughts out of my head. I didn't need the makeup that Olivia spent so long doing to run down my face.
"Petra. That was cold." Growled Olivia.
"I-I know... I-I'm s-so s-sorry..." sniffed Petra, making me feel not the least bit sorry for her.
"Jesse... he just... I don't know. He... made me fall for him."
I heard the doorbell ring, making me almost jump out of my chair.
"Lukas is here!" Hissed Olivia, ushering herself and Petra into another room.
I looked into the mirror, smiling.
I actually looked okay.
I mean, my hair in a braid looked nice.
Opening the door, I braced myself.
There, stood Lukas.
He smiled, his adorable dimples showing in his smile. He was wearing his normal outfit, except without his ocelots jacket.
His crazy hair was also combed down a bit- but it almost looked the same.
"Hey, Jess." He said, blushing. "I-um... you ready?"
I glanced behind me, seeing Olivia smirk at me.
"Sure." I said, gripping my pocketbook. "Anywheres fine away from these stalkers."
Lukas laughed, the adorable kind that always made me laugh as well.
"Come on. Let's go." He smiled, trying to stop laughing.
I followed him down my driveway to a candy-apple-red truck.
I didn't know Lukas had a truck... I like it. It's shiny.
He pulled open the passenger's seat door, my face turning bright red.
"Thanks, Lukas..." I said, blushing.
"No problem." He smiled, closing the door once I got inside.
Hm. I wonder where we're going?
Lukas got inside the truck, backing out of my driveway.
"Lukas?" I asked. "Where exactly are we going?"
"Wherever you want to go." He answered, his sky blue eyes locked on the road.
"Seriously?" I asked.
"Yep." He replied. "Anywhere that isn't too far away of course."
I smiled, thinking of a cool place to go.
I opened up my phone, seeing texts from my friends.
A: hey Jess. Just wanted to say that you should take good care of Lukas... he's pretty sensitive sometimes...
O: HAVE FUN WITH LUKAS!!! DONT DO ANYTHING THAT MIGHT RESULT IN BEHBEHS!!! ;)
A: seriously, though. I may get onto him about random shit, but Lukas is a good guy. I respect him for that. He'll treat you good, Jess.
P: whatever you do, don't mention me to Lukas. I don't want to ruin your first date. Have a good time... :)
I smiled, knowing my fiends were behind me.
"Who are you texting?" Asked Lukas.
"Oh, just Olivia." I sighed.
"Oh?" Asked Lukas with fake concern. "Let me guess. She warned us not to do anything "special"."
I stifled a laugh, still trying to figure out a place to go.
"Yeah... Olivia's a pervert.." I huffed, putting my phone back into my pocket.
"She sure is." Teased Lukas. "...but have you decided on where you want to go?"
I forgot- I haven't given him an answer.
"Oh! Um... I think you should choose." I smiled, trying to prove my point.
"Jess, I asked you because I have no idea where to go."
I tried to think of everything- nothing feeling quite right.
We sat there in silence until Lukas spoke up.
Lukas's POV
"What about the place we went as kids?" I asked.
"Huh?" Asked Jess.
"You know what I'm talking about, Jess. I know you remember."
The place I was talking about was our most magical hideout when we were little. We would play up on that hill for hours until our parents came to get us.
"You're talking about.... about our secret hideout?" Asked Jess, sounding like she forgot about it.
"If you want to go there..." I smiled.
"...yes. That's where I want to go." Assured Jess, looking like she was staring off into space.
...
The moon shone brightly overhead.
I had parked my car a ways back, Jesse and I hiking through the woods until we reached the spot we knew so well.
I had taken my jacket from my car, bringing it in case Jess got cold.
We paused in the clearing of the forest, the stars glittering overhead.
Sitting down, we looked at the scenery that had changed so much- yet had not been touched at all.
"It's even more beautiful than I could've imagined..." sniffed Jess, looking on the brink of tears.
"Is something wrong?" I asked.
Jess looked at me, her emerald green eyes brimmed with tears.
"No... I just..." Jess stopped talking, crying softly.
"You're so sweet... I just... I can't..."
She put her head on my shoulder, still crying.
"Jess, I'm just trying to make you happy." I closed my eyes for a moment, trying to keep calm.
"Thank you, Lukas." Whispered Jess, hugging me tightly.
"No. thank you, Jess." I asserted, wrapping my arm around her.
Her crying stopped, her grip softening.
Did she fall asleep?
"Jess?" I asked.
No reply.
I took my ocelots jacket, placing it over her.
"Goodnight, Jess..." I whispered, not wanting to wake her up. "...I love you."
